By the peak of his rule, Shivaji had not only built sea forts to defend the shores and control coastlines that extended through Konkan, but had also readied a fleet of over 50 ships that em ployed over 10,000 sail ors, much to the conster nation of the Mughals. They worried that Shivaji could use his navy to reach inland ter ritories and further his conquests.

TO BE

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s fa mous thought that welfare and development must reach the lowermost rung of soci ety has been made true as all the policies and schemes for mulated by Modiji such as Ayushman Bharat, Awas Yo jana, Ujwala Yojana are ben efiting the weakest sections of our Sakshisociety.Bhaav is an ex tremely emotional book. Suresh Dalalji compiled the short letters composed by Narendra bhai and they were published in Gujarati first. We published them in Hindi as well. On 10 Sept 2013 I showed Modiji the dum mies of the books. The pub lication was delayed as he then became the Prime Min isterial candidate and we resumed work in 2014. When we took the books to him fi nally, he said “The books have come out beautifully, but do they even sell?” He was concerned that the mon ey invested by the publisher must be retrieved also. His books are a true mirror of his personality and I must admit, they are quite loved by the people. Some of the poetry that he had penned in 1986 are the reality of today. In the Jan 2018 World Book Fair, I remember the Doord arshan Team coming to me and we discussing the He roes of the day . They asked me that just as we had Swa mi Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhaar Tilak, Subhash Chandra Bose, in the same way who is the hero of today’s time? I had a simple reply, “Our Rashtra Purush, Narendra Modi has always inspired the youth by his example. In recent times we had Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who despite being the President of India used to meet people with so much love and humility, he would chat with children, converse with students, and now in the form of Narendra Bhai we have found our Na tional hero of the day. People look up to him and trust that the country is progressing under his leadership. The hopes of this rising India are pinned on Narendra Modi.” Then they asked me about what kind of books I had and I showed them all the books we had published thus far. That was all and the matter I thought was over. Three days later, when I met Modiji, he said “I watched your interview on Doordarshan.” I was awe struck. I had never thought that my words spoken in some corner of a Book Fair would reach his ears. Not just this, in one of the events, as he was greet ing everyone on his way out, he stopped in front of my father and inquired of him about his health and work! Such is the charisma of Narendra bhai as a lead er. He is greatness personi fied but within a shell of modesty and simplicity.

Jyoti Punj, Samajik Sam rasata and Sakshi Bhaav were the next three books we published.

The man who influenced Modiji most profoundly was Lakshmanrao Inamdar, also known as Vakil Saheb. He was an RSS pranth pracha rak. His impact was such that Modiji considered him to be his mentor and Modiji attributes his entire person ality to him. Modiji wrote Setubandh, a biography of Vakil Saheb where he com pared him with the mythi cal bridge Lord Ram built to Sri Lanka. At that time Va jyapayeeji was the PM and he released the book. Next Modiji wrote a small book Sri Guruji- Ek Swayamsevak on the great ness of Madhav Sad ashivrao Golwarkar. It was a beautifully crafted book of which a revised edition will soon be published.

f someone wishes to know PM Modi from close prox imity, then one must study the poetry composed by him. He writes: “I do not wish to measure Ianyone.donot wish to prove my supremacy to anyone. My only aim is to attain the wisdom of the rivers and the Thismountains.isarequisite for my samarpan yatra, my sacri ficial journey. And this is why, my centre of energy is not self. Mother, give me the strength so that unknowingly I may not be unfair to anyone. But I still ask for the strength to be able to bear the injustice meted out to me.

him somewhere in 1996. We must have met the first time in some event but I remem ber visiting him at his resi dence in Mathur Lane. I have clear memories of the room being small but very well organised and Modiji working on his laptop. We all know Narendra bhai’s passion for digitization, but even so many years ago, Modiji was tech savvy and adept at using technology. His idea of Digital India took shape and strength ened in those days when technology was relatively new to India. His dream of a digital India has been ful filledThenow.poet within him has been kept alive because of his love for writing. He is a complete bibliophile and possesses exceptional aes thetic sense. He has a clear vision about the how the book must look, feel and read. He has the skill to make everything look beau tiful and infuses in them his novel vision. He also spends time on deciphering the ideal title for books. In 2002, we published the book “Apaatkal Mein Guja rat” based on how the emer gency was the darkest peri od of Indian democracy and the countrymen had to un dergo unbearable sufferings at the time. Narendra bhai has written out his heart fearlessly in this book and it is definitely one of the best accounts that brings to life those dark days.

Jyoti Punj is a very special book in which Modiji has written about people who were close to him and influenced him in positive way. And this book serves as a light house for the younger gen erations who get to know about the illustrious histo ry of the sangh, and they get to know closely the stal warts and their ideology. Societal harmony is a sub ject very close to Modiji’s heart and the book Samajik Samrasta deals with it. The famous slogan we are all fa miliar with “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” came out while Narendra bhai was writing Samajik Samrasta. Pandit

Baghel alleged that the BJP govt uses agencies like the ED to intimidate legislators

Noida (PTI): A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Gau tam Buddh Nagar Fri day rejected the bail ap plication of politician Shrikant Tyagi , who was arrested last month after a purported video of him assaulting and abusing a Noida woman had gone viral. The bail plea was re jected by Special Judge (Gangsters Act) Ran vijay Pratap Singh in the District and Ses sions Court, Gautam Buddh Nagar, accord ing to the order copy.

Maha Congress... It would require 30 MLAs from the party and even then, these MLAs would need to merge with the BJP. Otherwise, they face disqualification under the Anti-defection law and will need to resign (from their posts).” A source familiar with the development said, “We have learnt that around 11 to 15 Congress MLAs were being lured into the BJP a couple of months ago. This was in the wake of raids conduct ed by the onefromincluded(MVA)MahatersaffairsmanagingpremisesDirectorateEnforcement(ED)onofpeoplethefinancialoffourminisinthepreviousVikasAghadigovernment.IttwoleadersShivSena, andeachfromNCPand Congress. The raided premises (some were located in Maker Chambers in south Mumbai) led to the sei zure of data in posses sion of these minis ters.”However, the source maintained , “The raids were strategical ly planned on close as sociates of MVA minis ters including Anil Parab (Shiv Sena), Ji tendra Awhad (NCP) and Ashok Chavan (Congress). A follow-up action was witnessed against another Con gress leader’s close as sociates. The raids did not target the politi cians’ own premises but their close associ ates.”The source added that all seized data was scanned for monetary transactions to register cases under the Preven tion of Money Laun dering Act (PMLA). “Today, the Anti-Cor ruption Bureau (ACB) is politically redun dant, except for public servants. For political corruption, the En forcement Directorate (ED) has become the main player. Once a PMLA case is regis tered, the accused are unable to refuse any political offer made to them for fear of poten tial incarceration for at least two years,” said theCitingsource.an example, another source quipped, “This was a classical case of ‘Op eration Kamal’ (refer ring to the BJP’s sym bol). The BJP, armed with details of PMLA cases against the MLAs, simply told them to leave their re spective political par ties, and even resign from their positions (as MLAs). They were told that if they were not amenable, then the door for further con versation would be completely shut for any future rapproche ment possibilities.”

Is the ‘PA culture’ in Congress still radiant as before?

New Delhi: While cut ting off his age-old ties with the grand old par ty Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad wrote a five page letter to Congress President Sonia Gan dhi wherein he even ac cused Rahul Gandhi of working on sugges tions of his PA and se curity officers. Al though Azad did not name any PA, senior journalists covering Congress for several years also do not know any such ‘powerful PA’, on whose recommenda tion Rahul would make appointments or take decisions.Butthe time that Azad has referred to as the ‘Golden Age of Congress’ and has said that Rahul has ended the tradition of dis cussion or seeking suggestions from sen ior leaders, actually it was in those times, when Congress Presi dents’ PA would be all powerful and deci sions were taken on their recommenda tions.RK Dhawan was in ducted in Indira Gan dhi’s office to the post of typist cum PA. Even though he was a PA, but he held control that without his will, even chief ministers could not meen Indira. Perhaps Azad could have thrown some light on how many times he warmed up to Dhawan to meet Indi ra. In Rajiv and Sonia’s time too, V George used to work as PA, but everyone from those times knows that it is George who had a grander political stat ure than Azad. George could even get state presidents and other AICC leaders appoint ed. So it is obvious that Azad must have also tried to be in George’s good books. However, today, there is no powerful PA like Dhawan or George.

New Delhi (ANI): Ger many’s flag carrier Luf thansa Airlines has cancelled 800 flights globally due to a oneday pilots’ strike, re sulting in around 700 passengers being stranded at the T3 ter minal at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Strand ed passengers and their relatives registered strong protests on the intervening night of Friday at Delhi airport. “An information was received at IGI Airport at 12.15 AM in which it was conveyed that crowd has gathered on the main road in front of Departure gate no. 1 Terminal 3 IGI Airport. On reaching the spot it was found that approx 150 persons were pre sent there and because of this, the traffic mo ment was slowed down.

Kabul (ANI): At least 20 people were killed in a blast that rocked a mosque in northwest ern Afghanistan during Friday prayers, Afghan mediaGuzargahreported.mosque in the city of Herat was bombed at around 12:40 pm (local time), Khamaa Press report ed, citing authorities run by the Taliban. Tal iban spokesperson Za bihullah Mujahid said Mawlawi Mujib Rah man Ansari, the cleric who led the prayers, was killed in what he described as a cowardly attack carried out by the “enemies of reli gion.”

Sharat K Verma New Delhi: Former Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kash mir Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently said that he will form his own national party. Howev er, later he said that he will first establish the Jammu and Kashmir unit of his party, which means though the par ty will be a national party, but first its state unit will be estab lished.Sources reveal that several long time Con gress leaders who have a good local and nation al standing are in Azad’s touch and when ever Azad forms his own party, these indi viduals will hold the reins of that party. There will not be any ‘high command’ in the party, rather each sa trap would be a high command, in a way. It is being said that on Tuesday, Anand Sharma, Bhupendra Singh Hudda and Prith viraj Chavhan met with Azad and spoke at length about this new party. It is therefore be ing speculated if, prior to the next general elec tions, Bhupemdra Hud da would also give a shock to Congress. No tably, it was on Hudda’s insistance that the Con gress high command appointed the party’s Haryana chief and chopped Randeep Sur jewala’s stature. The meet between Hudda and Azad also means that he is planning something. He may term it a courtesy meet, but a leader who has given demeaning state ments about Rahul Gandhi, what is the need to meet such a leader? So, it is possible that the Azad’s party is also called Congress, much like all the for mer parties are called that came out of Con gress, and then Hudda may hold the reins of that party in Haryana. Anand Sharma or Prithviraj Chavhan do not have the political hold to run a party in their respective states, but they can try to find a leader who can.

SAYS RBI GOVERNOR New Delhi (Agencies): India’s inflation has peaked and is expected to moderate to around 5% by the April-June quarter of next year, Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikan ta Das said in an interview with a leading TV channel onInflationFriday. has remained above RBI’s 2% to 6% toler ance band for several months, with consumer in flation at 6.71% in July. The governor also said that the policy aim is to control inflation while minimising any impact on economic growth. The RBI’s monetary pol icy committee raised the bank’s key lending rate by 50 basis points last month, its third increase in four months to curb rising pric es, and economists polled by Reuters expect further tightening into early 2023. The next monetary policy meeting is on September 30. The central bank has also been intervening to support the volatile rupee, which is hovering around the 78.80 to a dollar mark. Strong forex reserves have helped to maintain rupee stability, Das added.

RATE HIKE IMPACT ON INFLATION STILL UNCLEAR, SAYS MPC MEMBER VARMA New Delhi: The success of the RBI’s interest rate rises in controlling inflation is not yet clear, and the pace of rate adjustment will depend on the state of the economy, MPC member JR Varma said on Friday. “If there is robust economic growth, then we would like to accelerate the (inflation) reduction to 4%. But if the economy is struggling, then a slower pace of adjustment would be appropriate,” Varma said. “We are now in a situation of high inflation and weak economy. So the real rate might have to be only slightly above the neutral rate,” he said, adding that the real rate needs to be computed using projected inflation of three to four quarters ahead and not based on current inflation.Based on that expectation, Varma sees further room for the Reserve Bank of India to raise interest rates.

Renni Abraham Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which consistently claims to have better law and order mainte nance under its watch, has been be lied by the annual statistics on crime and punishment in India according to data from the Na tional Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

An analysis of the profile of POSCO vic tims in 2021 revealed that out of 33,503 POSCO cases, 33,186 or 99.05% of the victims were girls ranging from less than 6 years to 18 years of age, while 317 victims were boys. Of 33,186 cases in which the victims were girls, 29,379 children were either in the 12-16 or 16-18 age group. Kreeanne Rabadi, Re gional Director, CRY –West, said the steady rise in numbers could also be attributed to greater public aware ness about th e offences, and a more proactive role by the police in re porting these cases. “The NCRB data has also proved beyond doubt that the pandem ic has left children far more exposed in issues related to child protec tion,” she said, calling for a dedicated cadre of child protection of ficials and budget allo cations for children protection and safety.
