When announced that he won Teacher of the Year for Sand Creek Intermediate and for the district back in May, Hochstetler said it felt surreal. “It’s nice to be recognized for your hard work,” adds Hochstetler. THINK FISHERS’ NON-PROFIT GROUP OF THE MONTH

DON’T MISS OUT! 10TH ANNUAL WOOFSTOCK presented by the Humane Society for Hamilton County

Saturday, October 6 | 11:30 AM - 6 PM Nickel Plate District AMP | $5* *Kids under the age of 10 and military personnel with ID are free Visit hamiltonhumane.com to register ahead of the event for the Survivor Charity Walk. The Walk helps to raise funds for the Humane Society for Hamilton County’s Survivor Program, covering life saving and emergency care for animals in need.

THE HUMANE SOCIETY FOR HAMILTON COUNTY’S ANNUAL FESTIVAL OFFERS A PAWS-ITIVELY GOOD TIME 8

OCTOBER 2018

Public parking for this event will be available at the Police Parking Garage and the One North Parking Garage.

This month, Indiana’s largest pet friendly music festival returns to the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater. The Humane Society for Hamilton County will host Woofstock on Saturday, October 6 from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The annual fundraiser is one of the Humane Society’s biggest events, with an average of 4,000 attendees annually. Now in its tenth year, the event has become a community tradition, attracting furry friends big and small. With dozens of vendors, activities for kids and canines, live music, food trucks, and a beer and wine garden, Woofstock offers fun for all ages. “We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our 10th Annual Woofstock Festival and Charity Walk at the newly renovated Nickel Plate District Amphitheater,” said Rebecca Stevens, President and CEO of the Humane Society for Hamilton County. “This year will be our best yet with new activities and attractions for both dogs and their people, as well as a great mix of regional and national bands performing on the Woofstock Stage!”

The festival kicks off with the Survivor Charity Walk, which helps the Humane Society serve medical cases that many other shelters won’t accept or must euthanize. Proceeds fund the emergency and life saving care for thousands of abused, injured, and seriously ill animals each year. This program also covers costs associated with rescuing over 200 animals each year who are at the greatest risk for euthanasia in other Indiana shelters. Last year’s walk raised over $30,000, and this year, the Humane Society hopes to hit $50,000. Mayor Fadness will serve as the Grand Marshall for this year’s walk. “Our goal is to not only raise funds, but also share our life saving mission,” said Missy Wright, Marketing Director for the Humane Society for Hamilton County. “As one of the few open-admission, no-kill shelters in the US, we offer programs such as our Pets Healing Vets, Pitbull Angel, and Survivor Program. We love the chance to share our mission and host a fun family and pet-friendly event!” Admission is $5 per person, and kids 10 and under are free. Military personnel with ID are free. BRAND NEW HQ

FISHERS POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDS UPON COMMUNITY TRADITION IN NEW ERA OF LEADERSHIP 10

It’s a new chapter for the Fishers Police Department. Last month, the department moved into brand new headquarters in the Municipal Complex, and swore in a new Chief of Police and Assistant Chief. But even with these changes, the department’s dedication to serving the Fishers community remains the driving force of everything they do. Last month, the department moved out of their station directly north of City Hall and across the street to the new 4 Municipal Drive, a three-story complex near the Hamilton East Public Library. The new facility offers additional office space, allowing for the entire department to work out of a singular building and combine all their resources under one roof. The new office space promotes collaboration with open work areas and meeting spaces. Along with additional office space, the building includes new features such as an evidence processing room, enhanced armory, K-9 office, additional interview rooms, a family room, and a parking garage available to the public in the evening. A significant new feature is a 5,000-square-foot storage room, which replaced

THE YEAR OF PARKS Fishers Parks & Recreation has declared 2018 “The Year of Parks,” a citywide celebration of Fishers’ vibrant recreation areas and public greenspaces. In celebration of this initiative, Think Fishers is showcasing one of 24 different Fishers parks each month.

BROOKS SCHOOL PARK One of the City’s most frequented parks, Brooks School Park (11780 Brooks School Road) is known for its many inclusive ways to play and explore in Fishers. Tucked just southeast of the Sandstone subdivision at 116th Street and Brooks School Road, the park totals 16.5 acres of fun for all ages and abilities. Brooks School Park is perhaps one of Fishers’ most multi-faceted parks, offering activities for all interests. The park boasts multiple athletic facilities, including an open play area popular for soccer and rugby games, and a full-size basketball court. It is also the only park in Fishers offering a horseshoe pit. Looking for a new running path? Runners and walkers will enjoy the quarter-mile multiuse trail loop accessible from 116th Street, and little ones will delight in exploring the park’s unique Born Learning Trail, a United Way initiative focusing on early education. The bold colors and designs lead young children along the path, offering a series of 10 interactive activities for preschool-age children to learn and explore in their environment. Along with vibrant trails, the park also offers a bridge and dock overlooking Mud Creek where visitors can relax and enjoy the fall foliage. Another unique feature of Brooks School Park is the inclusive, ADA-accessible playground. With twenty-one different activities to explore, including slides, bridges, a sensory play area with instruments, and climbing rocks situated on a rubberized surface, the playground is accessible for all ability levels. The park is also a popular spot for gettogethers with family and friends. A picnic shelter is available for the public to rent, and several picnic tables offer the perfect place for a fall picnic. Brook School Park is open for the public to explore year-round from dawn to dusk. For more information, visit playfishers.com/BrooksSchool.

CHECK IT OUT! Renting a park shelter or building is now easier than ever with Fishers Parks & Recreation’s new online system! Visit playfishers.com/Rentals to explore park shelters and buildings available to rent, and easily set up and pay for your rental online.
