PizzaExpress Stanmore General Manager Lucia Brinarovska, who began her career at PizzaExpress more than 15 years ago, and her 18 dedicated team members are excited to show off their remodelled pizzeria.

With plans now in full swing for Classic Ibiza’s return to Hatfield House on Saturday 17 August, over Easter the show’s 55,000 social media followers had the opportunity to choose five tracks to be performed live by Urban Soul Orchestra as part of the five hour celebration of Balearic-infused house music.
Over 5,000 votes were cast and the most popular tracks, selected from a shortlist of 10, are: Anthem (N-Joi), Dirty Cash (Money Talks) (Adventures of Stevie V, Todd Terry), Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless) (Crystal Walters), Space Cowboy (Jamiroquai, David Morales) and U Sure Do (Strike).
These tracks will join 11 other new orchestrations in a set of 40 house classics being reinvented by Urban Soul Orchestra on the evening.
Classic Ibiza’s Lisa Ward says: “These are all anthemic house tracks, with iconic vocals that lend themselves perfectly to that special Urban Soul Orchestra treatment. They also provide those spine-tingling, sing-along moments, which is part of what makes the Classic Ibiza experience so special.”
In addition to 16 new tracks this summer, the set being performed by Stephen Hussey’s Urban Soul Orchestra includes some firm Classic Ibiza favourites – some of which haven’t been performed for a number of years.
Lisa Ward adds: “Next year will mark 10 years
of Classic Ibiza, so incredibly we’ve accumulated a repertoire of over 130 tracks to choose from. We love freshening things up every year, but there are some tracks, shout out for Insomnia, that have become such firm crowd favourites that we simply could not perform them. There are also other absolute classics that we haven’t played for a while, and some of these will once again be making an appearance. I know our incredible Hertfordshire crowd is going to love what we have in store for them.”
The general rule at Classic Ibiza is that the BPM goes up as the sun goes down. The evening starts at 5pm with a vibe straight from one of Ibiza’s iconic beachside bars, before building to a magical alfresco nightclub by the time the concert finishes at 10.30pm. Headlining the event is Urban Soul Orchestra, known for working alongside dance music greats like Groove Armada, Robert Miles and Nightmares On Wax. They’ll be delving into house music’s rich catalogue with DJ Goldierocks, reinventing the most iconic tracks from the last 30 years. Along the way, highlights include a DJ set by former Pacha Ibiza resident Jose Luis and an aweinspiring laser and light show.
Demand for Classic Ibiza tickets is strong again this year, so get yours now if you don’t want to miss what promises to be a night to remember. The show is proud to be supporting Herts Young Homeless.

From Peter and Jane with Pat the dog and What to Look for in Summer to classic fairy tales like Chicken Licken and The Three Little Pigs – just one look at an iconic Ladybird book and you’re instantly transported back in time by the distinctive designs that captured the imagination and hearts of so many children.
‘The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Artists’ exhibition, opening at St Albans Museum + Gallery on 10 May, uncovers the story of the talented artists who illustrated Ladybird books and recounts the fascinating history of the little Loughborough print business which became a giant in children’s publishing.
Visitors will be greeted by a ‘Wall of Books’ showcasing just about every Ladybird book issued between 1940 and 1980 (around 500 books) and can leaf through over 200 shared books in a ‘Summer Meadow’ installation of ‘grassy’ rugs and comfortable beanbags and enjoy interactive games too.
Colourful and family-friendly, the exhibition is the brainchild of Ladybird book expert and curator, Helen Day who has spent more than 20 years collecting books and researching the company.
Launched in 2018, the exhibition has toured the UK, but it has always been Helen’s ambition to bring it home to St Albans where she was born. Helen’s parents were both teachers in St Albans, Helen went to Cunningham Hill primary school as a young child, worked in Oaklands College for many years and went on to teach English as a foreign language around the world. Helen now resides with her husband in Harpenden.
A Ladybird book chosen to feature in this exhibition specifically is Warwick The Kingmaker as it refers to the famous Battle of St Albans which took place on 22 May 1455 and traditionally marks the beginning of the Wars of the Roses in Britain.
Helen says: “I’m thrilled that the exhibition is coming home to St Albans. I’ll have a chance to show my friends, family, colleagues and students what’s been absorbing me over these years!”
Displayed in the Weston Gallery and showcasing an unparalleled collection of books, original artworks and artefacts, the evocative exhibition traces the interconnected work of the many talented illustrators and tells the Ladybird story itself over its ‘golden years’ from 1940 to 1975 and how the artists played an immeasurable role in the extraordinary success of the company in the 20th century.
Helen continues: “For many years now, I’ve been interested in the history of Ladybird books and in the artists who illustrated them. I began as a collector, but my interest soon broadened into a desire to understand better the social history of Britain that the books contain. Ladybird books illustrated many childhoods, and the Ladybird artists gave us an interpretation of the 20th century in bright colour and careful detail.
“Hundreds of books are made available for visitors to browse through and share and it’s always such a joy to watch the expressions of adults as they recall the images and the memories they stir from their childhood and of children as they discover the wonderful illustrations for the very first time.”
Visitors will be taken through different zones and themes including Nature and the
Environment, History, Fairy Tales, and Learning to Read, each exploring the story and work of different artists including photographs of the locations, families, friends and neighbours who inspired them, and looking at the moments in time they were capturing.
One artist to look out for is Martin Aitchison, who illustrated around 100 books for Ladybird from the early 1960s including the popular Peter and Jane series and many Fairy Tale books including Martin’s personal favourite commission, Gulliver’s Travels. Martin was the only Ladybird book artist Helen met in person and they became friends before he died in 2016.
Alongside the exhibition, there will be engaging activities taking place during the May half-term and summer holidays for families and adults to enjoy including Making a Model Ladybird, a Ladybird Trail and several Talks.
Catherine Newley, Audience Development Manager at St Albans Museums, says:
“It’s fantastic to bring this magical exhibition home to St Albans, where Helen would have enjoyed the books herself as a child. The iconic Ladybird covers and illustrations were central to their success, and we are delighted to host this extensive and heart-warming exhibition which is sure to evoke feelings of childhood nostalgia and times gone by.”

The conservation charity’s “History Hive” launches public call for memories and memorabilia to mark countdown to 200 years of zoo history
ZSL (Zoological Society of London)
– the conservation charity behind London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo – is launching History Hive: a public appeal for memories and artefacts to bring its 200-year history to life.
Launching exactly two years before the worldfamous institution’s bicentenary, History Hive aims to build a collection of memories – from the tangible to the intangible – to reflect the varied voices and lived experiences of everyone who has played a part in ZSL’s rich history.
ZSL is asking the public to submit everything from vintage zoo toys and historic tickets to correspondence and maps, enriching the charity’s understanding of its own history.
The objects will form part of an exhibition to celebrate the 200th in 2026 alongside fascinating artefacts from ZSL’s existing archive, which all help to tell the story of ZSL’s impact not only on animal care and conservation, but on the very fabric of London and British culture.
Notable artefacts already in the Zoos’ archive include a first edition of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, a limited-edition bear-shaped soap from the 1940’s which was produced by Cullingfords to mark the birth of baby Brumas the

polar bear at London Zoo, zookeeper uniforms from decades past, and a decorated ostrich egg, painted by an unknown artist, to mark the opening of Whipsnade Zoo in 1931.
Those with memories of ZSL and its zoos are also invited to share these as part of the charity’s Oral History Archive, which will preserve firsthand testimony and celebrate the charity’s long history of connecting people to wildlife.
The words ‘zoo’ and ‘aquarium’, now embedded in mainstream lexicon, were coined by the charity, revolutionising public interaction with wildlife. Its long-standing associations with the world’s most influential figures in wildlife science and conservation range from Charles Darwin to Sir
David Attenborough, who featured animals from London Zoo in his very first natural history documentary, The Pattern of Animals. Even fictional bear Winnie the Pooh found his origins at London Zoo, based upon a black bear named Winnie, befriended by A.A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin.
Tina Campanella, ZSL’s Bicentenary Project Manager, said, “ZSL will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2026 – a landmark milestone that is just two years away. Everyone who has had a connection to ZSL – from world-famous biologists and renowned TV broadcasters to visitors to our two conservation zoos – is as much as part of our history as we’re a part of theirs. It’s only right we celebrate our bicentenary together, so we’re excited to see what people share”.
Natasha Wakely, ZSL’s Archivist, said, “History Hive is an incredible opportunity for us to unearth the objects and material culture which bring to life our 200 years of history. We can’t wait to share the submissions alongside our fascinating archive,
which plays a critical role in preserving zoological knowledge and championing conservation action for generations to come”.
Matthew Gould, ZSL CEO, said, “2026 will mark two centuries of ZSL’s pioneering work for nature. Our work has never been more vital than it is today.
“In those two hundred years, we have evolved into a global conservation charity, but stayed true to our roots as a scientific society. We are proud of our extraordinary story, and our History Hive project will help us tell it”.
“ZSL is asking the public to submit everything from vintage zoo toys and historic tickets to correspondence and maps”
History Hive will culminate in an exhibition in 2026 – ZSL’s bicentennial year – bringing its history to the 36-acre grounds of London Zoo. Those who have contributed their stories and ephemera will be invited to the exhibition’s launch, celebrating both their role in two centuries of natural history and the start of a new century of critical conservation work. 2026 will also see the launch of a programme of interactive displays, talks and trails, vividly illustrating the story of the charity and the public support which makes its conservation work possible.
Submissions to ZSL’s History Hive can be made via zsl.org/historyhive.

The LBX is set to be a game-changer for Lexus.
The smallest Lexus yet, it is a selfcharging hybrid electric crossover that’s designed to be accessible and easy to live with, combining high quality with a casual feel. It offers much more than might be expected from a car in its class, embracing advanced technologies and making no compromise in the distinguishing Lexus qualities of luxury craftsmanship and omotenashi hospitality for everyone on board.
The driving experience is central to the LBX’s appeal and extensive efforts have been invested to ensure the constant control, comfort and confidence of the Lexus Driving Signature are delivered in a small car package.
The new powertrain, a self-charging 1.5-litre hybrid electric system, is tuned for rewarding performance, with powerful, linear acceleration from start-up. This helps deliver low-speed agility that’s well-suited to the demands of urban driving. A new bi-polar nickel-metal hydride hybrid battery provides greater responsiveness from a smaller and lighter package, while extensive measures to address road noise and vibration ensure the kind of calm and quiet on-board experience appropriate
for a premium model.
The LBX’s styling establishes a new Lexus identity with a “Resolute Look” front design that reinterprets the famous spindle grille. While the exterior dimensions are more compact than any other Lexus, the look is muscular and powerful. Inside, the emphasis is on driver-engagement with a focused driver’s cockpit based on Lexus’s tazuna concept. Inspired by a rider’s precise use of the reins to control a horse (the meaning of tazuna in Japanese), controls and information sources are arranged so that only small movements of hand and eye are required for operation, keeping the driver’s attention focused on the road. The cabin has a light, open feel with excellent visibility and an instrument panel that wraps around smoothly into the door panels.
The LBX grade line-up is designed to give owners the freedom to express their own tastes, style and character, true to Lexus’s commitment to “making luxury personal”, with a range of different styling details, colours, textures and finishes.

Did you always think you’d become a chef?
No, it really wasn’t a dream of mine as a child, although i’ve always loved watching cookery shows on TV. I’d love seeing how the chefs would put recipes together and add their own flare to a dish. It was only as a teenager in Wroclaw, Poland, that I started to find work in small restaurants and fell in love with cooking. I built my career from there, before coming to the UK in 2018 and working in further restaurants to gain experience and broaden my skillset. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazingly talented chefs since coming to the UK, who’ve inspired and taught me along the way.
What favourite dishes linger from your childhood?
Beetroot soup & Polish dumplings, made by my mum. It was always served at Christmas and rather than waking up excited for gifts, I’d wake up excited for beetroot soup. I like anything with earthy flavours and the dumplings would be stuffed with different fillings each time. I’ve actually been lucky enough to serve it to some of our guests since coming to the UK, and people are always surprised that it tastes so good.
How would you describe The Hub on Verulam?
A social space for everyone to find what they need. There’s such a variety of events and offerings going on here at any one time, I’m not sure I could ever go back to working in a traditional setting again. We get to enjoy the atmosphere whilst working in the Open Kitchen, rather than being tucked away and not seeing the guests enjoy what’s been prepared. It feels very special.
Who are your culinary heroes?
I prefer to follow up and coming Chefs now, rather than the headliners. For all the negatives of social media, the culinary community is incredible. Clare Smyth’s work is like art, she’s a big inspiration at the moment.
If I was dining at The Hub on Verulam, what should I eat?
Rope grown Cornish mussels with melted leeks & nduja, Ras el hanout spiced lamb with Israeli cous cous & the mango & buttermilk pannacotta with candied pistachios. Delicious! thehubonverulam.com
Agroup of disabled children were given a VIP experience at Watford Football Club , thanks to Alan Day Motor Group and the Barrie Wells Trust.
The youngsters, their parents, and carers were treated to match day tickets, a guided tour of the stadium, lunch, and goody bags to help remember the day.
Paul Tanner, CEO of Alan Day attended the match against Preston North End with David Walker, who is an ambassador for the Barrie Wells Trust, Des Rogers, group operations director, and sales manager Jason Sayers.
The Trust provides VIP experiences for seriously ill and disabled children to watch their favourite sports team or concert from the comfort of an executive box donated by a sponsor.
Paul Tanner, who has sales and service centres in North London’s Hampstead and New Southgate, said:” It’s great to be partnered with such a fabulous charity like the Barrie Wells Trust and I hope all the youngsters had a brilliant day out. I’m delighted to have played a part in making this special event happen.
“This Club has a special place in my heart because as a teenager I used to play at their football academy.”
The day, organised by Jason Sayers, one of the motor group’s general sales managers began when 14 children from Hertfordshire, Somerset, Surrey, Hampshire, and Bedfordshire were taken into the
Club and shown around Watford home dressing room where all the kit and boots had been laid out for the match.
Then the group were led onto the pitch side and allowed to sit in the home and away dug-outs before kick-off. They were then taken into the media area where managers and players give postmatch interviews.
Afterwards, they were gifted good bags containing signed shirts and scarfs signed by all the players and treated to lunch before settling down to watch the match from a VIP enclosure.

V&A to feature major exhibition exploring the career of leading British fashion model, Naomi Campbell
Supported By BOSS. Gallery 40, 22 June 2024 – 6 April 2025
The V&A presents its upcoming exhibition NAOMI: In Fashion, which will explore the unequalled 40-year career of fashion model and cultural icon Naomi Campbell.
A trailblazer in the field, her celebrated ability to ‘walk’ the catwalk, along with the special alchemy she creates through collaborations with every major fashion house, fashion publication and leading fashion photographers, ensure that after four decades in the fashion industry, Campbell continues to star in catwalk shows, advertising campaigns and editorial fashion shoots around the world.
Produced in collaboration with Campbell and foregrounding her voice and perspective, NAOMI: In Fashion will be the first exhibition of its kind. The exhibition will draw upon Campbell’s own extensive wardrobe of haute couture and readyto-wear ensembles from key moments in her career along with loans from designer archives and objects from the V&A’s collections. The exhibition opens with high-impact clips of Campbell on the catwalk, illustrating her legendary ‘walk’, setting the scene for the supermodel’s unparallelled 40-year career.
Highlights will include a dramatic 1989 Thierry Mugler car-inspired corset, a pink Valentino ensemble worn at the 2019 Met Gala and a pair of staggeringly high Vivienne Westwood platform shoes worn by Campbell during her famous 1993 catwalk fall. The exhibition will include around 100 looks and accessories from the best of global high fashion chronicling her 40 years in the industry.
Visitors will encounter designs by Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent and many others. In addition, fashion photography features prominently. Striking imagery by leading photographers such as Campbell Addy, Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh and Steven Meisel, will form a selection curated by Edward Enninful OBE.
The exhibition will also recognise Campbell’s mentors including prominent public figures such as Nelson Mandela, who inspired her to use her platform for social change. Campbell has advocated for equity from an early age, joining the Black Girls Coalition in 1989 and fronting the 2007 ‘black issue’ of Vogue Italia. Along
“Produced
in collaboration with Campbell and foregrounding her voice and perspective, NAOMI: In Fashion will be the first exhibition of its kind”
with Bethann Hardison and Iman, she has also campaigned for The Diversity Coalition since 2013 to champion diversity on the catwalk.
Becoming Naomi then goes back to Campbell’s childhood. Born in 1970, south-Londoner Campbell aspired to a career on stage and performed in 1980s music videos for artists including Bob Marley and Culture Club. Her life changed when, aged 15, she was approached by model agent Beth Boldt while out shopping with schoolfriends; two years later she would be on the front cover of Vogue and walking for acclaimed designers in London, Paris, Milan and New York.
Examples of Campbell’s earliest covers will also be shown, including her Vogue Paris, Patrick Demarchelier cover from August 1988 – she was the first Black model to cover the magazine.
By the early 1990s, the term ‘Supermodel’, or model turned international celebrity, was widely used directly in reference to Naomi and a small group of peers. Fashion had become mass entertainment and Campbell, though still in her teens, was at the centre of this excitement.
Campbell unwittingly created fashion history in 1993 when, smiling, she fell to the runway floor while wearing Westwood’s staggeringly high blue platforms. The original pair, with the model’s name written inside, were quickly acquired by the V&A.
Aged 17 Campbell moved to New York and threw herself into the city’s buzzing, social, fashion scene, forging enduring friendships with designers and others in the industry. Since the
early 1990s Campbell has been one of the most high-profile models in the world – and one of the most recognisable black women. The Spotlight will explore a highly publicised moment, when Campbell served a period of court ordered community service. On display is the Dolce & Gabbana gown that Campbell wore on her final day – a look she wore in response to the paparazzi capturing her arrival and departure every day throughout.
Next it will look at Naomi Campbell as an exemplar in the field, and her early collaborations with many fashion houses - connections evolving into decades-long collaborative friendships.
With over forty years of experience working with the leading names in fashion, Campbell is an archetype, whose skill and reputation as an exceptional model is indisputable.

The Red Room bar at The Connaught, in the heart of Mayfair, is a homage to extraordinary female artists - a hideaway that guests discover through a velvetcurtained doorway from the hotel’s Champagne Room. This cocooning space showcases a collection of creative works in red - by four female visionaries, from one of the most celebrated of our time to a young Vietnamese artist.
Alongside the hotel’s renowned bars including The Connaught Bar, rated the world’s best, the Red Room is an entirely different experience for guests. Inside, a collection of art that has been years in the making awaits. Perhaps the most important piece hangs over the central marble fireplace, ‘I
Another piece by Bourgeois is a rubyred hologram, from an untitled series of 8 holographic pieces from 1998. California-based photographer Trina McKillen addresses themes of beauty and ugliness, spirituality and profanity and life and death through her work.
‘Composition #8’ is the only photographical piece amongst the collection. ‘Halfway to Sunset’ dominates another wall - an oil painting by Vietnamese Ti-a Thuy Nguyen from her series Floating in the Nothingness.
The bar is designed by Bryan O’Sullivan, who continues to put his signature stamp on Maybourne drinking spots – creating the space as a ‘home within a home’ with the feel of a collector’s living room – the ultimate sanctuary in magnificent Mayfair. A cocoon-like snug in ombre scarlet allows guests to sit in convivial anonymity.
Food and drink are at the heart of The Red Room, with an impressive list overseen by Daniel Manetti, Director of Wine. The Connaught’s legendary wine cellar features over 3000 different labels and over 30,000 bottles. Rare vintages and first growths arrive by custom-crafted marble trolley – accompanied by a capsule collection of six cocktails, each inspired by the wine selection and developed in tune with the changing seasons.
A menu of charcuterie – featuring British cheeses and hand-carved hams – including veal carpaccio, Gochuchang chicken oysters and kale tempura, has been designed to complement the wine list.
The Red Room operates a no reservation policy for all-day dining and drinks.

As proud holders of the prestigious Green Flag with Distinction from Eco-Schools, children at Nursery on the Green in Redbourn are benefitting from an award-winning eco-education, which looks to set them up for the rest of their lives.
The accolade, which is the highest in the global scheme and given for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices, has been earnt by children at the setting on South Common for their continued commitment to taking care of the planet, which includes a curriculum packed full of exciting and immersive experiences.
From babies using natural and recycled materials in their sensory play and exploring sea life themed water trays to learn about the impact of ocean pollution, to older children creating habitats for garden wildlife and embarking on litter picking missions around their local area, there is something for every child from six weeks to nearly five years to enjoy.
Activities, which also include growing herbs and vegetables for talented nursery chefs to use in daily meals, as well as nature walks, bug hunts, composting and gardening initiatives, are designed to promote the development of personal, social and emotional life skills, as well as introducing the children to basic maths, science and environmental messages in preparation for school.

Independent day and boarding school, St Margaret’s, recently hosted the Hertfordshire Primary Cross-Country Championships in association with HSAA (Hertfordshire Schools Athletics Association) at its 60-acre campus in Bushey. It is the first time the school has hosted the prestigious sporting event, which is the main primary school county race in the region, also acting as a trial race for top athletes to try out to represent the county at the national championships. The event, which saw 438 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils compete and finish the course, involved four races, all spanning one mile in length.
A total of 69 schools from across Hertfordshire took part in the races, including Aldenham School, Codicote, Beechwood Park, Berkhamsted Prep and many more. The circuit, which boasted a mixture of terrains including a challenging woodland element, made the course a real test of endurance for the runners.
George Groom, Teacher of PE at St Margaret’s School spoke about the event, “The races allowed pupils to showcase their running talents competing against the very best in the county. The challenge of completing the entire course and making it to the finish line really demonstrated great perseverance and resilience amongst the pupils.”
At the end of each race, the winners were each awarded with a gold county medal, while the runners who finished second to tenth were awarded a county certificate for their fantastic achievements.
“As host, we couldn’t be prouder of the success of the event, and it was amazing to see so many young athletes take on the challenge of completing what was a rather difficult course. The highlight of the day was of course the wonderful sense of camaraderie and the team atmosphere created by all 69 schools in attendance and seeing so many proud faces at the finish line. added Mr Groom.
St Margaret’s School is an independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 to 18 years. Based in Bushey, Hertfordshire, the school is steeped in history dating back to 1749. Offering a range of flexible boarding options for both UK and international pupils from the age of 11 years, the school is set over 60 acres of beautiful grounds and places its renowned pastoral care and proven track record of academic success at the heart of its culture and ethos. With a rich programme of extracurricular activities, its pupils are encouraged to discover their talents in a caring environment that fosters a genuine enthusiasm for learning in an evolving world filled with complex challenges and exciting new possibilities.

John Lyon Sixth Form becomes co-ed from September 2025 and is now accepting applications from female pupils After proudly welcoming girls and therefore becoming co-educational in the Senior School in 2021 from Year 7 entry, and with girls moving up the Year groups and joining the School at 11+ and 13+, John Lyon is delighted to announce that their 16+ entry point to Sixth Form will also become co-ed earlier than planned and ahead of schedule due to the success of their co-ed strategy.
With pupils from their Little Lyons Nursery to Senior Year 9s already taught in a mixed setting, John Lyon’s co-ed journey has grown at a considered, measured and positive pace. To build on this success, the School has opened up 16+ Sixth Form to girls from September 2025 ahead of schedule.
Since becoming co-educational three-and-a-half years ago, a number of families have enquired and expressed interest for their daughters to join our Sixth Form. John Lyon is delighted to now make this a reality.
Mrs Rose Hardy, Head, said: “I am so very proud of the solid co-ed foundations in place, and I am now looking to build on and enhance our co-ed offering to the Sixth Form. It is a joy to see more and more girls attending our wonderful School and settling in seamlessly. We look at the cutting-edge injectable hydrogel that delivers long lasting, proven pain relief for knee osteoarthritis without surgery (1-4)
For many of the 8.5 million people in the UK living with knee osteoarthritis (OA),(5) life is hampered by constant pain, limited mobility, and difficulty with simple, everyday tasks. But there’s hope with Arthrosamid® – the first and only permanent injectable treatment that is proven to maintain a significant, long-lasting reduction in knee OA pain – even three years post treatment.(1-4) Experts are calling it a ‘game-changer.’
Sufferers delay seeking help for knee pain, assuming it’s an unavoidable part of ageing. But Arthrosamid® offers patients a new pathway. Unlike traditional treatments, it’s proven to offer respite from knee osteoarthritis with a single treatment, and without the need for surgery.(1-4)
Knee OA: common causes and treatments
Knee OA is a long-term condition where shockabsorbing cartilage is worn away, causing bones to rub together and the joint to become stiff, swollen, and painful. Despite OA being the most common type of arthritis and the fastest cause of disability worldwide,(6) the treatment area has seen minimal progression in the last 20 years. With so little known about the exact causes of knee OA, a permanent cure has yet to be discovered. Many sufferers find themselves in an ongoing cycle of treatments, such as painkillers, physiotherapy appointments and various knee joint injectables (eg steroids or hyaluronic acid). Despite providing some relief, the effects can often be relatively short-lived, leaving many fearing
that knee replacement surgery is the only longterm answer.
The emergence of Arthrosamid®, however, has been hailed by leading clinicians as an exciting, first and only injectable hydrogel that has been proven(7) to help patients with knee osteoarthritis and offers a real alternative to surgery.
What the experts say
Mr James Donaldson, an orthopaedic surgeon from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, offering the Arthrosamid® treatment, says: “I’ve treated many patients with Arthrosamid® and have seen them experience significant reductions in pain, as well as improvements in their mobility, and overall quality of life.
“In contrast to other treatments, Arthrosamid® appears to be offering patients long-lasting respite from the pain and immobility of knee osteoarthritis and, in many cases, avoiding or delaying the need for surgery.”
How does Arthrosamid® work?
Arthrosamid® is a hydrogel made up of 2.5 per cent cross-linked polyacrylamide and 97.5 per cent water. Arthrosamid® combines with the synovial tissue in the knee to form a permanent scaffold,(8) and it’s this unique characteristic that provides a significant reduction in OA pain over a longer period(1-4) — with one single treatment.(7)
Move freely, live fully
Jeanne Zivoni is a keen gardener from Hampstead and has suffered from joint issues for many years
but noticed a real improvement since being treated with Arthrosamid®. “The chronic and persistent pain in my knee was starting to get me down and I was keen to look for an alternative to pain medications. I also wanted to help ward off the need for potential knee surgery, as I was concerned about the intensive recovery period necessary to get back to full strength and fitness.
“I decided to give Arthrosamid® a chance and, following a quick procedure with minimal recovery time, I was immediately impressed by the improvements in my pain levels and uplift in overall mobility. As someone who wants to remain fit, active and pain-free for many years to come, I’m confident I made the right decision which has given me a new lease of life!”

Make-up artists share their top tips everyone over 40 needs to know. By Sam Wylie-Harris.
While we change our wardrobe in tune with the seasons, our beauty routine can get stuck in a rut.
It’s easy to do, especially if you feel comfortable with the same old products and techniques.
“One of the questions I get asked a lot about as a make-up artist, is how best to wear make-up over the age of 40,” says Carly Utting, senior artist at cosmetic company MAC.
“And truth be told, this will look differently than it did when you were 20.”
As an over-40 make-up artist and make-up wearer, Utting says she uses make-up to enhance her features to be smoother and plumper, or more defined.
“As we age, the tone of your skin changes and we tend to loose pigmentation in the lips and cheeks, so this is where I focus on when styling a make-up look for an over-40s client,” highlights Utting.
Aimee Connolly, make-up artist and founder of Sculpted by Aimee, says: “Regardless of your age, a great make-up day always starts with your skin prep.”
“Make-up will apply more seamlessly when using the right base products for your skin concerns – for all skin, hydration is key, and particularly as we age.”
Before you grab your make-up bag, Connolly says to give your skin the drink it needs with a silky-smooth serum and hydrating moisturiser.
She suggests a hydrating serum infused with the all-important, skin-boosting ingredient hyaluronic acid for lasting luminosity.
Paired with a ceramide-rich daily moisturiser, Connolly says the skin barrier will be strengthened and moisture will be locked in. “To prolong your make-up, while still keeping your skin hydrated.”
“Selecting the best foundation for my skin has been a little like finding my perfect pair of jeans!” says Utting. “I’ve trialled so many over the last couple of years, and my main advice would be to opt for a serum-like foundation, or a foundation with lots of skin caring ingredients.”
She continues: “These foundations not only add radiance and even out the skin, but they treat the skin while you’re wearing it.”
“When powdering the skin, opt for blurring, finely milled powder,” advises Utting. She suggests MAC Studio Fix Pro Set + Blur Weightless Loose Powder as a go-to for 40+ skin.
“This formula will softly blur fine lines and texture, to create a smooth, even base, particularly when applied with a soft medium-sized brush,” explains Utting.
“Packing too much powder onto fine lines can enhance them, but softly brushing powder with a brush works wonders at disguising them!”
Utting says she adores adding a creamy, radiant colour to the cheek on 40+ skin. She suggests MAC Glow Play blushers in So Natural and Blush Please for a beautiful flush of colour to the cheek.
“The formula lends itself perfectly to a skin that requires a little extra TLC, says Utting. “Bouncy and playful, it adds a luminous, healthy, youthful shine.”
Meanwhile, Connolly says Sculpted by Aimee Cream Luxe Blush in Dusty Rose is her goto shade: “It will add a natural rosy tint to the
apples of the cheeks and tip of the nose, without appearing too strong in colour.”
A lip primer will smooth out fine lines that form on your lips over time, says Utting. “Meaning when you apply your lipstick, your lips look more even and fuller.”
She says this should be followed by a lip liner in two or three shades darker than your natural lip shade. “Pushing the boundaries of your natural lip line to enhance the shape is a wonderful way of achieving a fuller pout.”
Texture wise, Utting says a soft shine on the lips enhances the shape, so she recommends glossing over the top of any lip shade. She recommends going for glosses that are super creamy and not sticky, so they stay put and add a beautiful shine.
“Long-lasting cream eye products will always be my go-to choice when creating eye make-up for 40+ clients,” says Utting. “I particularly love a soft sheen to the eyes to brighten and lift.”
While Connolly adds: “To create an eye-opening effect while maintaining a youthful appearance, opt for a natural bronze eyeshadow applied across the eyelid.”
“Enhance definition with a creamy brown kohl liner, particularly suitable for a softer defined eye.”
She suggests an eyeliner duo with a nude shade on the opposite end. “Which is ideal for brightening the waterline, instantly rejuvenating the eyes.”
Connolly adds: “Consider switching to a brown mascara, for a softer approach to volumising lashes.”
“OMG what a great gadget! This is so good, I don’t have any problems putting drops into my eyes, but felt I did miss quite a lot, so to save the product I bought it. It is splendid, tip your head back, it hits the mark every time.”
–Boots review
“I got this for my dad as he’s been diagnosed with Glaucoma and had to use eyedrops every day going forwards. He was really struggling, getting most of it down his face or his front and he was panicking that he had no one to help him every day as he lives alone. This is a really simple easy to use gadget and he was so relieved to just get on with getting them in and the drops actually going in his eye that he’s bought two more in case he loses any!”
“Always had a phobia about my eyes, so when I had to use eye drops after cataract operations I was dreading it. This dispenser is the real deal, loving this, thoroughly recommend it”
– Kevin Heslin
“ I bought this product for my dad who has to take eye drops for Macular. He really struggled to put in eye drops and as soon as he used this he couldn’t believe how easy this was and how easy it is to use. He thinks it’s a bit of a miracle! He generally struggles doing things like this but now he can do it all himself. Easy Peasy! Thank you so much for this great invention.”

This Summer promises to be packed with bright and bold vibrant colours. After what has felt like thelongest Winter ever we need to inject a massive dose of colour into our lives and the Spring/Summer 2024 fashion trends are nothing if not bright, bold and beautiful. Black however did not make the list as one of the must-have colours in your wardrobe this Summer.
The colour black is often every woman’s default, her go-to colour, the one colour she can rely on. But what if I told you that black doesn’t suit everyone. In fact if black isn’t your colour then you can expect to look tired, washed out, older, your skin tone to look dull and sallow when you are wearing it. Whilst some people think by wearing black it projects a dominance or a strong personality it can make you hide behind the colour and therefore hiding who you really are or want to be. Summer is your time to shine, now is the perfect time to invest in getting your colours done. By knowing the right colours for your skin tone, you can instantly look younger, more radiant and healthier. It also makes shopping all that more
easier, as you focus on your colour palette and no longer have to consider whether the colour suits you or not.
This Summer designers raided the pantone colour chart for pulsating primary colours, tomato red, yellow and a fresh green took centre stage. But colours will take two opposed directions: on one side towards a strong, vibrant palette, on the other towards warm bright tones. On the opposition, citrus lime, bright coral and of course colour of the season; peach.
It is a great time to add some colour into your wardrobe and use brighter colours as highlights for the darker colours that might make up your current wardrobe. It’s amazing what a red belt can do to a pair of jeans with a white top tucked in and a navy blazer over the top. Trying buying sandals in a colour that tones well with a summer dress, orange or tan sandals with a khaki dress will freshen up the dress and your style. If you are feeling brave then wearing this season’s bright colour palette in a two piece suit could crown you the most stylish guest at this year’s wedding reception. A great way to bring a little sunshine to your wardrobe is by wearing a canary yellow dress for that birthday lunch with your family, you will shine brighter than the sun.
So whilst this season is full of colour, come out of your black rut and dare to be bolder with your colour choices. It won’t just guarantee a fresher style and look but it will brighten up your daily mood!

When it comes to early starts – and spending the day under bright lights – Cat Deeley has learned a thing or two about looking and feeling her best during her 25-year TV career.
The mum-of-two (Deeley has two sons –Milo, eight, and James, five – with her husband, comedian Patrick Kielty) first found fame in the late Nineties, hosting MTV and SM:TV Live with Ant & Dec, before moving to LA and presenting entertainment show, So You Think You Can Dance?
Having moved back to London in 2020, she made her debut on ITV’s This Morning this week, alongside co-presenter Ben Shephard.
A self-confessed beauty enthusiast, Deeley, who is also an ambassador for Ella & Jo’s, is all about keeping her skin well cared for and glowing.
HERE, SHE SHARES HER SKINCARE SECRETS AND FAVOURITE FINDS…
What are your handbag essentials?
“I always like to carry the Hyaluronic Skin Mist from Ella & Jo. It’s a brilliant product that freshens up your make-up during the day, and plumps and nourishes your skin at the same time – it really gives you a glow.”
Deeley says she also carries a bottle of unisex fragrance oil called E11even (£80 for 20ml, e11evenfragrance.com).
“It’s just great for taking a moment. It’s energising, its uplifting, its grounding… all those things in one. I normally have some form of moisturising lip balm in there too,” she adds of her handbag essentials.
Including the best beauty tip she’s learned from her TV career, and why it’s all about feeling comfortable in your skin. By Sam Wylie-Harris.
What are the 3 beauty products you can’t live without?
“The Glow Up Enzyme Mask is my absolute favourite out of the entire range,” says Deeley. “It plumps up my skin, gets rid of any dry skin cells, and just makes any moisturiser that I use
“The Glow Up Enzyme Mask is my absolute favourite”
afterwards really sink in. It’s beautiful.”
“I love an eyelash curler, it’s one of my favourite things,” she adds. “It makes me look awake even when I’ve been up half the night with the boys. And some kind of mascara, probably.”
What’s the one beauty rule you swear by?
“Why cleanse once when you can cleanse twice? It’s essential for me, especially if I’ve been working, have been to an event, or if I’ve had a full face of make-up.”
Deeley says she also loves Melt The Day Away Cleansing Balm: “I put it all over my face and massage it in. You can use it on eye make-up, foundation, everything.
“Take a warm washcloth and then just take everything off. I love to use the Brighten & Glow Hydrating Exfoliating Cleanser after that, just to remove every last trace of make-up,” she adds. “And then I go into my full skincare routine.”
“I feel my most beautiful when I’m probably not at my most beautiful, but to me, I feel it”
When do you feel your most beautiful?
“I feel my most beautiful when I’m probably not at my most beautiful, but to me, I feel it,” says Deeley.
“It would be as the sun is starting to set on the beach after spending the day with my boys in the sunshine. I’ve got beachy hair, no make-up on, and my skin feels warm.
“You can smell the sunshine on your skin, and they kind of cuddle into you at the same time. That’s when I feel my best.”
What’s the best beauty tip you’ve learned throughout your TV career ?
“The best beauty tip is basically ‘less is more’. I think women look more beautiful with actually less make-up,” says Deeley.
“But that does mean you have to really take care of your skin. You have to eat a good diet, and you have to exercise and drink water.”
Deeley says she doesn’t have one specific beauty icon, but adds: “For me, it’s always when a woman
feels comfortable in her own skin. I think then she is incredibly beautiful and incredibly charismatic. When you feel good, you look good too.”
Have you had any beauty disasters?
“There are so many! I mean, I’ve had a terrible perm, I had one eyebrow, I then had two very thin eyebrows, I had really short hair that looked like a giant mushroom. I had red hair, dark hair, blonde hair – here is nothing I haven’t done,” she laughs.
“But I think that’s one of the things when I was talking about women being very comfortable in their own skin. I think you have to kind of go through that to work out what doesn’t work for you, and work out what does work for you.”

We all appreciate that quality surpasses quantity in life, which is why downsizing should be seen as an exciting opportunity to fine-tune your environment rather than a mere reduction of space. Smaller spaces are often a highly practical solution, but also a reflection of the choice to embrace a lifestyle defined by intention, purpose and refinement. Only that which is important remains. Which calls for clever curation.
For those seeking to simplify their homes – and lives – without sacrificing beauty or comfort, it’s about balance. Should it stay or should it go? To downsize with style, each element of the space needs to be carefully edited to tick the boxes of functionality, aesthetics, and self-expression.
To reduce one’s home with panache entails careful planning, thoughtful curation, and a keen eye for design (plus an open mind). Join us on
the voyage as we explore how to navigate the transition to a scaled-down home with grace, sophistication and – yes, really – joy.
Approach downsizing as a careful process of conscious curation, as opposed to a quick or thoughtless discarding of possessions. Each item to be carried forward should be useful or sentimental (a bonus point for both). It helps to visualise your stylish, functional home and view existing pieces alongside this new space. The rarely used? The long forgotten? The I-never-liked-this? Let them all go, and free yourself as well as your floor space. Stay mindful and remember the end goal – peace, practicality, beauty and refinement.
Repeat: quality not quantity, quality not quantity, quality not quantity. Let this be your modern
downsizing mantra, a starting point and a guide when you reach a fork in the road. Exquisitely designed pieces of furniture are what it’s all about here. Pieces that are timeless, forever-lasting, and well-crafted. Pieces with soul. Multifunctional furniture such as extendable dining tables, modular sofas and nesting tables offer versatility and efficiency, allowing the space to seamlessly adapt to various requirements as and when needs arise, without compromising on daily good looks.
Well-designed storage is the foundation of any home, none more so than the downsized. As spaces compact, the war against clutter can be never ending, which is why built-in solutions, shelving units and other such organisers are vital. There will be some belongings you want to conceal, and some you want proudly on display, and this is where perfectly planned storage steps in.
Throughout the process you’ll probably find that you start naturally swaying towards minimalism. That doesn’t mean moving into an all-white, empty cube, but more the dawning understanding that less really is more. Simple forms, clean lines, uncrowded spaces and a cohesive colour palette will nudge you to creating an environment that’s as serene as it is harmonious.
Amidst all of the editing and paring back, it’s essential to remember the significance of meaningful touches. Downsizing in no way means the sacrifice of individualism or authenticity. Infusing cherished pieces into your new space not only showcases your personality and life story, but the memories they evoke every time you stroll past can be a thing of pure joy. Smaller-item collections should be considered and curated rather than totally de-cluttered, they very much deserve to be on display, bringing their delightful charm and character to the forefront of your new home. chaplins.co.uk

Take a look at how we transformed this enormous living room using warm colours, reflective surfaces and eye-catching fabrics to create a luxurious oasis
People use Interior Designer’s for all kinds of reasons. Whether they’ve just moved into a house and are stuck for ideas of how to make their visions come to life, or lack the vision entirely, whether they’re selling up and want to add some quick value by dressing the rooms properly with pieces they can either keep and take with them when they move, or sell to the new purchasers, and often because they’re faced with a room they just can’t get to grips with. This beautiful project came to us with the latter of those problems.
With an absolutely enormous scale, this living room really needed some big furniture and some clever design tricks to make it the cosy family & entertaining space the family longed for. When I first walked into this room, there were three very small sofa’s in a U-shape at one end of the room and not much else. The television was on the opposite wall to the fireplace, a vast 8 meters away. The layout was the first point to address.
Every room needs a focal point, preferably a fireplace, or a piece of furniture to act as a focal point where a fireplace might go to build a vignette around. With fighting focal points and functions at opposite ends of this space, the first thing we did was to reposition the television to sit above the fireplace, immediately giving a focus from which to build around.
‘Rural living with modern touch’
Once the bones of a room are in place, the fun can start! In a room of this scale, a really large patterned fabric works really well to bring some cosiness to the scheme and to bring the walls ‘in’ to the room, a problem were not always blessed with. We shortlisted a selection of overscaled floral print fabrics from Designers Guild and let the client lead the way with her preference of these as a starting point.
From there the rest came really easily, with finding playful fabrics to use on scatter cushions and an ottoman, while keeping the furniture and the walls in a block colour to act as a base for these fun and playful accessories. The space planning is key in a room of this size, the furniture needs to be large enough for the room to function socially and feel cosseting, & large scale symmetry is key too to give balance to the overall room. If you’re unsure of how to make the best of a room in your home, we’d be delighted to help you to get the very best finish for your space. Get in touch for a free at home consultation to see what we would recommend. Here are some tips to get you started.
Scale – Be playful with large scale fabrics at the windows in order to bring the walls ‘in’ to create cosiness with a large patterned fabric for the curtains
Symmetry is Always Key – start from the focal point in the room and build out a beautiful visual from there
Fill The Room - Dress the room with as few large items as possible – Using large scale furniture and fewer pieces is more restful on the eye than lots of small pieces of furniture and accessories.
Create a Cosy Zone - Use a rug below and a central pendant light above the seating area to create an inviting and comfortable ‘zone’. This is also true in open plan living / dining areas.
Double Up – Don’t be afraid to use a coffee table next to a footstool to fill the floor space in front of the sofa’s. Doubling up comfort and practicality.

Calypso Bathrooms, leading premium British bathroom furniture brand, proudly launches its highly anticipated spring collection for 2024. Expanding upon the brand’s already extensive offerings, the launch provides design-led homeowners with an even broader selection of high-quality, trend-led bathroom furniture solutions.
The launch brings texture to the forefront of bathroom design with the introduction of the horizontally fluted Petra, and Levanto Fluted vanity collections. The launch also includes three brand new LED mirrors, Adria, Andrina, and Ostra, which play with shape, and a carefully curated array of new furniture, finishes, brassware, ceramics, and hardware, seamlessly blending traditional style with modern functionality.
Charlotte Tilby, Head of Marketing at Calypso Bathrooms, provides valuable insights into
five key trends and products from the latest collection.
The desire for spa like bathrooms has been rapidly growing in recent years with homeowners opting for natural woodgrain finishes, and gentle, rounded lines in bathroom design. This shift has also seen an increasing demand for texture in bathroom furniture such as fluted and slatted wood. Calypso’s new Petra vanity collection offers midcentury sophistication with modern elegance and is available as wall-hung vanity units in two sizes and a matching fluted Tall Wall Unit, available in Coral White, Tortona Oak, and Persian Walnut finishes. The Levanto wave-fronted vanity range also receives a modern update, now available in new layout configurations and finishes with a fluted front design that further enhances the appeal of this popular range.
Increasingly, the boundaries between bath, bed, and dressing spaces are blurring, akin to the openplan concept seen in kitchen, dining, and living areas. As such, cohesive matching furniture across the home has driven demand for a wider array of colour options and finishes in the bathroom than ever before. Think matching your three-piece en-suite to your chest of drawers or wardrobe to create a feeling of expansion and connection throughout the more restful areas of your home. Earthy greens and aquatic blues take the spotlight alongside softer cashmeres and neutrals with pink undertones. Matte finishes have also gained popularity for their tactile, light-diffusing properties, fostering a gentle ambience.
Accessories play a crucial role in transforming a space, such as strategically positioning mirrors to enhance lighting and create a more inviting
atmosphere. Modern LED mirrors have become the go-to-choice amongst homeowners, as they are fantastic at enriching bathroom spaces with soft, ambient lighting and making compact spaces seem more spacious.
Homeowners prefer lasting investments over frequent changes, focusing on durable, timeless designs. While paint and decor updates are simple, thoughtful selection of fittings is crucial, especially in less reversible areas like bathrooms. This trend involves updating traditional items with modern colours or finishes, especially in brassware, where alternatives compete with traditional chrome. These finishes subtly modernise bathrooms, even in heritage-style spaces.
There has been a notable increase in demand for ‘partial refurbs’ over full bathroom redesigns in recent times, with homeowners favouring accessible, simple, updates that cause minimal disruption and create more space in even the most compact of bathrooms. Updating the vanity, adding a mirror, or simply swapping out hardware have become popular solutions, offering a significant transformation without the need for extensive renovations. Within the launch, Calypso provide an array of spacesaving product designs that enhance style and functionality while optimising space. calypsobathrooms.co.uk

Introducing the Artisans of Devizes Spring Summer Collection a wildly artisanal range which embraces a natural yet refined aesthetic across our interior and exterior stone, porcelain, decorative and terracotta options.
Indoor Outdoor: Blending outside and interior spaces seamlessly has never been more important as clients seek to extend the living areas of their projects. Because of this, we have selected five creamy limestones in a range of seasoned and tumbled finishes that are suitable for indoor and outdoor.
Glazed Beauties: Our Eastbury and Berber glazed ceramic tile ranges now have additional colours, such as deep reds and inky blacks. Each tile has a gentle undulation that brings a reflective nature to a space as well as a soft texture.
Terracotta Warmth: We have extended our Tetbury range of terracotta tiles to include new formats such as a smaller Bejmat tile and a classic Octagon and cabochon. We also introduce the Hague exterior terracotta in a parquet format – our first terracotta tile suitable for outdoor spaces.
“Blending outside and interior spaces seamlessly has never been more important as clients seek to extend the living areas of their projects”
Plaster Effect: Our Venetian plaster effect porcelain tiles come in seven colourways and are available in a generous 60x60cm format for contemporary spaces. The colour pallet features luxurious browns, greys, and off whites. artisansofdevizes.com
