Discover extraordinary, beautiful, distinctive, useful things for interiors, exteriors and everyday joy.

Launched specifically for the interiors market in 1985 by a dealer in decorative antiques, The Decorative Fair was an instant hit with designers, decorators and the trade, and now an internationally renowned thrice-yearly event. It offers an exciting range of stock far broader than any traditional antiques event, in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

The 130 or so exhibitors are chosen to maintain a creative balance of decorative and formal British and European antiques, 20th century design, fine and decorative art from antiquity to the present day, unexpected treasures as well as affordable treats. As well as furniture, lighting and mirrors there’s a generous sprinkling of specialist dealers in rugs and textiles, garden decoration, glassware, silver, ceramics, fine jewellery, folk and tribal art, vintage watches and couture. The Decorative Fair delivers the perfect cross-section of the best antiques and period design on the market today.

The Winter edition of the Fair plays host on the Mezzanine to the London Antique Rug & Textile Art Fair. This annual event features a vibrant, colourful array of antique carpets, rugs, woven art and decorative textiles sourced from across the world, from simple tribal kelims to exotic eastern designs.

A Foyer display, The Architect’s Study, takes its influence from the backdrops to the Fair’s 2025 marketing campaign, drawn by the leading classical architect George Saumarez Smith, and taken from his wonderful Sketchbooks: Collected Measured Drawings and Architectural Sketches. The presentation will inspire visitors with a showcase of furniture, art and objects suitable for a study, reading or office area. All items come from dealers at the Fair and are for sale.

The Winter Decorative Fair is the perfect occasion to hunt for cosy and chic seasonal favourites: fireplace accessories such as decorative fireguards, irons and grates; club fenders and log containers; mirrors and lighting are always popular in January, they add an extra layer of glow in to a room; comfy upholstered seating such as Howard chairs and Victorian sofas; occasional tables, and glassware.

JAPAN’S ‘LUCKY BAG’ TRADITION PROMISES GOOD FORTUNE FOR 2025

Fukubukuro ‘lucky bags’ are among Japan’s many New Year (oshōgatsu) traditions

New Year (oshōgatsu) is Japan’s most important festival, and with it comes the sound of ringing bells as people mark the end of the old year and the beginning of the new with their first visit (hatsumōde) to a Buddhist temple or Shinto shrine. With three days of public holidays, and as businesses begin to reopen, it is the tills that start ringing as shoppers embrace one of Japan’s seasonal traditions, fukubukuro or ‘lucky bags’.

The New Year tradition of fukubukuro is to Japan what the January sales are to the UK. Shoppers head to their favourite shops and department stores to pick up fukubukuro (lucky bags) containing an unseen assortment of heavily discounted goods. Keenly anticipated by young and old, stores open early for shoppers who turn out in force to grab a bag at their favourite retailers (even Krispy Kreme has one). It’s impossible to know exactly what’s inside a fukubukuro – and that’s part of the fun. Fans of lucky bags each have their own techniques for choosing a bag, be that giving it a shake or a squeeze, or perhaps feeling its weight. However all buyers adhere to the policy of no refunds and no exchanges, as well as the

most important rule, which is not to peek inside! To break the seal on a lucky bag before buying it is the ultimate taboo.

This New Year, Japan House London’s own lucky bags will surprise and delight. Packaged in an exclusive draw-string cloth bag, this limited-edition fukubukuro is designed to reflect Japan House London’s elegant minimalist aesthetic with gifts that reveal aspects of Japanese cultures, innovation and craft.

Japan House London’s lucky bags will be available – in store on 101 – 111 Kensington High Street, and online on shop.japanhouselondon.uk from 2 January 2025, with three categories available, priced at £25, £65 and £125.

RETROGRADE

8 March - 14 June

The Apollo Theatre is set to host Retrograde, a compelling new play by the award-winning writer Ryan Calais Cameron, following its celebrated run at the Kiln Theatre in 2023. The production offers a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal moment in the life of Sidney Poitier, the groundbreaking actor and icon who became the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Set during the Golden Age of Hollywood, and inspired by real events, Retrograde chronicles a young Poitier on the cusp of a career-defining break. As he prepares to sign a coveted Hollywood contract, he faces a dilemma that will test his principles and challenge his integrity. In a time of betrayals, will he name names? Will he sign his life away?

The production features a stellar cast led by Ivanno Jeremiah, whose ‘tremendous’ (Time

Out) portrayal of Sidney Poitier has been widely praised as ‘a revelation’ (The Observer). Known for his roles in Constellations and Channel 4’s Humans, Jeremiah brings great depth and nuance as Sidney Poitier before he became the star we know today. He is joined by Stanley Townsend, most recently seen as President Minos in Netflix’s Kaos, and Oliver Johnstone who has just finished a run at The Old Vic in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing. Retrograde cements Ryan Calais Cameron as ‘one of theatre’s most thrilling voices’ (Independent) following his smash hit For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy, which enjoyed two sold-out West End runs.

Directed by the Kiln Theatre Artistic Director Amit Sharma, Retrograde is a gripping production that honors Poitier’s enduring legacy as a trailblazer, activist and icon. Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue W1 90 mins (no interval) | Age guidance 14+. nimaxtheatres.com

As you would expect with such a vast collection, there is an exceptional range across vintages and regions. From extremely rare ‘unicorn wines’ (as they are known in the trade) – such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru 2013 – to classic favourites from the hotel’s famous menus, including Château Lagrezette and Domaine de Trevallon 1998, with bottles from both iconic estates and lesser-known producers.

The Wine Cellar allows connoisseurs to journey from the Loire Valley’s blush rosés and aromatic Alsace whites, to the cask-aged reds of Spain, Italy and South America. The collection also includes sweet and fortified varieties, prestige Champagne Magnums and Jeroboams and rare ports such as Quinta do Noval Nacional.

Meanwhile, a carefully edited selection of spirits celebrates the small batch and the singular, from tropical aged rums to distilleries putting a unique spin on classic gin production. EXCITING NEWS: St Dunstan’s Education Group and St

Christopher’s

The Hall celebrate new merger

St Dunstan’s Education Group and St Christopher’s The Hall are delighted to announce a merger, which will take effect from 31 January 2025.

St Dunstan’s and St Christopher’s have been close neighbours for many years and St Dunstan’s has historic roots in Beckenham, not least through the location of its alumni sports club, which will come into the ownership and management of the group later this year.

Speaking about the merger, Head of St Christopher’s The Hall, Tom Carter, said: ‘From the outset, our conversations with St Dunstan’s revealed a cultural alignment and shared values.

‘Both schools are committed to fostering an environment where every pupil is empowered to develop, reach their full potential, and run their own race. This partnership is a testament to our shared belief in putting children at the centre of everything we do.’

Head of St Dunstan’s Education Group, Nick Hewlett, added: ‘I am delighted to be welcoming another school into our group of like-minded and highly successful schools in south-east London. St Christopher’s is a superb school, and I have no doubt that we will enjoy learning from one another as we continue to trailblaze our forward-thinking approach to education’.

St Christopher’s will be joining St Dunstan’s Junior School, St Dunstan’s Senior School and Rosemead Preparatory School and Nursery which are all part of the St Dunstan’s Education Group.

In recent years, St Dunstan’s has become increasingly known for offering a sector-leading, ambitious and forward-thinking

education, with schools within the group winning praise from prestigious award bodies. In 2020, St Dunstan’s was awarded Coeducation School of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards, which was followed by Senior School of the Year at the Tes Schools Awards, which are known as the Oscars of education, in 2022. Most recently, St Dunstan’s was named most progressive school in London and south-east England in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

St Christopher’s, which is located in the heart of Beckenham, is known for is high-quality, inspirational teaching, and its commitment to learning through a diverse, inclusive, broad curriculum.

The merger will take effect from 31 January 2025 and both organisations are looking forward to working more closely together and building on their respective successes. MEET THE HEAD

WE SPEAK TO JADE MCLELLAN,

HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL, AT ST DUNSTAN’S COLLEGE FOR OUR JANUARY EDITION ABOUT THE SCHOOL’S FORWARD-THINKING EDUCATION AND WHAT SETS IT APART.

What makes St Dunstan’s College Senior School such a special and unique place?

Whenever people come to visit us for the first time, they comment that there is a uniquely different atmosphere in our corridors – our students are down-to-earth, natural, at ease with themselves and showcase individuality and diversity in all its forms. As a school leader, I have the privilege of visiting many different independent schools and I am yet to find one with the history and heritage of St Dunstan’s, allied to a grounded and community feel. Added to this, there is the beauty of a genuinely cohesive coeducational environment where we see girls and boys on a life journey together, from the youngest age 3 in our Junior School, all the way up to the lifelong boy-girl friendships with which our students graduate from the sixth form. Our girls and boys are confident to speak up in front of one another, to seek understanding about one another’s similarities and differences, which we know is the best preparation for life beyond the school gates.

St Dunstan’s had become known as one of the most progressive schools in the country. Can you tell us more about this? Our progressive nature is really underpinned by two key pillars: curriculum and culture. We have designed our own, forward-

thinking and innovative curriculum, divided into four parts. Our academic curriculum is a broad Renaissance curriculum, and sees subjects such as Art, Drama, and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics as of equal value to Mathematics or Physics. Parts 2 and 3 are our self-designed Stuart and Usherwood curricula to teach children holistic skills. In Stuart lessons, they might spend one term looking at fake news and the rise of AI and another looking at understanding the menopause. In Usherwood lessons, they might be exploring the five pillars of mental health in September, and then looking at meta-cognition for learning in May. And finally, we have our Forder co-curriculum. In addition to designing a progressive curriculum, we encourage a similarly progressive culture by encouraging students to tackle thorny issues head on. We have a student and staff led EEDI umbrella organisation, The St Dunstan’s Diapason which ensures all forms of diversity are recognised and celebrated, both inside and outside of the curriculum through looking at curriculum plans, policies and assemblies.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

“Our progressive nature is really underpinned by two key pillars: curriculum and culture”

I think most people in teaching enjoy the forging of relationships with a diverse range of people, both young and old. This month I have enjoyed having lunch with our new Year 12s, where we discussed the vagaries of imposter syndrome, learning the names of our friendly new Year7s who always say hello in the corridor and making nitrogen gelato with Year 8 and 9. I have also welcomed a number of new teachers to the organisation, both brand-new to the profession and experienced and am training a colleague in their first ever senior leadership position. I have met countless parents, both current and prospective and have had so many interesting and invigorating conversations with them. It really is true that no two days are the same in teaching and this has certainly been the case in my first term of Head of Senior School! stdunstans.org.uk

ROSEMEAD LOOKS AHEAD TO AN EXCITING 2025:

The award-winning prep school celebrates recent success

Rosemead Preparatory School and Nursery is looking forward to an exciting 2025 after winning a number of prestigious national awards in the last 12 months.

Before Christmas, the leading prep school was delighted to reveal it had won an award at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Awards 2024.

The school, located in the heart of Dulwich, was awarded for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the ceremony which took place in November at the ISA Autumn Conference in Birmingham.

Speaking about the award, Head Graeme McCafferty explained: ‘The whole school is thrilled to receive this award from the ISA. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and I couldn’t be prouder of our school’s achievement.

‘At Rosemead, we are devoted to creating an inclusive, safe environment through quality first teaching and adapting resources. Cooperation and compassion allow our community to thrive. We aim to collaborate with our

“The school, located in the heart of Dulwich, was awarded for Excellence and Innovation in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion”

whole community to broaden our children’s experience and make learning accessible for all. Our goal is to create a sense of involvement, harmony, unity and

membership.’

Rudolf Eliott Lockhart, Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Schools Association (ISA), added:

“Once again, the ISA Awards have been a celebration of the innovative approaches to education from across the full range of our diverse membership. The broad selection of represented categories reflects the breadth of accomplishments by our schools; there is the potential for every type of school to excel within them.

“The whole community is delighted with this ISA award for Rosemead”

‘A place among the finalists, as well as being highly commended, is a great achievement. This year featured an impressive range of entries, and the final nominees were strong.’

In 2023, the school announced a merger with St Dunstan’s College joining St Dunstan’s Education Group.

St Dunstan’s Group Head, Nick Hewlett, said: ‘The whole community is delighted with this ISA award for Rosemead. The award rightly recognises the outstanding work and ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion at the school.

‘Bringing our schools together has been a wonderful opportunity, allowing our staff and students to work closer together, learning from one another and enhancing our students’ educational journeys.’

This is the second prestigious award for Rosemead. Last summer, the school won best Improvements in EDIB (Equality, Diversity,

Inclusion and Belonging) at the Education Choices Awards. A spokesperson for the Education Choices Awards added: ‘We have been really impressed with the work that schools have been getting up to this year in order to envelop Equality, Diversity and Inclusion into their curriculums and work, and it has been really tough to decide each winner.’

The two awards follow the school’s ISI inspection that took place at the end of 2023, and saw Rosemead become one of the first prep schools in the country to receive a ‘significant strength’ in its findings.

‘A highly customised approach to every pupil’s academic progress is a significant strength of the school,’ the report explained. ‘A customised learning programme in mathematics, English and reasoning caters for pupils in Year 4 and above. This, supported by an extensive enrichment programme and much support for individuals, impacts on all groups of pupils, enabling them to make good and often rapid progress over time.’

Rosemead’s early years’ provision was also praised in the summary findings. ‘Leaders in the early years effectively ensure staff have high expectations of the behaviour and achievement of children,’ the report found. ‘The positive relationships between adults and children in the early years help children settle in quickly and feel safe and happy.’

It added: ‘Children in the early years achieve well from their varied starting points. Adults engage with the children effectively and use appropriate questioning to develop children’s vocabulary and understanding. Children from an early age become confident speakers and develop their reading skills well.’

Rosemead was also nominated for Pre-Prep of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards. Find out more about Rosemead’s award-winning education at their upcoming open morning on Tuesday 28 January 2025. Book at rosemeadprep.org.uk

PRIVATELY

EDUCATED PEOPLE DOMINATE TOP BRITISH JOBS

The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions

Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.

Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent. The report, carried out by Dr Philip

“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”

Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.

In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.

The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated.

Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.

“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.

PARTRIDGES AWARDED ROYAL WARRANT BY KING CHARLES III

Partridges is honoured to have been awarded a Royal Warrant as Grocers to His Majesty The King. Thirty years ago, in 1994, Partridges was awarded a Royal Warrant to Her Majesty the Queen.

The high-profile store, an independent family-run food retailer, was founded in 1972 and operates in Duke of York Square, Chelsea and Gloucester Road, Kensington. It sells over 10,000 fine food and drink items and its slogan has always been “Good things for the larder.” Partridges is committed to becoming more sustainable and has achieved carbon neutrality over the past 12 months.

The original Partridges opened on 25th May 1972 by Sir Richard Shepherd in the fashionable area of Sloane Street in Chelsea. It quickly gained a reputation for selling the best quality foods from British producers and importing food and wines from all over the world.

From the early days it was a convenient place to shop, opening long hours and offering a free bicycle delivery service.

In 1981, Sir Richard’s younger brother John Shepherd took over the reins and continues to run the business today. He said... “On behalf of all the staff at Partridges I am absolutely delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Royal Warrant as Grocers to His Majesty The King. This is an incredible honour, and we are thrilled to have been supplying the Royal Family for over thirty years. We are sure that all our customers will be as excited

about this announcement as we are.”

Partridges in Duke of York Square features a café, a delicatessen counter, a weekly Saturday Fine Food Market, mouth-watering food and drink, a huge range of American groceries and a dedicated Eco-Friendly range. Their aim is to reduce Partridges’ impact on the environment and reduce their carbon footprint which in 2024, was reduced by 36.5%.

Firms that hold the prestigious Royal Warrant include grocers like Partridges, silversmiths and jewellers, wheelwrights and gun-makers, glovemakers, luxury car manufacturers, tailors and kiltmakers - the kind of luxury brands befitting of a royal family who reside in palaces and castles.

The distinguishing feature, no matter the size of the company, is to provide the highest standards of service…fit for a king.

EXPERTS REVEAL

BIGGEST BEAUTY TRENDS FOR 2025

Beauty experts delve into their beauty predictions.

As we step into 2025, it’s clear that trends of the beauty world are getting a face lift. While some fads vow to continue – such as 2024’s defining blush trend – new buzzwords such as ‘prejuvenation’ promise to bring a fresh face to the industry.

Here are the hotly anticipated beauty trends that experts say to watch out for in 2025.

Skincare and make-up hybrids

The year 2024 saw tweens and swathes of Gen Z focus more on their skincare routines than ever before. Children as young as eight were putting potent serums and anti-ageing products on their Christmas lists, according to the British Association for Dermatologists.

This – potentially worrying – obsession with skincare among the younger generations has forced make-up brands to pivot, making skincare-infused make-up a leading trend for 2025.

“There is certainly a growing demand for make-up infused with skincare, particularly products that suitable for all ages,” explains Oriflame’s senior marketing director Lydia Smeds. “Consumers are looking for items that simplify their routine without sacrificing performance.”

This comes in the form of SPF-infused foundations, lipstick-nourishing balms and peptide-pumped BB creams. This dual-purpose approach reflects the broader trend of beauty, where minimalist looks and streamlined product ranges aligns with a desire for practicality.

Prejuvenation

While skincare-infused make-up is on the rise in 2025, the idea of ‘prejuvenation’ is also expected to be the new beauty buzzword that enters our lexicon.

If 2024 was about “clean girl make-up” (which let the skin speak for itself) then 2025 is the year of “prejuvenation”: a proactive approach to skincare that prioritises long-term investments over quick fixes.

“Prejuvenation will be a strong aesthetic theme for 2025, implementing proactive skin tactics now in order to change the course of skin ageing later on in life,” explains LYMA founder Lucy Goff.

“The emergence of highly advanced energy-based solutions that are minimally invasive has been a real driving force,” says Goff, such as at-home laser light therapy and collagen-based serums and supplements.

This prevention tactic to beauty has become widespread, as many have realised that it is easier to prevent something, rather than reverse it.

“Skin is a long-term investment, and huge improvements can be seen by optimising our own cellular processes,” says Goff. So for 2025, expect bathroom cabinets crammed with LED masks and chemicalbased creams.

Relaxed bohemian glamour

While minimal make-up seems to be on the rise –getting glam will never go out of style.

For 2025, high-end glamour will come in the form of relaxed Bohemian style. “Relaxed glam is a big beauty vibe for 2025,” says Bonded founder Elizabeth Chandler. Think wispy lashes, unkempt brows and Seventies liner. “The perfectly buttoned-up and androgynous [beauty of] 2024 will be replaced with a softer, more feminine and floaty aesthetic in 2025,” she adds.

The Chloé runway brought boho-chic back into the fashion zeitgeist this year, and 2025 will see this trend tipping into the beauty sphere.

FASHION & BEAUTY

Chandler predicts this to appear in long soft waves, an earthy colour palette and eclectic styling – a pivot from the highly-strung “clean girl beauty” of 2024.

“There will be more Seventies and Eighties flavours which means that the natural undone look will run concurrently with the glam palette of the Eighties,” says Chandler. “There is this sense of the Eighties mindset in the air as we shake off the uptight perfection of 2024.”

Eighties glitter

While beauty seems to be taking a more relaxed approach in 2025, there’s no denying the impact of the Eighties this coming year. Nostalgia-driven beauty will be making a comeback in the form of playful pigments and loose glitter.

“Soft blush and sheen finishes were huge in 2024,” says Chandler, “reminiscent of 1980s glamour.”

As blush boomed in popularity – leading some on social media to question whether they had ‘blush blindness’ (a term for over-applying blush without realising) – other Eighties make-up staples like loose glitter are predicted to rise the beauty ranks.

Playing off the ‘relaxed bohemian glamour’ trend – loose glitter has a certain nonchalance to it, elevating your make-up look without looking too ‘done’.

Tailor-made beauty

The year 2024 saw the rise in personalisation across the board – and the beauty sphere was no exception.

“Historically, having something tailor-made to your requirements signalled exclusivity, but what started with health data tracking has developed into having an intricate knowledge of our bodies and wishing to treat them accordingly,” explains Goff.

Customised beauty products are reaching new heights by the day, with brands like Skin + Me and Klira taking Gen Z by storm this year; bespoke skincare kits are set to be a big trend. Hyper-targeted formulas at high-street prices proves personalised luxury is no longer

Pantone Colour of the Year 2025 revealed:

How to wear

‘MOCHA MOUSSE’

EXPERTS PREDICT THIS ORGANIC HUE TO BE POPULAR THIS YEAR. BY

Pantone has announced its Colour of the Year for 2025 as ‘Mocha Mousse’ – a more pared-back take on 2024’s ‘Peach Fuzz.’ Established in 1999, every year the Pantone Colour Institute assembles a panel of experts to examine global trends across entertainment, art, travel, fashion, and technology.

They collaboratively choose a colour that they believe captures the spirit of the times and will resonate globally in the year ahead.

This year, they opted for a light shade of brown, as Pantone Colour Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman notes, “[Mocha Mousse] reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures.”

Sophisticated yet unpretentious, the tone is inspired by our humble surroundings.

“This softer, earthy-toned shade of brown evokes a feeling of comfort and stability, maybe due to the fact that that we associate this hue with the natural world,” says Cliff Bashforth, managing director of Colour Me Beautiful Europe.

Bouncing off the chocolate brown and burgundy trend this season, ‘Mocha Mousse’ seems like the perfect choice for moving into the new year. This lighter, whipped update on a classic is arguably even easier to style throughout the seasons.

The ‘it’ shade for 2025 has already been sported on red carpets by celebs such as Rita Ora, who wore the hue in the form of a feathered Ashi Studio couture gown at the EMAs in November.

With ‘quiet luxury’ and ‘country club chic’ being some of 2024’s biggest fashion trends, the light brown hue is perfectly placed to style the wax jackets, riding boots and Argyle knits that are currently trending.

“As it’s a neutral shade, Mocha Mousse can be both versatile, understated and stylish,” explains Bashforth. “As outerwear for autumn and winter – trench coats, leather or suede jackets and gilets work well.”

The colour plays into the current fashion mantra of investing in timeless classics – as the neutral shade is a perfect base for pairing with bright accents or complimentary hues.

“The general public may gravitate toward investing in highquality, long-lasting pieces in this totally wearable colour as they become more environmentally conscious,” says Bashforth. “Buying less and wearing more is definitely the way forward!”

The colours to pair with this earthy neutral are endless – but choosing which ones to integrate into your wardrobe depends on your hair and skin tone.

If you have light skin and eyes and are perhaps naturally blonde, “opt for colours such as aqua, sky blue, ivory or dusty rose”, says Bashforth.

For those with darker hair and eyes, “team with burgundy, scarlet, lime green or turquoise”.

If you have warmer undertones, Bashforth suggests balancing the Mocha Mousse with apricot, mustard, orange or terracotta. For those with cooler undertones, he suggests pairing it with blue-based hues such as sky blue, plum, hot pink or raspberry.

A stand out piece from the year which exemplifies this refined, thoughtful, enduring-

yet- creative mood, is the Collina sofa by de Sede Design-Team and Atelier Oï. Both proudly functionfocused and a bold sculptural statement, the sofa is designed to fit into lively and dynamic homes, its innovative back rest segments able to move in all directions thanks to a newly developed patented design, meaning one moment you could be sitting facing the television, the next out of the window, the next ready for an intimate talk. There’s something enchanting about the organic, free flowing nature of glass – so when it’s shaped into linear or geometric forms, our brains spark and stir. CREATE YOUR SANCTUARY

Transform your life with an indoor pool from Origin

As we welcome the new year, many of us take time to reflect on the past and set intentions for a fresh beginning. For a lot of people, this is the time to prioritise health, wellness and self-care. While New Year’s resolutions often centre around fitness goals, there’s one way to achieve true transformation that goes beyond the gym or a diet plan: owning an indoor pool.

At Origin, we believe that the foundation of a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle begins with creating an environment that nurtures both the body and mind. This year, why not invest in a space that combines fitness, relaxation and well-being?

Origin’s bespoke indoor pools offer the perfect solution for those looking to transform their homes and embrace a holistic approach to wellness.

A YEAR-ROUND RETREAT FOR BODY AND MIND

A New Year is synonymous with fresh starts, so what better way to kick off 2025 than by incorporating a new daily physical activity that also calms the mind?

Swimming is one of the most effective low-

impact exercises, benefiting individuals of all ages and fitness levels. It helps improve cardiovascular health, build muscle strength and promote flexibility. As a full-body workout, swimming engages the core, arms, legs and back, efficiently burning calories while building endurance.

“You’ll find that every detail —from the temperature control to the surrounding ambience—is created to enhance your experience”

Beyond the physical benefits, swimming profoundly impacts our mental health. Immersing yourself in water can alleviate stress, improve mood and boost mental clarity. Swimming has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by promoting the release of endorphins— the body’s natural mood enhancers. The soothing rhythm of each stroke, combined with the calming sensation of the water, creates a meditative experience that encourages mindfulness and allows you to reconnect with yourself. Swimming also provides a welcome escape from the busyness of everyday life, as the water naturally disconnects you from distractions, leaving your phone behind and fully immersing you in the moment.

YOUR OWN PRIVATE SANCTUARY

With an indoor pool from Origin, you’re not just investing in a pool but in a space that offers endless possibilities. Whether you’re looking to create a serene sanctuary for peaceful reflection or a dynamic space for family fun and fitness, Origin’s pools cater to every need. Their expert team works closely with you to design an indoor pool that fits your lifestyle, needs and home environment. Choose from various sizes and designs, all tailored to suit your home’s space and aesthetic. Whether you’re looking for a sleek, modern pool or one with a more natural feel, they can make your vision a reality. The beauty of an indoor pool lies in its ability to serve as a year-round retreat—regardless of the weather outside.

SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATING WELLNESS INTO YOUR HOME

Origin’s bespoke indoor pools are designed with functionality in mind. You’ll find that every detail — from the temperature control to the surrounding ambience—is created to enhance your experience. But they don’t stop there. Whether you want to add a spa, sauna, steam room or yoga space, Origin can turn your pool area into a comprehensive wellness hub.

The benefits of integrating wellness into your home are far-reaching. With a pool house designed for relaxation, you’ll have a dedicated space to unwind after a busy day, keeping stress at bay and supporting both physical and mental health. Having a space at home where you can focus on your fitness and wellbeing ensures that you’re not only more productive but also happier and healthier.

A NEW YEAR, A NEW YOU

The New Year is the perfect time to embrace transformation. For those looking to create lasting change, an indoor pool can provide the foundation for the years ahead. Whether you want to pursue fitness goals, spend more time with your family or invest in your well-being, an indoor pool offers an unparalleled experience.

Celebrating 45 Years of Crafting Timeless Designs at EMERSON INTERIORS

AThe Story of Emerson Interiors: Crafting Excellence for Over Four

Decades

At Emerson Interiors, we’ve spent over 45 years transforming spaces with bespoke furniture and innovative design solutions. Our journey began with a vision: to break free from the constraints of traditional furniture-making and create truly personalized interiors. For those unfamiliar with us, here’s a look at how we were founded and how we became the trusted name we are today.

In 1976, Roy Antino completed his cabinet-making apprenticeship, refining his skills and developing a deep appreciation for fine craftsmanship. However, as Roy entered the professional furniture-making world, he quickly realized the limitations of the materials and design options available. The industry was dominated by mass-produced pieces, offering little room for customization or innovation.

“Thank you for making the last 45 years not just a milestone, but a celebration of creativity, passion, and lasting partnerships”

s we welcome 2025, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had over the last 45 years. What began as a small design studio has grown into a bespoke design company that has had the privilege of shaping countless spaces and experiences for our amazing clients. None of this would have been possible without your unwavering support and trust in our vision.

We are deeply grateful to each and every one of you who has been part of this journey, whether from the very beginning or more recently. It’s your collaboration, your ideas, and your belief in our craft that has allowed us to do what we love every single day. Here’s to continuing to create timeless, personalized designs that inspire and elevate your world.

Thank you for making the last 45 years not just a milestone, but a celebration of creativity, passion, and lasting partnerships. We’re excited for what’s to come—and even more excited to continue working alongside you in this next chapter.

Determined to challenge these constraints, Roy took bold action. In 1976, he opened a small workshop in Cranham, where he dedicated years experimenting with materials, construction techniques, and design concepts. He sourced unique timbers, explored new finishes, and pushed the boundaries of traditional furnituremaking. This period of intense growth and innovation laid the foundation for the company.

By 1979, Roy expanded his operations and opened a showroom in Emerson Park, marking the official founding of Emerson Interiors. The showroom reflected Roy’s vision: a space where clients could experience the artistry of custom-made furniture and explore a world of design possibilities. Emerson Interiors remains a family-owned and operated business, with Roy’s son, Oliver, joining the company at just 16 years old. Working alongside his father, Oliver has been designing, manufacturing and fitting furniture, furthering the legacy of quality and

craftsmanship. As demand for their bespoke designs grew, the company moved to a larger facility in 1993, where we continue to operate today, maintaining the high standards that define our brand.

Operation at Emerson Interiors:

The process begins with an experienced designer visiting your home for a free design consultation, ensuring a personalized and thoughtful approach. Afterward, the designer produces detailed designs and 3D renders, bringing your vision to life. A final survey is then conducted to ensure every detail is accounted for, and operations run smoothly. Whether you’re opting for supply-only, coordinating trade work, or managing building projects, we can arrange as much or as little as you require, making the entire journey seamless. Our in-house fitters, who are each involved in the manufacturing process, take immense pride in their work. Greenaway Architecture’s Vision for Human-Centric Design SUSTAINABLE SPACES

In a world where architecture is increasingly shaped by a desire to reconnect with nature and foster well-being, Greenaway Architecture stands out as a beacon of sustainable, humancentric design. With a reputation for balancing practicality and aesthetic elegance, this contemporary UK practice has gained acclaim for its thoughtful approach to creating spaces that not only serve their purpose but enhance the lives of those who inhabit them.

At the core of Greenaway Architecture’s ethos is a simple yet profound belief that good design is about more than just function and aesthetics, it’s about creating a harmonious connection between people and their environment. The firm’s portfolio, which spans new builds, conversions, and listed building extensions, demonstrates this philosophy. Each project is meticulously tailored to its unique context, whether it’s a historical site or a modern residential space, ensuring that the designs resonate with both the location and the people who will call them home.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Greenaway Architecture’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every project through the integration of energy-efficient strategies—including

solar panels, air source heat pumps, renewable materials, and green roofs—ensuring that environmental responsibility is embedded into the designs from the outset.

Founding Director, Duncan Greenaway: “With each building, the practice is determined to reduce its ecological footprint, combining innovative energy solutions with natural ventilation, optimal building orientation, and the intelligent use of materials. Our sustainability drive isn’t just about reducing energy bills or improving building performance; it’s about fostering a future where architecture not only serves its purpose but actively contributes to the health of the planet. We hope our work is an example of how the built environment can play a key role in addressing pressing global challenges, whilst ensuring spaces that are comfortable, beautiful and timeless.”

Projects that Showcase Versatility

The firm’s contemporary country house adjacent to a 16th-century farmhouse and medieval church, located on the edge of a village and conservation area is an example of their dynamic response to client brief and site. Designed specifically for a client with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), the fivebedroom home is a masterclass in thoughtful design that blends accessibility with aesthetic beauty. The open layout and expansive glazing

allow the inhabitants to enjoy uninterrupted views of the surrounding fields and gardens, whether they’re standing, sitting, or lying down. Energy-efficient systems have been integrated to ensure that the home not only meets the needs of its inhabitants but also minimises its environmental impact.

This project has earned multiple accolades, including the Home of the Year Best Future Facing Home and The Reader’s Choice Award at the Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards. It was also shortlisted for both the 2024 RIBA Awards and the 2024 Building Magazine Awards, solidifying Greenaway Architecture’s status as a forward-thinking practice dedicated to innovative, humane design.

Another striking example of the firm’s versatility is the award-winning contemporary extension to a 15th-century thatched cottage adjacent to the historic Farleigh Hungerford Castle near Bath. Here, Greenaway Architecture masterfully blends the old with the new, reimagining the flow, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of the cottage while respecting its historic character. The extension is a bold yet sensitive addition, enclosing a cold, solid stone north-west wall that reduces thermal losses and enhances comfort, while a sedum roof improves insulation and supports biodiversity. Ultrathin frames and glass-to-glass corners create a seamless connection between the inside and out, with transparent surfaces reflecting the surrounding landscape in a subtle dance of light and shadow.

This contemporary glass extension has garnered praise for its ability to breathe new life into a centuries-old structure. The Sunday Times hailed it as “a thing of beauty,” describing it as a perfect solution to the “age-old conundrum” of bringing light and space into a dark, cramped thatched cottage. It went on to win The British Home Awards Home Extension of the Year, further cementing Greenaway Architecture’s reputation for transformative design.

Redefining Contemporary Design

With each project, Greenaway Architecture continues to redefine what is possible in contemporary design. By placing sustainability, functionality, and human comfort at the heart of its work, the firm not only creates spaces that elevate the lives of their occupants but also promotes a broader dialogue about the role of architecture in shaping a more sustainable and harmonious future.

As Greenaway Architecture pushes the boundaries of innovation and responsible design, it remains committed to its core principles: that architecture should inspire, enhance, and endure. And in a world where the need for environmentally conscious, people-first design has never been greater.

SUSTAINABLE STEEL

Surrey-based Clement Windows Group manufactures an innovative range of steel windows, doors and screens for both private residences and commercial projects.

Popular for their contemporary, industrial aesthetic, Clement’s slim steel frames come with a pioneering multi-point locking system for enhanced security and require very little maintenance. The inclusion of only very high quality, thermally efficient glass units, teamed with innovative steel frame design and weatherproofing result in high performing windows and doors that will reduce energy bills.

Did you know that steel is one of the most recycled materials in construction? Indeed, new steel actually requires an element of recycled steel in its production process. The process of recycling steel is very straightforward – the steel gets picked up by magnet and melted down – so there are no complicated separating procedures. Waste from the manufacture of steel building products is easily collected and separated for recycling and on the construction site steel products generate very little waste.

As it is so inherently strong, steel can be recycled infinitely without losing that innate quality, giving it a high value as a secondary raw material. At the end of its life cycle, a steel product can be recycled and made into new products that are of an equivalent standard to the original material.

The steel used in Clement Windows Group’s hot rolled steel windows, doors and screens comes from Montanstahl in Switzerland. Montanstahl is committed to sourcing its raw material at prestigious European mills that comply with high levels of recycling and where profiles in the form of hot rolled steel billets are manufactured with a very high amount of recycled scrap metal (typically around 98%).

Steel is a low maintenance material and hot dip galvanised, hot rolled type

“Hot rolled type steel windows will usually last the lifetime of the building they are installed into”

steel windows will usually last the lifetime of the building they are installed into meaning it will be a long time before they will need to be replaced and the whole steel window cycle will begin again.

Clement’s steel windows and doors are manufactured in the company’s own factories, which have achieved the Environmental Standard ISO 14001.
