Jailed in Elgar Parishad case, Hany Babu to get hon-doctorate

Nagpur: Former Delhi University associate professor Dr. Hany Babu, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case and currently lodged in Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai, is set to get an honorary doctorate degree from a university in Belgium, his wife has said.
In a release issued on Thursday, Hany’s wife Jenny Rowena said he will be awarded the honorary doctorate from the faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Ghent University, Belgium on Friday. In July 2020,
Hany Babu was arrested in connection with the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, becoming the 12th person to be arrested in the case. The case pertains to the Elgar Parishad conference that was held in Pune on December 31, 2017. According to Pune police, the speeches made during the conference incited caste-based violence at the Bhima Koregaon war memorial located near Pune city, which took place the following day. 20% more buses to run on weekends, holidays from Apr

Mumbai: For convenience of commuters, the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has decided to design a new pattern for the operations of its buses on Sundays and holidays.
The civic transport body would be following the new pattern from April, stating that at present only 60% of buses operate on Sundays, however, now BEST will try and run over 80% of buses on weekends and holidays in Mumbai.
As per reports, at present, over 3,600 buses are being daily operated by BEST in the city which is used by more than 35 lakh passengers during weekdays. Meanwhile, currently, around 25,000 taxis are running on the road, out of this nearly 40% stay off the road on Sunday.
Lokesh Chandra, the general manager of BEST, has announced that they will be redesigning their bus operation schedule for Sundays and holidays due to the fact that 40% of taxis and rickshaws do not operate on those days, causing issues with last-mile connectivity for private sector workers.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) served a notice to Uddhav Thackeray MLA Rajan Salvi’s family, summoning them for questioning on Friday.
According to the officials, the inquiry will be held in the disproportionate assets case. The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sent notices to the son, brother, sister-in-law and wife of Uddhav faction MLA Rajan Salvi, asking them to appear for questioning today in the alleged disproportionate assets case.
ACB has already interrogated Rajan Salvi in the excess property case and now sent a notice to the family to appear for questioning.
MLA Rajan Salvi said, “Efforts are being made to put pressure on me, due to which my family is being targeted, no matter what they do, I am not afraid.”
“ACB has questioned me four times in this matter, will interrogate my family today and tomorrow. Whatever happens, I will always stand with Uddhav Thackeray ji, I am not afraid”, the MLA said.
Salvi added,
“when I got the first notice, the same day I contacted Uddhav Thackeray, he said to keep fighting, I am with you.” Earlier, ACB sent notices to the wife, brother and sister-in-law of MLA Rajan Salvi, asking them to appear for questioning on March 20 in the alleged disproportionate assets case.
“Since this notice, my mother, who is a very aged person, is seen worried every now and then. The pressure mechanism has started to work”, Rajan Salvi said. Salvi alleged that as soon as he leaves the Uddhav Thackeray faction and joins the BJP or Shinde faction, all these charges will get whitewashed off him.
School Bus Association to increase bus fares by 15-20%
First India Bureau Mumbai: After increasing the fare by 30% last year, the School Bus Association has decided to increase the fare of school buses in Mumbai by 15 to 20% again this year. Accordingly, the fee will be increased from April 01.
The association raised the school bus fare by 30% last year as the rent was not increased during the pandemic. This year, they have decided to increase the fee by another 20%.
