'TIS THE SEASON OF GIVING
#GIVINGTUESDAY BECOMES A LOCAL CELEBRATION OF HSE SCHOOLS by Emily Pace Abbotts, Director of School and Community Relations, HSE There are many reasons to shop this month: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday to name the most obvious. But another important day to keep in mind and to save a little money for is #GivingTuesday. It’s celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the above-mentioned shopping events. #GivingTuesday was created for one purpose: to reduce the commercialism of the holiday season by celebrating giving. Since 2014, Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation (HSSF) has raised $86,489 through #GivingTuesday. HSSF is the only district wide charitable organization investing funds directly back into local schools. Freedom Kolb, Executive Director of HSSF explains, “The funds raised during this global day of giving are re-invested into teacher led projects that are making a difference in student learning and engagement. But just as important, is the chance for our students, parents, alumni, and community leaders to flood our schools with compliments. In a time of selfies, we can take a minute to be “unselfie” and let that teacher, coach, bus driver, lunch staff, counselor, administrator, or nurse know what a difference they make in a child’s life. It is such a heartwarming day.” #GivingTuesday has been tremendously successful in advancing innovation in all 21 local schools. In past years, the effort has provided literacy kits to boost reading comprehension, outdoor learning opportunities, mental health curriculum, scholarship opportunities and more. In fact, by rallying our entire community in support of education we can impact every student, every grade, every school. “Public support of the Foundation is evidence of the investment mentality of this community. Dollars invested in the Foundation today will yield dividends tomorrow in terms of scholarship, innovation, and learning projects of many kids,” said HSE Schools Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff. “We at HSE are grateful for this investment and commit ourselves to working with the Foundation to realize the educational dividends of tomorrow.” As part of this year’s #GivingTuesday, local philanthropists have issued a challenge match of at least $20,000. That means, every dollar pledged on #GivingTuesday will result in $2 for local schools. Indeed, there is no better time to donate. It’s easy to take part in #Giving Tuesday now or November 29: 1. Go online at www.hsefoundation.org and make a donation. 2. Take a picture or video proclaiming why you gave using the hashtag #HSSFFunselfie on Twitter @hsefoundation, Facebook or Instagram. 3. Sit back, enjoy the holidays and relax knowing you’re making a difference in the lives of students and teachers.

FISHERS BIZ SPOTLIGHT
with
Fishers-grown tech company, Vibenomics (formerly Fuzic), is changing the game when it comes to visitor experience to location-based businesses. Founded and located in the heart of downtown Fishers, Think Fishers sat down with the team to learn more about them. Think Fishers: Tell us about you. What is Vibenomics’ 30-second elevator pitch? Brent Oakley: Vibenomics is a software platform that enables location-based businesses to create and control a vibe that will drive the economics of the business TF: We love that you’re a homegrown company here in Fishers. Tell us about what you love about growing your business in Fishers. BO: Fishers has a charming community feel but is geared toward innovation and business growth. Also, both of our co-founders, Brent Oakley & Nathan Miller live in Fishers, as does our Executive Chairman Scott McCorkle. TF: Which Fishers restaurant is the office favorite to grab lunch? BO: There are so many great spots in Fishers! The Vibenomics staff is known to frequent Thai Sushi House, LouVino, Four Day Ray and the new Portillos. TF: What’s new for 2018? BO: We just announced plans to add 255 employees and invest in new office space in Fishers all by 2020. We’re excited to move into the new Braden Building downtown Fishers and start adding new team members as we grow our business. We just went through a rebrand to better reflect how our customers use our software – to create and control a custom vibe for their businesses. We’ll also be releasing a new version of our software in 2018, which will further highlight the impact a carefully crafted vibe can have on the economics of a business. It will also introduce an advertising model. TF: To us, Fishers is a smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial city and we know our businesses are too. Which of those words best describe Vibenomics? BO: Of those three words, entrepreneurial best describes Vibenomics. We’re still very much in a growth stage, and we have a lot of grit. Like any good entrepreneur, we’re willing to put forth the necessary energy and effort to ensure the company is a success.

SHOP FISHERS OFFERS UNIQUE FINDS, CONVENIENT ACCESS, & ENDLESS REASONS TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON As Money Magazine’s 2017 Best Place to Live, there are many positive things that come to mind with mention of Fishers. Perhaps it’s an exceptional school system, a thriving business community, or an outstanding parks system. But this season, when residents think Fishers, local businesses hope they’ll think holiday shopping. Fishers has transformed from a small, bedroom community north of Indianapolis, into a vibrant city, filled with opportunities to live, work, and play without having to travel far. Shop Fishers kicks off on Saturday, November 25th, and invites shoppers to take advantage of discounts and deals this holiday season. Hosted in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, Shop Fishers encourages customers to spend their dollars locally, investing in our community, and supporting small business owners. In 2015, more 112 million shoppers reported shopping small in an effort to support local stores. In Fishers, the results were just as successful: • Gallery 116 reported their highest day in sales in over 15 years of business! This included a 40% increase in sales over Shop Fishers’ 2015 event. • North Star Health reported their busiest day in 42 years of business, up 42% over sales the previous year. • Boys clothing boutique, Roman & Leo reported a 15% increase in sales over the 2015 event, and a 300% increase in sales over the 2014's, the first year Shop Fishers was coordinated. Shop Fishers includes local restaurants and eateries, spas, clothing boutiques, and more. Each participating business is running a special deal, valid exclusively during Shop Fishers. A complete list of participating businesses, along with the deals they’re running can be found at Fishers.in.us/ShopFishers. Shoppers, don’t forget to share photos from your trip using #ShopFishers for a chance to win an exclusive Shop Fishers prize pack!
