Bharat Dixit Jaipur: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) student leaders broke open the locks of the Central Library, on Monday, which had been closed for a long time. RU General Secretary Arvind Jajra reached the Central Library along with the students and did sloganeering before breaking the locks.

TOP TWEETS ly for India, soon after the powerplay overs, Rohit ended up chipping one straight to long off. In the next over as Kohli fell in a similar manner, India was staring at a crisis. This brings us to perhaps the most crucial surprise – Ravindra Jadeja being sent in at number 4 to counter the threat of Pakistani spinners. The move gave India a leftright combo in the tricky middle overs. It was tactically brilliant as it meant that Pakistan had to keep their left arm spinner for the end. Jadeja stitched two critical partnerships to bail India out of grave trouble, first with Surya and then with Pandya. When Hardik walked in, Naseem Shah had just rattled Surya’s stumps and was bowling at full tilt. But Hardik nonchalantly moved across to the first ball he faced and flicked it for a couple of runs. This calm and confidence was a sign of things to come. As Jadeja and Pandya steadily brought the target down, Babar was flustered and took more time than allowed to set his fields. The result was a penalty which allowed India the luxury of having an extra fielder inside the ring. Suddenly, the rate of 10 per over didn’t look too daunting. In the penultimate over Hardik kept his calm to hit 3 boundaries which left India only 7 runs to win. Though Jadeja lost his wicket of the first ball of the last over, Hardik’s final flourish for 6 ultimately took India to a famous win. His confidence was reflected in his claim that he fancied his chances even if they had to chase 15 runs in the final over. Besides the victory and Hardik heroics, King Kohli getting into his groove is a most welcome sign for Indian cricket. But the top order jitters remain a big worry. India hope that Rahul and Rohit will soon hit top gear as the tournament progresses. Victory in the critical encounter with the arch rivals puts India in a great space to retain the Asia Cup that they are currently defending! THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL igh stakes games are often won or lost in the mind! In a close and tension-packed contest, India secured a crucial win over Pakistan to put their Asia Cup campaign on the right track. There were doubts ever since Pakistan crushed the ‘Men in Blue’ by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup last year. But on Sunday night, Team India turned the tables in a gripping encounter which delighted Indian fans but also satiated Pakistan cricket lovers as the game was thrilling till the very end when India won by 5 wickets with just 2 balls to spare!!Standing calm at the end with a raised hand was Hardik Pandya, the man of the match. Pandya’s all-round excellence and even more significantly, his cool composure in tense situations was reminiscent of India’s ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni at his best. His calculated aggression both while batting and bowling has given India the balance that it badly lacked in the last T20 World Cup when Hardik was unable to bowl. India’s other star allrounder, Ravindra Jadeja too stood tall and proved yet again how good he is as a batsman. It was the fantastic partnership between him and Pandya that lifted India from a tough spot to cross over the winning line. Frankly, it is India’s classy All Rounders who give a special edge to this team. INDIA SURPRISEMADEMOVES Earlier, India made surprise moves that possibly caught Pakistan off guard. First, in selecting the Playing XI, they chose Dinesh Karthik over Rishabh Pant and played both young pacers, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh. The surprises didn’t end there as India’s pacers used the short ball as a weapon to great advantage starting with Bhuvneshwar Kumar who got rid of Pakistan Captain Babar Azam. Later, Mohammad Rizwan couldn’t tackle Hardik’s bouncer and guided it straight to the third man fielder. Indian pacers were so good that they claimed all 10 wickets and prevented Pakistan from reaching a menacing total. As India came out to chase the tricky target of 148, they were rocked back early with KL Rahul going for a duck. This brought in Virat Kohli to the crease but for once luck was smiling on him - and Fakhar Zaman dropped him, much to the relief of Indian fans. Virat then showed signs of regaining his touch as he played his 100th T20 game for Team India. Both Rohit and Virat put on a reassuring partnership. UnfortunateWhen Hardik walked in, Naseem Shah had just rattled Surya’s stumps and was bowling at full tilt. But calmfacedacrossnonchalantlyHardikmovedtothefirstballheandflickeditforacoupleofruns.Thisandconfidencewasasignofthingstocome.AsJadejaandPandyasteadilybroughtthetargetdown,Babarwasflusteredandtookmoretimethanallowedtosethisfields

S tanding calm at the end with a raised hand was Hardik Pandya, the man of the match. Pandya’s allround excellence and even more significantly, his cool composure in tense situations was reminiscent of India’s ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni at his best. His calculated aggression both while batting and bowling has given India the balance that it badly lacked in the last T20 World Cup when Hardik was unable to bowl. If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way. Buddha olitics in Karnataka is closely itywithintertwinedthemajor-Lingayat sect which counts former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa as its biggest follower. Given the influence the Lingayat seers wield on the state’s politics, even Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached out to them recently and met Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, a prominent Lingayat spiritual guru. The pontiff is facing allegations of sexual harassment and has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) based on complaints by two girls aged 15 and 16 years. He was later detained by the police. Both are students of a school run by the Murugha mutt. In their FIR the girls alleged that they were sexually assaulted over a period of three years. Sharanaru is the mutt’s chief priest. Looking at its political implications, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai refused to comment on the case and said that police have full freedom to bring out the truth. His predecessor Yediyurappa, however, defended Sharanaru saying that he had been “falsely implicated”. Why would two young girls falsely implicate the head priest of a powerful mutt is difficult to understand. What is also not understandable is Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the issue. In a religion-driven society we assume that seers can do no wrong, especially when they can make or unmake the political fortunes of many. BSY giving a clean chit to the seer looks like an attempt to influence investigation. One cannot declare the pontiff guilty when the investigation into the case has just begun but can one forget Asaram Bapu and Gurmeet Ram Rahim? POLITICS AND TRUST

z But why are the lo cal political parties objecting to addition in the voter list? The voting structure will have 25-30 lakh new voters, which will get added to the al ready existing 70 lakh voters. And these will be those individuals, who are in no way af filiated or connected to the local political par ties. Their loyalties will be with their re spective parent states and thus, people are a little worried. Hence, Omar Abdullah said that voters are being imported, Mehbooba Mufti said that BJP is being benefitted through this, but the ‘law is the law.’

z How true is this statistic of 25 lakh new voters since the Election Officers in Kashmir will also have to substantiate and give clarifica tion to people over it? It was definitely a bona fide and rough assessment of a bu reaucrat, which result ed in confusion. Every one knows that since such major changes have occurred, so more people can get added or the number could be less too. But the of ficer said the number and as a reaction to it, the people and the Election underthinghascation.wasuncalledministration,me,trol.madeupneededpositionthatworriedpersonnelCommissionbecameandpanickedtherewillbeoptoit,soittobehushedandaneffortwasfordamageconButaccordingtoasastudentofaditwasfor.TherenoneedforclarifiSincethelawbeenmade,everyelsewouldfallthelaw.

Abrogation of Article 370 is a miracle in In dia’s and BJP’s political history. It is due to the abrogation that life is back to normal in Kash mir. The lives of com mon people are secured. Normalcy has returned. As far as law and order is concerned, terrorist activities have gone down considerably and I would say about 60-70 percent of such activi ties have been curtailed. Stone pelting has gone down by 90 percent. So overall, the situation is better, but there is one issue before the govern ment i.e. target killings. We have not been able to stop target killings. 22 people have been tar geted and killed to date. The law & order is per fect, except for the sen timental hurt caused by target killings.

z So does that mean that businesses will witness further de velopment? Surely, that will hap pen. Few days ago, an Investment Summit was organised here and businessmen from across the nation had come here to invest. Over the past 70 years, an investment worth Rs 15,000 crore had been made in Kashmir. Now compare that to the past two years since PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieu tenant Governor Manoj Sinha have been handling the matters, an investment of Rs 65,000 crore has come in. In near future, in vestment in Kashmir would further be en hanced. Now, anyone can buy a property or make other invest ments, which wasn’t the case earlier.

z How do you evalu ate the lives of com mon people and business activities in Kashmir in compari son to the lives of people living in PoK? Kashmiris are doing better, they are happi er and placed better overall. The situation in PoK is bad, whereas here, the government had tried to provide everything in 70 years. The life of the com mon man here, their social status, and the facilities provided to them in the Valley, is far better than the Muslims living in PoK.

CEO & Editor-in-Chief of First India & Bharat24, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra during The New JC Show, gives an in-depth analysis and observation of the current political clime in Kashmir. He answers on the prevalent questions stressing that the Valley is all set to face Assembly Polls in March-April next year; BJPNational Conference alliance likely to form government as Gupkar alliance falls flat and will go to Assembly Polls alone, and highlights on how the non-Kashmiris are being settled in the region and how law and order situation has improved under the watchful eyes of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Excerpts...(Part I)

z How do you evalu ate the Hindu senti ment in the Valley, especially during important festivals? There is an age-old gap or trust deficit between Hindus and Muslims and it will take time to bridge that gap. Arti cles 370 and 35 (A) have been removed, and the government has made the required changes, but on the ground, the hearts of local Mus lims have not changed. They still practice a lit tle ‘distanced’ ap proach. If you visit the villages, the local Mus lim population is still of the opinion that you (Hindus) do not have to return. You know there has been just one fail ure of Abrogation of Article 370, that it has been unable to solve the issues of Kashmiri Pandits. The sentiment of the Muslim commu nity has not changed. Until and unless the society itself works to wards cohesion and eradicates such a mindset, things will not change.

z How will Amit Shah and Manoj Sinha address the is sue of 370 and nonresident voters? See the issue of voters is crystal clear. The mi grant voters have been given the right to vote. About Amit Shah and Manoj Sinha, they are working properly. They are being termed the ‘Double Engine Gov ernment.’ It is the per fect combination of perfect communica tion. The situation is in complete control and I don’t see any challenge coming be fore these two.

See the harsh reality with your eyes, but only infinite hope with your soul. —Dr Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO & Editor-in-Chief, First India JAIPUR | TUESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2022www.firstindia.co.in I https://firstindia.co.in/epapers/jaipur I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 102ND FRONT POSTAL REG NO. After 370, life is back to normal in Kashmir with tourism revolution: Dr Chandra

z Will the romance of Kashmir, depicted in old movies, re turn? The romance of movies has started returning with the government saying that from Sep tember 30, multiplexes and cinemas, which had been banned for the past 25 odd years due to fatwas, will start in the Valley. Film shootings will com mence. It is needed now that the government gives additional sup port to all those who come for film shooting in Kashmir. I can re member the 1950s and 1960s, when Ghulam Bakshi was the Chief Minister here and he had met PM Nehru af ter which Nehru called Raj Kapoor and asked him to shoot movies in Kashmir. So the gov ernment also needs to follow suit. But one thing that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha needs to address is that the Mullahs who issued fatwas, should not hap pen and should be with drawn.

z Will tourism sector see a resurgence with changing times? Definitely. After the ab rogation of Article 370, there is a ‘Tourism Revolution’ in Kash mir. More than one crore people have vis ited Kashmir in the last one year, hotel rooms are completely booked for the next two months. It seems that the entire nation wants to experience Kashmir hence, the ‘Tourism Revolution’ has en hanced the earning prospects of the locals, further aiding in the local economy and de velopment too.

z What about the Gupkar alliance? The Gupkar alliance, which was an alliance between Abdullah and Mufti factions, exists no more, and this is what the Central Gov ernment had desired.

z How do you visual ise the law and order since the Article 370 has been abrogated?

Dr Jagdeesh Chan dra : It is definitely an expansion of Democ racy and the political landscape will surely change. Under the new law, a person who is not a permanent resi dent of Kashmir, is also allowed to vote, for example, the para military force person nel, labour class and others. This means, about 20-25 lakh voters will be added, which will be about one-third of the current voter number of 77 lakh. Similarly, the assem bly seats have been in creased from 83 to 90, i.e. 6 in Jammu and 1 in Kashmir. So the number of voters will increase and voting percentage will also in crease. And the 24 seats that are left va cant of PoK, perhaps one day, if Narendra Modi and Amit Shah’s mood changes, they would bring those back to the fold. Overall, these developments have expanded democ racy and it should be believed that the basic structure of voting will be changed hence, it will be a major devel opment that will affect the political landscape of Kashmir.

Dr Jagdeesh Chandra with Poornima Mishra, Aditi Nagar, Naina Yadav, Sonal Dahiya , Shashikant Sharma and Tajamul during The New JC Show at Taj Vivanta, Srinagar.

TO BE CONTINUED...

z What will be the impact of an in crease in seats and by when will the elections be conduct ed here? Elections would take place. They are a way to re-establish democracy in the Valley and all parties have demanded that elections should be held. The Government of India is also in agree ment with this. Modi and Shah agree and the entire nation is in agreement too. On in ternational platforms too, the government is being praised that it is trying to wouldpower,rightationsinceorcouldters,nessesthefirstmeansthenitely,placethatmenthappen.thatvember,tosinceprocessnow,ingsituation,keepingElectionsthequestiondemocracy.re-establishNowtheiswhenwillelectionstakeplace.takeplaceinmindtime,andprevailconditions.AsoftheconstitutionalisinthewaythevoterlisthasbefinalisedtillNohence,beforeelectionswon’tThegovernhasalreadysaidthepollswon’ttakethisyearsodefiitwilltakeplacenextyear,whichthatsincethethreemonthsofyear,theValleywitextremewintheelectionthus,beheldinAprilthereabout.Also,thepoliticalsituisalsobecomingforthepartyinsotheelectionssurelytakeplace.

z What will be the political strategy adopted by PDP and National Confer ence? Amit Shah’s policies and strategies have started to work. So PDP and NC will go their separate ways. Only time will tell the result of these elections.

During the show #JConGhulamNabiAzad trended toponAll-IndiaTwitter

How do you visualise the role of youth in this? As far as the craze is concerned, the voting sector has been en larged. First, it was said that those turning 18 years of age by Janu ary 2019, will be allowed the right to vote, but that has now been changed to October 2022. Then, if we speak about Modi’s craze among the voters, well, voters in Kashmir have had a separate tangent for so many years and have had sympathy with separatists. They have had some anger too, but we can hope, like you mentioned that instead of stones peo ple held the Tricolour this time, so the situa tion should become bet ter with time. It is said that the young voters boycott voting and go on holiday on voting day, but, hopefully, the new atmosphere that is being created, will have a positive impact.

So their fear and apprehen sions are due to the change that will occur, but everything will happen under the pur view of law and hence, no one can raise a fin ger. Politically, we can say that the govern ment has played a mas terstroke. On one hand, democracy will be expanded and on the other, the power that the local political parties used to enjoy and would use to boy cott voting through which they would im plement their political agenda, will not be the case anymore. So it is but natural that they are objecting to it.

z How do you see the role of Ghulam Nabi Azad in the active politics of Kashmir? His life now is a politi cal tragedy. He is a good individual, has been the Chief Minister, he is popular. He stands for secularism. He has a dignified and decent image, but he was not being treated well in Congress. He has left Congress after he was not given due honour. There was a grapevine that he grew close to Narendra Modi and that he would join BJP, but perhaps there are ideological differences between them, so they couldn’t get along. But the government hon oured him with Padma Bhushan and perhaps someday, it may sud denly happen that he moves to BJP with Anand Sharma.

t’s time to create room for the next joyful fashion colour trend: Pacific Ocean blue. Although the vivid colour has a bit more impact than, for example, a conventional blue tone, it can still be worn with weren’t the only pieces that use the popular hue. The shade made waves throughout the smile-inducing resort 2023 collection, from oversized sweaters to party-ready dresses. The jolting blue tone also gave classic suits an upgraded sense of fashion. Let’s talk about the significance these colours hold: The light blue has a charming nostalgic atmosphere. It has elements of a tune from the 1960s, but it also has an electric vibe like the 1980s. Dresses, skirts, and puffy blouses have frequently included the light blue colour scheme, the hue is typical for both geometric and floral designs.Along with neon, it has also become common to pair light blue with other vivid hues. he world is a harsher place than it was when my generation was younger. I find, when I interact with students across schools and colleges, that today kids are under tremendous pressure. Although a lot of this pressure might be self-inflicted – the stress to be perceived as ‘cool and with it’, the strain on one’s studies that pilfers down from an ultimate burden of sometimes unreasonable expectations including and not limited to earning a big salary; children nowadays simply aren’t as footloose and fancy-free as we were. Was a time when we, as kids, were able to discuss, if not, at least destress, with people our age, be it colony friends, siblings, or cousins. This too is quickly vanishing for a new generation of children. The fact that an increasing number of families are now nuclear setups, within that construct too, the number of singlechild families is increasing; this leaves little or no similar-age company for kids these days. All this can induce a feeling of frustration, severe anxiety, isolation, and loneliness. Where do these students vent? Whom do they confide in? How do they ‘cope’ and ‘deal’? This is why I always propagate Writing to all the students, children and parents I come in contact with. Aside from the core benefits of Writing Skills –better articulation in school subjects, help with college applications, and a wider communications expertise in later work-life; writing can become that self-therapeutic, constant companion that can help alleviate the various encumbrances of growing up in modern times. How?

While many children spend their free time in banal pursuits such as violent video games or whiling away their hours aimlessly, writing is a great activity that will positively preoccupy a student. It can be immersive, educative, and a telling peek into one’s own likes and dislikes, character traits, and personality. It is one of the few exercises that are as much about intellectually engaging the self, as it is about enhancing both external skills and insightful learnings. Of course, the biggest fringe benefit of this ‘pastime’ could well be the birth of a truly gifted writer; and we all know the world can use a few more of those!

If young students can cultivate a habit of sparing a few minutes each evening or night, and quickly making a short diary entry about their day, each day; over a period of time, they will find that not only do they have a wonderful record of their lives but they will also feel distressed and relieved. Why? Because writing about one’s ups and downs, highs and lows, serves as a great release. It is like confiding in someone. It is like talking to a loved one. Except here, there is the added advantage of no judgement. Things that are put down are just between the writer and his or her diary. It is immensely satisfying and a great release of pent-up emotions. All the angst, frustrations and negativity one feels pours out of one’s system. What remains is a calm, serene equilibrium that helps centre mind, body and soul, ready to face fresh challenges, positively predisposed.
