FISHERS BIZ SPOTLIGHT with

Think Fishers caught up with Six Feet Up co-founders Gabrielle and Calvin Hendryx-Parker to learn more about the software company which recently moved from Launch Fishers into their own space. Curious about their company name? It’s a play on Calvin’s long-running family mortuary business – a great conversation starter. Think Fishers: Tell us about Six Feet Up - how did you begin and what do you do? Six Feet Up: We’re an 19-year-old startup company founded in San Francisco after moving there upon graduation from Purdue University. And what started out as a hobby, quickly grew into a business of providing content and collaboration tools for large companies and organizations. For example, we’ve worked with NASA to develop a dashboard to be able to see information coming back from the New Horizons mission, the Pluto visit mission. TF: What made you choose to grow your business in Fishers? SFU: The strong vision of Mayor Fadness includes this great mix of tech entrepreneurship with fun and recreational opportunities alongside a dedication to mental health here in Fishers. It’s a key reason why we love being here. TF: What’s new for Six Feet Up in 2018? SFU: We have several exciting things this year. We just moved into a new space just around the corner from Launch Fishers. And this helps us to continue to grow – we’re looking at increasing our staff by 25% this year. We specialize in the Python coding language as well as Amazon Web Services. With the Indiana IoT Lab – Fishers, the demand for IoT and data interpretation is increasing that demand. Ten years ago, we founded the IndyPy Python user group. It now has over 1,200 members and we’re actively growing that group through new programs that cater to both beginners and expert programmers. TF: To us, Fishers is smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial. Which of those words best describe your business and why? SFU: Smart is what we most identify with as a company and with the vision of the City of Fishers. Fishers is full of smart entrepreneurs and people, and it makes it a great environment to grow a tech business. TF: What is your go-to Fishers dining spot? SFU: Just one?! Our regulars are Bento Café or Four Day Ray which has great food and beer. Handel’s is a favorite for a treat. We’re looking forward to The Yard, too! Visit sixfeetup.com for more information, or follow @SixFeetUp on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.

understand and interpret the data,” Bradford stated. “The CAFR received an unmodified opinion from independent auditors, BKD, LLP, and this opinion was affirmed by the Indiana State Board of Accounts. We hope these measures will assure our residents that Fishers is committed to financial excellence.” Fishers was also the first city outside of Indianapolis to receive an audit from an independent audit firm. This process was incredibly stringent, and included the creation of an audit committee where committee members have specific qualifications. Fishers’ audit committee was composed of Michael A. Potter, a local CPA, and City Councilors Eric Moeller and John Weingardt, who worked diligently alongside BKD, LLC to adhere to the process. “It’s important to understand the CAFR is vastly different than the annual budget,” explained Weingardt. “While the budget outlines a plan for how monies will be spent annually, a CAFR contains actual results of the prior year’s financial activities in contrast to current financial conditions. A CAFR also provides a brief overview of likely future prospects.” Most recently, Fishers received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the GFOA for the 2017 budget. The City was one of only three in Indiana to receive this award, and it was the City’s 10th consecutive budget award. City leaders hope that residents take pride knowing that financial reporting, management, and transparency remain top priorities in Fishers.

SAXONY LAKE & BEACH Life is better on the beach, especially when you can soak up the sun without leaving Fishers! Saxony Lake and Beach (13358 Pennington Road) offers residents and visitors a chance to feel the sand beneath their toes at this 20-acre lake and 300-foot beach made from Indiana sand. Along with swimming and beach activities, Saxony Lake & Beach visitors who carry a state fishing permit can throw in a line at one of residents’ favorite fishing spots in the city. The beach is also home to one of Fishers’ premiere event venues, Saxony Hall. The 4,500-square-foot community building features a beautiful view of the sparkling water from the lakeside terrace, exquisite fire pits, and a stunning stone fireplace. The venue can accommodate 160 seated guests and is available to rent year-round. For more information, visit SaxonyHall.org.
