Process begun for amendments to major criminal laws: Centre
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear plea of Karnataka Lokayukta against grant of anticipatory bail to BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, main accused in the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents contract scam. The plea was initially mentioned for urgent listing before a bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud, who asked the Lokayukta’s counsel to mention the matter before a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kaul.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has sought the state govt’s reply on a PIL seeking a ban on the use of loudspeakers for reciting ‘azaan’ (call to prayer) in mosques.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A J Desai and Justice Biren Vaishnav on Monday allowed Shaktisinh Zala, a Bajrang Dal leader, to join the PIL after the original petitioner Dharmendra Prajapati sought to withdraw it citing threats.
