Love, Grow, Go—Together! It’s our mission statement but more importantly my wish for all of First Pres in 2010. The concept was embraced as our discipleship model by the Session in 2009. (The Session is made up of Elders, elected members of the congregation and pastors. Together this body determines the goals of our church community and watches over the finances and other church/business decisions.) You should know that Love, Go, Grow—Together is not a linear progression or a journey with check boxes, it’s who we strive to be both individually and in community as Christians in this life in covenant together. In this year’s Annual Report, you will find a snapshot of the different First Pres ministries. We cover an overview of 2009 and a look ahead to some goals for 2010. You will see lists of staff teams that coach, mentor and lead, and members of our laity that work in partnership with staff to make it all happen. There are many, many more dear saints at First Pres that are actively involved in so many areas of ministry both inside and outside First Pres. This report is intended as a guide—a peek into the things that are possible when we serve our God together. Below is the statement of financial position for 2009 and two pie charts representing the percentages and dollars allocated to our major ministry areas for 2009 and 2010. On pages 6 and 7 we note membership statistics as well as names of our Elders and Deacons. As always, we include a list of those in our church family who departed this world in 2009 and have gone to be with the Lord. They are now part of that “cloud of witnesses” that urges us onward. We also remember this list because for each member of our First Pres family who died this year, there is a family that continues to grieve their loss. May we continue to mourn with those who mourn. I celebrate and am thankful for your faithfulness, your love and your outpouring of support. As we continue this journey together, let us look toward Him that leads us on the ancient path.

Love, Grow, Go—Together. Our purpose is to LOVE God more and more in a lifestyle of worship in everything we do. Our purpose is to GROW deeper and deeper in maturity in Christ, being transformed along the way into the likeness of Christ through encounters with Him. Our purpose is to GO, in order to give what God has given to a world who will probably come to us less and less in a postmodern age. And all of this is to happen TOGETHER in community. Paul Parsons
Sr. Associate Pastor

We continue our commitment to Mongolia, Cuba, Egypt and India. Locally, we come alongside the Community Partnership for Child Development/ Head Start to host homeless families with preschoolers twice a month. We continue our strong support of Habitat for Humanity in the building of our seventh house. Our commitment to Compassion International extends as we participate in a pilot project and partner with one congregation in India. page 3

Guest Central was created as a place for visitors to establish their first relationships with First Pres. Our Hospitality group also established a meeting place in the Fellowship Plaza to help visitors navigate the building on Sundays. Lay participation increased to include families with young children and singles as well as 13 lay-hosted neighborhood gatherings around our city. Our Student and Children’s Ministries established their own hospitality programs in partnership with this ministry area.

Ministry to children has occurred in several different places in our community and this year we bring it all under one leadership team of Danny Shaw and Joy Thomas. Danny previously managed our camps and recreational ministries for children. Joy led our Children’s Music program. In partnership with our dedicated lay leadership in this area, we will continue to merge our previously three distinct areas into one holistic Children’s Ministry.
