In its paper titled Privatisation of Public Sector Banks: An Alternate Perspective, RBI has clearl y mentioned how PSBs are significantly better and more important when it comes to en hancing national financial inclu sion. However development is also crucial for the economy as a whole to prosper and for that privatisation is the better option. We are thus at the crossroads with no simple yes or no answer to this ‘Public Vs Private’ debate with both the options seeming equally vital and reasonable from future aspects.

Not only this, PSBs are leading into the rural lending space with a 65% share as against the mere 16% share of pri vateOnbanks.otherhand, people still have a soft corner for PSBs and this was proved during the Covid-19 crisis and other geopolitical risks which threatened global financial security. When the pandemic was at its worst, PSBs saw an influx of Rs 58, 697 crores whereas Private Sector re ported inflows of only Rs 33,878 crores. And this de pendency of the Public over PSBs clearly can’t persuade RBI to privatize them.

MoS Rajeev Chan drasekhar while speak ing about the successful model of Digital Pay ments and Direct Bene fit Transfer (DBT) said that more than ₹24.8 lakh crore has been trans ferred through DBT mode since 2013, ₹6.3 lakh crore in FY 2021-22 alone. Auto sales in fast lane as chip shortage eases
New Delhi (PTI): India to become sixth largest insurance market in the world in the next 10 years supported by regulatory push and rapid economic expansion, a report said. Total insurance premiums in India will grow by an average 14% per annum in nominal local currency terms over the next decade, making India the 6th largest in terms of total premium volume by 2032 from 10th largest in 2021, Swiss Re Institute said in its report. With regard to Indian life insurance industry, the report said it will grow at an exceptional rate of 6.6% (in real terms) in 2022 and further grow at 7.1% in 2023. Considering the projected growth rate, the life insurance premiums in India are set to cross $100 billion for the first time in 2022, it said. As far as nonlife insurance market is concerned, the report said it has returned to a growth of 5.8% (in real terms) in 2021 after a slight contraction in the year 2020.
Mumbai: The rupee declined by 4 paise to close at 79.56 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday due to a stronger dollar in the global markets and losses in the domestic equity markets. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened at 79.55 per dollar. It hovered in a range of 79.30 to 79.66 during the session. The domestic unit finally settled at 79.56, down 4 paise over its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee had finished at a nearly two-week high of 79.52. The gross GST revenue collected in August 2022 is ` 1,43,612 crore of which CGST is ` 24,710 crore, SGST is ` 30,951 crore, IGST is ` 77,782 crore (including ` 42,067 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is ` 10,168 crore (including `1,018 crore collected on import of goods), the ministry said. The revenues for the month of August 2022 are 28% higher than the GST revenues of `1,12,020 crore collected in August 2021. “The growth in GST revenue till August 2022 over the same period last year is 33%, continuing to display very high buoyancy. This is a clear impact of various measures taken by the Council in the past to ensure better compliance,” the Ministry said. The collection in August is, however, lower than `1.49 lakh crore collected in July. The mop up was at a record high of ` 1.67 lakh crore in April. ICRA Chief Economist Aditi Nayar said looking ahead, the YoY growth in GST collections is likely to remain well above 20%in September 2022, before tempering down to 12-15% in December quarter, on a normalising base. “We continue to foresee a considerable upside in the CGST collections relative to the FY2023 BE, more than offsetting the expected loss in excise collections,” Nayar said.

New Delhi (PTI): The government on Thursday raised the tax on the export of diesel and jet fuel (ATF) and hiked the windfall profit levy on domesticallyproduced crude oil in line with rising product margins and oil prices. At the fourth fortnightly review, the government raised the windfall profit tax on the export of diesel to `13.5/litre from `7/litre. The tax on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) exports too has been hiked to ` 9 from `2 per litre with effect from SeptemberAlongside,1. the tax hikedcrudedomestically-producedonoiltoohasbeento ` 13,300 per tonne from ` 13,000. The new levies come into effect from Thursday, September 1.

New Delhi: Petrol sales in India rebounded in August but diesel continued to show a decline over the previous month as rains in several parts chipped away demand in some sectors, preliminary industry data showed. Petrol sales, which had dipped 5% in July, increased 5.8% to 2.81 million tonnes in August when compared with 2.66 million tonnes of demand in the previous month. Diesel, the most widely used fuel in the country, saw consumption drop 4.9% to 6.11 million tonnes from 6.42 million tonnes in July.
The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki India said its domestic passenger vehicle dispatches increased by 30% to 1,34,166 units in HyundaiAugust.Motor India reported a 6% increase in its domestic wholesales at 49,510 units against 46,866 units in August 2021. Tata Motors saw its passenger vehicle wholesales in the domestic market increasing by 68%.
