Railways working to become ‘green’

Mumbai: Indian Railways is now working on a war footing level to be the largest green railways in the world and is moving in the direction of becoming ‘net zero carbon emitter’ by 2030, said the Central Railway on Friday.

Sexual assault case against teen quashed

Mumbai (PTI): The Bombay High Court has quashed a case of sexual assault registered against a 19-yearold man considering his age and after the minor victim's mother consented to the same.

The association’s counsel Milind Sathe suggested that night shelters be made available for such persons.

A division bench of Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice SG Dige in its February 22 order observed that the accused was a student who was on friendly terms with the victim. The duo had stayed together without inform- ing the girl’s parents. This had prompted the girl’s mother to lodge a complaint against the alleged accused, the bench said. The youngster had approached the court seeking that the case against him be quashed. The victim’s mother informed the high court that she has given her consent for the FIR to be quashed, and taking note of this, the court quashed the case.

Mumbai: After recent reports of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) discreetly shifting a station on Metro 2B corridor to a new location, city BJP President Ashish Shelar met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Metropolitan Commissioner SVR Srinivas. Shelar demanded that National College station be re-shifted to the previous location. Shinde has directed the MMRDA chief to take appropriate action in this regard, as reported by Mid-day.

As per the earlier plan for the Metro 2B corridor, there will be two stations in Bandra West—Bandra, which was to come up near the Lucky restaurant signal and National College, which was planned near Jivan Kiran Bungalow opposite Western Railway Employees Colony. According to residents, the latter had been shifted opposite Tata Blocks Parsi Colony, starting from Grace Galaxy hotel and extending up to the Maruti Auto Vista showroom on SV Road in Bandra.

BEST bringing back 400 CNG buses on city streets soon

First India Bureau Mumbai: 400 CNG buses are going to be added back in the fleet in the city by the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport undertaking (BEST). The buses took off the streets after three fire incidents in one single month of 2023.

According to Lokesh Chandra, BEST General Manager, the officials have already put 100 buses into service after the responsible agency carried out all the repair work and necessary checks. In the next couple of days, the remaining buses will also be put back into the fleet, he added.

The BEST, in a statement earlier, had said that a team of TATA Motors engineering arrived from Lucknow and is in the process of re-examining all the buses for compliance of safety standards and safety norms,” it said.
