Being born into extreme poverty in a country that lacks even basic resources for its people doesn’t mean that young people can’t fulfill their dreams of being lawyers, doctors, government officials or leaders in their communities. He's made headlines over and over again ever since being elected President and CEO of the Castle Foundation—his latest title until retiring from that position just weeks ago. While formerly heading up several Honolulu business and civic oranizations, Mitch is also a past chair of the FPC Men's Leadership Team. Mitch and Bambi have three sons and three granddaughters. Please join us on Tuesday, April 29, 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Sign up on Sundays at the Men's table ($10 in advance or $15 at the door).
Men's Retreat This special event was held on March 7 & 8 at First Prez. All who attended were encouraged and challenged by Steve Peich's thought-provoking messages. There were also great times of worship, fellowship, and prayer. Please make plans to join us at next year's retreat!

OUT & ABOUT (FORMERLY RAA!)
Out & About Goes to the Capitol
April 30, Wed, 10:15 am, meet in front of Father Damien statue Our State Capitol Building: a familiar building—but is it really familiar? How often do you drive down South Beretania Street and look to your left as you pass Punchbowl Street? Our beautiful State Capitol Building becomes just part of the scene and no attention is paid to its beauty. How many floors and offices are in the building? What takes place there? There’s one way to find out! Come join Out & About for a tour of the Hawaii State Capitol. A tour coordinator from the Governor’s office will be taking us through this magnificent building, filled with symbolic architectural design features that reflect the history and culture of our unique state. There are many works of art in different forms and our tour coordinator will be our “tour guide” through the many offices, including the office of the Governor, explaining the significance of these artifacts. As the Legislature will still be in session, our tour will end in the Chambers of the House and the Senate so we can get a first-hand look/listen of what and

how our elected officials are working on. And, depending on their schedules, we will have a chance to “talk story” with either a Senator or a Representative. We will meet in front of Father Damien’s statue at 10:15 am on Wednesday, April 30. The tour will begin at 10:30 am and will last approximately an hour. Parking is available under the Capitol Building and must be entered from Punchbowl Street, across the Queen’s Medical Center. Bring lots of quarters to feed the meters (15 minutes for a quarter) and be mindful of the signage—parking in a reserved stall is subject to towing. After the tour, we will have a Chinese lunch at the Mandalay Restaurant on Alakea Street. Sign up at the Out & About Ministry Table on Sundays, April 20 and 27. Cost for lunch is $21 and is payable in cash or check only. All are invited for an experience not many Kama’aina get to have because of time or availability.

Youth News by Pastor Drew Hulse
Youth New Member Class
This year’s crop of High School new members have been taking great steps in growing in their faith through their current weeks of study. We have been working for seven weeks on the foundations of the faith, including such things as the doctrine of God, doctrine of the Holy Spirit, understanding the history of the PC(USA) and doing lots of verse memorization. The potential new members meet with the Session this month. Pray for this group as they continue to grow in their faith and what it means to be a member of First Prez.

PRAYERLINES
A Morning Prayer, Part 2 by Patti Marshall
Last month, the powerful lyrics of two songs urged us, first, to begin our day with praise and adoration and second, to invite Jesus into our daily thoughts, words, and deeds. In addition to singing those two songs in the morning, open your Bible to the Psalms. This book is filled with beautiful melodies of God’s inspired and timeless truth. “Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name” Ps. 86:11. May Your truth rise up and Your perspective over shadow my anxiety. Equip me to handle what is ahead with Your gentleness, boldness, quiet strength and loving grace, O Lord. “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it” Ps. 86:10. Give me what to say in happy or aggravating moments and when I feel confident or insecure. Remind me when to say nothing at all, Guarder of my heart. “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty!” Ps. 84:1 Dwell in me richly, shifting a wrong attitude, guarding my words, and whispering everlasting truth. Radiate about Me God. “Great is Your love toward me” Ps. 86:13. Lord, I will tuck your whispers of absolute love into the deepest part of my heart. You don’t care about position or performance. You care about me. Dear Lord: Did those two songs “In The Morning” and “Give me Jesus” come from the Psalms? Thank you for wanting Continued on page 7

People All the Good Things
What's the buzz with First Prez people by Marcia Wright We have come to another April in our lives. The newness of the year is gone from our minds, and we are back in the mundane of our daily lives. But April brings freshness to the year. The cycle of life that the LORD has so delightfully planned for our earth and the start of spring with warmer scents of blossoms on the breeze bring joy. For even in Hawaii we have our seasons. We have also come full circle in the liturgical year and are walking prayerfully through the Lenten season with our thoughts on the preparation Jesus was going through as he headed towards Jerusalem. Take time to meditate on HIS journey this season. The American Mothers Hawaii Chapter has awarded Aurora Fruehling the Amanda DuPont Service Award and Julie Sparks the Hawaii Mother of the Year Award. “The Amanda DuPont Service Award was established by American Mothers Hawaii Chapter to honor the legacy of a great woman, Amanda DuPont, who, along with her husband, Holbrook DuPont, have extended their heart and hands to literally thousands of people in the world. From Hawaii to Spain, Colombia, Kansas and many other places, Amanda has sacrificed and given and worked hard to bring comfort, cheer and help to others. The Amanda DuPont Service Award is given to a woman who is an example of motherhood who has strengthened the moral and spiritual foundation of her home and family, and who has given outstanding service to her family and the community of Hawaii.” KHON2 News web staff writes that… “Julie Sparks, a mother of three, realtor and third-year student at the William S. Richardson School of Law at University of Hawaii at Manoa, has been named 2014

Julie Sparks and her family
Hawaii Mother of the Year. “…Sparks juggles a full-time job as a realtor, plus a fulltime load of law school courses and spends one day a week on a law school externship with Sen. Sam Slom’s Minority Research Office at the state legislature. Sparks and her family also sponsor five children through Compassion International. Her teenage daughter met two of them last summer during a mission trip with their church to the Philippines. Additionally, Sparks has done pro bono work at Family Court for a program that deals with child welfare. The Hawaii Mother of the Year competition is sponsored by American Mothers Inc., Hawaii Association.”…during the application interview…“One of the things Sparks told her interviewer was simple: “I think my generation was sold a bill of goods, that you’re not very valuable if you’re just raising kids,” she said. “But the most important job you can do is to make sure you’re raising good people, because it affects everyone for the future.” A number of friends from church and the FPC choir were in the audience to support Aurora and Julie. Well, that’s it, folks. If you want more news, you are going to have to clue me in. Please make sure you send me an email or give me a written note so I can remember. I could really use a few more cub reporters on the church beat! Every day we have a choice as to whom or what we will serve: the idols in our lives or the Living LORD? In this season of prayerful reflection and introspection I pray for you a fresh sense of our need for a Savior and gratefulness to God the Father for HIS great gift. “As for me and my house we will serve the LORD!” manoaw@ hawaiiantel.net

WE'VE GOT OUR OWN APP! On your iPhone, iPad, Android, Galaxy or Windows phone, go to your app store and do a search for "First Prez App" right now. Yes, now.
Features of Our App
• Sermon video, audio, and notes • Event calendar • Maps • Online giving • Information about the church
Right now the First Prez App has the last three sermon message series: Christmas Presence, God's Questions For Us, and Book of Acts. Can you believe it—the full-length sermon audio and video, and sermon transcripts are now easily accessible from your mobile device! You can also easily share sermons through Facebook, Twitter, and email.
Why Did We Build It?
Every day First Prez is creating incredible Christ-centered content that needs to be shared with the world. The big question is, "How do we get this life-changing content into people’s hands?" There are 1,000,000 smart phones sold daily. Fifty percent of data
is now consumed on mobile devices, and that percentage is ever growing. Roughly two-thirds of Americans have an app device. And mobile users spend an average of 80 minutes in apps every day. And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is why we created the First Prez App—to equip YOU with mobile technology to share Christ-centered messages, information and events, and to make the truth of Jesus incredibly accessible. In addition to making solid biblical teaching accessible to the world, we also wanted our First Prez App to keep people connected with calendar events and social networks, to be integrated with our online giving, and in the future to be able to do much, much more.
Get the First Prez App and Share It
Check it out right now at http://get. theapp.co/28f2. Or just do a search for "First Prez App" in your app store, download, install, and open it. Subscribe to our notifications. We hope you like what you find. Help us spread the Word!
