Spotting Eagles in Winter

The Sullivan Catskills is the second largest nesting ground in the United States for American Bald Eagles. Sightings of these beautiful creatures are most prominent along the Bashakill or National Park’s Upper Wild and Scenic Delaware Rivers. They live near water, so they can readily access fish-their primary source of food. They are easier to spot than you may think! Their white feathered heads and prominent wing span are what set these majestic animals apart from other birds. Use binoculars or a spotting scope for a closer look. For more information about eagles in the Sullivan Catskills, call the Delaware Highlands Conservancy at 845-583-1010 or the National Park Service, Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, at 570-729-7134. Online visit DelawareHighlands.org/ Eagles or FindYourPark.com.

In a fabled history of hospitality Three New Resorts Join our Sullivan Catskills Landscape

America’s first great vacationland does it again. Amidst our beauty and vastness come three new destination escapes. Each resort comes with a history of its own, and each is designed to offer visitors more of what they’re looking for. Come relax, recharge, and unwind.

Honoring the Past, Welcoming the Future

— The Eldred Preserve

Opening this spring, The Eldred Preserve is a wholly unique hospitality experience that weaves together the very best of three Sullivan County legacies: The Eldred Preserve, The Bradstan Country Hotel, and The Old Homestead Restaurant. This “jewel in the woods” resort includes an event space, 28 luxury accommodations, and a farm-to-table steakhouse that marry contemporary design and a rural, wooded location. Expansive, 26-foot-tall glass windows line the face of the restaurant and event space, offering picturesque framed views of the landscape. Luxurious interiors pair the comfort of a bed and breakfast with the sophistication of a boutique hotel. Overnight accommodations include an eight-room inn, three five-room lodges, and five stand-alone cabins. Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows, with many room types featuring fireplaces and walk-out balconies.

Head for the Hills for an Informal Vacation

— Callicoon Hills

The name Callicoon Hills creates a sense of place and location while alluding to this property’s history. “Hills” describe the landscape, and pays homage to the original owners, The Hills family who built the resort as a boardinghouse in the early 1900s.

Spread across five retreat houses, the 63 guest rooms are intimate and welcoming, filled with design details carefully chosen to surprise and inspire. The Café will be open to guests and neighbors alike, serving a light breakfast, and specialty coffee beverages, with locally sourced ingredients. Cocktails and dinner will be served in the Bar and on the attached Sun Porch, with lawn games and Adirondack chairs strewn on the manicured grass below.

Just across Gulf Road, the English Haypress Barn, dating back to 1869, provides a historic backdrop for small gathering, as well as large weddings of up to 200 guests.

Opening May 2021.

Nature Preserved with a Luxurious View

— The Chatwal Lodge

Nestled within 30-acres at the Chapin Estate in Bethel, The Chatwal Lodge opens April 1. A project of Dream Hotel Group founder, Mr. Sant Singh Chatwal, this luxury retreat with 10 suites features panoramic views of the Toronto Reservoir. The natural beauty of the outdoors is incorporated throughout featuring vaulted ceilings, arched windows, reclaimed-wood walls, log-treaded stairs, hand-carved headboards, faux fur and woolen upholstery. Select accommodations include larger lakeside decks, outdoor showers, soaking tubs, kitchens, and dining and living areas. For luxury of a different kind there is a 1,000-square-feet elegant treehouse made from pine and cedar, and a romantic fireplace. And the glam 850 square foot tent features a king bed, ensuite bath, and wraparound verandas.

Guests will enjoy access to hiking trails dotted with chestnut trees and hidden water streams. Activities range from fly fishing in the property’s trout stream, kayaking with a to-go picnic, private music classes, and priority access to exhibitions at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.

We’re always ready with your table.

When we say “local,” we mean it. Beaverkill and Willowemoc trout. Game from our land. Meat, eggs, and dairy from our farms. Produce from our fields. Craft brews, spirits and wines from producers you should visit. Savor an elegant continental meal in a stunning dining room, pack a picnic to spread on a blanket next to a babbling brook, dig into an American classic breakfast or lunch in a booth on the Sullivan Catskills Diner Trail. You’ll find the advice at our Farmers’ Markets just as superb as the recommendations of your maître d’. From celebrity chefs just off the casino floor to a bakery on the main street of a small, downtown— it’s everything from venison sausage to lemon bars–dinner’s served.
