The Delhi State Environ ment Impact Assess ment Authority (SEIAA) has granted environ mental clearance to the proposal for the con struction of the 'Execu tive Enclave' which will house the new Prime Minister's Office and Cabinet Secretariat. The Delhi State Ex pert Appraisal Commit tee (SEAC) had last week recommended the SEIAA to give green nod to the project. SEIAA discussed the project at a meeting on Wednes day and approved it. The Forest Depart ment had on August 23 granted permission to the Central Public Works Department, the user agency, to trans plant 487 of the 807 trees at the site under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994. During the meeting, SEIAA noted that the project will lead to the removal of 60 percent of the trees at the "SEAC/SEIAAsite.tried to get the PP (project proponent) to reduce felling of trees but only a few could be saved. "The project design was presented as fait ac compli (something that's already done). No attempt was made to make any major change in the footprint of the building that would have led to tree preser vation on the site," it said.CPWD officials said the proposal was submitted for environ mental clearance in De cember last year. The SEAC, which vets the proposals before they are sent to SEIAA for clearance, had earli er this month set up a sub-committee to exam ine the implementation of the Delhi govern ment's policy for tree transplantation and re view the site plan in or der to retain trees. Under the policy no tified by the govern ment in December 2020, agencies con cerned are required to transplant a minimum of 80 per cent of the trees affected by their development works. The benchmark tree survival rate at the end of one year of tree trans plantation is 80 per cent. The sub-committee in its report said the tree survey was not carried out at the time of project feasibility assessment and site identification. f someone wishes to know PM Modi from close prox imity, then one must study the poetry composed by him. He writes: “I do not wish to measure Ianyone.donot wish to prove my supremacy to anyone. The man who influenced Modiji most profoundly was Lakshmanrao Inamdar, also known as Vakil Saheb. He was an RSS pranth pracha rak. His impact was such that Modiji considered him to be his mentor and Modiji attributes his entire person ality to him. Modiji wrote Setubandh, a biography of Vakil Saheb where he com pared him with the mythi cal bridge Lord Ram built to Sri Lanka. At that time Va jyapayeeji was the PM and he released the book. Next Modiji wrote a small book Sri Guruji- Ek Swayamsevak on the great ness of Madhav Sad ashivrao Golwarkar. It was a beautifully crafted book of which a revised edition will soon be published.
It is my good fortune that I got acquainted with Nar endra bhai and I got close to I UNTOLD STORIES OF PM MODI - PART 20 MODI: THE MASTER OF ALL TRADES

him somewhere in 1996. We must have met the first time in some event but I remem ber visiting him at his resi dence in Mathur Lane. I have clear memories of the room being small but very well organised and Modiji working on his laptop. We all know Narendra bhai’s passion for digitization, but even so many years ago, Modiji was tech savvy and adept at using technology. His idea of Digital India took shape and strength ened in those days when technology was relatively new to India. His dream of a digital India has been ful filledThenow.poet within him has been kept alive because of his love for writing. He is a complete bibliophile and possesses exceptional aes thetic sense. He has a clear vision about the how the book must look, feel and read. He has the skill to make everything look beau tiful and infuses in them his novel vision. He also spends time on deciphering the ideal title for books. In 2002, we published the book “Apaatkal Mein Guja rat” based on how the emer gency was the darkest peri od of Indian democracy and the countrymen had to un dergo unbearable sufferings at the time. Narendra bhai has written out his heart fearlessly in this book and it is definitely one of the best accounts that brings to life those dark days.
Jyoti Punj, Samajik Sam rasata and Sakshi Bhaav were the next three books we published.
Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s fa mous thought that welfare and development must reach the lowermost rung of soci ety has been made true as all the policies and schemes for mulated by Modiji such as Ayushman Bharat, Awas Yo jana, Ujwala Yojana are ben efiting the weakest sections of our Sakshisociety.Bhaav is an ex tremely emotional book. Suresh Dalalji compiled the short letters composed by Narendra bhai and they were published in Gujarati first. We published them in Hindi as well. On 10 Sept 2013 I showed Modiji the dum mies of the books. The pub lication was delayed as he then became the Prime Min isterial candidate and we resumed work in 2014. When we took the books to him fi nally, he said “The books have come out beautifully, but do they even sell?” He was concerned that the mon ey invested by the publisher must be retrieved also. His books are a true mirror of his personality and I must admit, they are quite loved by the people. Some of the poetry that he had penned in 1986 are the reality of today. In the Jan 2018 World Book Fair, I remember the Doord arshan Team coming to me and we discussing the He roes of the day . They asked me that just as we had Swa mi Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhaar Tilak, Subhash Chandra Bose, in the same way who is the hero of today’s time? I had a simple reply, “Our Rashtra Purush, Narendra Modi has always inspired the youth by his example. In recent times we had Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who despite being the President of India used to meet people with so much love and humility, he would chat with children, converse with students, and now in the form of Narendra Bhai we have found our Na tional hero of the day. People look up to him and trust that the country is progressing under his leadership. The hopes of this rising India are pinned on Narendra Modi.” Then they asked me about what kind of books I had and I showed them all the books we had published thus far. That was all and the matter I thought was over. Three days later, when I met Modiji, he said “I watched your interview on Doordarshan.” I was awe struck. I had never thought that my words spoken in some corner of a Book Fair would reach his ears. Not just this, in one of the events, as he was greet ing everyone on his way out, he stopped in front of my father and inquired of him about his health and work! Such is the charisma of Narendra bhai as a lead er. He is greatness personi fied but within a shell of modesty and simplicity.

Jyoti Punj is a very special book in which Modiji has written about people who were close to him and influenced him in positive way. And this book serves as a light house for the younger gen erations who get to know about the illustrious histo ry of the sangh, and they get to know closely the stal warts and their ideology. Societal harmony is a sub ject very close to Modiji’s heart and the book Samajik Samrasta deals with it. The famous slogan we are all fa miliar with “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” came out while Narendra bhai was writing Samajik Samrasta.

I had the opportunity of attending the International Ramayana Sammelan in Mauritius with Narendra bhai. A bill was passed in the parliament to found a Ramayana Centre in Mauri tius. Modiji is known for be ing extremely detail orient ed. The speech he delivered on the occasion was so re plete with meaning and he spoke with such vigour and devotion about the great ness of Lord Rama in 1998 that in 2019, Sri Ram blessed him with the opportunity to have the foundation stone of the Ram Mandir laid un der his leadership! Al though Azad did not name any PA, senior journalists covering Congress for several years also do not know any such ‘powerful PA’, on whose recommenda tion Rahul would make appointments or take decisions.Butthe time that Azad has referred to as the ‘Golden Age of Congress’ and has said that Rahul has ended the tradition of dis cussion or seeking suggestions from sen ior leaders, actually it was in those times, when Congress Presi dents’ PA would be all powerful and deci sions were taken on their recommenda tions.RK Dhawan was in ducted in Indira Gan dhi’s office to the post of typist cum PA. Even though he was a PA, but he held control that without his will, even chief ministers could not meen Indira. Perhaps Azad could have thrown some light on how many times he warmed up to Dhawan to meet Indi ra. In Rajiv and Sonia’s time too, V George used to work as PA, but everyone from those times knows that it is George who had a grander political stat ure than Azad. George could even get state presidents and other AICC leaders appoint ed. So it is obvious that Azad must have also tried to be in George’s good books. However, today, there is no powerful PA like Dhawan or George.

Sharat K Verma New Delhi: Former Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kash mir Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently said that he will form his own national party. Howev er, later he said that he will first establish the Jammu and Kashmir unit of his party, which means though the par ty will be a national party, but first its state unit will be estab lished.Sources reveal that several long time Con gress leaders who have a good local and nation al standing are in Azad’s touch and when ever Azad forms his own party, these indi viduals will hold the reins of that party. There will not be any ‘high command’ in the party, rather each sa trap would be a high command, in a way. It is being said that on Tuesday, Anand Sharma, Bhupendra Singh Hudda and Prith viraj Chavhan met with Azad and spoke at length about this new party. It is therefore be ing speculated if, prior to the next general elec tions, Bhupemdra Hud da would also give a shock to Congress. No tably, it was on Hudda’s insistance that the Con gress high command appointed the party’s Haryana chief and chopped Randeep Sur jewala’s stature. The meet between Hudda and Azad also means that he is planning something. He may term it a courtesy meet, but a leader who has given demeaning state ments about Rahul Gandhi, what is the need to meet such a leader? So, it is possible that the Azad’s party is also called Congress, much like all the for mer parties are called that came out of Con gress, and then Hudda may hold the reins of that party in Haryana. Anand Sharma or Prithviraj Chavhan do not have the political hold to run a party in their respective states, but they can try to find a leader who can.

New Delhi: The success of the RBI’s interest rate rises in controlling inflation is not yet clear, and the pace of rate adjustment will depend on the state of the economy, MPC member JR Varma said on Friday. “If there is robust economic growth, then we would like to accelerate the (inflation) reduction to 4%. But if the economy is struggling, then a slower pace of adjustment would be appropriate,” Varma said. “We are now in a situation of high inflation and weak economy. So the real rate might have to be only slightly above the neutral rate,” he said, adding that the real rate needs to be computed using projected inflation of three to four quarters ahead and not based on current inflation.Based on that expectation, Varma sees further room for the Reserve Bank of India to raise interest rates.
