Nitish Kumar on Saturday once again emphasised the strength of a united opposition and urged the Congress to come together and fight the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming general election.

Speaking at the 11th general convention of CPI-M, CM Nitish Kumar said, “I want you people (Congress) to take a quick decision.

If they take my suggestion and fight together, they (BJP) will go below 100 seats, but if they don’t take my suggestion, you know what will happen.” Bihar CM Kumar further said he is waiting for the Congress party to take a decision on whether to contest the 2024 election together.

Guwahati: Despite the Assam version of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, Congress party will not be able to return to power in the state till 2036, Minister Pijush Hazarika said on Saturday.

He said there will be no vacancy for the CM’s chair for the next 13 years in Assam. “I can not say what will happen after that, but the Congress has no chance up to 2036,” he said.

Hazarika also took a jibe at Congress leaders for recent controversy after the party’s leader in the assembly Debabrata Saikia shot a letter to event was attended by Congress leader Salman Khurshid.

Speaking at the event Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “I came to represent on behalf of Congress. Earlier there was talk of the Gujarat model but now there should be the talk of the Bihar model and I will speak about it at every place in the country.”

Madhya Pradesh govt sets up committee for new liquor policy

Bhopal (PTI): Amid senior BJP leader Uma Bharti’s demand for a “controlled liquor policy”, the Madhya Pradesh govt has set up a cabinet committee to submit recommendations on a new framework for the sector, an official said on Saturday.

A new policy was supposed to be announced on January 31 but got delayed, apparently due to Bharti’s demands, including closure of ‘ahatas’ (area for drinking attached to a liquor shop) and ban on liquor shops in a one-kilometre radius around schools and some other establishments, official sources said.
