FISH UNION
Rye Bay Skate, N’Duja & Clams
We use our supplier Chapmans of Rye for a lot of our day boat fish. The catch is landed and sent to us the same day. Rye bay ray wings, otherwise known as skate, is a firm favourite in our restaurant. The N’duja adds a nice level of warming spice, and the clams form their own sauce, adding an umami flavour to the dish.
Nduja (Calabrian: [n’du:ja]) is a spicy, spreadable pork sausage from the Calabria region of Italy
Ingredients: Serves 4
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
• 2 lrg or 4 med Ray Wings - available from Fish Union
• 400g Clams - available from Fish Union
• 100g N’duja sausage
• 100g Butter
• 50ml Wine
• 1/2 Bunch Parsley
• 90g of Samphire - available from Fish Union
Method
1. Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees
2. Pat the wings dry and season both sides, place in a medium pan with the fatter side of the wing pressed down. Fry gently for 6-8minutes, add 50gms of butter to the pan, turn and place into the pre-heated oven for a further 6-8 minutes.
3. Once removed from the oven, allow the wing to rest. Place a thick bottomed lidded saucepan on a high heat. In a separate bowl add the crumbled N’duja, the clams, remaining butter, wine, parsley & samphire. Add this to the saucepan, and cover with the lid for 3-5 minutes, ensuring all the clams have opened. Discard any unopened clams.
4. Place the ray ring on the plates and garnish with the clam and N’duja sauce.

Enhancing Ightham Mote A Blend of History and Modern Conservation
In the tranquil countryside of Kent, a historic gem is undergoing a transformation. Ightham Mote, with its rich history, is not only preserving its past but also embracing a sustainable future through its innovative infrastructure project and an engaging summer season of programming.
Unlocking the future at Ightham Mote
Beginning with the relocation of parking spaces, the project has progressed swiftly, now focusing on construction of a sustainable Visitor Reception and Shop building. One of the pivotal steps in this endeavour was the removal of cars from the historic Walled Garden, clearing the path for its future reinstatement.
Moreover, efforts to enrich the landscape include the planting of 700 new trees, with more in the pipeline. This initiative not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to the ecological balance of the area. Visitors are invited to participate in this noble endeavour by sponsoring a tree, fostering a sense of community stewardship.
A Summer of Selby Spies at Ightham Mote
Amidst the hustle of construction, Ightham Mote unveils its summer season of Selby Spies. Step into the shoes of Tudor spymasters, delving into the intrigues of Elizabeth I’s court and delve into the illustrious history of the Selby family, who played a pivotal role in the property’s legacy. This summer of Selby Spies offers a new exhibition and interactive experiences for families, with activities ranging from code-breaking challenges to a themed outdoor trail.
In the midst of construction and transformation, Ightham Mote remains a beacon of resilience, embracing the past while forging ahead towards a sustainable future. With each brick laid and each tree planted, it reaffirms its commitment to preserving heritage and nurturing nature for generations to come.
Further information about this ongoing infrastructure project and upcoming events is available on the Ightham Mote website.

at Canterbury Cathedral Crown and Coronation
An immersive light and sound show that brings the spectacle of the Crown Jewels and Coronations to life. Tuesday 24 – Saturday 28 September 2024
Come to Canterbury Cathedral to experience the splendour of Coronations and the Crown Jewels in this amazing new immersive light show. Crown and Coronation will bring the spectacle, significance and shared experience of Coronations to life, demonstrating the pivotal role of the Crown Jewels, part of the Royal Collection, within the ceremony. The show will feature stunning imagery spanning more than 1,000 years of history, enhanced by the magnificence of Canterbury Cathedral – host to many kings and queens throughout its incredible history - where the projections and soundscape will sweep through the amazing interiors. The Crown Jewels, the objects at the very heart of the Coronation ceremony, will be projected through detailed footage and an emotive musical score, evoking the sensation of having a private audience with the magnificent collection.
Crown and Coronation has been created by Historic Royal Palaces – the charity that cares for the Tower of London - in partnership with Luxmuralis, as part of an artistic collaboration between artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper.
Crown and Coronation launched in November 2023 with a spectacular installation within the walls of the Tower of London, just months after the world witnessed the Crown Jewels in use at a Coronation for the first time in 70 years.
The whole experience should last between 45–60 minutes, and entry timeslots are available every 15 minutes from 18:30-21:30. Tickets are £16, with children under 2 years of age admitted free of charge.

Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway
Not all heritage railways are pretty, some, like the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, were built for industrial purposes and continue to operate alongside and within industrial sites which makes for a much more interesting visit.
Originally built to serve the paper mill at Sittingbourne, the line was extended to Ridham Dock during the First World War and Kemsley Paper Mill which opened 100 years ago in 1924. The Railway has been operated by volunteers since 1970.
Trains are hauled by the first steam locomotive to be delivered to the Railway in 1905. ‘Premier’ was extensively rebuilt and back-dated into as-built condition, returning to service in 2022. It won the Heritage Railway Association’s coveted Coiley Award for Steam Locomotive Engineering 2023.
Sittingbourne Viaduct station is located five minutes walk from Sittingbourne National Rail station, which
has regular Southeastern trains from London Victoria and Highspeed from London St Pancras International, Sheerness-on-Sea, Ramsgate, Margate, Dover Priory, Canterbury East and Faversham.
By road, head for Sittingbourne Retail Park where our free car park can be found by turning left at the mini roundabout then right, behind KFC and it’s on the left.
There is step-free access from the car park to the train and accessible toilets at both stations.
The journey starts at Sittingbourne Viaduct station which is on a high embankment and used to be the exchange sidings for trains going to/from Sittingbourne paper mill. There is a steep gradient onto Milton Regis Viaduct, which is about a kilometre-long and consists of 118 spans and six bridges, then the line passes through Milton Creek Country Park, under Swale Way bridge and across the marshes to Kemsley Paper Mill, Britain’s largest paper mill.
The journey takes 15 minutes each way. There is the Footplate Café, shop, museum and museum sidings to explore at Kemsley Down.
Trains run every Wednesday in school holidays, Sundays and bank holiday Mondays until the end of September. The Railway is then closed until April apart from Santa Specials which will be running on the December weekends leading up to Christmas - book now!
For full details visit the Railway’s website at www.sklr.net or call 01795 424899.

Henhurst Farm
A spellbinding special farmhouse to fall in love with
Burwash Weald, East Sussex
Henhurst Farm in East Sussex, set like a jewel in the green pastures and woods of the High Weald National Landscape south of Royal Tunbridge Wells, is both one of the most beautiful and most beautifully-placed homes you could ever see. This breathtaking Grade II-listed property is a special, fitting subject for the cover of this magazine. Properties of this calibre are vanishingly rare on the lettings market, but, from September, Henhurst Farm will indeed be available, exclusively presented by Lettology by Alexia, the prestige lettings service founded by Alexia Hollands.
Past and present perfect
The origins of Henhurst Farm are as a farmhouse in the 15th century. As a former farm, it has a separate detached barn and cart lodge-style garage and room for ample parking. A rather more recent addition is the heated outdoor swimming pool, and an array of modernisations making Henhurst Farm a comfortable, elegant, and secluded abode.
Splendid space
Space, both indoors and out, is very much a theme of Henhurst Farm. The five bedrooms are complemented by two reception rooms, a dining
room, a study, a snug/study, and further spaces to enjoy indoors and out, most notably the outdoor pool and Summer House.
There is comfortable room to entertain company, or to simply rest and recuperate while the world hurries on its way beyond this gorgeous retreat.
Panoramic views
Henhurst Farm nestles in gentle hillside and has extensive smooth lawns , all with those memorable, panoramic views of the High Weald, accessed by a long private drive.
“Properties of this calibre are vanishingly rare on the lettings market, but, from September, Henhurst Farm will indeed be available”
Magnificent stone and timber fireplaces are encountered throughout Henhurst Farm. The rooms feature oak beams, with stone-flagged kitchen and dining room floors, leaded windows looking onto those attractive green spaces outside, and wide doors opening generously onto the airy vista. Beautiful timber floors make the property as special underfoot as it is in so many other ways. Henhurst Farm will occupy a happy place in the photo albums and memories of anyone who lives here.
Lovely location
Although Henhurst Farm is set in beautiful Sussex countryside, it is within easy reach of the cultural, dining and shopping experiences of Royal Tunbridge Wells, and of the beaches of the south coast of England. The property is situated on the outskirts of the village of Burwash, surrounded by footpaths and scenery. Burwash has an array of local amenities, sports and village hall, a primary school, and bus routes into popular local destinations. The mainline railway stations into London are situated in nearby villages of Stonegate or Etchingham and are respectively approximately 3.7 or 4.9 miles from the property.

A New Era for Cobham Hall
September 2025 will see the dawn of a new era for Cobham Hall, the renowned independent school near Gravesend, as it welcomes its first ever co-educational Year 7 cohort. Launched 60 years ago as a pioneering school for girls, in 2023 Cobham broke with tradition and opened its Sixth Form to boys.
Building on the unprecedented success of this move, and after consultation with all stakeholders, the school is delighted to announce that it will become fully coeducational from next year.
The first boy, George, joined Cobham Hall’s Sixth Form in January 2023. In September of the same year, the school recorded another first, opening its new boys’ boarding house in a wing of the 16th century manor it calls home. In February 2024, the school community elected their first ever boy to the democratically chosen Student Leadership Team, as Year 12 student, Jude, became Deputy Guardian (Deputy Head Student). With a new, larger cohort of boys set to join Year 12 this September, and the vibrant co-educational
Sixth Form going from strength to strength, Cobham believes the time is right to share its outstanding educational environment with boys from the age of 11.
“It has been a joy to see our Sixth Form boys flourish in Cobham’s unique family atmosphere,” says Head Wendy Barrett, “and we are excited now to be able to welcome our first co-ed Year 7 cohort into our supportive community.”
Set in fine historic buildings within 150 acres of Kent countryside yet only 30 minutes from central London’s buzz, Cobham is a school with a difference.
Non-selective, it offers a warm and friendly, diverse, tolerant and international environment where students feel safe to step out of their comfort zone, develop their curiosity and creativity, and to discover there is more in them than they dared believe. Skills such as creativity, confidence and communication, prized by universities and employers alike, are developed through an exclusive Perspectives Course, ensuring students emerge armed not only with outstanding academic grades but ready to take their place in our ever-changing world. The value of the programme has recently been recognised in the Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards, with Cobham being highly commended for the way in which it prepares its students for life after school.

Tips for parents with children starting secondary school
It’s a new life stage for kids and parents alike, says Claire Spreadbury.
It’s the end of an era when your child leaves primary school. Your life and support network have been intertwined within a community that’s always at the end of the phone – if not a WhatsApp message – but now big school is looming and it’s time to move on.
Some of that network moves on with you, but a lot of it won’t. And discovering the best ways to tackle secondary – and all the difficulties that can come with it – is often tricky. Arm yourself with these tips and you should breeze through.
Get them kitted out with epic new stationery
Smiggle might rule the school at primary, but once they’re 11, Stabilo pens and highlighters are top of the lust list, and Paperchase becomes your go-to. Pencil cases should be sleek and cool, and funky organisers and pads make the whole experience feel fresh.
Label everything
Once they’re starting secondary, everything seems to cost quite a bit more – the fancy stationery, the school bag, the uniform. To avoid pouring all that money down the drain, be sure to label everything, so you can claim it back if (when) it gets misplaced. You can buy name stamps which don’t wash out, stickers which genuinely stay put or even grab a good old Sharpie and write on the labels.
Deck them out in cool shoes
When it comes to shoe buying on a budget shop online. And if they’re picky, the likes of Next and
Very let you order several pairs at once, so you can try them all on, return the ones you don’t want and only pay for the ones you do. Oh, and try Kickers. All the cool kids are in them.
Get the tech set-up right
We’ve all learned the hard way that homeschooling on shared tech is somewhat problematic. The good news, however, is live lessons are a breeze at secondary school, especially if they have their own computer. The Honor MagicBook 14 is ultra light and fast with an all-day battery and fast charging, all while minimising blue light by 50%. Google Chromebooks are also a dream, especially as most schools use Google Classroom.
Get to know other parents
When your child makes new friends, it’s much harder to get to know their parents. Lots of kids make their own way to school, and they have a phone to organise their own socials. This can feel a little bit worrying when your son or daughter is talking about going to a sleepover and you’ve never even met the child whose house they are staying at, let alone their mum or dad. Undoubtedly, this will get harder. You will be an embarrassing and interfering parent, so before they reach the Kevin The Teenager stage, try to get parents’ numbers, invite kids to your house, ask their mum or dad in when they come to pick them up – it can really help to reassure you.
Label everything, so you can claim it back if (when) it gets misplaced
Choosing the Best Educational Support
In today’s competitive educational landscape, parents face the challenge of selecting the best support to enhance their children’s academic success. The choice often boils down to traditional private 1:1 tuition or innovative learning centres like NumberWorks’nWords.
NumberWorks’nWords provides English and maths tuition for students aged 5-16, aligning with school curricula while personalising learning to individual needs. They offer free assessments to identify gaps, creating tailored learning programs. This blend of computer-based and traditional methods supports students of all abilities, ensuring comprehensive academic support.
A standout feature of NumberWorks’nWords is its adaptive software, customising lessons in real-time to each student’s needs. This continuous adjustment ensures optimal learning, with immediate feedback allowing tutors to modify strategies promptly, keeping students on track.
Tutors at NumberWorks’nWords are trained to deliver education aligned with the national curriculum, ensuring consistent quality. This structured approach provides a clear roadmap for student progress, often more reliable than the results from private tutors. Additionally, tutors adapt their instruction to each child’s learning

style, making complex concepts understandable and fostering a positive attitude towards learning. This builds confidence, enhancing both academic performance and overall attitudes towards education.
Learning at NumberWorks’nWords is designed to be fun and engaging, using interactive tools and resources. Gamified elements make learning enjoyable and encourage peer interaction, creating a dynamic and social educational experience compared to the often solitary nature of private 1:1 tuition. Continuous monitoring and feedback ensure that students’ progress is meticulously tracked. The rewards system celebrates milestones, motivating students to excel through positive reinforcement.
NumberWorks’nWords offers focused tuition for students needing extra support, advanced learning, or exam preparation. Tutors provide targeted lessons to reduce stress and boost confidence, with intensive holiday programmes. Students also set personal goals, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation. This goal-oriented approach ensures relevant and engaging learning, promoting sustained academic success.
Choosing between private 1:1 tuition and NumberWorks’nWords depends on your child’s specific needs. NumberWorks’nWords offers a comprehensive, adaptive learning solution with a proven 40-year track record. Its engaging environment, consistent quality, and continuous progress monitoring make it a superior option for building academic success and confidence.

Children at the Forefront
Judge & Priestley Solicitors is proud to announce the launch of our new Children & Cross Border Disputes Department within the Family Law division, effective from 1 August. This new department will be spearheaded by esteemed J&P Partner, Maria Conesa Gonzalez, and will include Solicitor Megan Porter.
The Children & Cross Border Disputes Department will focus on two specialised areas of Family Law:
1. Complex Children Matters: This encompasses highly contentious cases that often involve serious allegations such as domestic violence between parties, abuse towards children including sexual abuse, and parental alienation. The department will also handle cases involving the local authority, special guardianship, and other intricate issues that may arise in family law.
2. Cross-Border Disputes: This area of specialisation will address jurisdictional disputes, applications under the inherent jurisdiction, leave to remove applications, child abduction, wardship, and the enforcement of foreign orders.
In addition to these specialised areas, the department will continue to manage more straightforward Children Act matters. This includes child arrangements orders, prohibited steps orders, specific issues, parental responsibility, and declarations of parentage.
Maria Conesa Gonzalez, who will lead the new department, brings extensive experience and a
deep understanding of the complexities involved in children and cross-border disputes. Her expertise, coupled with the fresh perspective of Megan Porter, will ensure that our clients receive the highest standard of legal support and representation.
“We are excited to launch this new department and expand our services within the Family Law sector,” said Maria Conesa Gonzalez. “Our goal is to provide dedicated and specialised legal assistance to families facing complex and cross-border issues, ensuring that the best interests of the children are always at the forefront.”

Happy Third Bromley Buzz-versary!
The Bromley Buzz podcast, which talks about everything positive in the borough, celebrates its third anniversary in early August. A quote from episode 8 sums up why the Bromley Buzz is needed. Keith Jeremiah, then Chair of Trustees at Bromley Little Theatre, said when he and actress Alice Foster were interviewed in the theatre’s dressing room, “It is a constant sorrow to us that people come around sometimes and say, ‘I’ve lived in Bromley for forty years and I never even knew that you were here’. You think, how can that be?”
Now, with over 180 podcast episodes to listen to on Spotify, Audible, Apple Podcasts, and more, plus a website, blog, and social media, there are many positives to enjoy. The Bromley Buzz team is Darren Weale of In Tune PR, based in Orpington; Clarity Coach Zeenat Noorani, located in Sundridge; and Sarah Marsh-Collings of babel Monkey Digital Marketing, based in Bexley. Sarah came up with the ‘Bromley Buzz’ name.
The team has interviewed well over 200 people from across the borough. Many of them are involved in or appear at our arts venues, from comedian Sara Barron at Three Hounds Beer in Beckenham (episode 66), to actor Adam Woodyat at the Churchill Theatre (episode 48), and to the artistic

team at the Bridge House Theatre in Penge, Luke Adamson and Joseph Lindoe (episode 45). Four Members of Parliament and four Mayor’s of Bromley have experienced the Bromley Buzz microphone, often coming back for more. Yet it is as much the ‘hidden gems’ and ‘best kept secrets’ and those who haven’t had a voice in the media (sometimes children and students) who the podcasters have loved featuring the most. Check out the Down House interviews (episodes 131, 133, 134, and 135), the interview with Bromley FC Manager Andy Woodman before his two Wembley triumphs (episode 54), Bromley’s Fire Cadets (episode 127), and any number of other episodes. All are available on Spotify, Audible, Apple Podcasts, and other popular platforms.
In 2024, the podcast team started ‘Bromley BuzzUp’ monthly, free, all-sector networking events in venues across the borough, starting with Newman Flexible Workspace in the town centre. More plans are being made. The team is grateful for the support of Bromley Buzz sponsors the Shampan restaurant Group and Ian Wood Property. www.bromleybuzz.uk

How is the current economic climate affecting separating couples?
In short, it is making it more challenging for many separating couples to work out their financial settlements.
HAsset value
ere Maria James, family law solicitor at Thomas Dunton Solicitors LLP, discusses some key considerations when deciding how to separate your assets once your relationship has broken down.
It is important to base your settlement on up-to-date market values, but may be more appropriate to divide assets, rather than agreeing to offset lump sums. We highly recommended you seek valuation advice if you are not in agreement, or unsure of the value of any asset as the difference could be significant.
Mortgage rates
Mortgage borrowing capacity can be influential in agreeing the terms of a settlement, so always base any deal on current market possibilities. Also, be realistic about your affordability when budgeting for monthly mortgage payments.
Tax
Changes to taxation, including income and capital gains tax, need to be considered and reviewed.
Pension sharing
The court has powers to make pension sharing orders, which are often based on economic assumptions and market trends. The Bank
of England rates may impact the Cash Equivalent Value (CEV) of pensions. A solicitor can advise on how to approach pensions as schemes do differ.
Income needs & maintenance
When agreeing the rate of spousal maintenance, monthly budgets should be prepared, reviewed and updated. Family courts in England and Wales will calculate the rate by assessing the needs of the recipient and the payer. By reviewing and updating your monthly budgets, the agreement will be affordable in the long term.
Concerned the terms of your settlement may have changed due to the current climate?
Usually, the courts will not allow financial settlement negotiations to reopen simply for changes in the economic market. However, it may be possible to delay the payment of lump sums or restructure a deal if the impact is significant, or if the change was sizeable or unforeseen. With any ongoing maintenance order, the terms can also be adjusted if your circumstances have changed. As always, it’s beneficial to seek advice from a specialist family lawyer.
Giving you the strength to find, and implement, the right solutions for you and your family, Thomas Dunton are also here to help with: • Children law • Domestic abuse • Living together and your rights • Court of protection
Many Happy Returns!
House Of Hounds celebrates first birthday with treats and canine creativity
Ayear ago, the House Of Hounds canine store and groomers opened its doors to the dogs of Bromley and beyond.
Many eager paws have come and gone, and the thriving doggie destination is greeting its anniversary with birthday treats, special offers, and new seasonal products.
Visitors to the store in Petts Wood can browse through cooling dog coats and mats, doggie drink bottles, and ice lollipops for hot dogs! During the birthday month of August, all dogs booked in can receive a luxury blueberry facial and a party treat bag.
At a time when many dogs need cooling haircuts, one service is especially popular. ‘De-shedding’ is handy for dog types with ‘undercoats’ that heat up and can moult heavily. That includes breeds such as Beagles, French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Huskies, German Shepherds, and others.
Owner Natalie Bayram says, “We’re so happy that our first year has gone so well! We have a lot of regular customers for dog grooming, as well as people coming for products that they know have been properly researched so that they’re perfect for their dogs. Our summer range has some lovely items that dogs love, such as the floating toys for dogs who enjoy a swim.”
Natalie, her mum
Tish, Niamh, Nancy, and
Kati and now Becky can advise on all sorts of topics from the best washing, haircutting, and blow-drying for dogs, to nutrition. There are many foods to choose from, some for highly specific, medically informed diets. Advice is available about the best canine accessories, and how to make dogs comfortable in cars and at home.
From an effective fox poo shampoo to natural snacks, meals, harnesses, and accessories, there is much to discover at the House Of Hounds. The social media snapshot chair and the in-store collar disc engraving service continue to be popular. House of Hounds has its own parking space, so owners can easily drop off and pick up their dogs.
Finally, a reminder from Natalie, “Come and say ‘hello’, or give us a call on 01689 328000. We have a regularly refilled dish of free treats on the counter ready for your dog, too!”
House of Hounds is open Mon – Sat, 9.30-5pm.

Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon donned soft-hues at the Northamptonshire circuit. Here’s their F1 fashion formula. By Lara Owen
Hollywood heavyweight, Brad Pitt, and his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, have been seen on a rare public outing as they attended the British Grand Prix.
The couple were dressed in monochromatic pale hues – a nod to the colour palette of the summer: Regency pastels. Observed on the spring/summer runways of Tom Ford, JW Anderson and Michael Kors, the trend has been spurred on by costumes in the hit Netflix show, Bridgerton.
The Oscar winner, 60, wore a Burberry houndstooth bucket hat with a yellow corduroy bomber jacket, buttercup chinos, a crisp white T-shirt and a pair of canvas Converse. The A-lister topped off his outfit with some aviator shades for an effortlessly laid-back look.
Meanwhile, de Ramon, a 34-year-old jewellery executive, looked cool and chic in a Jardin Des Orangers pastel blue dress that she paired with a gold necklace, a small Birkin bag and chunky Seventies glasses – a modern take on the classic aviator.
Whilst the couple watched the race – which was won by seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton – the first trailer for Pitt’s latest film F1 debuted.
The sports action flick stars Pitt as a former Formula 1 driver who makes a comeback on the fictional team APXGP. The film has been shot during this year’s Grand Prix, beginning in March, and is co-produced by Hamilton himself, 39, under his film and TV production company Dawn Apollo Films.
Pitt’s relaxed and sunny ensemble was quite a contrast to the heavy white race suit he’s been spotted filming in. The world-renowned star’s look was comprised of both designer and high street touches, with his pink and white bucket hat costing £390 and his ecru One Star Pros £75.
Pitt was also seen making an appearance at the festival on Saturday, but de Ramon wasn’t by his side. In keeping with his weekend uniform, he wore a different Burberry bucket hat in the quintessential check print, with a quilted beige bomber and matching utility trousers.
The muted palette the couple went for mirrors their ongoing low profile relationship. First linked at a Los Angeles Bono concert in November 2022, the pair are rarely seen together, last spotted
enjoying a coffee in similar linen looks at a beach in Santa Barbara on April 29.
Perhaps couple dressing is the new power dressing – indulged in by the likes of Hailey and Justin Bieber, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker and most famously the the Beckhams – who recently recreated their iconic Antonio Berardi purple wedding looks for their 25th wedding anniversary.
If you’re inspired by the couple’s attires, going head-to-toe with a one-colour homogenous look is a sure way to channel Pitt’s casually cool style. Accessorising with statement sunglasses or an eye-catching jewellery piece – in accordance with the jewellery executive’s iconic fashion formula – elevates a plain pastel outfit into a celebrity showstopper.

Travelling Connections Café To Help Bromley Age Well
As well as providing different types of domiciliary home care services to the areas of Bromley, Orpington & Beckenham, local Radfield Home Care Directors, Simi Ghuman & Chanice Baugh joined with Quest Soul Theatre to offer a one-ofa-kind café experience. Quest, led by Mercedes Yearley, a seasoned drama facilitator, who delivers ‘Wellness through Drama,’ and they have been bringing their expertise now also to the travelling Connections Café.
The Connections Café at Community House, Bromley has been successfully running for nearly a year now come September, to help bring the local residents of Bromley together. However, the collaborators thought it would be a good idea to take the Café directly to people that are restricted due to mobility issues to their homes directly. Simi Ghuman was delighted to see the positive
response that they received from going into care homes and retirement villages to provide this free service to them. “ It is amazing to see the smiles, laughter and positivity that the Connections Café brought to the local residents who are restricted in mobility to have us come out and bring our ‘Wellness through Drama’ to them”.
We know that this service brings many advantages, some of which are:
Improved communication: Drama activities can help individuals with dementia improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Increased self-confidence: Engaging in drama can boost self-confidence and self-esteem for individuals with dementia.
Enhanced cognitive function: Drama activities stimulate cognitive functions such as memory, attention, problem-solving, and creativity.
Social interaction: Participating in drama activities encourages social interaction and engagement with others.
Sense of purpose and enjoyment: Drama activities offer individuals with dementia a sense of purpose and enjoyment.

Summer of Interiors: 2024
“Whispering Luxury focuses on high-quality, designer icons that are crafted to last a lifetime”
With summer reaching its peak, our minds are turning turn to thoughts of out-of-office messages, feeling some sun on our faces, and finally finding time to wind down.
Focus lands on our indoor and outdoor spaces and how we can indulge in, or escape, the heat.
As the world of interior design continues to evolve and progress, the term ‘trend’ gets thrown around a lot. While we’re not focused on fleeting TikTok-esque crazes with cryptic names, it’s evident that the design zeitgeist and the broader cultural atmosphere, coupled with our individual style and personal history, does gently influence our design choices. These elements serve as our creative compass, empowering us to authentically express ourselves in our homes, and make living that bit more delightful.
For 2024 so-far, the general theme has been... no theme. As recent design shows Salone del Mobile and 3daysofdesign disappear into the distance, new shapes, sizes, colours, tones, textures and materials are ripe for the picking. Colours are fusing in new and
interesting ways, contours are getting more audacious, influences range the plain to the pioneering, and furniture is helping us to all connect.
Dive into our summer interiors report 2024, where there’s something for everyone, the rulebook is relaxed and it’s all about doing what makes you feel good and showing who you are. So, what’ll it be?
WHISPERING LUXE:
Whispering Luxury focuses on high-quality, designer icons that are crafted to last a lifetime, and rooms should still be places that feel beautiful but not overdone, while we’re adding in the occasional statement object, conversationprompting pieces of design to show off our personality and taste in a way that elevates the everyday, as well as being elegant.
It zooms in on excellence, timelessness, refinement, and careful selection, but with a dash of fun and personality mixed in. More characterful, less austere. A way to live with both chic-ness and joy.
COLOSSAL CURVES:
We’re still stuck on curves – and we’re not sorry. They’re just more soul-enriching and soothing than harsh and sharp am-I-going-to-bump-myself-onthat angles and lines.
Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen curves move through the home, first on upholstered pieces then in accessories and smaller items until the curved hard furniture movement came last year. As our homes get ever comfier and more comforting, curves have become bigger, bolder, braver and better than before. And it feels good.
This all goes hand-in-hand with the contemporary penchant for ‘seating systems,’ seats and sofas that extend and lengthen to create multi-person seating islands which provide endless seating arrangement options in a litany of shapes.
SURPRISING SHADES:
It works, it really does, the pop of that-doesn’tmatch brightness smiling out from a space putting a grin on faces too. Moving forward, we’re liberating, loosening up and getting ready to experiment. It’s time for ‘Unexpected Colour’ to enter the home, a zing of vividity where there’s no business being one. Be it lemon yellow, sage green or glowing magenta, the only rule is that the pigment should stand out and draw the eye.
Let’s break free from the design constraints, and dictate ourselves the colours that will take the spotlight from room to room. Showcasing a single splash of standout colour or a restrained few pieces of pigment in a space is – there’s no other word for it – fun.
TALKING POINTS:
The time of the TV as the entertainment centre du jour is over – so why should all of our furniture angle towards it? Let’s shake off that convention and make rooms more about people again, about talking and contemplating. About hosting and games and drinks and snacks and generally connecting. Try to put that phone down for a moment. Sounds good doesn’t it?
Decorating-wise, it’s really quite simple. Some kind of vague circle formation is key, do bear in mind the other beautiful things to enjoy – window views or artworks or fireplaces – but seating should be primarily focused on the most important thing in the room: other people.
PAPER FOLDS:
Paper-inspired forms are seeing a rise in 2D-esque experimental approaches to furniture construction, from Ron Arad’s sculptural One Page chair and footstool for Moroso which was conceived when considering the curves of a single piece of paper, to Tiziano Guardini and Luigi Ciuffreda’s Narinari chair for B&B Italia: back and seat seemingly folding together origami-like. Meanwhile Lema’s Blanca armchair by Roberto Lazzeroni appears to be composed of shapely cut out pieces, leaving a gaping recess in the back, while Gallotti & Radice’s H2O chair by Studiopepe is decorated with a circle cut out from its backrest, and the brand’s Selce-T table – also by Studiopepe –comprises of cut-and-stick-style fragmented shapes. chaplins.co.uk

Realise the potential of your outdoor spaces
“Any outdoor space can be made special. Any outdoor space can be made ‘green’”, says Luke Richards, Owner-Director of Terra Firma Landscapes, a company that has been transforming London’s gardens for almost 40 years. “We can transform spaces as small as a window box or as large as a football pitch, and beyond! Pocket parks or suburban and city gardens can all provide their owners with a relaxing refuge and an enticing escape.
We understand the unique constraints and challenges of smaller spaces and have a wealth of solutions, including creating terracing, recesses, and sunken areas. These sculpt the illusion of more space through height, depth, and a varied perspective. Then we can add flowers and shrubs for contrast, colour and texture. This approach works just as well for commercial premises if they have borders, lawns, car parks or other spaces ready to be transformed. If you own a business, why not enhance your local area and help your staff and passers-by to see and enjoy a new oasis instead of bare tarmac or plain grass?
such as gardens can have a ‘wow factor’ as much as any evening dress, well-tailored suit, or bespoke artwork. One striking example is Victorian tiling. Known as renowned builders and engineers, the Victorians created long-lasting, beautifully patterned and coloured tiling installations that made many homes memorable. Today, we honour their craft as it lives and breathes in the capable hands of our craftsmen who are specialists in the design and fitting of Victorian floor tiles and contemporary geometric designs. We have many years of experience in the repair and care of traditional Victorian black and white path tiles and in the myriad of Victorian mosaic tile schemes.”
“We can transform spaces as small as a window box or as large as a football pitch, and beyond!”
“Admittedly, we have never been called out to plant up a single window box, but perhaps we might! Our pleasure comes from our ability to unlock the potential of any outdoor space and seeing the reaction of our clients, as they understand the joy that transformation can give them.
“To take another example, people love a ‘wow factor’, having something special to them that feels unique and makes them stand out. Outdoor spaces
Terra Firma Landscapes offer a full Victorian tiling design, installation, and restoration service with our supply partner, London Mosaic. They can source new and reclaimed tiles, including architectural tiles, encaustic tiles (where the pattern is inlaid into the tile), geometric tiles, heritage tiles and micro mosaic tiles, along with additional period accessories such as daisy grates, path edging, steps and York stone paving. They also provide contemporary options such as porcelain paving.

August in the Garden: Embrace the Beauty of the Season
August has arrived, rather quickly we think! Whether you’re exploring the great outdoors or hosting the vibrant garden parties, now is the time to enjoy it all! With long, warm, sunlit days finally here, kids off school, and lots of summer plans, we hope you make the most of every moment. Has the weather turned? Better late than never!
July brought us a mixed bag of weather— blazing hot days, heavy rain, and cool evenings all within the span of a few weeks. It’s hard to know whether to wear shorts or a raincoat! The long-range forecast suggests August will continue this trend, with prolonged hot spells interspersed with a few showers and cooler days. (But don’t hold us to it).
Gardening Tips
1. Enhance Your Borders: As the season progresses, borders can start to look tired. Give your garden a boost with late-flowering perennials such as Asters, Rudbeckias, Heleniums, Helianthus, Sedums, Crocosmia, Salvia, Verbena, Echinacea, Coreopsis, and Anemones. These vibrant blooms will add colour and life to your garden.
“You’ve worked hard to create a beautiful space, and now is the time to savour every moment in it”
Prior to July, the spring and early summer months, everything was ahead of schedule! We’ve seen Daffodils, Bluebells, Rhododendrons, and Camellias blooming 3 to 4 weeks early, a testament to the unpredictable weather. Despite these challenges, our gardens have thrived, showing nature’s true resilience and beauty.
2. Lightly trim Hebes and Lavenders after flowering. Remove flower heads to foster new growth, keeping them neat and healthy.
3. Encourage Wildlife: To foster a wildlife-friendly garden, allow some seed heads, berries, and hips to develop. These provide vital food sources for birds and other wildlife as they prepare for the coming colder months.
4. Trim Evergreen Hedges & Shrubs: Give your evergreen hedges and shrubs their final trim of the year. This includes Euonymus, Aucuba, Elaeagnus, Osmanthus, Photinia, Pittosporum, Ilex, Taxus, Prunus Laurocerasus, and Prunus Lusitanica.
The most important thing to do this month is to sit back with a cup of tea or a well-earned glass of something special and enjoy all the fruits of your labour. You’ve worked hard to create a beautiful space, and now is the time to savour every moment in it Here’s to a wonderful August. Happy gardening!

Lesley added: “Grout is an unsung hero when it comes to bathroom design. So often we stick with white or black but even experimenting with soft shades, such as beige, will transform the look and feel of the room, bringing warmth and interest.”
The Chloe Lozenge collection is available in five finishes: White Matt, Teal Matt, White Gloss, Sand Matt and Blush Matt. The collection is also available in a metro shape, measuring 7.5cm x 30cm, which is available in the same finishes as its lozenge counterpart. bakedtiles.co.uk
Utilising shape and choosing contrasting grout can add detail without overwhelming the space, according to Lesley Taylor, interior designer and founder of The Baked Tile Company.
A recent scheme designed and completed by The Baked Tile Company’s teams pairs a curved matt white tile with an earthy beige grout to bring warmth and style to a family bathroom.
Lesley said: “Bathrooms should be a sanctuary, a haven for relaxing. But homeowners can still push the boundaries of interior styling.
“Those looking for statement walls, without overpowering their bathroom, should consider lozenge-shaped tiles. Their gentle curves will bring a subtle sense of style while adding to the overall relaxing ambience of a bathroom.”
The Baked Tile Company’s Chloe Lozenge is a stunning oval-shaped tile that brings a touch of pattern with its signature curves. They can be used in both a grid formation and offset so that when combined with a contrasting grout form a
