Ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda will visit the pollbound state on Friday and Saturday, said sources on Thursday.

The BJP National President will attend multiple events and meetings in Karnataka, added the sources. “Nadda will hold a rath yatra and address rally on March 17 in Chitra- durga district. Next day, he will again hold a rath yatra and address a public rally in Tumkur, Karnataka.”

Nadda will also meet Karyakartas to motivate them ahead of the state elections.

Senior BJP leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had visited Karnataka in February. Karnataka is slated to go for Assembly elections this year.

“We are living in a secular country that is home to Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb. The temple was built by Yashpal Sharma (former PDP leader who died last year) and his sons want me to visit the place. I went inside and someone gave me a small vessel filled with water with a lot of belief and love,” she said.

Raipur (PTI): The Opposition BJP on Thursday hit out at the Congress govt in Chhattisgarh Assembly over “barbaric” police action against its leaders and workers during a protest on “poor” implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state. Police fired tear gas shells, used water cannons and resorted to lathicharge as several BJP workers tried to lay siege to the Assembly building in Raipur during an agitation over implementation of the Centre-sponsored housing scheme on Wednesday. Raising the issue in Zero Hour, BJP members claimed the police used tear gas shells to target r party workers and even women protestors were treated with barbarity.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on whether its 2017 verdict laying down guidelines for itself and high courts for designating lawyers as senior advocates requires any tweaking. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) K M Nataraj, appearing for the Centre, told a bench headed by Justice S K Kaul that the 2017 verdict needs reconsideration.

KOTKAPURA FIRING: ANTICIPATORY BAIL OF SUKHBIR DISMISSED

Chandigarh: A court in Punjab’s Faridkot on Thursday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing incident but granted relief to his father and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Both the Akali leaders last week had moved the Faridkot court for anticipatory bail.
