DSDN 141: EXPERIMENTING WITH MATERIALS

PROJECT THREE PART B: TEN TO EIGHT MATERIAL AND SENSORY DOCUMENTATION Due Date: Presentation Wednesday 13th October 2010 ‐ 15% of Total Course

INTRODUCTION TO THE SENSORY EXPERIENCE Essential to design enquiry and creative advancement is the capability to defend your design solution through a variety of media. Project 3 B aims to present the physical, active and poetic evidence of project 3 A.

DESIGN CHALLENGE Produce an innovative and visually emotive screen based documentation of your composition from Project Three A.

METHOD Use photography, either video or still images in conjunction with the computer to compose a ten to eight second long video that communicates the material activation in your composition. You may add sound and graphics but these must be of your own making.

PROCEDURE & SCHEDULE 1) 2)

You may refine but not significantly change your composition. Explore the qualities of your composition as an interactive and active object; these may be sound, light, movement or something else. 3) Start by recording these qualities with still image/ video and or sound equipment, then mix and compose or alter these to gain an advanced level of ‘composition’. 4) You are only to document your own work; this may be done with the assistant of your partner and/or others projects.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS The minimum submission requirements for Project Three B are: An 8‐10 second recording in MPEG Format (Must play in Windows media or VLC player) Hand into R Drive Folder DSDN 141 before 11:30pm Tuesday 12th October. Warning this folder will lock so don’t leave it till the last minute. No memory sticks etc accepted/please test your video before you copy it into the R Drive. Presentation LT1. Start times session A 9:00am and session B 1:45pm Important: No added Music or Credits!

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The paper is internally assessed by assignment work in the form of four projects. Assignments are assessed and graded A+, A, A‐, B+, B, B‐, C+, C, D, E, (where C is a PASS). The five projects all contribute towards the final paper grade. Project Three B: Due Wednesday 13th October 15% In addition to the following criteria selected from the overall Paper Outline DSDN 141 you will also be assessed in this project on the following: Evidence of innovation, originality and craft in documenting a material performance.
