The Sheik of the Creek

Sometimes it helps to sit back and smell the roses. Or in this case, the blue salmon. I’ve not been able to catch jack, barra or threadies, my favourites, over the past year or two, but what I have been able to corner have been some cracking blues. They’re

probably not able to be mentioned in the same breath as the above when it comes to dining excellence, but in terms of fighting ability, they are first class. They hit like jack, although perhaps not as ferociously, and can fight like kings when they get boat side. I got a good specimen yesterday and he went into the ‘chullybun’ for a couple of hours. As of this morning,

I haven’t had the time to clean it out so there is an aroma of fish hanging around the downstairs rooms of a mate I’m staying with. I thought about cleaning it out, but decided not to for several reasons: 1. I’m lazy. 2. There’s only one reason really. I’m lazy. But as a consequence I did some thinking while having my morning coffee (unlike Boobies and Skipper, morning coffee isn’t a precursor to 5 minutes of violence, so I have uninterrupted time here) and found myself considering the wise words of Eric Idle: “You’re born wiv nuffin’, you leave wiv nuffin’, wot have you lost? Nuffin!” And I’m reminded of MELBOURNE those words because I wonder MELBOURNE MARINE CENTRE how I sat on the edge of the 393-399 South Gippsland Hwy world’s largest sand island on Dandenong a warm,South calm afternoon and P: (03) 2003 all 9703 I could think about was keeping the livies swimming E: info@melbournemarine.com.au and watching the rod tip to W: melbournemarine.com.au check for marauding bream picking the baits clean.
