Congratulations, Brynne! MEN'S MINISTRY
Barrett Awai “Believer vs. Follower" Tuesday, April 24, 6 pm, First Prez The Men’s Ministry is honored to welcome Barrett Awai as our speaker. (You may remember Barrett and his wife Tara sharing their spirits and gifts of music with us during worship on July 10, 2011.) Barrett will share his testimony on how sin kept him from going to the NFL and then led him to the brink of a divorce only five years into his marriage. He will share his larger victory in following Jesus and encourage the men to live out their God-given destiny.
Hawaii. Over 400 student athletes and 20 coaches are being reached weekly by this ministry across the state of Hawaii. This demands many speaking engagements around the state to minister to athletes and coaches. “I always like to take my ukulele and sing a song or two it helps me get focused and gives me peace." He laughs, “I hope it gives them peace too." For more info on FCA Hawaii visit www.fcahawaii. org.
Barrett is a 1988 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, where he lettered three years in Football and Baseball and two years in Basketball. He earned an AA in Liberal Arts from Arizona Western College in 1990 and played football for two years for the Matadors. He was invited to walk on for the BYU Cougars and later earned a full scholarship and lettered two years on the WAC championship teams.
Barrett has been playing music for over 15 years and is a part of the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano award winning group “Kaukahi”. His solo debut release “Kalana” in 2009 was awarded the Hoku award for Religious Album of the Year 2010! Tara played a integral role in “Kalana”. Their music comes from the heart and touches the heart! As Barrett states, “Music is a message. We strive to share a message of forgiveness and the power of true love!”
Barrett’s first full time ministry work started at Kawaiaha“o Church in Honolulu. He directed the youth and young adult ministry for two years. Then in January 2007, he was hired to direct the expansion of FCA across the state of Hawaii. He and Tara are raising five children.
We also had a letter writing night last night (Tuesday, March 27) featuring guest speaker Ron Mathieu (Compassion Board Member). Thirtytwo people attended, many first time sponsors. The church now sponsors over 1,000 kids worldwide! We thank God for you– you make a huge difference in the lives of your sponsored children.
We hope that you make plans to join us for an elevating evening. Reserve your spot by signing up at the Men’s table starting on April 15 and 22!
Barrett is currently the Director of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

Come With Us to God's Universe. Wednesday, April 25, 10:30 am, Hokulani Imaginarium Every star has a story. Some are as old as time, faint and almost forgotten. Others burn bright and end their lives in powerful explosions. New stars are created every day, born of vast clouds of gas and dust. Through every phase of their existence, stars release the energy that powers the universe. Come and journey with us to the farthest reaches of our galaxy and experience both the awesome beauty and destructive power of STARS! How will we do this? The visit is not as far as it sounds. It will take us across the highway from First Presbyterian Church to the HOKULANI IMAGINARIUM at Windward Community College. HOKULANI is Hawaiian for Starry Heavens. The IMAGINARIUM is a hightech planetarium and multi-media facility for the family. The program, STARS, is a stunning animation highlighted by astronauts, spacecraft, telescopes, nebulas, clusters, and more, and was created by the talented team of the National Space Centre (Leicester, UK). This dramatic program features the voice talent of Mark Hamill and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Albert-George Schram. We will also be given an overview of the constellations and planets visible in the sky and

some of the interesting features of the planetarium. The Imaginarium was recently upgraded to a Definiti 4K full-dome system from Sky-Skan, which allows audiences to experience immersive adventures in a true 360-degree environment. Viewers will feel like they are part of the unfolding scene, whether it is falling through a black hole, flying through Saturn’s rings, or witnessing the beginnings of the Universe. This is a family affair and all are welcome. It gets a little chilly in the planetarium, so remember to bring a light sweater or jacket. This all happens on Wednesday, April 25th. The show PROMPTLY begins at 10:30 and we must enter as a group; NO LATECOMERS! So come early and browse. The cost per person is $5 and our experience will be about an hour. After which, we will dine (at your own cost) at Gyu-Kaku Restaurant in Windward Mall. For carpoolers, meet and park at the church parking lot at 9:45 am. Sign up will be on Sundays, April 15 and 22, at the RAA! Table in Fellowship Hall. Bring your children and grandchildren as everyone is invited to join in our discovery of science while having some fun, too.

April means spring has sprung. There is a shift in the sun's light as it falls on the earth. And there is a corresponding shift in my heart and an urge to begin anew. Our fasting shall soon be over. Many of you have chosen to fast from food items or to do an action of mercy every day. Some have opted to participate in the Daniel fast again. However you chose to grow closer to the Lord this Lenten season we will soon be rejoicing in the Hallelujahs of Easter. Easter comes early this year. Are you ready? I am ready to celebrate the Risen Lord every day. I am ready to live in the love of the Lord right NOW! The choir will sing and the music with our orchestra will be glorious. Let us remember that this love is ours for every moment of the year. He is Risen, He is Risen indeed! Mindy Chow has been victorious again this year by winning her third state title in a row. Mindy is carrying on the family tradition of great athletes. Yeah, Mindy! The recent comedy night at church was a roaring LOL success! Three hundred + came and more tables and chairs were needed. Robert Mac was a hoot and a holler. Woo Hoo. What great fun it is for family to eat, laugh, and play together! I spy with my little eye...a person whose name begins with an S. It’s Shirley Cavanaugh! In all the newspapers statewide and the MidWeek Shirley Cavanaugh has a picture perfect side view in the Central Pacific Bank ads. She said she even got to meet Alex that cute little Sheltie. Good job, Shirley. Well gang the HIM conference is a wonderful memory now. It’s time to put into practice all you learned from the Holy Spirit for the coming year. 988-9777 to find out how you can get in on this exciting and life changing experience throughout the year! Janis Loo was named “Mother of the Year” for Hawaii by the Hawaii Chapter of the American Mothers, Inc. She was recognized at a banquet on March 30th. In early May, Janis flies off to the American Mothers, Inc. National Convention in Washington DC where she is automatically one of the nominees for the national title. Congratulations! Wow, Janis! Will you be teaching a class on Motherhood’s do’s and don’ts in the next WAKO? And now for some rather spectacular milestones. Alice Yoder and Dan Wong both celebrated their 90th birthdays last March. Both are still going strong. In fact Alice just got back from Kenya (yes the one in Africa) from a mission trip. From birthdays to anniversaries, Joe and Barbara Grimes have spent the last 60 years of their lives in wedded bliss. They are one in the Lord and one in mind when it comes to translating the Bible into other languages. Right now they are working on the Old Testament in Hawaii Pidgin having already finished “Da Jesus Book” which is the New Testament in Hawaii Pidgin. Congratulations to all. The steadfast love of the Lord never faileth. His mercies never come to an end. And now my friends I pray for you peace in the Lord, days filled with The Lord’s mercies and all the Good Things HE can give you. Just make sure you tell me about them so we can share in the wonders of our GOD together! Aloha no manoaw@hawaiiantel.net
