by Patrick Nelson
Alice Springs-based Indigenous academic support lecturer Sharon Donnellan has been recognised for 10 years’ full-time service at Charles Darwin University. Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover congratulated Ms Donnellan for her contribution to the university during a visit to Alice Springs campus last week. Ms Donnellan, who has lived all her life in the Territory, said she was delighted to have shared the moment with work colleagues. “It’s the colleagues I’ve worked with and the students I’ve journeyed with who are the highlight of my working life,” Ms Donnellan said. “I still have a good relationship with many of my former students when I see them in the street.” For the past four years Ms Donnellan has

worked in the Akaltye study centre providing support and advice to Indigenous students. It was as a student that Ms Donnellan first came into contact with the university. “I did my teacher practical as part of my Bachelor of Adult Education degree in 2001. Then I became a part-time lecturer and
eventually a full-time lecturer, mostly in community services but a little in sports and recreation.” The mother-of-six and grandmother-ofone said she maintained a full and active daily schedule. “Work, home duties, sport and family take up all my time.”
