SHARING PROGRESS Mental Health Task Force Wraps Up 2016 Action Items
This time last year, the City’s Mental Health Task Force released its Report to the Community including recommendations and measurable goals for 2016. The Task Force identified seven recommendations surrounding education and training and two recommendations for resources and access. During a mental health summit last month, the Task Force’s work groups shared their progress towards those goals. Phase II of the mental health initiative will include a data-driven effort to prevent mental health crises. The Task Force will continue to support existing and new objectives, under the direction of Suzanne Clifford, Senior Vice President of Integrated Primary Care Services at Community Health Network. The initiative has gained national recognition. Just last month, Mayor Fadness and FFD's Chief Orusa were invited to share the story of the Mental Health Task Force and its progress at the City of New York’s Cities Thrive mental health conference. A group of local clergy members also gathered monthly throughout the year to better understand the mental health challenges faced by those they serve. Together, the group agreed to focus their efforts on teenage suicide prevention. The group completed a “Teen Suicide 101” training presented by Mental Health America. The clergy members were also given an opportunity to provide Chaucie’s Place’s evidence-based youth suicide prevention program to their staff members.

LOCAL ARTISTS TRANSFORM SIGNAL BOXES Three local artists were selected by Fishers Arts Council and the City to paint six signal boxes in the Nickel Plate District. The original designs of William Denton Ray, Marc Anderson and Jacque Hammonds have livened up the utility boxes along 116th Street and Commercial Drive. FISHERS MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE RECOGNIZED AT NYC CONFERENCE Last month, Mayor Scott Fadness and Chief Orusa were invited to share the story of Fishers’ mental health initiative and the Task Force’s progress at the City of New York’s “Cities Thrive” mental health conference. The Task Force is currently working toward completion of its first set of objectives. Learn more on page 10.
HARLEY-DAVIDSON PLANS MOVE TO FISHERS Last month, Harley-Davidson announced plans to sell its Carmel property and build a new dealership along State Road 37 in the Reynolds Industrial Park. Construction on the new location is expected to begin in March. The company also purchased two commercial lots that will be available for development.
SNOW CLEARING Fishers DPW consistently exceeds national service averages for snow clearing. The department’s prioritization for road clearing is primary roads, including 116th Street, 96th Street and Allisonville Road, followed by secondary roads such as Hoosier Road, Hague Road, Lantern Road, 121st Street and Brooks School Road followed by subdivision streets and cul-desacs.
