MEET YOUR STUDENT SUCCESS TEAM ENHANCING THE ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF HSE STUDENTS by Freedom Kolb In the Fall of 2017, Hamilton Southeastern Schools received a generous award from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. designed to enhance academic, college, career, and social and emotional needs of K-12 students. The Lilly Endowment’s aim is to increase the number of students who are emotionally healthy, realize academic success, and are prepared to compete and prosper in a global society. As part of this effort, HSE Schools have created a district level Student Success Team specifically focused on school counseling and mental health, equity and inclusion, and experiential learning. #SHAREYOURSTORY national disability awareness month provides fishers residents several opportunities to come together and celebrate our differences
According to the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, in Indiana, adults and children with disabilities represent slightly more than 19 percent of our state’s population. In conjunction with National Disability Month, Fishers Advisory Committee on Disability invites the community to share their story and engage in meaningful conversations about disabilities or what life is like for those with physical and intellectual challenges. In Fishers, we strive to build a community where individuals of all abilities can live life without limits. All March long, the community is invited to educational, family-friendly events to bring awareness and inclusion about disabilities.

PURE EATERY FISHERS OFFERS FRESH, HONEST FOOD FOR EVERY MEAL Though Pure Eatery Fishers opened its doors in April 2015, it remains a hidden gem in the Nickel Plate District. Conveniently located off 116th Street and Fishers Pointe Boulevard, it offers a centralized location for residents to walk or bike when weather permits. Walking inside, customers are immediately greeted by cheerful staff, local artwork lining the walls, and delicious smells. Pure Eatery originated as a fast, casual restaurant in Fountain Square in Downtown Indianapolis. Today, they offer customers fresh, honest food and a full-service bar complete with a house cocktail menu. When owners, Courtney and Dave Andrus and coowner Jason Jacobi decided to open a Fishers location, they saw an opportunity to become a pillar in the community and offer something other restaurants didn’t – nutritious and delicious food options. “Pure Eatery stemmed from our desire to mesh the world of food,” explained owner, Courtney Andrus. “We wanted to provide locally sourced food in a way that was approachable instead of intimidating. We created a menu that we hope encourages people to eat healthier, higher-quality food, that’s still fresh and filled with delicious flavor.” Pure Eatery is most famous for their lunch specials, but will soon introduce heartier dinner specials with help from new chef, Asante Horne. Andrus teases that new options will be arriving soon, including Beef Tips, Bison Burgers, Meatloaf, and a Black

THE YEAR OF PARKS Fishers Parks & Recreation has declared 2018 “The Year of Parks,” a citywide celebration of community recreation areas and public greenspaces. To celebrate the City’s own vibrant parks, Think Fishers will embark on a journey to explore one of 24 different Fishers parks each month in 2018.
CYNTHEANNE PARK From the little ones playing on the playground to community gardeners harvesting vegetables, Cyntheanne Park (12383 Cyntheanne Road) is a hidden gem busting with activity in northeast Fishers. Perhaps one of Cyntheanne Park’s most unique features is the vibrant landscape playground structure that promotes unstructured play, continual movement, and physical fitness for children of all ages. Along with five multi-purpose sports fields, the park also includes a 1-mile paved multi-use trail and a natural grass trail that’s perfect for staying active as warmer weather comes. This park isn’t just for kids: Cyntheanne Park is home to the Community Garden Program (CPG), which allows residents to rent 10 x 10 foot plots of land to garden for the season. Both conventional and organic growing is available, and residents can enjoy growing their own vegetables and fruit while engaging with other gardeners. For more information about the Community Garden Program and to register, visit fishers.in.us/CPG. The park also boasts the county’s only public outdoor pickleball courts. “The popularity of pickleball in Fishers has far exceeded our expectations,” stated Fishers Parks & Recreation Director Tony Elliot. “We’re excited that residents of all ages have taken to this sport, and we’re thrilled to continue to offer unique ways for our community to play in Fishers parks.” In fact, the sport has become so popular among residents and visitors that the City plans to build at least two additional courts at the park that will open this summer. Cyntheanne Park is open to the public to explore year-round from dawn to dusk. For more information, visit fishers.in.us/Cyntheanne.
