I had very good mentoring from many chartered planners and I was involved in a variety of work which helped me gain an insight of planning outside an academic setting. It has been a great experience working with a friendly and hard-working team on large-scale projects.
I felt connected throughout the company, especially due to the APC training days as I met more colleagues from all around and experienced invaluable lessons for my future career. All of this helped me to gain a holistic understanding of the industry, not just under the sector I was working in. The team I was working under were very keen in involving me with as much as possible. As a result of this, I was guided in leading my own projects and got to liaise with a variety of clients. All of this was great, along with the social side of things where we got to play sporting events together and meet outside the workplace. Overall, I loved my experience with Fisher German and got to connect with an amazing team”

“This internship scheme was introduced by one of my lecturers at Oxford Brookes University. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a warm welcome from everyone. I worked in the Birmingham office, under the sustainability sector, where we consulted clients in ways to reduce carbon emissions and improve their EPC rating. I got hands-on client exposure and met an amazing team.
Above all, what I really appreciated was that I was never treated like a placement student but as a member of the team, getting the opportunity to work independently and then receiving feedback from the experienced planners. I am extremely happy I did the placement. It has been very useful and it helped me greatly to get a distinction for my dissertation!”

“I spent 9 weeks with Fisher German, after my second year at the Royal Agricultural University. I worked within the Rural Team, involved with Traditional Estate Management. I was fortunate that this was my second placement with Fisher German after having spent the summer before with the Agency department. The welcoming and inclusive nature of the whole company has really allowed me to totally immerse myself into working life. During my time in the Rural Team, I feel that my skills and knowledge have further developed. Every day was different, and I really enjoyed the variety of tasks within this role. I was both in the office and out on the estates where I got involved in a range of jobs, from drafting up agreements, to meeting contractors on site. This really contributed to deepening my understanding of the surveying industry and the diversity of what you deal with on a day-to-day basis.
