New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday approved the appointment of Pramod Tiwari as deputy leader of the party in Rajya Sabha. He has taken over the post left vacant by Anand Sharma. The party also approved the appointment of Rajani Patil as the party’s whip in the Upper House. Sources said the appointments were made by the Congress president to fill the vacancies following the retirement of Anand Sharma and the demise of Rajeev Satav.
Bengaluru: An air hostess, who flew down to the city from Dubai to meet her male friend, reportedly jumped to her death on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
According to police, the incident took place on the premises of Renuka Residency in Koramangala locality. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Archana from Himachal Pradesh. She had jumped from the fourth floor of the apartment. Preliminary investigations reveal that she worked for a reputed airline company and had come down from Dubai to meet her friend Adesh, a software professional. Adesh hailed from Kerala and is working in Bengaluru. Police state that both were in a relationship for the past several years.

Guwahati: Assam Police have seized 1.3 kg drugs near border with Mizoram, officials said on Saturday. The seizure was made from a vehicle on Friday, which also led to the arrest of three persons on charges of drugs peddling. The vehicle was reportedly coming from Mizoram.“Yesterday (Friday), we got a tip-off that a car heading from Mizoram was transporting drugs. We deployed a naka to monitor the route and stopped a car. We discovered 100 drug-filled soap containers totaling 1.3 kg during the check,” the police said.
New Delhi: The ED has arrested Vivek Aranha, partner in Rosary Education Group, Pune, under the provisions of PMLA, an official said on Saturday. Aranha was produced before a Sessions Judge Mumbai on Friday which remanded him to ED’s custody till March 20. The ED has alleged that Aranha had obtained multiple loans totalling Rs 46 crore from Cosmos Cooperative Bank, Pune, by submitting fabricated documents of property as mortgage with the bank, and thereafter diverted the same for his extravagant lifestyle causing a loss of Rs 45 crore to the bank.
Kerala’s church body seeks ban on drama
Kochi (PTI): Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC), the apex body of the Catholic Church in the state, has urged the state government to ban the staging of a Malayalam drama alleging that it portrayed Christianity along with its congregations and convents in a bad light.

New Delhi (ANI): After receiving the detailed post-mortem report of Bollywood actor Satish Kaushik, the Delhi Police is examining seven hours of CCTV footage at the farmhouse in Delhi where he celebrated Holi. The detailed post-mortem report of Kaushik confirms that the death was a “natural” one and occurred due to cardiac arrest. According to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was cardiac arrest due to coronary artery blockage which is associated with coronary artery diseases. Death appears to be natural in manner, sources said.
