When people make it a point to lend their support at events such as these, life becomes so much happier and inspiring. Well, I got married in 1989. It came as a surprise for me that the businessmen meet was decided to be held in the same city as that of my wedding venue to make it convenient for everyone to attend the function. So not for once did I feel that I was alone or that my father wasn’t there. An interesting incident that I would like to share is from the time when I was in-charge of the computer centre in 2002. I was also handling work pertaining to electronic media. It was the first time that Modiji was contesting an election. First he became CM and then in six months he had to get elected and he decided to fight from Rajkot. Since it was a high profile election, people from all over Gujarat were expected and we wanted to make use of this opportunity. We built a writeup and 15 to 20 of us did our groundwork and shared our thoughts with Modiji. But as we all know, Modiji, has a different and varied perspective to everything and he gave us eye-opening suggestions about how we could use the presence of a huge gathering to our advantage. As we had figured out that those part of the event would certainly have relatives and friends wanting to support Modiji, we decided to tap that potential. Eventually we made lists of all the people who would vote for Modiji as suggested by the attendees, and then we monitored them throughout. An interesting aspect that came out of this event was when we came up with the idea of recording an IVR kind of message by Modiji. It was a simple but extremely effective message as in those days technology was not so advanced and nothing like this had been done earlier. We got a high quality voice recording done with automatic dialing features, and got all the STDs and PCOs to work towards this campaign. It turned out to be fantastic and people were elated to receive calls saying “Hello, It is me, Narendra Modi. This election is very important…” in Gujarati and an instant bond was created with our voter base. The campaign created a kind of a stir in the circles and people were thrilled with the newness of the idea. Not just this, Modiji because of his futuristic vision, asked me to figure out a way to share his message across to all the stakeholders at once. Every Saturday or Sunday he would come to Rajkot but in two days how many meetings could he be present for? He suggested we record a video of his message and buy VCD players for each of the 18 wards in which the recording could be played to the people. Modiji always thinks ahead of time and his ideas strike a cord with the people because of their innovativeness. This is the reason why people connect more and more with Modiji. In February, my wife, daughter and I went to meet Modiji. One knows immediately that you are standing in front of a great leader when he addresses you with first name. And this is how Modiji is! He always begins the interaction with “How are you? How is your mother? Hope you didn’t face any problem during COVID!” Meeting him is like meeting a family member and there is nothing formal about it. I am into micro-finance and I shared with him a few ideas that I was planning for Gujarat and said that we must implement the idea all over India. Immediately he took interest in the suggestions and responded positively. Last but not least, Modiji is the perfect Management Guru. He is a master delegator as he knows exactly who has the potential to successfully complete a particular work. He also ensures that all the IAS officers, who possess deep knowledge about the functioning of the country, work hard towards the development of the nation. He does not limit his reach only to the party members, but takes everyone along to work for progress. Another observation that I have made is that if you show him something on a paper, he never touches it. He will ask you to explain everything orally and will come up with the solution there and then, leaving nothing for the future. All I can say is that he is a master of Monkey Theory and he uses it for maximum benefit.

KHURSHID BACKS RAGA AMID RISING ROW IN CONGRESS OVER AZAD’S RESIGNATION

comes in the wake of a spate of resignations by senior Congress leaders, Ghulam Nabi Azad being the latest to put in his papers although he had earlier clearly declined the overtures from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emphatically stating that he would die a Congressman. A person familiar with the developments said, “It is still a near certainty that Rahul Gandhi will take charge as National President, while Gehlot is most likely to be made something on the lines of a Working Executive President saddled with the additional responsibility of stemming the decline in the Congress party at the national level.”Another strong reason why Gehlot may be seriously contemplating a national role for himself is the fact that Rajasthan may be headed for a change of political guard, as has been traditionally witnessed when power between the Congress and BJP, has been the rule rather than exception.

New Delhi: The SC on Friday referred the freebies case to a threejudge bench while saying that the issue of freebies promised by the political parties during election campaigns requires extensive debate. A bench of CJ NV Ramana, Justices Hima Kohli and CT Ravikumar said looking at the “complexity” of the freebies issues, the case is referred to a three-judge bench. The apex court while referring the matter to a threejudge bench said that it’s 2013 judgment in the Subramaniam Balaji v/s govt of Tamil Nadu case on the same issue might need reconsideration.

New Delhi: Hours after Congress veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from all party posts on Friday, party leader Salman Khurshid extended his support for Rahul Gandhi. Khurshid said that it was “not mature” that the people associated with the party for a long time have left it over small issues. “Rahul is our leader and will remain so. We don’t have a give-and-take relationship with RaGa. It is our duty to do something for the party. It is not mature that people who were associated with the party for a long time leave over such a small thing,” said S Khurshid.

The source added, “The law-and-order situation in Rajasthan is at its worst today where communal riots are erupting too frequently. The Rajputana-Hindu state also boasts of the Jhat and Brahmin communities being able to keep communal strife at bay for so long but now finds itself becoming a hotbed of religious strife life never witnessed before. These dominant communities also find themselves at loggerheads with the ruling dispensation and feel deprived of opportunities and politicalChiefpower.”Minister Gehlot may assume a national role in the Congress that would also give him the leeway to groom his son as a prospective Chief Minister of the future for Rajasthan post the tenure of the probable BJP government expected to return to power in 2023. This would also leave very little room (read time) for upstart CM aspirant Sachin Pilot to manoeuvre his position in Rajasthan where state assemblies are scheduled in or before December 2023.

The post had fallen vacant upon resig nation of Vijay Kumar Sinha, against whom a no confidence motion was moved by the ‘Mahagathbandhan’. The proceedings were, however, marked by BJP members protest ing “dropping” from the list of businesses a report of the Ethics Committee. The report was on the conduct of several MLAs of the RJD, which was then in the opposi tion, in March last year when Sinha was held hostage inside the Speaker’s chamber for several hours. The BJP members had entered the House carrying placards and raising slogans to press for the demand for tabling of the report, and entered the well when Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari took the Chair. However, as Hazari ordered commencement of the Speaker’s election, BJP members relented and took their seats. According to sources, it has been widely specu lated that were the BJP to win power in Bihar, it might back Nityanand Rai as CM in a bid to win over the Yadav commu nity, the most populous and politically assertive caste group in the state, which has, by and large, remained steadfast in support to Lalu Prasad.

A few insiders from the Congress, which is a crucial ally of the ruling coalition here said that ring-fencing MLAs by parking them in a resort in a ‘friendly state’ such as West Bengal or Bihar is an option, which was mulled as a potential poaching threat from the BJP. Mumbai (PTI): The OTT market is set to do an encore of what multiplexes did to the VCR/VCP/VCD segment in the early 2000s and is set to become a ` 12,000-crore industry by 2023, up from ` 2,590 crore in 2018, says a report. According to SBI Research, the over-the-top or OTT market is expected to reach ` 11,944 crore by 2023, up from ` 2,590 crore in 2018, logging in a compound annual growth of 36%.This may lead to a repeat of the sudden death of the VCR/VCP/DVD industry that boomed in the 1980s, with the exponential rise of multiplexes since early 2000s across metro/urban areas, the report warns. OTT has already chipped away 7-9% of the entertainment industry share and revenue, and is consistently growing with over 40-odd players and offering original media content in all languages.Quoting various industry reports, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, the group chief economic adviser, said there are over 45 crore OTT subscribers today in the country and this is expected to reach 50 crore by end-2023. This strong growth is led by affordable high-speed mobile Internet, doubling of Internet users, increased adoption of digital payments and discounted price offered by global players such as Disney+Hotstar (14 crore), Amazon Prime Video (6 crore), Netflix (4 crore), Zee5 (3.7 crore) and Sonyliv (2.5 crore) offering plans at 70-90% cheaper than the US. The OTT space is also seeing number of local and regional players with players like Sonyliv Voot, Zee5, AltBalaji.Therise of OTT is expected to eat into cinemas’ profits as over 50% of the people use OTTs more than 5 hrs a month. What’s more, major studios have realized creating streaming series and movies is far more profitable than traditional filmmaking, especially if they build their own streaming platforms.

The presence of the dragon in China, where it is called Long is also ancient and integral to various cultural, spiritual and social Dragonstraditions.aremembers of the Chinese zodiac, one of the sacred guardian creatures that make up the Four Benevolent Animals and provide justification for imperial dynasties. Different kinds of these aquatic, intelligent, semidivine beings form a hierarchy in ancient Chinese cosmology and appear in creation myths of various indigenous traditions. When Jesuit missionaries reintroduced Christianity in China in the 16th century, the dragon’s existence was not contested. Instead, they became associated with a more Westernized explanation – the Devil. Today, dragons are celebrated and revered in Buddhist, Taoist and Dragonsenlightenment.bolstraditionsConfucianismassym-ofstrengthandalsoappear in Anatolian religions, Sumerian myths, Germanic sagas, Shinto beliefs and in Abrahamic scriptures. The creature’s repeated and important presence across global religions and cultures raises an interesting question: Why did dragons appear at all?

AND THE REASON FOR

Religions and cultures across the globe are rife with dragon lore. In fact, across the vast majority of religions, there is a mythic trope some scholars call Chaoskampf, a German word that translates as a struggle against chaos. This term, used by mythologists, refers to a pervasive motif involving a heroic character who slays a primordial chaos “monster,” often with serpentine or dragon like characteristics and a massive size that dwarfs humans.

Prizewinning author and scientist Carl Sagan wrote a book on the subject, arguing that dragons evolved from a human need to merge science with myth, the rational with the irrational, as part of an evolutionary response to real predators. His thoughts are an expansion of proposed ideas beginning in the 19th century or earlier as newly discovered fossils were linked to representations of dragons across the Fullglobe.orpartial remains of numerous extinct species may explain the physical attributes of dragons. In 2020, two scholars, DorothyBelle Poli and Lisa Stoneman, even proposed that the fossilized remains of Lepidodendron, a plant with a scale like resemblance, may be behind the global presence of dragons.

DRAGONSETERNAL One enduring reason dragons continue to appear in our world could be because they represent the power of nature. Stories about people taming dragons can be seen as stories about the ability of humans to dominate forces that cannot always be controlled. To gain control over a dragon underscores the problematic idea that humans are superior to all other animals in nature. Dragons challenge the concept of human biological supremacy, raising questions about what it means if humans were forced to reposition ror and power of the dragon evoke mystery and suggest that not all phenomena are easily explained or understood. Scholars have also cited natural geologic processes as explanations for dragon lore – particularly when they are associated with natural disasters. Firebreathing dragons, for instance, might be an explanation for mysterious fires that observers attempted to rationalize as a dragon’s flame. Natural gas vents, methane produced from decaying matter and other sources of underground gas deposits can produce a blaze if accidentally lit. Before the mechanics of combustion were understood fully, such events were deemed indicators of a dragon’s presence, providing a cause for the seemingly implausible. he premiere of HBO’s prequel to “Game undoubtedlyDragon”“HouseThrones,”ofofthewill bring more attention to the ferocious dragon. Two-legged or four, firebreathing or shapeshifting, scaled or feathered, dragons fascinate people across the world with their legendary power. This shouldn’t be surprising.Longbefore “Harry Potter,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and other modern interpretations increased the dragon’s notoriety in the 21st century, artefacts from ancient civilizations indicated their importance in many religions across theAsworld.ascholar of monsters, I’ve found dragons to be a nearly universal symbol for many civilizations. Scientists have tried to come up with explanations for the myth of dragons, but their enduring existence is testimony to their narrative power and mystery.

ANCIENT DRAGONS, ANCIENT STORIES

DRAGONS IN CHINESE AND OTHER CULTURES

SYMBOLIC POWER A long-proposed theory is that there are natural explanations for dragons. That’s not to say the beasts of myth existed in real life but rather that fossils, living animals and geological features existing in the natural world inspired their Pulitzercreation.
