Special jersey presentation for First Nations Goannas

T

he inaugural First Nations Goannas team will receive their jerseys from the country’s first Indigenous Rugby League Test player Lionel Morgan and ARL Commissioner Dr Chris Sarra at a special presentation in Newcastle today. On the eve of the First Nations Goannas trial against the Knights for the Lionel Morgan Trophy at Hunter Stadium, the presentation will be a highlight of the free Community Festival at Newcastle’s

Sportsground 2 this afternoon. Today’s Community Festival and Saturday’s spectacular game day line-up, including three matches and entertainment by multi-award winning country musician Troy Cassar-Daley, mark the culmination of the week-long cultural festival being held in place of the Rugby League All Stars program that is being rested in 2014 post World Cup. Troy Cassar-Daley will also perform tonight before the best of NSW and QLD’s Indigenous Rugby League talent go head to head in

the third annual Deadly Choices Interstate Murri v Koori Challenge 7.00pm. Gates at Hunter Stadium open at 3.00pm when Windale Choir and Millibah Dancers perform before the NSW and QLD Indigenous Women’s team play at 3.15pm. The Under 16s NSW v QLD game begins at 4.50pm.
