20 delegates from Brazil, Germany, Japan, Indonesia and China on Sunday arrived at the Varanasi Airport to participate in the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to be held from June 11-13.

Awadh’s Faruwahi dance and Kashi Vishwanath Damru Vadan Samiti gave a grand welcome to the foreign guests at the airport. The foreign guests also performed

Damru Vadan and Indian dance at the airport.

Among those who arrived were Australian politician Patrick Conroy, Brazil’s Ambassador to India Mauricio Lyrio, European commissioner for International partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, German minister for economic cooperation and development Svenja Schulze, Japanese Minister Shunsuke Takei and China’s Zhao Yifan among others.

Foreign guests were very happy to see the reception at the airport.

2 held after soldier’s wife claims she was molested by 40

Tamil Nadu: An Army jawan’s wife on Sunday alleged that she was attacked and molested by more than 40 people and also verbally abused. “More than 40 people attacked me. They verbally abused me, using obscene language. They also touched me inappropriately. They are not letting our family live in peace. They are threatening me,” the jawan’s wife said in Vellore.

Earlier in the day, the jawan had alleged that his wife was stripped half-naked and beaten very badly.

Police rolls out drone emergency response system

Chandigarh: The Punjab Police has rolled out a drone emergency response system in the border district of Pathankot to foil attempts to smuggle drugs and weapons from across the border using unmanned aerial vehicles, officials said. Police will coordinate with villagelevel defence committees in areas along the India-Pakistan border.

2 arrested in Cong worker murder case in West Bengal

West Bengal: Two persons were arrested by the police in connection with the murder of a Congress worker in West Bengal on Saturday. The Congress leader was allegedly murdered at Khargram of Murshidabad on Saturday. Public Prosecutor Subhra Mishra Kandi told ANI that the accused have been sent to a 10-day police remand to recover the weapon used in the crime, which was reported to be an iron rod and a local gun. Further details are awaited.

Detained in Nigeria for nine months, 16 Indian sailors return home

Kochi: Indian sailors who had been detained in Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria for nine months finally returned home on Saturday.

The 16 sailors, who had faced accusations of oil theft by Nigerian authorities, arrived at Kochi Airport in Kerala. They were warmly welcomed and greeted with garlands at the Kochi airport by their family.

Fire in residential building in Mumbai’s Dharavi; 32 injured

Mumbai: At least 32 persons, including a one-month-old boy, were injured and admitted to hospitals after a fire erupted in their seven-storey residential building in Dharavi slum area of central Mumbai on Sunday, an official said. Seventy to eighty persons were rescued after the fire broke out in Shama building located on 90 Feet Road around 11 am. It was a level one fire & after being alerted, the local fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and began the firefighting operation, he said.
