The best Indigenous films of 2013 are going Country

ith celebrated films Satellite Boy and Mystery Road, as well as short films The Chuck In and In The Air, the Travelling Film Festival is set to give remote regions of Australia extraordinary access to the country’s premiere films by Indigenous filmmakers. Bringing a premium slice of the Sydney Film Festival to regional audiences, the Travelling Film Festival will visit a number of locations including: QLD Bundaberg Friday 11 – Sunday 13 October

The 2013 Sydney Film Festival opening night film from writerdirector Ivan Sen (Beneath Clouds, Toomelah), Mystery Road features an all-star cast including Aaron Pederson (Jack Irish: Black Tide & Bad Debts, Water Rats), Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, The Matrix), Jack Thompson (The Great Gatsby, Australia) and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Not Suitable for Children). The film, which was shot in outback Queensland, was also selected for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Academy) Satellite Boy was selected for the Berlin and Toronto International Film Festivals. The film stars David Gulpilil (Rabbit Proof Fence, The Tracker) in the story of 10-year-old Pete, who when lost in the wilds of the Kimberley, must remember some of the traditional bush skills his grandfather taught him to survive. In The Air and The Chuck In Short films In the Air (directed by Kimberley West) and The Chuck In (directed by Jon Bell) will screen alongside films from the Travelling Film Festival’s stellar line-up

including The Rocket – Australia’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 2014 Academy Awards, as well as Valley Of Saints, The Attack, A Hijacking, La Maison de la Radio, Red Obsession, Stoker and Frances Ha. Travelling Film Festival Program Manager Jenny Neighbour said, “Indigenous film and television is proving to be an incredible creative force in Australia and we are thrilled to be able to make these films accessible to audiences outside capital cities.”
