Vote For Your Favourite Track To Be Performed Live At Classic Ibiza

Ever wondered what your favourite house tune would sound like being performed live by a 32-piece orchestra and incredible vocalists? Well, here’s your chance to find out! You can now join Classic Ibiza’s 55,000 social media followers to vote for the track you most want the Urban Soul Orchestra to play at Hatfield House on Saturday 17 August. The five most-popular tracks will be added to this summer’s orchestral set of over 40 dance anthems.

Classic Ibiza’s Lisa Ward comments: “Choosing the tracks to be reinvented and performed live by Stephen Hussey’s Urban Soul Orchestra every summer is one of the highlights of organising Classic Ibiza. We just love sharing the fun with our amazing Hatfield audience.”

From the suggestions posted on Classic Ibiza’s social channels, a shortlist of 10 tracks will be published on Good Friday (29 March), with a final round of audience voting open until Easter Monday (31 March). The five winning tracks will then be announced on Monday 8 April.

The general rule at Classic Ibiza is that the BPM goes up as the sun goes down. The evening starts at 5pm with a vibe straight from one of Ibiza’s iconic beachside bars, before building to a magical alfresco nightclub by the time the concert finishes at 10.30pm. Headlining the event is the Urban Soul Orchestra, known for working alongside dance music greats like Groove Armada, Robert Miles and Nightmares On Wax. They’ll be delving into house music’s rich catalogue with DJ Goldierocks, reinventing the most iconic tracks from the last 30 years. Along the way, highlights include a DJ set by former Pacha Ibiza resident Jose Luis and an aweinspiring laser and light show.

The International MozART Group is coming to the UK this April - and for one night only, they’re in Hertfordshire!

In order to better understand the performance and genre the MozART group has represented since 1995, it is good to start with what the gentlemen have said some years ago:

From exquisitely performed football chants, to Elton John’s Crocodile Rock and all the way through to an interesting reenactment of a Violin catching its muse cheating with a Cello, yep you read that right. The MozART Group promises beautifully played classical music with an hilarious twist, and something you have never seen before.

All four gentlemen of the MozART group are well educated instrumentalists who graduated from prestigious Academies of Music in Warsaw

and Łódz, but they decided to play classical music in a humorous way. Filip Jaślar, Michał Sikorski, Paweł Kowaluk, Bolesław Błaszczyk and former cellist and founding member Artur Renion created a worldwide unique musical cabaret, where the music, not the words are the source of joy and laughter.

The musicians of the MozART group have been playing together since 1995. At the beginning, they presented short musical jokes on Canal Plus Television and gave their first debut in 1997 at the PAKA competition of young Polish cabarets in Krakow. In the same year, they presented their first cabaret program entitled “Mozart’s still alive” and since then, they have played concerts in all of Europe, Canada, the U.S.A and Asia.

The MozART group are frequent TV guests including international galas and concerts. The quartet received prestigious prizes like the Grand Prix of the XVIII Festival of Satire and Comedy in Lidzbark, The special prize from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Poland for outstanding achievements and 15 years on stage and all three main prizes at the 10th “Festival des Artes Burlesques” in St.Etienne/France: the Grand Prix of the Jury, the Audience Award and the Press Award. THE 2024 GEMINI BOAT RACE

Welcome to one of the world’s oldest and most famous amateur sporting events.

Watched by thousands along the banks of the River Thames and by millions more on TV around the world, The Boat Race is the world’s most famous rowing race, and one of the biggest free sporting events in London. 2024 will see the 169th Men’s Boat Race and the 78th Women’s Boat Race.

The first ever race took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames, a challenge between old school friends. The Women’s Boat Race first took place in 1927. The contest between two rowing crews from the UK’s two greatest universities, Oxford and Cambridge, now spans 195 years of sporting rivalry - and established itself as the epitome of amateur sport, raced by student athletes who combine academic rigour with elite physical prowess.

The prestigious Best Local Restaurant list celebrates the places that are the beating heart of communities around Britain. SWING INTO MONKEY FOREST THIS EASTER AT WHIPSNADE ZOO

Enormous new monkey habitat to open at the UK’s largest zoo Opening Friday 29 March

The UK’s largest Zoo isn’t monkeying around this Easter, as Whipsnade Zoo promises to transport visitors to the forests of southeast Asia– with the unveiling of Monkey Forest.

It will be the first time visitors to the conservation zoo will see Sulawesi crested macaques and François langurs. Visitors will meet the mischievous monkeys as they journey through Monkey Forest, as well as coming face to face with the curled-tusked Babirusa, and ‘demons of the forest’, the lowland anoa along the way.

The new macaque habitat is the largest in the UK, covering 11,500m2, equivalent to 44 tennis courts. The habitat will incorporate a woodland of over 100 trees, providing the perfect habitat for the troop to clamber around and explore.

Monkey Forest will shine a light on the troop of critically endangered Sulawesi crested macaques who are part of a conservation breeding programme for endangered species. The macaques are one of the most highly intelligent, social and promiscuous group of monkeys, hailing from rainforests on the island of Sulawesi, in Indonesia, and visitors will be able to see their cheeky grins, and observe the troop groom each other and smack their lips in greeting to one another.

As well as being highly social, the monkeys are very expressive. Whipsnade’s visitors can try the macaques’ stylish black mohawks on for size

and their hilarious facial expressions with funky face props. Those wanting to embrace their inner monkey can have a go at grooming some faux fur and look for fleas! And if the public need a rest from monkeying around, they can plant themselves on the ‘cheeky’ pink-bum themed seating area – in honour of the macaque’s iconic behind.

Monkey Forest will also introduce the public to François langurs. Swinging from tree to tree in their woodland forest, the primates, sometimes known as leaf monkeys, will often be seen foraging for snacks around their habitat. And lucky guests may even catch a glimpse of a bright orange headed baby langur, which is often closely clasped to its mother’s chest.

Along with these incredible animals Monkey Forest also offers families an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Zoo’s only drive-through habitat, the Passage through Asia – home to free-roaming deer. Children can explore the natural play trail, can they leap like a langur or perhaps balance like a monkey? Monkey Forest has a step free access path with a range of indoor and outdoor viewing areas.

The woodland forest setting provides the perfect spot for learning about the threats facing these animals which includes habitat loss due to mining; macaques and langurs being hunted for meat or traditional medicine, as well as being trapped and sold as pets.

Hertford Barns Day Nursery declared ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted

There was delight at Hertford Barns Day Nursery in Cole Green as proud parents and practitioners learnt that the setting had achieved Ofstedrated ‘Outstanding’ status, following their first inspection. An outcome achieved by only 14 percent of all English Early Years providers, the inspector praised the “exceptionally skilled” team for creating an environment where children feel “safe, secure and comfortable” and “develop a strong sense of belonging”, helping them to “persevere when they find tasks difficult” and “feel a sense of pride in their accomplishments”.

In the report, the inspector observed that staff “give the highest priority to developing children’s communication and language skills” and help to “listen and enrich their experiences by introducing new vocabulary and repeating words”, the result of which “expands the language skills of all children, including those who are less verbal”. Partnerships with families were admired by the inspector, who observed that “parents are overwhelmingly complimentary about the nursery” and “speak very highly of the relationships that staff build with their children”, as well as being offered free training masterclasses and materials to “enhance children’s care and education”, alongside “frequent updates in a variety of ways to understand their child’s development and how to help them further”.

The inspector also credited the team for “actively encouraging children to care about the natural world”, with the nursery using the countryside surroundings to their advantage with initiatives including growing herbs and vegetables and caring for lambs in the springtime. At Hertford Barns, children benefit from an award-winning eco-education, with Childbase Partnership last year being named as ‘Early Years Provider of the Year’ by Keep Britain Tidy for earning the prestigious Eco-Schools ‘Green Flag’ award in every single nursery setting, a recordbreaking sector first, which recognises exceptional environmental awareness and conservation efforts.

MAKE-UP MAKEOVER

ATikTok video showing a beauty influencer cutting open a brand new make-up sponge to reveal spots of mould has gone viral, racking up more than 18m views.

Beauty influencer Kaitlyn Son, aka mycorneroftheuniverse, sliced the bright-pink teardrop-shaped blender into three pieces and found there was black mould speckled throughout.

Viewers were horrified that even an unused sponge could be so dirty, with many commenting under the video saying they’ve had their blenders for years and wondering if it’s time to get a new one.

Unfortunately, a mouldy beauty sponge isn’t the only health risk that could be hiding in your make-up bag.

We asked medical experts to explain everything you need to know about keeping your cosmetics –and your face – clean…

EYE MAKE-UP

“Eye make-up is probably the most important part of your make-up bag to maintain good hygiene, due to the delicate tissues around the eyes making it easier for pathogens to cause infections and acting as a direct entry point,” says Dr Hana Patel, GP and women’s health specialist at Superdrug Online Doctor.

Liquid products such as mascara and eyeliner tend to be more of a problem than things like eyeshadow.

“Mascara and eyeliner tubes create a dark and moist environment, which is conducive to the growth of bacteria and harmful microorganisms,”

Patel says.

“To minimise these risks, it is recommended to replace these products every three to six months, and avoid pumping the wand, as this introduces air and can lead to contamination.”

And never share eye make-up products: “There is a much higher chance of transmitting infections from one person to another. If you notice any signs of irritation, redness, or itching, discontinue use immediately.”

BASE PRODUCTS

“Not practising good hygiene with foundation, powders, bronzers and blushes can result in skin irritation and acne through transferred bacteria entering and clogging your pores,” says Patel.

In addition, make-up brushes or blenders used to apply base products can be a magnet for bacteria.

“Brushes collect all sorts of undesirable debris, including your make-up product, dirt and oil,” says Dr Miriam Adebibe, aesthetic doctor and founder of Dr Miriam A Skin Clinic.

“Liquid products such as mascara and eyeliner tend to be more of a problem than things like eyeshadow”

“This is a great breeding ground for bacteria and viruses, which can cause acne breakouts, skin irritation, and introduce infection where the skin barrier has broken down for any reason.”

Dr Simon Theobalds, GP at Pall Mall Medical recommends washing your make-up brushes at least once a week: “You can use a gentle, antibacterial soap or a specialised brush cleanser for this purpose. It’s vital to ensure that your brushes and beauty blenders dry completely between uses, as damp tools create a breeding ground for bacteria.”

After allowing your tools to air-dry thoroughly, store them in a clean and dry environment, he continues: “Avoid leaving them in humid areas, as moisture encourages bacterial growth. Consider using breathable containers or brush holders.”

Whether you use a blender, a brush or your fingers to apply products, Theobalds says: “Always wash your hands before applying make-up to prevent transferring dirt and bacteria onto your face and make-up tools.”

LIPSTICK AND GLOSS

Swiping lipstick or balm directly from the bullet onto your lips may be the most convenient application method, but it’s not the most hygienic.

“It’s best to use clean lip brushes or disposable applicators instead of applying directly from the product packaging – this prevents the transfer of bacteria from your lips back into the product,” Theobalds says.

Adebibe agrees: “Applying lip balm with your finger can transfer dirt and bacteria into your balm and onto your lips. Make sure to wash your hands before applying to avoid this.”

Never share lip products, Theobalds warns: “Especially with individuals with compromised immune systems, as this increases the risk of spreading infections,” such as herpes simplex,

which can cause cold sores.

“It’s also important to discard any lip products that have changed in texture, smell, or colour.”

Don’t forget to include lip brushes when doing your weekly wash, he adds: “Use a mild, antibacterial soap or brush cleanser. Make sure your brushes are thoroughly dry before using them to prevent the growth of bacteria.”

MAKE-UP BAG

“Make-up bags will naturally accumulate bacteria over time, especially if make-up products spill or if brushes and applicators are not cleaned regularly,” Patel says.

“Bacterial growth in the bag increases the risk of skin infections and irritations when using the stored products.”

Nasties can transfer from one product to another, and if you store your make-up bag in the humid environment of a bathroom it can promote bacterial growth.

“To address this concern, it is advisable to frequently clean both the inside and outside of your make-up bag using a mild disinfectant or wipes,” Patel says.

“Use separate compartments within the bag for different types of products to prevent crosscontamination. Opt for make-up bags made of washable materials that can be easily cleaned or wiped down.”

HOW TO GET THE ‘QUIET LUXURY’ LOOK

Fads come and go, but when is a trend not a trend?

“The ‘quiet luxury’ anti-trend is an understated approach to dressing that can be perfected by styling timeless, low-key staples with minimalistic designs,” says Sheila McKain, chief product officer at Hush.

She says trophy pieces include a classic blazer, wide-leg trousers or straight-leg jeans and a crisp, white shirt. “When styled together, each of these pieces can create a multitude of everyday looks,” suggests McKain.

To ensure you get the most wear out of each item, she says to keep colours neutral and stay within a palette of brown, beige, black and white.

As far as accessories go, she says jewellery should be kept minimal with something as simple as a small hoop earring.

“My favourite outfit at the minute is a white shirt teamed with a straight-leg jean and pointed-toe kitten heel,” says Ryan. “When I wear this, I feel put together, yet effortless. I like to think of it

as ‘easy elegance’.” Whether you wear your crisp, white shirt open with a sleeveless white vest underneath, or buttoned up nonchalantly, go a size larger to make it look more expensive. Longer in the sleeve, wider on the shoulder and a little more length gives it that luxurious, designer feel.

Neutral knits

Trends heating up in 2024 ACCORDING TO UK RADIATORS

The UK’s top heating specialists, UK Radiators, might be experts at keeping the home cosy and warm, but they are also on hand to tell consumers what trends will be hot in 2024. And according to them, three will dominate the heating sector next year: Laid Back Luxe, Dark Colours and Raw Materials.
