PROJECT 1: AN EXPLORATON OF STRUCTURE DSDN142 CREATIVE CODING COORDINATOR: BEN JACK
TASK In this project you are to examine the nature of visual structure. How can structure be formed, manipulated and broken using code? A depth of experimentation is expected, using iterations of an application(s) to explore the edges of structure and its formation. The project is broken into two sections, an exercise in algorithmic thinking (thinking in a series of instructions) which is worth 10% of the overall course grade and the final submission, which is worth 20%.
HAND-IN REQUIREMENTS: For presentations, please always bring files on usb as well & printouts! Part A: Algorithm exercise: 1. One A3 handmade creation and an accompanying written algorithm that describes the process used to create it. 2. Blog showing your development.
Part B: An exploration of structure: 1. Code: Eight final zip files consisting of variations of the exported applet (html, gif, jar, java. pde as well as other relevant files necessary to run your code - if there are any). Please upload them onto your openprocessing account and onto our classroom at openprocessing.org, heading “Term 2, 2011, project 1: an exploration of structure and link them to your dsdn142 blogger blog. Please state clearly that those are final files. 2. Images: eight .pdf images ready for printing. Please upload them onto your dsdn142 blogger blog. 3. Print-outs: eight small print-outs, each 10 x 20 cm. Mounted appropriately on card. 4. Online workbook: your dsdn142 blogger blog and your openprocessing sketches.
DATES Hand drawn exercise: July 18th (10% of course grade) (beginning of tutorial) th Final presentation: August 4 (20% of course grade) (beginning of tutorial)
