Ahmedabad (PTI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday took a veiled swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal by stating there are peo ple who jump into the fray five months ahead of elections with a slew of promises unlike those who work hard for five years for the public before seeking their votes. At a function to inau gurate four ‘smart schools’ in Ahmedabad city, Shah praised the Gujarat model of pri mary public education and said if any state has to learn about a model regarding education, it should come to Gujarat. He also blamed the Congress governments of Gujarat of the past for leaving primary ed ucation in the state in a poor condition. After becoming chief minis ter, Narendra Modi took initiatives like ‘Kanya Kelavani” and ‘Gunot sav’ to raise the enrol ment ratio to 100 per cent and also brought the dropout ratio to al most zero, Shah said. “Elections are near. There are two types of people. There are peo ple who contest elec tions through a politi cal party by sweating and doing public ser vice for five years. Then there are those who put on new robes five months before the elec tion and come to the public with a gift of promises,” Shah said. However, the people of Gujarat can understand such a situation very well, Shah “Narendrabhaiadded. start ed new initiatives. In the name of ‘Kanya Kelavani,’ he organised a praveshotsav (enrol ment drive). Children were brought from households and the en rolment rate rose to 100 per cent for the first time in the whole coun try. The dropout ratio that the Congress left at 37 per cent was brought down to zero by Naren drabhai,” Shah said. Modi also started ini tiatives like ‘Gunotsav’ and focussed on teach ers training, he added. “If any state has to study a model regard ing education, I can say without hesitation that it should come to Guja rat. Whether it is vil lage, municipality, city, the kids of poor or rich, the BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi has made all arrangements to improve the level of their primary educa tion,” Shah said. He said the Congress would once again bring up caste talks and make new promises in the run up to the polls, to be held later this year.

“The development journey that has contin ued in the last 20 years will run for another five years. Bhupendrabhai has executed all the pro jects beautifully and in time and funds given by the Central govern ment,” he said.

ontroversy over freebies seems to have hit free ra tion supply to the poor in some states. The Uttar Pradesh government has already de cided to do away with free distribution of wheat and rice under the National Food Security Act. Free ration distribution under the Prad han Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna (PMGKY) will, how ever, continue. The UP gov ernment’s decision will af fect about 15 crore ration/ Antyodaya card holders. The card holder will now be re quired to pay Rs 2 per kg of wheat and rice at Rs 3 per kg. The continued free ration under the PMGKY is expect ed to soften the blow from discontinuation by UP. Although there is an argu ment that the state’s deci sion could affect BJP’s pros pects in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. That may be an unlikely scenario as the elec torates will be voting to elect a party which has a strong prime ministerial candidate.

IN-DEPTH THE FUTURE OF VICE KAMALAPRESIDENTHARRIS IN AMERICAN POLITICS arly in 2022, the BBC’ North America re porter Anthony Zurcher published an important story: “Kamala Harris one year: Where did it go wrong for her?” In a well-crafted story, Zurcher argued that a tough portfolio— tackling undocumented migra tion and national voting reform enacting—made her an easy tar get as vice president. Yet this canny BBC reporter observed how Harris began her presiden tial campaign with a bang in Jan uary 2019 only to crash spectacu larly. She failed to debate or inter view well, her staff left and, for all the money she raised, Harris was unable to craft a clear message or harness a constituency. If the left-leaning BBC has been critical of Harris, so has the right-leaning The Econo mist. As early as May 29, 2021, it argued that she was “a gift to the Republicans.” This year, on June 23, the 1843-vintage British paper argued that Democrats should not opt for either Presi dent Biden or Harris as their presidential candidate in 2024.

Still, the Central government is not taking any chances even in states like Telangana which goes to poll in 2023. Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: Punjab MP Manish Tewari, who was part of G-23, a group of angry Con gress leaders, has raised questions on the election process before the election of Con gress President. He has said that for free and fair elections, it is nec essary that the names of all the voters partici pating in the election of the President should be put on the website of the party. On the other hand, the head of the election authority of Congress, Madhusudan Mistry has said that those who want to see the voter list can go to the party office and see it. He has further said that once the nomina tion is filed, the list will be made available to every candidate. This is a normal process, which does not show anyButdrawback.ManishTewari is a lawyer and he said that the one who has to nom inate, if he does not have the list and has made the wrong people as propos ers, then the nomination will be canceled. This is a baseless argument and just a matter of debate. Because the one who has to nominate will not be a leader who follows any path. Secondly, he can visit more than one state office himself or send any of his associates to see the list. Thirdly, the one who becomes the proposer will know whether he is among the nine thousand people who have to vote in the election of the Presi dent. But since Ghulam Nabi Azad has said in a letter to Sonia Gandhi that all the elections of the organization are sham and farce, so Man ish Tewari too is trying to prove this point.

ANJALI BHARADWAJ She’s one the coolest teachers we could have. From being strict to be ing equally comfortable and fun loving during other times. At such a young age, she has carved a huge place in everyone’s hearts.

SNEHA Teachers’ Day is very special to me. I want to thank all my teachers and wanted to say that you have shaped us and shown your appreciation towards us. You have always been an excellent educator who knew how to illuminate a soul with its light. Wishing you joy and happiness, you are an amazing teacher, and you only deserve the best.

TEACHERS:

GARIMA Teachers are our roots, it’s their education which stays with us for our lifetime, from the beginning of our life, the first teacher who teaches us the values is our mother and then comes the school teach ers who help us grow in every aspect, and they guide us till we are capable of standing on our feet independently.

eachers Day in India is cel ebrated on September 5 to commemorate the birth an niversary of Dr dentasRadhakrishnan.SarvepalliHeservedIndia’sfirstVice-PresiandsecondPresident after independence, was a re nowned academic, and was award ed the Bharat Ratna. There is no question that teaching is a noble vocation that merits just as much love and respect as any other. On Teachers Day, students all through out the country pay appreciation and tribute to their teachers. The day serves as a reminder of the cru cial role that educators play in de veloping our nation by guiding and instructing the most talented indi viduals in it. City First brings to you sweet messages from students for their teachers who act as the source of light in the world that has been darkened due to ignorance. As the saying goes, a nation’s chil dren hold the key to its future, and teachers have the power to mentor kids and develop them into future leaders who will determine India’s course. They are crucial to our life because they enable us to succeed in both our professional and entre preneurial endeavours. They assist us in developing into better people, better members of society, and bet ter representatives of our nation. The purpose of celebrating Teach ers Day is to recognise the difficul ties, particular roles, and challenges that teachers face on a daily basis. Both students and teachers look for ward to Teachers Day. The Day is significant for the kids because it offers them the chance to appreciate the work that their teachers do to make sure they receive a quality education. Similar to children, teachers anticipate the Teachers Day celebration since it honours and recognises their work. Teachers are the true representatives of knowledge and wisdom, and they nurture and prepare students for the future. The real cornerstones of our success are our teachers. They assist us in learning new things, enhanc ing our abilities, gaining confidence, and determining the best course for success. But despite having such a significant impact on student’s lives and the development of the country, they rarely receive the recognition they merit. So, as a student, it is our duty to thank them at least once a year and Teachers Day gives us an ideal opportunity to do so.
