Kayden jumped out of bed and ran to the calendar. It was March 11, his birthday. Today he was 2 years old in 2017 and couldn’t wait for his birthday party this afternoon.
Kayden hurried to the kitchen. He knew when he ďŹ nished eating mom would start decorating the table.
Mom put a birthday party tablecloth on the table and placed plates, cups, and forks on it. Then she placed Kayden’s birthday cake in the middle of the table.
The ďŹ rst guests to arrive were Jackson and Hensley.
“When will the surprise come?” asked Kayden. “You’ll soon find out,” said Mom.
“It’s time for Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Donkey,” announced Kayden.
Jackson pinned the tail on the donkey’s nose. Hensley pinned the tail on the donkey’s foot.
“Piñata time,” said Kayden.
Then the doorbell rang. Dad answered the door. “Kayden, it’s for you,” he called.
Standing at the door was Kayden's surprise guest -- a wizard wearing a robe and a pointed hat, and carrying a crystal ball.
“Is this the address, in Titusville, where Kayden lives?” asked the wizard.
Kayden was so surprised he could only nod his head. “I’m here to tell your future,” said the wizard. “Won’t you please let me step inside?”
“Let me gaze into my crystal ball before you open your gifts, sing, and eat cake and ice cream.�
All the guests grinned and wondered what would happen next. The wizard was certainly Kayden’s birthday surprise.
“Today, on March 11, 2017, you are 2 years old,” said the wizard. “I see that in the year 2028 you will be 13 and a teenager. My crystal ball shows you are a fantastic...
And in the year 2031, you will be 16 and old enough to drive a car. It looks like a red convertible,” said the wizard. Kayden laughed. “A convertible would be so much fun,” he said.
The wizard continued. “When I look farther into the future I see that in 2033 you will be 18 and able to vote in the next election for the President of the United States.
And for a really big number, in 2065 you’ll be 50 years old. Wow! Your cake sure has a lot of candles!”
The wizard took off his hat and bowed. Everyone clapped. Then POOF! In a cloud of smoke the wizard disappeared and left a gift on the table.
Kayden picked it up, opened it and pulled out his own wizard’s hat. He put it on his head. It was a perfect fit!
