The City of Fishers is a smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial city that provides an exceptional quality of life, and fosters a culture of innovation and resiliency. In June 2016, the City of Fishers officially adopted the Fishers2040 Comprehensive Plan, a framework for the future of Fishers. The purpose of developing Fishers2040 is threefold: • FISCAL SUSTAINABILITY as community transitions from rapidly growing to stable population by 2040 • PURPOSEFUL PLANNING as city develops and redevelops toward a ‘built-out’ scenario to ensure Fishers thrives as a smart, vibrant and entrepreneurial city for long-term • PROVIDES DIRECTION and assists decision makers with short and long-term choices for improving the quality of life in Fishers

PARKS Fishers Parks System is a major component of Fishers’ cultural identity and an important contributor to the community’s vibrancy. Fishers boasts 25 parks that range in size from one acre to 127 acres and serve a variety of purposes. Fishers possesses a well-maintained, highly-regarded, clean, safe and quality parks system. Maintaining the high level of service and quality our parks are known for is a top goal. Key components of Parks Plan include: 1. A plan for land acquisition to maintain our parkland ratio as population continues to grow 2. Greater connection to our natural resources 3. Greater awareness of parks amenities 4. Improved connectivity throughout City to parks 5. Ongoing maintenance and care 6. Designing parks for all users and all seasons

The addition of bike lanes (center), amenities such as the Nickel Plate Trail (top right) and additional park spaces (bottom right) will help connect our community for years to come.

TRANSPORTATION State law allows municipalities to adopt our Master Thoroughfare Plan in conjunction with the adoption of our comprehensive plan, enabling integration of the plans. Fishers 2040 includes a robust Transportation Plan that examines the future transportation needs for both vehicles and people of all ages and abilities within the Fishers planning area. The plan’s goals focus on continued maintenance,

increased

and

integration with the Future Land Use Map. Key components of Transportation Plan include: 1. Policy prioritization for east and west Fishers, including:

• Maintain current roads • Increase capacity for vehicles • Complete pedestrian trails & sidewalk networks • Implement bike lanes • Stay engaged on mass transit discussions

2. Thoroughfare plan for future road network 3. Bicycle/Pedestrian plan 4. Design standards for roads and bike/pedestrian paths 5. Corridor plans for specific design of key corridors

FISHERS FIRE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES FILES OF LIFE & SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY As part of this year’s Disability Awareness Month in March, the Fishers Fire Department released two new programs to assist Fishers residents with disabilities: the File of Life and Special Needs Registry. The File of Life is an information packet that first responders can locate and use to treat residents in the event the patient cannot speak or communicate their medical information. Files of Life may be picked up at Fire Station 1 in the Municipal Complex. The Special Needs Registry is a new program that allows Fishers residents to proactively notify first responders of residents with disabilities. First responders can pull this secure information in the event of an emergency or disaster to better prepare for sensitive situations. View the Special Needs Registry by visiting www.fishers.in.us/fire.

BIG BRAINS! As part of the Fishers Mental Health Initiative, and in partnership with the Fishers Arts Council, the city welcoms Big Brains! to the Nickel Plate District this month. CITIZENS GOVERNMENT ACADEMY - NEW GRADUATES & YOUR NEXT CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE The bi-annual Citizens Government Academy (CGA) graduated its latest class on June 19.
