Bageshwar Dham chief cleared in ‘promoting superstition’ case

Nagpur: The Nagpur police on Wednesday gave self-styled godman and Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Krishna Shastri a clean chit, just days after an antisuperstition crusader filed a complaint against him for allegedly promoting superstitious activities.

The inquiry failed to reveal anything that could attract action under the Black Magic Act, Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said.
Shyam Manav, founder of ‘Akhil Bharatiya Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti’, had lodged the complaint on January 08, stating that Dhirendra Krishna Shastri conducted ‘Shree Ram Katha’ event in Nagpur from January 05-13, during which he held ‘Divya Darbar’ and ‘Pret Darbar’ programmes that promoted superstition.
In his complaint, Manav demanded action under the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013 and the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
On January 09, Manav had challenging the godman to prove his ‘Divya Shakti’ (divine power) and win a targets app-based aggregators who provide cab-taxi services using vehicles registered under the non-transport category
Mumbai: Cracking down on aggregators who provide app-based bike, auto and car taxi services, the Maharashtra government has banned the use of nontransport vehicles for aggregation and ride- pooling (car-pooling), citing the safety and security of passengers.
Non-transport vehicles are ones with white number plates and are not allowed to be used for commercial purposes.

“Police conducted an inquiry based on the complaint lodged against Bageshwar Maharaj by Manav and a video submitted by him as evidence, but found that the programme in question does not attract action under any these laws,” CP Kumar said.
In the video, Bageshwar Maharaj could be seen reciting some lines from Hanuman Chalisa, like ‘Bhoot pishach nikat nahi aave’, which is not a black magic practice, the police commissioner said.
