Della Leva Espresso Bar opened in December 2017 near the intersection of 106th Street and Crosspoint Boulevard. Local entrepreneur, Bridget Edgeworth always dreamed of opening a coffee shop with her dad until she discovered the ideal location to make her dream a reality. “I couldn’t pass up the chance to be in this area and to be a part of the up and coming Fishers community,” Edgeworth said. “When we found this building, it felt like it was a sign that it was time to put this shop together and create something with my dad.” Named after her Grandmother, Della Leva, the shop brought Edgeworth back to the Fishers area. A Ball State University graduate, Edgeworth graduated and spent time in Chicago, waiting for the right time to move closer to home. The menu includes fresh baked pastries and breakfast sandwiches, along with coffees and cappuccinos. When researching local coffee shops, Edgeworth quickly noticed one menu item missing – delicious teas. In an effort to distinguish herself among competitors, Edgeworth created a menu that features a variety

LET’S GIVE THEM A HAND, FOLKS CITY WILL RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS DURING CITY OF SERVICE AWARDS, FEBRUARY 15TH Named the 2017 Money Magazine Best Place to Live, there are many things that make Fishers a smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial City to live, work, and play. However, what makes Fishers unique is that even as a community of nearly 88,000, the residents of the community remain engaged and willing to contribute their time to civic engagement. The City of Fishers is celebrating the second annual City of Service Awards Evening on Thursday, February 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Conner Prairie’s Woodland Hall. The event will honor volunteers that have served various City departments over the previous year. The dinner will also recognize the 2017 Hamilton Southeastern Schools District Teacher of the Year, as well as the HSE Schools Foundation Volunteer of the Year, and the Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year. The service of local educators has long been a factor that shapes the Fishers community. The event will be hosted by local journalist and creator of Larry in Fishers, Larry Lannan. Throughout 2017, local businesses, residents of all ages, and representatives from local nonprofit organizations completed nearly 2,000 hours of volunteer work throughout Fishers for City departments. In the state of Indiana, one hour of volunteer work is valued at $23.38 per IndependentSector.org, meaning that in 2017, completed volunteer Mayor Fadness alongside eager volunteers during 2017’s Keep Fishers Beautiful.

During the event, the City will award four volunteers for their commitment to service. Fishers Department of Fire & Emergency Services, Fishers Department of Public Works, Fishers Parks & Recreation, and Fishers Police Department united to brainstorm possible honorees, and, ultimately, selected their award-winner for unique reasons.
FISHERS DEPARTMENT OF FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES When selecting the Fire Corps Volunteer of the Year, Fishers Department of Fire and Emergency Services considered volunteers that went above and beyond to help respond to emergency incidents. The individual being recognized is someone who assisted with rewriting policies and procedures, and who assisted on the development and implementation of the logistic resource list – a tool developed to readily identify vendors and community partners ready to assist firefighters during times of extended emergency operations.
FISHERS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (DPW) While Fishers DPW is out serving the community, year-round, the White River Clean-Up is perhaps the largest volunteer opportunity that residents can participate in. During the 2017 clean-up, volunteer participation was up 50% over the 2016 event, and volunteer tasks included trash collection both in the river and along the banks, planting native plants to create a rain garden, and planting seeds to create a secondary rain garden. Fishers DPW selected their volunteer of the year based on their willingness to dive into the tasks above without pause or complaint. The winner was eager to make a difference and set a good example to others participating in the event.

HOLLAND PARK Located in the heart of Fishers, Roy G. Holland Memorial Park is Fishers’ first municipal park, developed in 1991, is approximately 34 acres and offers a variety of amenities for all age groups. From sports fields and basketball courts, to playgrounds and picnic areas, the central location and proximity to several neighborhoods makes the park a hub for activity year-round. During the winter, Roy G. Holland Memorial Park is home to the popular Fishers Winter Farmers’ Market, which takes place inside the park building every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. With over 20 Indiana-grown vendors, shoppers can stock up on seasonal produce, handmade artisan items, and fresh baked goods. Winter vendors vary, so follow the Fishers Farmers’ Market on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about weekly vendors. In the summer months, children can cool off at the splash pad, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and slide down inflatable water slides at

FALL IN LOVE WITH NATURE AT
Share your love for nature and enjoy ecotherapy at one of the City’s most popular parks during Fishers Parks & Recreation’s annual Heart Hike. The free open house style event takes place on Saturday, February 10th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve (10410 Hague Road). Along with an opportunity to stay active during the winter, the event also offers a chance to learn about the environment. As you explore the trails and hike with your friends and loved ones, learn about the different heart shapes found in nature by finding the many photographs that line the trails. After your hike, warm up by the campfire and satisfy your sweet tooth with complimentary hot chocolate. “The Heart Hike offers so many ways for the community and families to explore nature while spending quality time together. This event allows us to showcase a key initiative within our department and city, which is encouraging residents to unplug and experience nature firsthand,” said Tony Elliot, Director of Fishers Parks & Recreation. “The winter season is the perfect time to unplug from the busyness of our daily lives and to remember that we can fall in love with nature and the vibrant parks in our community, even during the colder months,” explained Elliot. Located in the heart of Fishers, Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve is one of only two state designated nature preserves in Hamilton County.
