Sydney NRL clubs unite to tackle bullying by Tracie Edmondson 24 February 2014

RL stars from the Roosters, Eels and Panthers unite against bullying to deliver the game’s powerful “Tackle Bullying” program to almost 38,000 children in one day in their local Sydney communities today. In the biggest day of the 2014 Community Carnival, the Eels, led by Jarryd Hayne, Ben Smith and Tim Mannah will visit more than 23,500 children in Parramatta with the support of the NSW Government Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli and Eels CEO, Scott Seward. Meanwhile 12 Panthers including Jamal Idris, Tyrone Peachey, Tim Grant, Jamie Soward and Leilani Latu will visit more than 12,800 students at 44 schools throughout Penrith; while Roosters stars including skipper Anthony Minichiello and Boyd Cordner will visit 3000 children at local Eastern Sydney schools. Players from the three Sydneybased clubs are armed with new educational resources developed by the NRL in conjunction with the Australian Catholic University (ACU), which aim to empower children, parents and teachers with the knowledge and confidence to overcome bullying at schools. and Matt Cooper have received specialised training by leading psychologist, Dr Elizabeth SealeyWait to ensure the anti-bullying message is delivered to children in the most effective manner. With visits to 300,000 school children across Australia and New
Zealand in one month, this year’s Community Carnival will reach the largest number of children since its’ inception in 2000 after genuine dedication and commitment from Ambassadors and players from all 16 clubs.
