Nestled amidst quintessential English countryside on the Essex-Suffolk border, Hedingham Castle stands as an iconic testament to British history, with a heritage spanning almost 900 years.
The 160-acre estate is privately owned and has remained in the same family since it was built in the 12th century by the Earls of Oxford. Comprising the Norman Castle, a Georgian Country House, two charming cottages and magnificent grounds, Hedingham is a diverse and unique venue for events, weddings, stays and experiences, within easy reach of London.

One of the most romantic and unique venues in the country, couples choosing to marry at Hedingham get exclusive use of the venue for the duration of their wedding, and their guests are treated to many spectacular backdrops throughout the day.
Flexibility is key at Hedingham and the team fully understands the need for weddings and events to be completely bespoke and personal to each and every client. By hosting your celebration at Hedingham, you become part of its rich heritage yourself.
Owners, Jason Lindsay, who is a direct descendant of the de Veres who founded the estate, and his wife Demetra, are always looking for new ways to bring Hedingham to life for guests and to keep the destination relevant for the modern day. Last year, they transformed the top floor of the Norman Castle into a magnificent bedroom, the Royal Chamber. Demetra is an architect by trade and designed the space, whilst Jason did the majority of the building works himself. Featuring a grand four-poster bed, exquisite tapestries and exceptional views, the Royal Chamber also includes modern additions, such as a large bath big enough for two and a cleverly hidden smart TV that can be watched from the comfort of the bed.
The room can be booked on a Bed & Breakfast or Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis. Champagne, chocolates and a continental breakfast for two are provided with every booking, and, if dining, a locally sourced 5-course tasting menu is served in the breathtaking Banqueting Hall, quite a setting for an intimate dinner for two!

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions
Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.
Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated –as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent.
The report, carried out by Dr Philip Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.
“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”
In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.
The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.
Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.
“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.
It’s a new life stage for kids and parents alike, says Claire Spreadbury.
It’s the end of an era when your child leaves primary school. Your life and support network have been intertwined within a community that’s always at the end of the phone – if not a WhatsApp message – but now big school is looming and it’s time to move on.
Some of that network moves on with you, but a lot of it won’t. And discovering the best ways to tackle secondary – and all the difficulties that can come with it – is often tricky. Arm yourself with these tips and you should breeze through.
Get them kitted out with epic new stationery
Smiggle might rule the school at primary, but once they’re 11, Stabilo pens and highlighters are top of the lust list, and Paperchase becomes your go-to. Pencil cases should be sleek and cool, and funky organisers and pads make the whole experience feel fresh.
Label everything
Once they’re starting secondary, everything seems to cost quite a bit more – the fancy stationery, the school bag, the uniform. To avoid pouring all that money down the drain, be sure to label everything, so you can claim it back if (when) it gets misplaced. You can buy name stamps which don’t wash out, stickers which genuinely stay put or even grab a good old Sharpie and write on the labels.
Deck them out in cool shoes
When it comes to shoe buying on a budget shop online. And if they’re picky, the likes of Next and
Very let you order several pairs at once, so you can try them all on, return the ones you don’t want and only pay for the ones you do. Oh, and try Kickers. All the cool kids are in them.
Get the tech set-up right
We’ve all learned the hard way that homeschooling on shared tech is somewhat problematic. The good news, however, is live lessons are a breeze at secondary school, especially if they have their own computer. The Honor MagicBook 14 is ultra light and fast with an all-day battery and fast charging, all while minimising blue light by 50%. Google Chromebooks are also a dream, especially as most schools use Google Classroom.
When your child makes new friends, it’s much harder to get to know their parents. Lots of kids make their own way to school, and they have a phone to organise their own socials. This can feel a little bit worrying when your son or daughter is talking about going to a sleepover and you’ve never even met the child whose house they are staying at, let alone their mum or dad. Undoubtedly, this will get harder. You will be an embarrassing and interfering parent, so before they reach the Kevin The Teenager stage, try to get parents’ numbers, invite kids to your house, ask their mum or dad in when they come to pick them up – it can really help to reassure you.
Label everything, so you can claim it back if (when) it gets misplaced
Deciding a primary school for your child is an important decision and for those opting to pursue the independent sector, there are now varying options as to whether to sit your child for 3+, 4+, 7+ or 11+. In some areas, even 5+ and 6+ options are available.
Whilst transitioning early into a ‘through’ school may appear to alleviate the pressure of sitting 11+ examinations, there are a number of reasons why this is not necessarily true. There are also strong arguments to support remaining in a primary school up until the point of 11+ – a familiar environment, pupil knowledge and the potential to flourish.
Firstly, remaining in a through primary school provides children with a familiar and consistent environment. This safe and nurturing environment helps children to develop positive connections both with adults in the school and with their peers. It is these connections that develop and change as the child’s character and personality grows. For some children, these connections can be established quickly, whilst for others a longer duration is needed. By providing children with a familiar environment, we are able to encourage pupils to develop these connections at their own pace, whilst also providing a foundation for developing their own academic progress.
Developmentally, certain skillsets do not start to develop until post 7+ and therefore the ages of 7-11 years are still key in gaining an understanding of the areas that a pupil may thrive.
In addition to this, pupils in Years 5 & 6 experience both physical and emotional changes. They are starting to mature and become more independent and socially aware. Year 6 becomes a natural time of change for a child and the 11+ transition, a time at which a potential ‘fresh start’ is both welcomed and needed.
Finally, the aim of all education is to help an individual grow, develop and flourish. With the establishment of strong connections and a deep understanding of the pupils, the support and provision for the individual can also develop. By focusing on the individual development both inside and outside of the classroom with engagement via our 360-degree curriculum, pupils are given opportunities to learn more about how they feel, who they are and where they belong. This in turn encourages them to be a balanced and well-rounded individual, ready to flourish as they embark upon their next academic journey.
By the age of 10/11 years, not only have we, as teachers, gained a deep understanding of each pupil, but the children themselves are also more self-aware and understanding as to what they like and dislike.

Some legal protections are automatic. For example, we are automatically protected against discrimination under the 2010 Equality Act. Others, however, are neither automatic nor mandatory – there is some effort involved on our part to ensure that we are protecting ourselves and those we love from adverse situations as we move through life.
When it comes to giving yourself the very best legal protection, there are a lot of factors to think about! That is why Attwaters Jameson Hill have developed a legal checklist to help you consider some of the key legal documents you should have on hand to give you and your loved ones every advantage in life.
Not all of the below will apply to your personal situation; our checklist is designed as a prompt to help you consider your own needs and seek legal advice on the options that may be suitable for you.
Drafting your Will
• Have a Will professionally drafted in the presence of a solicitor
• Have your Will redrafted by a solicitor as and when your circumstances change
Ensuring your wishes are respected
• Set up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)
• Make a living Will
• Record your wishes in an advance statement
Protecting your interests
• Draft a pre-nuptial agreement with your solicitor
• Sign a declaration of trust for your property
• Think about a cohabitation agreement
Keeping your assets safe for future generations
• Explore the tax planning opportunities available to you
• Consider a trust to hold your assets
Safeguarding your business for the future
• Plan for succession
• Review your contracts and documentation
At Attwaters Jameson Hill, our multidisciplinary team is here to help you take care of all your legal protection needs under one roof. We will proactively explore with you all the legal protections that can be put in place either for you or for members of your family, with the ultimate aim of ensuring you are protected against whatever life may bring.

Keep your locks looking healthy and vibrant with these top tips.
By Katie Wright.Sun, sea and swimming pools may be the key ingredients for a fantastic summer holiday, but when it comes to hair colour maintenance, it’s a different story.
UV rays, salt water and chlorine all have the power to turn rich brunette to mousy brown, ravishing red to sad salmon pink, and platinum blonde to yucky yellow.
That’s why protecting your hair is so important during the sunnier months, whether you’re at home or on holiday abroad.
Here, hair experts offer their advice on how to stop your hair colour from fading in the sun…
“The main reason why your colour fades is due to UV rays stripping away colour, especially if your hair is colour treated,” says Keiko Mizuno, education lead at Living Proof UK.
“Naturally dark and light hair can get stripped from the sun too as UV rays lift all pigment, but it is more visible on lighter hair as blonde hair has less pigment compared to brunette hair.”
Keeping your hair hydrated before you go out in the sun is the first step to lock in your colour.
“Apply leave-in conditioner to repair and deeply nourish dry, brittle and dull hair, or create your own shade with a hat or parasol,” says Michael Kent, hair stylist at Blue Tit salon in London’s Streatham.
“Try using a heat protector on your hair. This reinforces the structure of the hair and boosts natural defences against ultraviolet radiation.”
Not only are masks great for helping repair damage after a day in the sun, you can use them as a colour protector while sunbathing.
“Using a hair mask while in the sun will enhance its conditioning benefits,” says hair stylist Adem Oygur, who recently opened his salon Adem in London.
“You can dampen and mix a small amount to use as a setting product to keep stray hairs in place, whilst treating your hair to deep conditioning. When you wash your hair at the end of the day, it is hydrated and nourished.”
Mizuno recommends adding a bonding treatment into your weekly summer hair routine:
“Try using a heat protector on your hair. This reinforces the structure of the hair and boosts natural defences against ultraviolet radiation”
“Stronger bonds in your hair maintain colour vibrancy and longevity – plus it has UV protection as well as heat protection.”
Don’t wash your hair too often
“Washing your hair every day with shampoo strips your scalp and hair of all its natural oil,” says Kent – meaning the colour can fade faster.
“Instead of using shampoo, just use lukewarm water to remove the dirt from your hair without rubbing your scalp.”
Alternatively, Mizuno suggests: “Elongate your clean hair by using dry shampoo.”
To keep dyed hair looking salon-fresh, make sure you tailor your shampoo choice.
“Only use shampoos that are safe for colourtreated hair,” says Oygur. “You will cut down on how frequently you need to re-dye because these specially formulated shampoos won’t strip the colour, and will keep your hair looking fresh and vibrant throughout the summer.”
To stop blonde tresses turning brassy, use purple shampoo followed by a hydrating conditioner.
Keep chlorine at bay
While chlorine is necessary in pools for hygiene reasons, it can play havoc with your hair.
“That’s because chlorine breaks down the proteins of the outer layer of the hair which leaves it feeling dry and rough,” Kent explains. “If
the outer layers of the hair shaft have increased porosity, colour molecules can escape easily.”
If you really want to protect your crowning glory, there’s only one solution, he says: “Put all your hair in a swimming cap – if you have long hair, braid or twist your hair up first and do not forget to tuck in all your edges.”
If a latex cap is going to cramp your summer style, a moisturising barrier is the next best thing.
“Rinse your hair with fresh water before you swim then gently coat it with conditioner, a hair mask, or some hair-friendly oils – this will create a barrier against the chlorine,” Kent says. “After your swim, rinse your hair with fresh water and shampoo and condition as normal.”
This chic shade is a staple you can rely on, says Sam Wylie-Harris.
Call it espresso, café au lait or cortado, when it comes to getting a caffeine fix in the fashion world, chocolate brown is where it’s at.
Super versatile, add a dash of creamy beige or wear it straight up… brown is an earthy, warming tone that doesn’t shout and stays true to form in its classic style.
Far from frothy and so much more than a safe neutral, this designers’ favourite has re-emerged as a standout item for its warmth and bankability –brown is universal and suits everyone!
Here’s what’s hot on the high street…
Whether you go aviator, biker or bomber, a jacket will be your hardest working standout piece this season. Hitting that sweet spot between a jacket with attitude and timeless elegance, you’ll get even more mileage from this must-have by pairing it with a diaphanous dress when the spring collections drop.
It’s no secret the contrast of brown against black is never bland, with that luxe look lending newness to anything you wear it with. Especially when you look forward to wearing a silky ruffle blouse, sexy sheer shirt or sequin T, the beauty of brown is that it makes everything look bang up to date.
Looking to break boundaries? Why wear black leather leggings or trousers when you can nail the quiet luxury trend in the same frame… top your brown bottoms with rich earthy tones or cosy caramel knit to look effortlessly cool.
Head-to-toe is the way to go for a polished, sophisticated look. Dresses and two-pieces in rich chocolates and mocha, belted and accessorised with tonal hues, a maxi bag or clutch (both trending for S/S 24) looks chic and effortless. Furthermore, designers are playing with texture, such as ribbed wool with leather, faux fur embellishment and sweater dresses made from sweatshirt fleece for a contemporary twist on this beloved basic.
“A jacket will be your hardest working standout piece this season”
International Women’s Day falls on 8th March each year and is a day of celebration of the achievements of women worldwide. To celebrate this day in 2024, ProVen Probiotics is launching a gut-health related program specifically for women over 40 years of age, who are heading into or already in menopause
The Rebel Up plan is a 10-week program that incorporates key elements to help support a healthy menopause experience – with an understanding that digestive health plays a key role in relation to this transition.
The answer is – in many different ways, including energy production, brain health, weight, hormonal balance and specific vaginal symptoms, the precise mechanisms of which are not all yet clearly understood, but which include the following five key areas:
On a basic level, the GI tract is the main route by which the body removes excess hormones and if the digestive tract is not functioning well, this can also impact liver function and detoxification, leading to imbalanced hormones.
Healthy detoxification and elimination pathways are required to clear unwanted hormones from the body effectively and efficiently and our gut bacteria play a key role in both of these pathways, with different bacteria strains binding to toxins and breaking down foods to help eliminate unwanted compounds from the body.
As we reach menopause, both oestrogen and progesterone levels fall dramatically. Low oestrogen levels are linked to reduced gut microbiome diversity and particularly a reduction of Lactobacillus bacteria, which are the key strains found in the female genito-urinary tract. This reduction in Lactobacillus has been shown to increase susceptibility to UTIs and other infections and has also been associated with vaginal atrophy and related menopausal symptoms, such as itching, burning and dryness.
Our gut bacteria interacts directly with our endocrine system. Some bacteria specifically help to regulate and metabolise oestrogen, helping to recirculate oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone and ensuring oestrogen levels are balanced in relation to other hormones.
Gut bacteria are also known to be involved in manipulating metabolic physiology and cortisol production and thus influence weight and energy balance, key issues for some women during menopause.
Based on these reasons alone, it is clear that supporting the gut microbiome with probiotics could potentially help to support menopause-related outcomes, with Lactobacillus species also providing specific support for the genito-urinary microbiota.
Our For Women product has been designed specifically for the female microbiome. Each capsule includes 12.5 billion of our extensively researched Lab4 probiotics, which contains two Lactobacillus acidophilus strains, and an additional 5 billion Lactobacillus gasseri, known to be one of the most abundant strains in the vaginal microbiome.
ProVen Probiotics For Women also contains cranberry extract and vitamin B6 to provide further support for women’s health and hormonal activity.
Cold water swimming ‘improves’ menopause symptoms – what other activities have been proven to help? By Abi Jackson
Cold water swimming has surged in popularity recently, with a growing body of science backing up its health benefits – and now research suggests it could help alleviate menopause symptoms, too.
A team at University College London (UCL) surveyed 1,114 women who regularly swam in cold water, including 785 who were menopausal.
Some 46.9% said cold water swimming helped their anxiety, 34.5% said their mood swings had improved, while a fifth noted reduced night sweats. As for hot flushes, 31.1% said this symptom had improved. Those who swam more regularly or for longer intervals reported greater benefits, the research found.
Commenting on the findings, published in Post Reproductive Health, senior author Professor Joyce Harper, of the UCL EGA Institute for Women’s Health, said: “Cold water has previously been found to improve mood and reduce stress in outdoor swimmers, and ice baths have long been used to aid athletes’ muscle repair and recovery.
“Our study supports these claims, meanwhile the anecdotal evidence also highlights how the activity can be used by women to alleviate physical symptoms, such as hot flushes, aches and pains.
“More research still needs to be done into the frequency, duration, temperature and exposure needed to elicit a reduction in symptoms. However, we hope our findings may provide an alternative solution for women struggling with the menopause and encourage more women to take part in sports.”
Here are some other activities with researchbacked benefits for easing menopause symptoms…
Entering midlife and beyond doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to high-impact exercise. In fact, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists cites aerobic exercise – such as jogging and running – as an evidence-based lifestyle measure to help manage menopause. It’s never too late to start, either. A 2012 study which looked at how aerobic training affects symptoms in recently postmenopausal women who’d previously had sedentary lifestyles, found after six months, symptoms such as night sweats, mood swings and irritability had improved. High-impact activity has also been linked with supporting bone density in post-menopausal women – which is especially important as the drop in oestrogen that happens with menopause can cause weakened bones and osteoporosis.
With reduced anxiety and inflammation among its many science-backed benefits, it’s perhaps no wonder research also suggests yoga could help
with menopause. One such study, published in 2022 in Nursing & Health Sciences, found yoga was particularly associated with improved sleep among peri- and post-menopausal women.
Resistance or strength-training exercise is especially important for women in their 40s, 50s and beyond – firstly because being strong helps manage the effects of oestrogen loss and that previously mentioned higher risk of osteoporosis. It also supports metabolic function, which is good news for health overall. One study published last summer found menopausal women who took up resistance training (this could be lifting weights or dumbbells, using the strength-building gym machines or even just your own bodyweight with a mat-based workout), had better muscle mass than those who only did cardio. While not a menopause symptom as such, women’s risk of cardiovascular disease can increase post-menopause – and regular exercise has been found to help with this too. One data review published last year found all forms of regular exercise – including aerobic and resistance training – were associated with better cardiorespiratory fitness after menopause.

Fads come and go, but when is a trend not a trend?
“The ‘quiet luxury’ anti-trend is an understated approach to dressing that can be perfected by styling timeless, low-key staples with minimalistic designs,” says Sheila McKain, chief product officer at Hush.
Indeed, when celebrating classic tailoring, ‘quiet luxury’ proves a little goes a long way.
Think pared-down pieces that don’t shout ‘look at me,’ but have a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes you look effortlessly chic and rich – without a logo or label in sight.
To master this aesthetic, McKain says you don’t have to spend thousands on high-end designer pieces: “It’s more about choosing great quality and thoughtful design – selecting core items you can use to create a base is key.”
She says trophy pieces include a classic blazer, wide-leg trousers or straight-leg jeans and a crisp, white shirt. “When styled together, each of these pieces can create a multitude of everyday looks,” suggests McKain.
To ensure you get the most wear out of each item, she says to keep colours neutral and stay within a palette of brown, beige, black and white.
As far as accessories go, she says jewellery should be kept minimal with something as simple as a small hoop earring.
If this sounds a little too safe, a gold bangle or carefully selected thin gold necklace chains (styled effortlessly) will luxe up your look to the desired effect.
As Sian Ryan, director of design at River Island, puts it: “Quiet luxury is essentially a wardrobe of styling essentials, where items can be worn in a multitude of ways and span many seasons –ensuring customers get a true sense of value for money.”
The white shirt
“My favourite outfit at the minute is a white shirt teamed with a straight-leg jean and pointed-toe kitten heel,” says Ryan. “When I wear this, I feel put together, yet effortless. I like to think of it
as ‘easy elegance’.” Whether you wear your crisp, white shirt open with a sleeveless white vest underneath, or buttoned up nonchalantly, go a size larger to make it look more expensive. Longer in the sleeve, wider on the shoulder and a little more length gives it that luxurious, designer feel.
“Neutral knitwear in super-soft luxury yarns are perfect for when the days turn cooler,” says Karen Peacock, Albaray’s co-founder and chief creative officer. “A chic colour palette that goes with everything helps create multiple ways to wear.” Remember, fabrics play a leading role, so look for soft-to-the-touch in a smooth yarn for a cashmere cheat – or some texture for your rib crib-sheet.
“An elevated blazer in a heritage check looks ideal styled with a classic jean and white T-shirt combination,” suggests Peacock. “A simple look which creates an easy, pared-back luxe look.”
Whether you go for a washed look or mid-wash blue, a looser fit is encouraged to make them look premium. And remember, no obvious branding on the bum or rips on knees. Plus, if you can comfortably pose with hand-in-pocket, you’re in the inner circle for classy, desirable denim.
Looking ahead and transitioning into Autumn, a timeless camel coat always looks effortlessly chic. Naturally, the colour plays a part. Camel isn’t practical, it shows every mark and therein lies the beauty of it – you’re wealthy enough to fork out for dry cleaning bills. “A camel coat offers versatility and a sense of polish to any outfit,” notes Peacock. A welcome addition to any wardrobe, she says a masculine silhouette and slight oversized fit allows for multiple layering opportunities… we’re thinking an ivory sweater tied around the shoulders, just so.
“From understated hoops to simple chains, the quiet luxury trend is about choosing the right pieces, and keeping it simple, timeless and refined,” says Sally Arkley-Wade, head of product and trading at H Samuel. She says to focus on quality materials and subtle details to create elegant and sophisticated looks. “Team your plain white top, those everyday jeans or timeless shirt with affordable must-haves,” suggests Arkley-Wade. “Choose from 9ct
gold chains, stack up your ear with 9ct gold hoops, or invest in the finer details – whatever your style, you will find something to suit your budget.” And select pieces which can be worn with a variety of outfits, she adds. “Mix and match delicate necklaces, stack thin rings, or layer bracelets to add depth and interest to your overall style.”
Shaffay, the luxury slipper boutique for women, is delighted to be launching their fabulous VelvetJewel Collection.
The Velvet Jewel Collection includes three unique patterns and colourways, each handmade in a gorgeous velvet with a richly coloured faux fur lining. The footbed is contoured for extra comfort and support. This collection is slightly wider fitting than our original Signature Collection and we have made the flexible rubber soles even more non-slip than before. The Velvet Jewel Collection retains the same ergonomic shape to ensure that they are easy to slip on and off but stay firmly on your feet.
Anna Elshafei, founder of Shaffay says, “Our original Signature Collection is a range of lovely, understated colours in soft nappa leather. I wanted
our new range to be equally lovely but quite different. We retained our classic Shaffay slipper shape but, this time, I wanted rich, jewel colours with dense, interesting patterns – in velvet to give a pretty sheen. I am really delighted with the Velvet Jewel Collection. I think they are beautiful. Definitely statement slippers!”

Gregory Phillips Architects have recently undertaken a full house renovation and extension project of a substantial traditional appearance house.
The house has been significantly extended, with the addition of two single-storey ‘wings’ at the rear and side of the house.
Providing new entertaining areas, as well as a spacious dedicated homeworking suite – combined with a new entrance hall and three-storey staircase these alterations and additions have reimagined the layout of this traditional home. The result is a family home with spaces that are modern, generous, and seamlessly connected to the landscaped gardens.
With a traditional central entrance hall, and cellular spaces for each activity, the existing house lacked natural light and a cohesive flow in use. The clients wanted each space to link to one another, and to provide a new open-plan family room and kitchen. The clients also wanted a space away from the main entertaining spaces that could be used as a dedicated work-from-home suite, with a gym, lounge, and library.
This is a transformational renovation of a pseudo-traditional modern home, resulting in an extensive 9000ft2 contemporary family home with dramatic spatial variety and bathed in natural light. The project also included a new landscape design with an external swimming pool.
Gregory Phillips Architects designed two single-storey ‘wing’ extensions to the house to provide entertaining and working spaces for the family – whilst re-building the rear façade of the existing house, allowing for the architectural language to carry through the entire rear façade of the
house. This dramatic, highly glazed rear of the house ensured that all the spaces felt connected to one another and seamlessly integrated into the landscaped gardens. A highly glazed ‘walkway’ was introduced to link the main house with the single-storey work-from-home studio – giving a physical link between these spaces, whilst also providing a ‘stroll through the garden’ for anyone walking from one space to the other. A new three-storey timber-clad staircase was designed to ensure that the existing entrance hall could be completely opened through to the rear of the house. This transforms the way natural light is brought into the house. Each space in the house can be closed off using internal glazed doors, whilst providing views through from one to the other. The result is a house that now feels open, inviting, and surprising. gregoryphillips.com 020 7724 3040
There are many reasons to choose to have an indoor swimming pool, from the benefits of everyday exercise to swimming without restrictions. An indoor pool guarantees perfect swimming conditions 365 days a year and is an investment that not only adds value to your home but to your health, social and family life too. “Having time in the pool every day gives you the space to work through any stress or worries with the movement of water over your body creating a massaging sensation which encourages you to relax”
It can help manage long-term conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and dementia. Additionally, it’s a powerful tool for promoting mental wellbeing by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Having time in the pool every day gives you the space to work through any stress or worries with the movement of water over your body creating a massaging sensation which encourages you to relax. With an indoor swimming pool from Origin, these benefits are on your doorstep, enhancing the quality of life for you and your entire family.
When you live in the UK you know sun is not always a certainty but an indoor pool makes it feel like summer all year round and provides limitless fun, entertainment and swimming no matter the weather. However, if you’re concerned about missing out on those outdoor swims during the summer months, bifold or sliding doors are the perfect solution. They allow you to open up your pool house completely, letting you bring the outdoors in without the inconvenience and restrictions of an outdoor pool.
Whether you have beautiful, undulating views or just want to open up the space, bifold or sliding doors give you the best of both worlds and a unique backdrop to swim against.
Origin believes owning a pool is about more than the pool itself – it’s about embracing a lifestyle of comfort, relaxation and joy. To truly get the most out of your swimming experience, your pool house needs to be well thought out and designed with your goals in mind. Indoor pools have special requirements that must be met to ensure your pool house is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional too. The good news is, Origin does it all, they eliminate the need to employ separate companies and manage the whole process for you. They’ve been building award winning indoor pools for over 40 years, and in that time have completed plenty of pools and pool houses to a wide range of specifications. Their team of experts will collaborate closely with you to create a swimming pool design that harmonises with your home, family and budget. Keeping it real. That’s what we do. Real wood furniture made by real people for real life.
We’re a small British furniture manufacturer, handcrafting beautiful furniture in our workshop in the North East of England. We also have a retail website where we sell to customers from across the UK.
Our solid wood furniture makes a perfect impression. Every single piece is handmade-toorder by skilled craftspeople and designed to last a lifetime.
We only use sustainably sourced timbers for our furniture and work hard to reduce our wastage as well as use recycled packaging that can then itself be recycled.
Spring Styling Tips from Sophie at Funky Chunky Furniture: “Spring is a refreshing season, a season where nature feels like it’s hit the reboot button, and all around us, our parks, gardens and fields comes back to their glorious, colourful best.
With cheeky snowdrops the first to brave the cold mornings, followed swiftly by cheerful daffodils, buds on the trees, and the birds full of song.
“Shrug off the cosiness of Winter and bring that happy Spring vibe into your home with some simple changes to your everyday as well as your decor.
“Start by flinging windows wide, to let that fresh air in. Nothing heralds the end of winter more than seeing curtains fluttering in a gently breeze coming through an open window, hearing birds happily singing away outside.
“Update your window boxes and herb planters with early flowering plants like Pansies and Primroses.
“Add pops of colour to your rooms. Pop flowers in vases or jugs, or show your house plants some love with an updated plant pot cover. Place a colourful throw over the arm of the sofa, for those cooler evenings. If you love a seasonal wreath on your front door, or around your home, it’s time to update those too. Clean and put away the wintry ones and choose delightfully bright and fun ones to add to that Spring theme.
“And with Easter just around the corner, you can start to think about decorating your home for that too. An Easter tree makes a wonderful statement in your home. Place a few large branches into a jug and decorate with Easter ornaments. The perfect place for it is either in a now redundant hearth, or on a console table in a hallway.” funky-chunky-furniture.co.uk

The ‘Curved Comfort’ trend continues to see us embrace curved lines and sculpted round shapes, inspired by organic forms of nature. A gentle curve adds interest to spaces with a multitude of straight lines. Soft shapes add ow, movement, balance and a sense of soulful minimalism to our interiors. They create an ideal environment for relaxation: a feeling of home, a sense of calm and serenity.
A free owing sofa offers a more intimate and inviting living space, creating an element of softness and sophistication into your home. Incorporating sculped curves through your sofa is a perfect way to optimise limited space and can introduce a touch of femininity through your home. BoConcept offers several beautifully curated collections including the Bergamo sofa with a round lounging unit, the Salamanca sofa, the Bolzano sofa & armchair, and the Modena sofa.
The Bolzano collection epitomises this shift to curved minimalism. With a sculptural silhouette, the elegant sofa has a streamlined look and feel. Designed by Morten Georgsen, the capsule’s organic round silhouette has a cocooning effect with curvaceous frames and puffed-up seats enhanced by pairing with cosy, inviting textures, like Lazio Beige bouclé. BoConcept’s Bolzano collection stands out thanks to its curved front panel that gives a 360 degree curve all the way around the seat. Additionally, there is now an option to invest in the modern accent chair, available with swivel functionality, seamlessly blending soft organic shapes with minimalist lines.
Continue the organic curves throughout your home with the Santiago dining table. Where beauty and functionality meet, this dining table makes an elegant statement piece for people who love to entertain. The oval-shaped top comes in durable and hardwearing ceramic, available in white, brown and AshGrey. This curvilinear design with enveloping shapes bring a warm and welcoming quality to dining spaces.
Enhance the coherence of your space by selecting accessories that mirror the sculpted round corners of your furniture. This approach adds visual appeal and ensures a seamless aesthetic throughout your home. BoConcept offers accessories that effortlessly complement their furniture, including rugs, lamps, and ornaments, fostering a complete, soft, organic feel in your living environment.
“THERE ARE NO STRAIGHT LINES WITH SANTIAGO. THE PANELS ARE CURVED, AND THE VAST CERAMIC TOP IS TRANSMITTING AN ORGANIC FEEL. EVERYTHING IS LIKE NATURE.”

Wallpaper is a wonderful way to inject personality into a room. Here is a selection of stunning kitchens and dining rooms, all beautifully papered with Divine Savages, proving there is no need to shy away from colour and pattern in more traditionally functional spaces.
Let the wallpaper shine by picking out its core colour of the wallpaper for the painted cabinetry & trimwork. The closer the colour match, the stronger the impact and the metallic pattern will pop. Bonus points for matching the metals of hardware and kitchen fixtures like the brass tap and sconces.
This playful print features mischievous felines stalking unsuspecting budgies - a wallpaper inspired by designer Tom’s love of the classic chase scenes in early animation. Affectionately named Bye Bye Birdie! it’s the very essence of the words divine and savage.
Kitchens often have limited wall space due to cabinets, so if you need to get your pattern fix in, the ceiling is the way to go. Vibrant Art Deco influenced wallpaper adds a sultry decadence to complement the green cabinets.
With just one wall to decorate in this kitchen, it’s the perfect place to use wallpaper. The large pattern has the power to transform the whole
room, but with limited space to cover, it comes at a fraction of the cost.
Make a statement by pairing a playful print on the walls with patterned chair cushions.
Our Crane Fonda wallpaper in Charcoal boasts intricate dark grey illustrations, but instead of using this dark tone as an accent, this designer has opted for a cool, neutral slate blue. All doors, windows, trim and even the fireplace are united together with this new-neutral, which frames the wallpaper pattern for a cohesive backdrop.
Pink isn’t one of the core kitchen colours, but it’s working on multiple surfaces here...the patterned wallpaper with matching upholstered chairs and a quiet pillow too.
