Mumbai: Objecting to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai’s (MCGM) proposed plan to develop a mechanical stack parking system in front of Matunga railway station, the residents have written a letter to the local corporator for the same.

According to Satish Nayak, who is leading campaign, car park will have two wings, one with 23 floors and other with

12 floors with a capacity to park 546 vehicles.

The area is heavily congested with many illegal street vendors who sit on the arterial Lakhamsi Napoo Road despite having allotted space at the Lal Baha- dur Shastri market. A letter seeking intervention has been written to Nehal Shah, a local corporator of the BJP.

The citizens of the locality have raised objections to the construction stating that the proposed car park will obstruct the movement of ambulances in the event of a railway accident.

The Bombay High Court had mandated that ambulance service be provided at all railway stations following a PIL.

Kharkopar suburban corridor, Central Railway (CR) officials said.

There was no report of injury to any passenger, CR's chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar told PTI.

He said three coaches from motorman’s end derailed at around 8.45 am when train was about to reach Kharkopar station, located about 30km from city, on BelapurKharpokar line in Navi Mumbai.
