IN-DEPTH DHARMA SANSAD PRESSES AHEAD WITH RASHTRAHINDUAGENDA
INDIA OF 2022
cclaimed author Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator and could lose an eye following a shocking incident of multiple stabbing 33-years after the publication of Satanic Verses. He also suffered a wound to his liver. Poor security at the literary event in New York State was to be blamed for the assailant getting easy access to the target, Rushdie. After attack on Rushdie and mur der of two Hindus in India for sharing Nupur Sharma’s ob jectionable statement on Twitter, there’s every reason for Taslima Nasreen, another author who has taken on the hardliner mullahs, to be wor ried. As for Nupur Sharma, the security around her needs to be vigilant 24x7. These in cidents show the extent of extremism to which an indoc trinated Muslim can go and there’s a need for saner ele ments to step forward. Salman Rushdie went into hiding in 1989 after a fatwa calling for his death was is sued by Ayatollah Khomeini, the late leader of Iran who found his book blasphemous. Because the edict was issued by the Ayatollah, nobody could rescind it as per the Ira nian law. The book was banned in several countries, including India, for its antiProphet contents. Besides the edict, the India-born author carried a reward of $3.3 mil lion on his head. When the Rajiv Gandhi government banned Satanic Verses he faced strong criti cism from the Left liberals who viewed it as an attack on freedom of expression. The right wingers called it ap peasement of minorities. Now the BJP finds itself in an almost similar situation with Nupur Sharma. Free dom of expression is indeed contentious.
I do not have time for those of our country men and women who rush to the United States. After completing their education a majority accept the status of second class citizens. One or two make it to State Legislatures or House of Representatives. Some succeed in business, but mother India is no longer a priority. They encounter not so subtle racism and put up with it. Some even acquire various kinds of accents, which sound phoney and grating. They have made their choice. Good luck, but no respect from this corner. Indian I was born and Indian I shall die
am eighteen years older than Independent India. I re member vividly keeping awake till midnight of 14/15 August 1947 to listen to Jawa harlal Nehru’s never to be forgotten speech. “Long years ago we made tryst with destiny, and now the times comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the World sleeps, India will awake to life and free dom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation long sup pressed finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the larger cause of hu manity…”Thiswas great and mov ing English, but 80% Indians did not understand it. Nehru also disregarded the fact that half of the world was wide awake. A majority of the members of the Constit uent Assembly present in the Central Hall of Parlia ment understood English. The applause was thunder ous. That speech of Nehru lives in our hearts and minds.India of 2022 is spectacu larly different from the India of 1947. There is one vital ele ment that has remained ac tive, unchanged- Democracy. That miracle has been en dowed to the nation by the people of India, not by its elite. The Indian Freedom Movement under the unique leadership of Mahatma Gan dhi was one among the his torical and unforgettable events of the 20th century. India’s freedom movement inspired other countries un der British, French, Dutch, Portuguese and Spain’s im perial/colonial rule. In 1947 Africa had three independent countries, South of Sahara, Ethiopia, South Africa- dedicated to perpetual white rule, even though three fourth of the population was non-white. The third was Liberia. Sev eral African leaders admired Gandhiji, Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Chief Lithuli of South Africa. Ahmed Kath rada, a colleague of Mandela, all mention Gandhiji in their memoirs. Kathrada spent 27 years in jail with Mandela. He writes, “My own views on multiculturalism are best summed up in a passage by Gandhiji: I want the culture of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possi ble. But I refuse to blown off my feet by any.”
Kwame Nkrumah of Gha na led the freedom struggle in his colonised country by following Gandhian meth ods, “I described Positive Ac tion as the legitimate and constitutional means…. Non-cooperation based on the principle of absolute non-violence as used by Gan dhi in India.” Lech Walesa, the Polish leader of the movement called, “Solidari ty” and future President mentions Gandhiji several times in his Autobiography; “The Struggle and the Tri umph”. I met him in Warsaw and in New Delhi, when he paid a state visit to India. How do I see the future of India. Unlike the chronic pessimists and congenital grumblers, I am confident of a brighter future for our country. India will become a world power, working in a balanced way for the estab lishment of World peace and goodwill. Poverty will be come a memory and so will joblessness. It goes to the credit of the Modi Govern ment that not a single seri ous communal riot has oc curred in the past decade. I do not have time for those of our country men and women who rush to the United States. After com pleting their education a majority accept the status of second class citizens. One or two make it to State Legislatures or House of Representatives. Some suc ceed in business, but moth er India is no longer a prior ity. They encounter not so subtle racism and put up with it. Some even acquire various kinds of accents, which sound phoney and grating. They have made their choice. Good luck, but no respect from this corner. Indian I was born and Indi an I shall die.
RUSHDIE WOUNDED Salman Rushdie is among the greatest novelists of the 20th century. “Midnight’s Children” is a classic. He was grievously wounded by a fanatic Muslim youth and is fighting for his life. I wish him an early recovery.

SPIRITUAL SPEAK
One moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world. Buddha he Dharma Sansad is back with a contro versial agenda once again. A draft pre pared by a group of seers who met recently men tions two important points which propose Varanasi as the capital of Hindu Rashtra. The other is the magnanimity to wards Muslims and Christians by allowing them to stay like commoners but without the right to franchise! Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists will have the right to franchise. The Dharma Sansad’s draft will be taken up for approval at its meeting in the Sangam City, Prayagraj, during the Magh Mela. A new constitution is also being proposed for the Hindu Rashtra, the idea of which was mooted last year, which will have a parliament of religions. The draft proposals make the future of politicians and the idea of India look bleak. The proposals may end up hurting the sentiments of minorities but that’s not relevant for the group bent on changing the nation’s profile. One should not expect the proposals to be amended.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on ‘revdi’ culture last month has started a debate on freebies in the country and thereafter a political slugfest is on between the BJP and the AAP on the issue. He used ‘revdis’, a popular north Indian sweet often distributed during festivals, as a metaphor for freebies being promised by various parties to grab power and said the people, especially the youth, should guard against it. On Saturday, Sisodia said it is for the first time in the last 75 years that the Union government had to “tax” food items like milk, curd, wheat and rice. “The Central government is saying it does not have money to build schools, hospitals, pay pensions and bring schemes to give relief to poor people in the country,” he claimed. The Centre lacks funds to support such measures because it used taxpayers' money to fill up the “coffers of the friends” of Prime Minister Modi, Sisodia alleged.
“The situation is so volatile that we cannot leave the family members, especially the women and children, be alone there even for a minute,” he added. Since terrorists attacked Karta-E-Parwan gurdwara in Kabul on June 18, 66 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus have been evacuated to India in four batches. Recalling the attack, Rajwanshi said 18 Afghan Sikhs were inside the gurdwara when it was targeted and two of them “Businessesdied. of many were ruined because even our shops used to be targeted. Afghan Sikhs have stopped visiting gurdwaras there,” he said. “None of the gurdwaras in Afghanistan is functional anymore and people are also scared to visit them,” he“Wesaid. were born in that country (Afghanistan), we grew up there, we have our houses there but we cannot even imagine going back to that place again,” he added. Those who have arrived in India are now focusing on rebuilding their lives. That is why they have decided to make a lot of noise so that they can claim Sisodia was targeted due to their attack on the BJP when action is taken against him, Patra told reporters. The AAP government distributed liquor vends like freebies, including to blacklisted firms, and waived Rs 144 crore for “friends” of Kejriwal, he alleged.Kejriwal’s and Sisodia’s claims in the debate on the ‘revdi’ (freebies) culture are full of lies and betray their lack of understanding as well, the BJP leader said.

New Delhi (Agencies): The United States has expressed concern to India that it was being used to export fuel made from Russian crude, through highseas transfers to hide its origin, to New York in violation of US sanctions, a top Indian central banker said on Saturday. The US Treasury Department told India that an Indian ship picked up oil from a Russian tanker on the high seas and brought it to a port in Gujarat on the west coast, where it was refined and shipped on, said Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Michael Patra. US sanctions on Moscow for its February invasion of Ukraine prohibit the import to the United States of Russian-origin energy products including crude oil, refined fuels, distillates, coal and gas. “The refined output was put back on that ship and it set sail without a destination. In the mid-seas it received the destination so it reached at its course, went to New York,” Deputy Governor, RBI Michael Patra said at an event.

SEAFOOD EXPORT IN COMING YRS Kolkata (PTI): West Bengal has the potential to earn Rs 18000 crore to Rs 20000 crore from seafood exports in the next five years and the state government’s recent ban on use of 20 anoitibiotics in shrimp aquaculture will go a long way in boosting revenue from the sector, an official of seafood exporters body said. Traces of antibiotic residue are a major headwind for exports and a step toward preventing marine exports from the state, Seafood Exporters Association (SEA) president (West Bengal) Rajarshi Banerji said. “The state government has banned 20 antibiotics in the state for use in aquaculture farming. We have achieved the feat after a decade-long fight,” he said on Friday. The West Bengal fisheries department banned the use of 20 antibiotics and other pharmacologically active substances in shrimp aquaculture on July 25 and has formed task forces at the district level to monitor it. “Seafood exports from Bengal have grown six times in eight years to Rs 8000-9000 crore now and in the next five years it can grow to Rs 18000-20,000 crore. The government should continue to take such proactive steps,” BanerjiShrimpssaid.account for the lion share of the export earning in marine products and the ban on antibiotics and its proper implementation by the state government will help the industry grow and create huge employment, he said. The prohibition came into effect in July end. It follows the country’s apex drug regulatory authority asking states and union territories to restrict the availability and use of banned veterinary antibiotics used in aquaculture, particularly for shrimps.

“Making the most of this demographic dividend is India’s opportunity as well as a challenge,” Patra said. Talking about the manufacturing potential of India, he said it is another engine for the take-off of India’s economic growth. Asserting that robust growth of manufacturing is essential to boost exports, he said, it is imperative to overturn conventional wisdom and catch up with other leading manufacturers of the world. To achieve this, he said three things are essential. Firstly the manufacturing sector must adapt to the fourth industrial revolution through automation; data exchange; cyber-physical systems; the internet of things; cloud computing; cognitive computing; the smart factory; and advanced robotics. Secondly, India must develop a skilled labour force by stepping up investment in human capital and thirdly efforts must be directed to boost international competitiveness. “India must raise the share of manufacturing to at least 25 per cent of GDP to become a global manufacturing hub.” He said exports is an avenue to widening of markets beyond national borders.
