A positive response came from Pakistan’s Finance Min ister Miftah Ismail who said that the government could “consider importing edible items from India”. Talks are reported to be underway to work out modalities. If things work out then it will be the first time after 2019 that Paki stan will open its border with India to receive humanitarian supplies. It had downgraded trade ties with India after In dia scrapped Article 370 which granted special status to J&K. These developments come after Indian cricketers’ con cern towards Pakistan’s pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi who could not play in the match against India due to injury. Also, Twitterati on both sides celebrated Hardik Pandya’s gesture of hugging Paki stan’s Rizwan. A natural dis aster and cricket could bring the two countries closer.

AZAD THE PIED PIPER CONGRESSMENENTIRECHARMSFLOCKOF ongress Party is on the verge of being wiped out in Kash mir where not one or two but 50 of its mem bers have decided to sever their ties with the Grand Old Party in favour of Ghulam Nabi Azad. Such en masse exodus from Con gress was earlier seen in Ma nipur, Tripura and Goa. The vet eran Congress leader recently resigned from the party and cas tigated Rahul Gandhi for con sulting his security guards rath er than senior and old loyalists. Azad’s verdict was that Rahul does not have an aptitude for pol itics, a view which is shared by many. The news of Azad planning to launch a party drew Congress leaders and workers who see the former chief minister as a new political force in the state propped, in all likelihood, by the BJP and shared his views on Rahul. Rahul is in an unenviable sit uation of presiding over the un making of the party founded by his forefathers, which the BJP and dissenters want.

WHAT IS THE CASE AGAINST HEMANT SOREN? Former CM of Jharkhand Raghubar Das had claimed in February, 2022 that (Hemant) Soren had misused his post and position and allocated a mining plot to himself. Das claimed it was corruption and conflict of interest. He also accused him of violating the Representation of People Act. Shivshankar Sharma, an RTI activist, had filed two PILs demanding CBI and ED probe into the Jharkhand mining scandal. Soren is also accused of having invested in shell companies. In May 2022, the poll panel had sent a notice to Soren seeking his side of the story. According to Article 192 of the Constitution, if any ques tion arises as to whether a member of a House of the Legislature of a state has be come subject to any of the disqualifications, the ques tion shall be referred to the Governor whose decision shall be Accordingfinal. to reports, the Chief Minister’s team ar gued with the poll panel that the clauses of the (election) law that he is accused of breaking do not apply in this particular case! “They argued for nearly two hours. Following which we gave our rejoinder and showed it is a matter of con flict of interest and there are a series of judgments of the Supreme Court which cover this (case),” BJP’s counsel Kumar Harsh told reporters after the Election Commis sion hearing on August 12. Hemant Soren, who is star ing at a huge crisis in his po litical career and in the even tuality of his having to quit the CM’s office, is certain to challenge an adverse verdict by the EC in a court of law. It may be recalled that his party, the JMM, had romped to power in December 2019 by defeating the Raghubar Dasled BJP government. The rul ing JMM-Congress-RJD alli ance has 49 legislators (JMM 30, Congress 18 and RJD 1) in the 82-member state assem bly (including a nominated Anglo-Indian member). However, retaining a major ity may not be a problem for the alliance government even if Soren and his MLA brother Basant Soren—who is too fac ing EC scrutiny for owning a mining lease—are finally dis qualified from the House. There is, however, the pos sibility that three Congress MLAs, who were suspended by the party after their sub sequent arrest with over Rs 49 lakh in cash in Kolkata in July, may choose to abstain or refuse to back Hemant Soren’s government. Even in such a situation, the ruling alliance will continue to en joy a simple majority in the Jharkhand House. Such a situation, however, could be fraught with dan gers for Soren as several the ories may come into play. For instance, there could be some issues within the Soren Pari var as his (Soren’s) sister-in law Sita Soren, an MLA of the party had accused the government of failing to curb corruption. There is also speculation about some ruling alliance MLAs switch ing sides, which can eclipse the future of Soren govern ment in a crunch situation. In any case, the hassle-free continuance of the alliance government or choosing a ca pable successor of Soren may become an uphill task. As per Plan B, the JMM has the op tion of continuing with Soren as the chief minister even if he gets disqualified since the Constitution allows a legisla tive assembly non-member to become or continue as CM for sixThemonths.JMM can easily use this time-limit to try and get relief from the court. But this may become completely impossible in case Soren is barred from contesting polls and a judicial relief is unavailable within the crucial six months. In such a case, Soren will be forced to pick someone from his fami ly—wife Kalpana, father or mother Rupi Soren—as a stop gap CM. Sources said letters of support for these prospective CM candidates have been tak en from all JMM MLAs.

akistan is in deep distress with mas sive flood waters covering most of its land area. Pa kistan’s Climate Minister Sherry Rehman said these were the worst floods in the country’s history. Situation is said to be so bad that even choppers are unable to spot a dry patch to land. Blamed on climate change, the floods have taken a toll of over 1,100 lives and displaced over 33 million people. The country is facing an acute shortage of food, vegetables, and medi cines and housing tents among other things. Paki stan’s problem is compound ed by high inflation and forein debts and it is also des perately looking for financial assistance.

According to the recently released data by NCRB, Rajasthan ranks first in the country in the cases of violence and atrocities against women. It is shameful that 6,337 cases of rape have been registered in the state in the last one year, which is the biggest proof of the failure of the Congress Government.

The number of rape cases in the state rose from 3,305 in 2017 to 4,335 in 2018, 5,997 in 2019 and 5,310 in 2020, the data showed. As many as 4,28,278 cases of crime against women were registered across the country in 2021. Careless driving and overtaking caused maximum fatalities in Uttar Pradesh (11,479 out of 42,853) which accounted for 26.8 per cent of total deaths, followed by Rajasthan — 10 per cent (4,299) deaths. According to the latest report of the NCRB, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol contributed 1.9 per cent of the total accidents, which resulted in injuries to 7,235 people and 2,935 deaths. A total of 1,55,622 people lost their lives due to road accidents in 2021.

W hile the targetedBJPthe State Government over the NCRB report saying it refl ects the failure of the Congress government to tackle crime, the chairperson of the women commission sought to defend the situation saying several cases were found to be fake. Women Commission chief Rehana Rayaz Chisti said, “Increase in crime against women is a certainly a worrying situation but the other aspect is that many cases are found fake in Unioninvestigation.”Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat strongly attacked the Gehlot government saying Rajasthan is currently in the hands of the fake people. “They won’t change, we have to change them. The government is not ashamed to see Rajasthan number one in rape cases, but we real Rajasthanis feel annoyed,” he said. Similarly, BJP state chief Satish Poonia blamed the law and order situation in the Congress rule. Deputy LoP Rajendra Rathore blamed the absence of a full-time Home Minister in the state for the increase in crime. Justifying the NCRB data, State Ministers Tika Ram Jully and Udai Lal Anjana said that the crime figures have increased due to mandatory FIR in Rajasthan. “In UP dalit girls are cremated at night, but even the FIR is not registered. Whereas in Rajasthan criminals are not hidden but they are brought on record, that is why crime fi gures have increased in Rajasthan, Jully said.

 Could you shed some light on Amit Shah’s personality? He is the Home Minister, but when needed, he becomes a normal party worker and started carrying out duties as such, and in the very next instance, he can transform himself to the role of Home Minister. How does he do that? You are absolutely right. He is a multi-faceted man, he has junoon and he only enters the fray where he thinks the party is on backfoot. You are right, he leaves Home Ministry and works like party worker on the ground. Like he did in Varanasi where he stayed for a week. He personally called up 1,500 people during that election in a week, connected with them and then won over all the seats there. He is like a Yoddha (warrior), Narendra Modi’s warrior. Modi preferred Home over Finance for his ‘troubleshooter’ Amit Shah to execute Article 370 agenda: Dr Chandra

 In 2019, when Modi cabinet was being formed, it was said that Amit Shah would have been given the Finance Ministry, but suddenly a change happens and Shah is made Home Minister. How did this change happen? Yes, you are right. He won from Ahmedabad like several others who contested. But since he has a free hand, he must have consulted with someone or with the thought on the lines of becoming Finance minister. His family landed in Delhi thinking Amit Shah would be sworn in as Finance Minister. But Narendra Modi’s had different plans. His farsightedness, vision and talent coupled with his determination that he wants to remove Article 370 and realised that other than Amit Shah there is no other leader, since he had seen that in Gujarat where he worked with conviction. So Modi changed the destiny from Finance to Home and if we evaluate that deciwas the right one. Now, I think, apart from Sardar Patel, among the other Home Ministers, he has been the most powerful Home Minister in the nation since Independence. So it was Modi’s judgement to hand him the Home Ministry and it proved to be right.

CEO & Editor-in-Chief of First India & Bharat24, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra gives a detailed analysis on Kashmir and how the atmosphere in the state changed post abrogation of Article 370, how Amit Shah, a leader who works over 20 hours a day has carved a niche for himself, how the grand vision and foresightedness of PM Narendra Modi brought about the change in Kashmir. Excerpts… (Part II)

 Do you think he has a different type of effect as Home Minister? Definitely. It is my clear stand that Home Minister should have a fearful effect and elements should fear him or her. Amit Shah is a living example of that. Take for example any incident in the nation, or for that matter even within the quality for any good Home Minister. I appreciate that.

CEO Editor-in-Chief of First India & Bharat24, Dr Jagdeesh Chandra during The New JC Show, gives an in-depth analysis and observation of the current political clime in Kashmir. answers on the prevalent questions stressing that the Valley is all set to face Assembly Polls in March-April next year; BJPNational Conference alliance likely to form government as Gupkar alliance falls flat and will go to Assembly Polls alone, and highlights on how the non-Kashmiris are being settled in the region and how law and order situation has improved under the watchful eyes of PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Excerpts...(Part I)

 What is the political aspect of reservation of assembly seats given to scheduled castes as 7 seats have been added to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly? Political justice and participation to further strengthen democracy in Kashmir. This group was neglected, they were poor and could not get in on schemes. But this time seats have been reserved for them as well as Kashmiri Pandits to bring them in the mainstream and motivate them. It is a good step to strengthen and expand democracy and we welcome it.

 What is the reason for Modi’s popularity? The reason behind ‘Modi Magic’ is his oration, his voice. I was listening to PM Modi’s speech from twenty years ago recently, even today it feels like it was made in today’s times. Him being a great orator is the reason why he is so popular. Whatever you do, his popularity will continue to stay with him due to his grand vision, speeches and oratory skills. He is a hero. It is said that people are crazy for him and can not hear a word against him and I don’t see it changing anytime and that is why people have been saying that not the fight is not for 2024 but for 2029 general elections.

It was done for the first time and it was a visionary and powerful experiment done by the Modi government that terror funding was controlled. It is widely known that money used to be come in from other countries, for good work as well as bad. Here, it used to come so that stone pelting continues and law and order situation remains disturbed. But Modi government did not address it as a law and order issue rather took it is a financial problem and the government’s stand has always been that if one wants to end an enemy, one should end the finances belonging to such enemy, so they first tracked the source of terror funding through ED and NIA and now you can see that stone pelting has reduced to ten percent since when there will be no money involved who will work towards it. NIA and CBI were given several cases and today almost all senior leaders have cases against them. Case is going on against Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba’s relatives. See, it is for the first time since Independence that for a semi-political purpose they have done it. It is basically an economic offence for which action has been taken, but for so long there was fear in the minds of officials as to what will happen in Kashmir, they feared that ED and other agencies may get beat here or perhaps people will go on strike. But none of that sort happened and these agencies performed better and the control over law and order has come due to the work done by these agencies. TO BE CONTINUED...

 How do you analyse role of NSA Ajit Doval? Ajit Doval is Narendra Modi’s discovery. Every leader needs experts in every field and for intelligence and security, Modi found him and Amit Shah endorsed it. What transpired was that Modi-Shah were confident that they will return and since then they forged their strategy to remove Article 370, for that Doval was given responsibility and entire homework was done, intel operatives stayed here for a long time, man to man tacking was done, terrorists were identified and tacked, separatists and protestors were tracked and 370 was removed. Definitely, there was worry in Delhi too as regards the fall out of their step and for this it was sought feasible to send some powerful individual, so Doval was sent to Kashmir by Modi-Shah. He went in the Muslim neighbourhoods, shared food with locals and sipped hot coffee with personnel deployed here and his message was that abrogation was a political issue and this move will not bring any negative aspect to your lives since the Union government is with you and that they will better the lives of common Kashmiri. So to assure the people of that trust, a senior officer of Government of India came here. Some people said that he was given security cover, so that is what happens when a senior official comes, which is a general protocol. But Doval’s coming to Kashmir was a daring step, he didn’t give excuses that there is a risk or anything of that sort. Much like how PM went to Lal Chowk to unfurl the Tricolor, the risk was almost same with Doval in Kashmir, but they went ahead with it.

 Bringing Kashmir out of the influence of Pakistan or to instill the love of nationalism in Kashmiris. Is this a new feeling for him as well, or has it been there all along? Of course, it has been there since the beginning. I will tell you an anecdote. When he was 16 years of age, he went to a RSS program where children were being educated on nationalism. The person educating the children drew a circle on the ground and said that this is Kashmir and then drew a smaller circle within the first one and said this is Pakistan, which meant that Kashmir is there but the influence of Pakistan is more evident in Kashmir. It was then that he decided that he would remove this Pakistan from Kashmir’s boundaries and today that day has come. So since the beginning the education and culture of all senior RSS leaders have been like this. But what separates him is the fact that he is a determined individual and creates miracles in execution, so he achieved what he put his eyes to.

 Since the time of Jan Sangh, RSS has had a basic idea regarding Kashmir which could not be fulfilled for 70 years. Do you think that Modi and Amit Shah are now working to fulfill that dream? Dr Jagdeesh Chandra : Hundred percent. The 70-year-long dream was not getting realised, for that the almighty has sent two men - Narendra Modi and Amit Shah - to turn it into a reality. They achieved in a moment what could not happen for seventy years. Removal of Article 370 is a long-standing dream and as is their dream of Ram Mandir, Uniform Civil Code is going to come into effect in near future. So definitely it can be said that Modi and Shah have come like a boon for RSS who have achieved the impossible.

 Is this the reason that people term Modi and Shah as Yug Purush? Definitely. See, the sentiments of the local Kashmiri population could be different from national sentiment in that they may think that they were pressurised etc, but the national sentiment is different, so it can be said that overall it is a miracle. The Kashmir which had gone out of our hands, where people had stopped coming, and there was fear all around, is now in a better position. But this is not the only decision of theirs, in fact there have been several decisions taken by them to make a difference. But specifically in relation to Kashmir, it is said that they have brought back Kashmir into India, it was there on papers, but practically it is these two who have brought it back.

 How do you evaluate role of agencies deployed in Kashmir in curbing terrorism?
