Throughout the past year, Fishers Parks & Recreation has placed an emphasis on creating events that connect the community. While the local chamber of commerce has taken the lead on the Fishers Farmers Market for several years, this year the City of Fishers and Fishers Parks and Recreation will head up the Fishers Farmers Market. This gives us a new opportunity to take the Fishers Farmers Market to another level, ensuring alignment with the city’s vision for vibrant community events that bring us all together. So, plan to come out and stay a while this season; farmers markets include live performances with plenty of room for dancing, eating or relaxing on the lawn. We know that Fishers Farmers Market will remain a summer weekend tradition for Fishers’ families as residents take advantage of the opportunity to support local farmers and vendors while getting the best local produce and goods around. This season, farmers markets will feature five specialty days which include:

JUNE 4

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

JUNE 18

WELLNESS DAY

JULY 16

AUGUST 6

SEPTEMBER 24

FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL

Additionally, the first 100 people to stop by the Fishers Parks & Recreation tent each week will receive a reusable shopping bag. Interested in learning more about farmers markets? #StigmaFreeFishers: Take the Pledge Stigmatizing attitudes toward individuals with mental health challenges are widespread and commonly held. Stigmas keep individuals struggling in isolation without networks of support and/or appropriate treatment. In Fishers, we’ve championed this collaborative mental health initiative in an effort to raise awareness of the mental health challenges that exist in our community and ensure that our residents have access to resources that will both prevent crises and help individuals when crises occur. In order make real strides on this front, we must become a stigma-free community. “At the end of the day, if we can help one person living in quiet despair, that’s a success,” said Mayor Scott Fadness. If you’re interested in joining this important effort, take the #StigmaFreeFishers pledge.

I Pledge… To Learn More about Mental Health Knowing the facts about mental illness can help you to educate others and reject stigmatizing stereotypes. Visit www.nami.org to learn more about mental health conditions, warning signs and how to offer help to friends and loved ones who may be dealing with mental health challenges. To See the Person, Not the Illness While 1 in 5 Americans live with a mental health condition, their diagnoses doesn’t tell their personal story. Don’t let a mental health condition stop you from getting to know a person and treating them with kindness and empathy. To Take Action Show your support for those struggling with mental health in our community by sharing your pledge to be stigma-free using the hashtag #StigmaFreeFishers on social media. You’re also encouraged to share personal stories about mental health at stigmafreefishers.com.
