Nagpur: People carry ing a cot with a patient on their shoulders through muddy paths and hilly terrain to get to a hospital are a com mon sight in the Gad chiroli area, with offi cials claiming that the district’s primary health centres (PHCs) see 20-30 patients from Chhattisgarh every month.Bhamragadh taluka health officer Dr Milind Meshram attributes the influx of patients from the neighbouring state to “a lack of proper med ical facilities in villages along the border” in the neighbouring state. The number of inter state patients reportedly goes up to 50 from July to December when more malaria cases are report ed, he added. A woman with malar ia was brought to a PHC in Gadchiroli earlier this month from a remote vil lage in Chhattisgarh. Her relatives carried her on their shoulders on a wooden cot. The woman was admitted to Lahiri PHC with malaria, body ache, and leg paralysis. She was then transferred to Hemalkasa’s Lok Bi radri Prakalp Hospital for further treatment. Her condition, however, deteriorated and she died a few days later. “Tribal villagers from Mettawada and Naray anpur in Chhattisgarh prefer coming to Gadchi roli for treatment in case of an emergency and for other medical services,” Dr Meshram said. An accredited social health activist from a Bhamragadh taluka PHC said they get 10-15 patients from Chhattis garh every month with fever, diarrhoea, etc.

elebrating 75 years of Inde pendence is an emotional and landmark mo ment in a country’s history. What’s even more important is that we have been able to hold on to democracy and democratic values, even if at times they get distorted, when other countries in the neighbourhood and else where in the world became infamous as failed. India is a nation on the march in all its glory, with all its cultural richness and di versities despite a divide on religious, ethnic and caste lines. These fault-lines have existed from years prior to the Partition and, therefore, need to be watched to prevent them from deepening to pre vent a 1947 happening in 2047 when the nation comes to gether to celebrate a cente nary of Independence. Paki stan did not learn from 1947 therefore 1971 happened and millions were massacred in what is now Bangladesh.

In the last 75 years India has made tremendous pro gress in the fields of science and technology, space, health, education, poverty eradication, sanitation, in frastructure, sports and, above all, in economy. The success in each of these fields has been noteworthy and praised in the world. In the April-June quar ter, listed FMCG compa nies including - HUL, ITC, Godrej Consumer Product, Nestle, Dabur and Britan nia delivered mixed re sults, reporting an impact on their margins and most ly, a drop in volume in some categories.FMCGcompanies also expect volume decline to continue on the rural side but see some stabilization in the business and recov ery in demand, starting from the third quarter of FY23.Companies such as Bri tannia Industries said that it has taken necessary price increases in Q1 which were not covering inflation at this point but a good part of this will be covered by the July-Sept quarter. ‘’We were not able to take the entire price increase during this quarter. We have taken some price in creases in the first quarter and we will complete that in Q2 of this year,” said Bri tannia Industries MD Varun Berry during recent earnings while responding to a query on the near-term price increase. In April-June, Britannia reported a 13.24 percent de cline in consolidated net profit to Rs 335.74 crore while its sales were up 8.74 percent to Rs 3,700.96 crore. When asked about the inflationary scenario, Dabur India CEO Mohit Malhotra in his post-result analyst call said inflation would not abate in the sec ond‘’Andquarter.second quarter, we will see margin compres sions, but I think in the third quarter onwards when we lap over inflation of around 11%, 12% through the last year, we think that commodities will soften. So, the third and fourth quarters should see a bit of softening of inflation and price increases kick ing in, and the margin pro tection happening in the second half of this fiscal, heDaburadded.India has report ed a marginal increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 441.06 crore. The Union Budget 202021 introduced a new tax regime. HIMANSHU MALHOTRA At the moment it’s just become a day where we get holiday and spend time with our family, watching parades. When I was in Delhi we used to fly kites but it is not happening any more. As you wake up in the morning of Independence day the most amazing thing that happens is pa triotic songs start to play on loud speakers. It reminds us that millions of people of our country have sacrificed their life so that we can live in our country. We did get freedom from the people who were dominating us and literally destroying us. I’m glad all our ancestors, grand parents, thisandalldowninghave.whichtosomethingcontributesotheTheysacrificedwhoevertheirlife.sacrificedfornewgenerationthattheycanourlifetheyI’mjusthopsomewherethelanewegettogethercelebrateday.
ndependence Day reminds every Indian of the beginning of a new era, the start of a new life free from bondage and slav ery. It is for the same reason that Inde pendence Day is given so much impor tance and celebrated in a very grand manner across the country. The 15th of August, 1947 marked the end of British colonialism and the dawn of the demo cratic republic. City First brings to you the true meaning of Independ ence Day as conveyed by celebrities.

SUDHANSHU PANDEY Independence means the rebirth of my country. We are living our life happily because of our freedom fight ers. We can breathe freely. It is signifi cant for me because it gives me a sense of Pride. I feel very proud when I realise, our India was under British rule for so many years, with the help of the freedom fighters and the lead ers we are living our lives freely today. My favourite freedom fighter is “ Bha gat Singh”. I love the films by Manoj Kumar. The film is always patriotic. My favourite patriotic song is “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola”.

ANUJ SACHDEVA Independence Day means free dom of speech for me. I be lieve we have taken it for granted with time since the new gen has not gone through the sac rifices done by so many leaders during the pre-independence era to re move British rule. Fav freedom fighter will always be Gandhi. He is known to be the Father Of The Nation for a reason and has always been praised for his way of living world wide. And, my favourite pa triotic film is Gandhi.
MITAALI NAG Independence Day is surely a day which reinforces the pa triotic spirit in me. The whole year we are busy hus tling in our lives, but this par ticular day always reminds me that this hustling would have no meaning to it if I wouldn’t have an independ ent country to live in. Nobody enjoys slavery that’s why Independence is most important for everyone, everybody wants to be independent. My favourite freedom fighter is “Subhash Chandra Bose”. Poo from ‘ Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham ‘ is one of the most memorable and loved roles in the actress’s career. The Bollywood diva herself finds it unbelievable that even after 21 years of the film’s release the character is still relevant amongst all age groups. Asked if she feels that Poo de serves a movie to herself, Kareena said: “Oh God! Like I think now this character is so relevant with this generation more than it was then.” She added, “I think for the way she is, the way she talks, the kind of millennial Gen-Z kinda words that she uses connect somehow.” The 41-year-old actress added: “So, I think it is because of that more than anything else. Let’s see a filmwhosomeday, knows.”
