16 - 17 August 2024, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
The Surrey Hills National Landscape and Surrey Wildlife Trust are delighted to invite horse owners to attend an Equiculture workshop led by Stuart Myers. These workshops are for horse owners that are located in and around the Surrey Hills National Landscape.
Pasture management principles are similar for large or small horse properties. The main objective is improving soil health and at the same time growing the correct grasses and other pasture
species in order to reduce the feed bill, whilst maintaining good ground cover, reducing erosion and run off into waterways, reducing the worm (parasite) burden of horses and controlling weeds.
Horse owners who attend a workshop will learn all about these important subjects and much more besides, maintaining ground cover, protecting water sources, increasing biodiversity and soil health are some of the key messages.
A light lunch will be provided.
We are delivering two workshops, one based in the East of Surrey and one in the West. Please only book onto one of the workshops. surreyhills.org

TREVOR PRICE: PRINTED PERSPECTIVES
New Ashgate Gallery is delighted to present “Trevor Price: Printed Perspectives,” a captivating solo exhibition by the distinguished printmaker Trevor Price. Known for his finely detailed drypoint and engraved relief prints, as well as his impressive large-scale woodcuts, Price continues to push the boundaries of printmaking.
Trevor Price’s recent works showcase his dedication to the art of handmade and handprinted pieces. His meticulous process involves carving and scraping a 2mm polycarbonate sheet with a drypoint needle and a Dremel, resulting in prints that are both intricate and emotionally resonant. Once the ink is applied to the surface, the plate is pressed with damp paper, creating prints that invite viewers to lose themselves in detailed mark-making and abstract forms. From a distance, his prints resemble sepia-toned photographs, but up close, they reveal captivating

abstractions and intricate details. Some pieces are enhanced with stained paper, evoking a sense of antiquity and nostalgia.
About Trevor Price
Born in 1966, Trevor Price’s illustrious career includes election as a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1994 and serving as its Vice President from 2013 to 2018. His work is part of prestigious collections worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and the Guangdong Museum of Art in China. In 2020, Price completed a significant commission for China’s National Academy of Painting.
Price splits his time between his studio near Tower Bridge in London and the artist community of St. Ives in Cornwall. His artistic vision is deeply influenced by the juxtaposition of urban dynamism and coastal tranquillity. Beyond his artistic achievements, Price is also a qualified lifeguard and actively coaches children at the St. Ives Surf Life Saving Club.

experience through the evocative medium of hand-built ceramics. Su Jameson’s collection invites viewers on a profound journey, exploring narratives both unique and universal, portrayed through meticulously crafted sculptures and vessels.
Su Jameson’s creative process is a dialogue between materials and emotion, where each ceramic form embodies layers of meaning and texture. Using stoneware clays such as porcelain, black, and crank, Jameson employs slab and direct modelling techniques to create pieces that resonate with raw authenticity. Marks and textures are meticulously impressed upon the clay, fostering physical and emotional exchanges that invite contemplation and personal interpretation.
About Su Jameson
Based in Liphook, Su Jameson is known for her one-off hand-built ceramic sculptures, primarily figurative in form. Her work is deeply personal yet universally resonant, aiming to provoke thought and encourage reinterpretation. The current body of work exhibited at New Ashgate Gallery, conceived during a period of significant personal and societal change, explores themes of family dynamics, the complexities of relationships, and the delicate balance between protection and liberation.

THE DETAILS

began in April 1903 when the 5th Baron Foley chaired a meeting at the Claygate Institute in Common Lane to “consider the advisability of holding a Flower Show and Industrial Exhibition in connection with the village” to match the flower shows in Esher and Oxshott. The new rail link to Waterloo had been constructed by this time and the potential of residential development in Claygate had been realised.
The show has been held every year since 1903, except during the two world wars and two years when COVID was prevalent. An extract from the minute book in March 1915 reads, “Owing to the very strenuous times in which the Country found itself, the many calls those connected with the Show had upon their pockets, and the Sorrow in many families, it was resolved that the Show should not be held this year.”
Today, the Flower Show Committee try to make the occasion a day not only for everyone who plants, paints, bakes or makes anything to show off their achievements, but also a day to get together socially with neighbours, family and friends and be entertained throughout the afternoon. The junior section has grown in size with hundreds of individual exhibits from ages 3yrs to 16yrs. There is the classic car display, the dancing and music of various kinds performed by a variety of age-groups, the children’s races, farm animals and the dog show - and all the while there is the fun-fair with its many rides and activities.
Craftsmanship, care and choices: the Just Shutters process
There’s something unusual about working with a Just Shutters craftsman. You can sense it on their first visit to your home. It all stems from a fundamental design sensibility, and carefully understanding and interpreting what you want to achieve.
Every home has its own character and aspects, and what makes a Just Shutters installation different is the time and care taken to define what’s right for it. The shutters have to be fully functional and fitted with pinpoint accuracy – of course, that’s a given – but adding them to a room needs to make that space and ambience considerably more desirable. This is where taking the time to get it right is so important.
To that end, Just Shutters has poured great effort into creating its own range of stylish and versatile shutters for every individual customer to examine and discuss.
It doesn’t need to be a bewildering selection, and so it isn’t. But, for example, Just Shutters’ colourways include the Coastal, Urban and Country ranges – in addition to the staple and timeless Pure and Silk whites – specially developed with leading interior designers. It’s a refined palette to give everyone the ideal ‘neutrals’ to work with.
Then there’s a superbly resolved choice of louvre profiles, sizes, and tilting mechanisms that make the shutters work the way each customer wants them to. Just Shutters frames can be built to dovetail perfectly with all kinds of window apertures, whether it’s an historic building or a modern apartment.
Only once you’ve jointly decided on a final design can the making-to-measure begin. Here, again, Just Shutters is different – more thoughtful, more caring. They can’t be turned out overnight and they take time to install.
“Just Shutters has poured great effort into creating its own range of stylish and versatile shutters for every individual customer to examine and discuss”
Just Shutters regards working in its customers homes’ as a privilege, and so all of its craftsmen take extraordinary care to work quietly and tidily. They won’t be leaving until they’re absolutely certain that new shutters are as neatly and accurately installed as if they’d been built into the room originally. The lifetime guarantee can only be issued with confidence once this has been achieved.
Knowledge, professionalism, skill and an interior designer’s eye for fit, finish and functionality absolutely define the Just Shutters experience. Little wonder this great British company continues surely and steadily to grow.

Jumeirah Carlton Tower Launches NEW AFTERNOON TEA
Inspired by Highgrove House & Gardens
Jumeirah Carlton Tower is delighted to announce its new afternoon tea in concept with Highgrove House & Gardens, the iconic gardens developed by His Majesty King Charles III. Launching on 14 June the afternoon tea will bring guests a seasonal, botanically inspired experience that champions sustainability and seasonality, in a celebration of the very best of British produce.
The new offering will further elevate Jumeirah Carlton Tower award-winning ‘A Tribute to Nature’ afternoon tea, taking inspiration from the most iconic of British gardens to deliver an experimental take on the classic British tradition in a sophisticated display of flavour. Working with locally sourced, seasonal produce, the afternoon tea will explore the best ingredients available in England through a carefully curated selection of imaginative dishes that pay tribute to the rich flavours of nature.
Over four decades, His Majesty King Charles III has devoted much energy to developing Highgrove House & Gardens into the innovative space it is today, with each of the interlinked series of gardens reflecting his own personal interests and enthusiasms. Jumeirah Carlton Tower has chosen Highgrove due to an admiration of His Majesty’s passion for the earth and consistent sustainability
efforts – values which the hotel deeply respects. The carefully curated afternoon tea menu incorporates a selection of classically British savoury dishes, such as a coronation chicken sandwich in a nod to the gardens’ royal connection, before delving into a unique scone experience with four flavours of scone, including a scone served with honey crumble and thyme sour cream to represent Highgrove’s work with bees. Guests will then enjoy a selection of pastries inspired by garden ingredients, including a rosemary lavender strawberry tart adorned with decoration made from strawberry wastage, before ending with three royal-inspired cakes – a Queen Victoria sponge favoured by Queen Camilla, His Majesty’s own favourite fruit cake, and a chocolate biscuit cake inspired by the late Queen Elizabeth II’s preferred sweet treat, which was also served at the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales. Gianluca Priori, General Manager at Jumeriah Carlton Tower says: “We are incredibly excited to be launching our new and exclusive afternoon tea inspired by His Majesty King Charles III’s Highgrove House & Gardens. Using seasonal produce and true British flavours and ingredients we are looking forward to welcoming guests and visitors into the hotel to experience this marvellous offering.”
THE DETAILS
Jumeriah Carlton Tower’s new afternoon tea is available from 14 June and is priced at £75 per person. For more information and booking, please visit: jumeirah.com/carltontower

The V&A is launching a new exhibition that explore the life and career of supermodel Naomi Campbell.
With a selection of her archival pieces, the exhibit, NAOMI, goes beyond fashion, diving deeper into Campbell’s layered career, activism and cultural reach.
Open to the public from June 22, it provokes impressive, sensitive and evocative stages of
Campbell’s life.
To celebrate, here are some of those moments embodied in iconic outfits, peeling back the layers of her life in looks.
VIVIENNE WESTWOOD TARTAN SUIT
Meeting on a Los Angeles photoshoot in 1992, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss were among the founders of the Nineties supermodels. Campbell’s outfit pictured at the end of London Fashion Week perfectly encapsulated how many layers there were to come of the young model.
Against Moss’ fairly reserved monochromatic look, Campbell’s overlapping tartan suit paired with ultramarine accessories and a hot pink feather boa were emblematic of the 23-year-old’s rebellious and carefree spirit.
NEWSPAPER AND DOLLAR BILLS DRESS
From then on, there was no stripping back for Campbell. The following year she modelled a
wedding dress made entirely of newspapers and dollar bills at the Harvey Nichols and Perrier New Generation Designers Show.
Perhaps the perfect choice for the rising star who was making leaps and bounds in her career whilst having a tumultuous relationship with the press. The abundance of ruffled newspapers were symbolic of how the mainstream press disguised what the model felt was the real Naomi.
HAIR FLICK AND FRINGE
Alongside copious clothes – wigs and extensions have been a part of Campbell’s canon throughout her career. Routinely shifting her image required flexibility; thus layering extensions over wigs and intense styling contributed to bald patches.
Telling the Evening Standard in 2017, “I lost a lot of [my hair] with extensions,” she revealed, “I am more careful and do things differently.”
Campbell dismissed the idea of black hair as a political issue, noting that “everybody in the world wears wigs… I do whatever the job calls for”.
Campbell’s persevering attitude unveiled a deep insight into the model’s ambition.
FRILLS AND RUFFLES
Layering doesn’t mean covering up. In 2004, Naomi sported a sheer tiered mini dress at the Louis Vuitton party for the brand’s fall/winter collection. The bohemian ruffles and natural hair evoked a more laid-back countenance in Campbell. The neutral colour palette, eclectic accessories and sheer bodice foreshadow some of the model’s relaxed future looks.
DECONSTRUCTING HER IMAGE
The year 2017 saw Campbell taking a more structured and straightforward approach. Angularly layering suit trousers, skirts and formal lapels, this look symbolises Campbell’s ability to do it all. Integrating bold accessories in the form of fishnet tights and a bejewelled nose ring epitomised Campbell’s chameleon-like character. Whilst the layering seemed disjointed, she held it all together with her poised persona.
REMEMBERING HER ROOTS
Whilst mainly sporting simple silhouettes and muted hues, Campbell reminded the world that she is never predictable at the 2019 MET Gala. The model harked back to her feather boa frolics with
this pale pink Valentino gown – a piece featured in the coming exhibition.
Themed ‘Camp’ Campbell imbued the freedom to be oneself and bearing all through this sheerly layered look. Offering strength in the form of a bold feathered cape and fragility through lace tights, Campbell’s look was unapologetically authentic, revealing her true disposition.
SLEEK AND SIMPLE WITH DOLCE AND GABBANA
As Campbell enters her fifth decade, the model is leaning into bearing all. When walking for Dolce Gabbana FW 2024 show, she once again sported an all black outfit which experimented with textures and opacity through its use of lace, silk and mesh.
Using the most delicate of fabrics, this look evoked a vulnerability in Campbell, as the mourning veil almost disguised her face of true emotion. It seems the supermodel has become more comfortable in simple silhouettes and monochrome palettes, as she continues to reveal more of herself, whilst always leaving a protective facade: in this case, one of a mesh veil.

CYCLE TO SAVE LIVES THIS SEPTEMBER
This September, hundreds of cyclists will descend on the streets and trails of Berkshire to take on an epic cycling fundraising challenge – Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Blue Bike Ride.
On Sunday, September 8th, The Big Blue Bike Ride will see riders taking on either 40 or 65 miles, raising money to beat the most common cancer
“The Big Blue Bike Ride will see riders taking on either 40 or 65 miles, raising money to beat the most common cancer in men”
in men.
Setting off from Windsor Racecourse, those cycling 40 miles – the Classic route – will navigate the streets of the historic market town before crossing the Thames into Eton, later entering the Thames Valley and Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Those tackling the Epic – 65 miles - will explore more of the Chiltern Hills before both sets of cyclists visit Henley-on-Thames.
All cyclists can then ride, reflect and remember at the Mile for Men; a stretch at Dorney Common dedicated to all the dads, brothers, partners, grandads, sons, uncles and mates affected by prostate cancer. The fundraising peloton will then triumphantly cross the finish line back in Windsor, where cyclists can enjoy the ride’s event village.
The money raised will go towards funding vital research into lifesaving treatments for prostate cancer and providing practical support to men and their families affected by the disease, which affects one in eight men in the UK.
One of those men is Rob Abell, from Ascot. Rob completed the ride’s Epic route last year just 11 months after being successfully treated for prostate cancer – and he’s taking the ride on again this year.
“I was inspired to get back on the bike again as soon as I could, get fit, get some mates together and give something back,” he said.
“We loved the ride so much; it was such a wellorganised event, with clear signage, route maps, helpful stewards, good snack provisions and water bottle refill points along the way, and a huge sense of achievement at the end. It’s a friendly, fun and inclusive event, not a hardcore sportive, so you can enjoy it your way whilst supporting a great cause.”

The Super Surgeons of The Royal Marsden
Founded in 1851 as the world’s first hospital dedicated to the study and treatment of cancer, The Royal Marsden is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres.
Employing over 2,500 cancer specialists, the hospital sees and treats more than 60,000 NHS and private patients every year.
Many patients have been referred to The Royal Marsden from across the UK and beyond to undergo complex surgical procedures that could transform their lives.
With the recent launch of series two of the critically acclaimed documentary Super Surgeons: A Chance at Life on Channel 4, viewers were
invited behind-the-scenes to follow the journeys of patients living with rare and recurrent cancers. These patients benefit from the expertise of some of the world’s leading cancer surgeons, including Professor Vinidh Paleri, Mr Asif Chaudry, Mr Myles Smith, Mr Shahnawaz Rasheed, Professor Andy Hayes and Professor David Nicol. Granted exclusive access to The Royal Marsden hospital in Chelsea, the series follows eight patients, aged between 18 and 71, as they prepared to undergo innovative and complex surgeries. Mr Myles Smith, Consultant General Surgeon at The Royal Marsden, works in sarcoma (rare type of cancer that can affect soft tissues or bones), melanoma (skin cancer) and rare tumours. During the series we see him treating 30-year-old Lauren, who has experienced recurrent tumours since childhood.
Lauren was found to have a rare variant of sarcoma called myxoid liposarcoma (a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma that affects the limbs and torso) that Mr Smith described “as rare as hen’s teeth.”
Talking about the importance of the series Mr Smith said: “Patients who have very rare tumours often feel that they’re very much on their own. Being involved in Super Surgeons was a great

opportunity to showcase what we do and provide encouragement to people who have these very rare or difficult tumours.
“When you watch the series, you can see the capabilities we have as a hospital and that we can manage these very challenging cases and do it successfully. “Anyone with a cancer diagnosis can sometimes feel even a little bit lost, particularly if they’re younger. I hope and think it is helpful to see other people’s stories, and see some success in their treatment.”
The Royal Marsden has an integrated care model, meaning that Mr Smith, as well as his surgical colleagues featured in the series, run both an NHS and private practice ensuring all patients can benefit from his world-leading skills as well as the highest standard of treatment and care facilities.
The Royal Marsden’s private care services are available in Chelsea, Sutton in Surrey and, since April 2021, at Cavendish Square, central London.
Mr Smith added: “I think The Royal Marsden is special because we’re one of the world’s leading cancer centres.
“We have everything that you need in a cancer centre. We have integrated clinical and research teams. We are on the cutting edge of cancer. We’re collaborative. We’re innovative. We all work together.
“We are very good at adopting new techniques and technologies and generating much of this innovation ourselves. We’ve got great support and collaborations with our partner, The Institute of Cancer Research, London, and we’ve got one of the best charities available, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, who continually support us with research and treatment developments.”
One area of Mr Smith’s work involves innovations in imaging technology and how this can be used before and during an operation. The Royal Marsden is at the forefront of using imaging technology to create 3D models that can help guide complex procedures.
He explains that one area that is being researched is the development of holographic imaging and the ability to segment cross-sectional imaging of a CT scan, MRI scan, or nuclear imaging like PET scans to create 3D models that can be used to guide surgery.
Another area that is being explored is the expanded use of fluorescence. By using special
dyes that stick to specific targets, like cancer cells, surgeons can make tumours fluoresce or ‘glow’ to guide surgery.
Mr Smith said: “We want to continue to reduce the impact of surgery and try to make surgery as minimally invasive as possible.
“There’s a lot of work on precision surgery, including tools and techniques used to assist surgeons while the operation is actually taking place, whether that be creating an augmented reality, fluorescence (light) guided surgery or using AI to identify targeted areas when you’re doing robotic laparoscopic (minimally invasive surgery).
“We are never standing still and always exploring how we can improve our techniques and improve every aspect of cancer treatment and care for our patients.”

Pelvic Floor Health in your 40s
Although more and more women in their 40s are starting to talk about their pelvic floor health, it can still remain a taboo topic that some people feel embarrassed talking about. Karin Goldschmidt, Pelvic Floor Senior Physiotherapist at King Edward VII’s Hospital offers some advice on issues you may be facing.
How does your pelvic floor change in your 40s?
Pregnancy and childbirth will have put a major strain on your pelvic floor muscles, as well as menopause, peri-menopause and having an increase in body weight.
Skeletal muscle atrophy and associated weakness are inevitable as we age, and the pelvic floor muscles are no exception. Once you reach 40, you’ll lose as much as 5 percent of your muscle per decade, which can lead to pelvic floor issues.
What changes might you notice?
Common symptoms of a weakened pelvic floor or bladder dysfunction are:
• Leakage of urine when coughing, sneezing, bending, laughing or lifting weights which is called stress incontinence.
• Leaking when hurrying to the toilet, hearing running water or even when putting a key in the door when arriving home, this is called urge incontinence.
• Experiencing a dragging or aching sensation around the vagina or anus which can be due to a prolapse of the pelvic organs.
• Problems in controlling wind or bowel contents
“Pregnancy and childbirth will have put a major
strain on your pelvic floor muscles”
which often is associated with constipation due to difficulties in emptying your bowels
• Painful sex or decreased sensation due to vaginal dryness.
A perhaps less well known issue, although also common, is tightness of the pelvic floor muscles as a result from rarely relaxing them. This can lead to pelvic pain and trigger other symptoms.
How can women in their 40s protect their pelvic floor?
Staying generally healthy with consistent exercise, a varied fibrous diet and drinking lots of water are a great starting point as well as these elements:
Pelvic Floor Exercises
The NHS Squeezy app can really help you visualise and motivate you to do a routine anywhere – even on the tube!
Pelvic floor muscle exercises should include long, held squeezes as well as short, quick squeezes; ensuring that you let the muscle ‘go’ or ‘relax’ after each squeeze.
You should work the muscles until they tire and do the exercises regularly to help the muscles become stronger and more effective. Always remember to breath out as you lift the pelvic floor and breath in as your relax. Also start the lift from the anus, then the vagina and finally a gentle drawing in of the lower part of your tummy to activate your deepest of the abdominal muscles
Posture
By sitting taller and supporting your head and neck up better, your abdominal muscles can work much more efficiently, meaning your pelvic floor is not as switched off and compromised by the pressure. When standing, if your posture is poor, you can end up tilting your pelvis which will also impact how your pelvic floor muscles work. When standing with a better posture, your abdominals, bottom, pelvic floor and leg muscles are allowed to work together in synergy.
Breathing
Try not to hold your breath when doing pelvic floor exercises. As your diaphragm ( breathing muscle) moves, so should the pelvic floor. Your pelvic floor is not a rigid structure, meaning it should move up and down in synergy with our
breathing. As we breathe in, the pelvic floor moves down. As we relax, it moves back up.
The knack
Get into the habit of tighten your pelvic floor muscles the second before any activity which involves a rise in intra-abdominal pressure –coughing, sneezing, lifting, carrying, bending –even laughing sometimes!
Toileting position
Using a step or stool under your feet while on the toilet helps create a squatting position which will reduce pressure into your rectum when passing a stool. This will reduce pressure on the ligaments and muscles in this area. Ensure you always sit and relax on the toilet and not get in a habit of hovering as this does not allow your pelvic floor to relax completely while you empty your bladder.
Final advice for people looking after your pelvic floor health:
Too many women suffer from pelvic floor issues unnecessarily, often because they’re too embarrassed to seek help. However there’s no need to suffer in silence as medical professionals will have seen it all before! It’s never too late to start work on your pelvic floor for a better quality of life. A final tip - always take your time to urinate and poo, never strain!

While the designs have been sitting pretty in the concert hall, foyers and public spaces of the iconic cultural venue for over 70 years, this is the first time some pieces are available to purchase, while others haven’t been available for decades.
ANAGRAM SOFA - VITRA
Based on the premise that everyday living has evolved past being focused on – and positioned around – the television and now needs to cater to an increasing array of activities, the Anagram Sofa by Swiss design studio Panter&Tourron was born. Created for its layout to be reinvented time and time again, this is a seating system deeply imbued with adaptability.
An ‘assortment of possibilities’ rather that a static object, Anagram is made up of a handful of modules and elements that can quickly and easily respond to daily needs, or lifestyles changes: from an exercise regime, sports final or cocktail hour to a house move or family resize. Oh, it’s ready for anything.
MONOLIT CHAIR - FRITZ HANSEN
Aesthetically in line with its namesake impressive stone structure, the characterful Monolit chair by Danish designer Cecilie Manz is composed of a wrap-around back rest shell which forms a protective and embracing wall around the sitter. Its sculptural and slender profile raises majestically from the floor, creating individual capsules of personal space that are both flexible and come-and-curlup-here comfortable. Small design elements highlight its refined status, such as the linear piping around the seat
“The characterful Monolit chair by Danish designer Cecilie Manz is composed of a wrap-around back rest shell”
which has a sharp, haute-couture feel in either full grain leather or coordinating with the upholstery, as well as the option for a contrasting inner colour (the outside remains mono-toned to emphasise its statuesque silhouette) and the hardy, horseshoeshaped metal foot.
EAVE SEAMELINE SOFA - AUDO COPENHAGEN
Winding and meandering into the contemporary home of tomorrow is the Eave Seamline sectional sofa; a wave of alluring upholstered contours characterised by curves, clean lines and customisation.
Composed of architecturally-inspired concave and convex forms, it’s made up of nine pieces –from corner modules to chaise longue segments and open sections – that are waiting to be neatly fitted together and playfully slide and curl their way around a room, reacting to its specific shape and needs.
SETTLE OUTDOOR COLLECTIONMUUTO
No matter where you are, come rain or shine – nestle into Settle, the latest result of Muuto’s collaboration with Norwegian design duo Anderssen & Voll. Erasing the boundary between indoor and out, the upholstered all-weather seating range – which includes a cosy lounge chair, a neat two-seater and a generous three-seater – brings the softness and comfort of the living room into the fresh air, and the lightness and sense of freedom imbued into outdoor furniture inside.
“Today, many of us live in a way that blurs the lines between interior and exterior. These spaces support each other. You can see that in design, as the distinction between indoor and outdoor furniture becomes less clear. We bring the comfort of indoors out with us. So, we designed a sofa and lounge chair for spending the best of times outdoors,” says Espen Voll. chaplins.co.uk

A Garden Room: Your Serene Space for Work and Leisure
The allure of garden rooms has flourished, offering a luxurious reprieve from urban clamour in the tranquil confines of our own gardens. These spaces are more than just a trend; they’re a response to the current housing market, where the high cost of moving makes the addition of a garden room a practical choice for many seeking peace and utility in their existing homes.
Garden rooms serve various roles. For the remote worker, they are vital sanctuaries for concentration, while for others, they’re retreats for leisure—spaces for yoga, hobbies, or simply enjoying nature. Beyond their multifunctionality, these rooms are an investment in both personal well-being and property value. They can enhance living space without the need for extensive planning permissions, unlike traditional extensions.
Financially savvy, if used as a home office, garden rooms can be claimed as a business expense, potentially offering tax advantages. They represent an astute choice for professionals desiring to perfect their home-working environment.
When selecting the ideal garden room supplier, you’re not just choosing a structure, but also embracing a sustainable lifestyle. The best providers in the market construct garden rooms using Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs), a nod to contemporary eco-conscious building practices. This construction is not only friendly to the planet, ensuring a reduced carbon footprint, but also offers robust durability and longevity for your serene outdoor retreat.
In the domain of garden rooms, firms like The Green Rooms stand out for offering a seamless,
full-service solution. They eliminate the complexity of coordinating with various contractors, thereby streamlining your project and conserving both time and effort. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to precision, these specialists manage every aspect of the journey from design inception to the final unveiling of your garden room. Groundwork, construction, and even detailed aspects like electrical certification fall within their capable hands. Opting for such a turnkey solution is ideal for those seeking a straightforward path to adding a functional, tranquil garden room to their home without the hassle.
In conclusion, the garden room is a testament to modern living, blending aesthetics, practicality, and ecological consideration. It’s an intimate space for growth, reflection, and professional pursuit— truly a room not just in the garden, but also in our hearts.

Modern Buildings, Traditional Materials
Eco Studios design and build garden studios that are as individual as you are. They are made using hemp - a sustainable, historic material with serious built-in benefits for you and your building. Whether you have a bespoke design in mind or choose one of our existing floor plans, you can relax knowing we will be with you from concept to installation.
The Directors of Eco Studios have over 25 years experience in residential property development with projects ranging from re modelling existing houses to designing and building large family homes. We came to realise there was a real need to create healthier spaces for people to live in and to consider the environment with our construction methods. We are passionate about designing these multi purpose garden buildings for you and our future.
Black mould and condensation issues in homes are regularly in the news at the moment. Natural, breathable materials which allow moisture vapour to move freely through its structure eliminate these issues helping to maintain a comfortable indoor environment.
We use the woody inner core of the hemp plant known as the shiv to construct our buildings.
When this shiv is mixed with water and a lime binder, hempcrete is formed. This natural material is ideal for sustainable construction. Using hempcrete in the building allows for the efficient use of resources while reducing the environmental impact of construction. It is resistant to pests, fire and mould. It is breathable, recyclable and highly insulating, locking up more carbon than is emitted during the building process.
Our studios are custom built in situ. Prices include all works from foundations, electrics and cladding through to decorating. Each studio is built from naturally breathable materials from the hemp structure, the lime plaster and paint on the walls through to the external cladding. Our studios range from Bijou which can be used for your home office or workspace through to Bespoke where with the help of our full design team you can let your imagination run free to create your dream space. DESIGNING A SPA-LIKE BATHROOM AT HOME
Google searches for ‘spa bathrooms’ are up 100%, with many of us exploring how we can design a more serene and relaxing space in our own homes. Lisa Cooper, Head of Product at Thomas Sanderson, shares her design advice on how to turn a basic home bathroom into a spa like sanctuary...
UTILISE NATURAL LIGHT
One of the most important factors to consider when designing a relaxing bathroom is natural light. Spas are light and airy environments, and we can replicate that at home if we choose the right window dressings. Shutters have louvres which you can open and close depending on how much light you want to let into the room. They are a great window solution for a blend of light and privacy, plus the material can withstand the humidity of a warm space so they won’t warp, crack or fade in colour.
ADD PLENTY OF ACCESSORIES
Add a few indoor plants to your bathroom to give the room that exotic and fresh feel. Olive trees look striking in a range of bathroom styles, from modern contemporary to traditional Victorian, the plant provides visual interest into one of the most practical rooms in the home. A sunny, south facing spot by the bathroom window is the ideal place to let your olive tree grow! Scented candles and diffusers can also help you relax by turning your

space into a tranquil spa like escape. Experiment with calming scents that you’d often find on a retreat, like lavender or jasmine, and fill the room with tranquility.
INVEST IN LUXURY TOWELS AND ROBES
Luxury towels are worth investing in as they are absorbent, fluffy and warm. To get that spa style, subtle patterns and natural earthy tones are best for a towel which will look great draped over the bathtub or hung up. To elevate your spa experience at home even further, treat yourself to a new pair of slippers that you can use to keep your feet toasty when you step out of the bath. thomas-sanderson.co.uk

Get the regency garden look
Netflix’s regency drama Bridgerton is set to captivate audiences with its enchanting tales once more as it returns for season three this May. Dobbies Garden Centres has everything you need to feel as regal as Penelope Featherington, aka Lady Whistledown, who is set to take centre stage this season.
We caught up with Dobbies plant buyer, Nigel Lawton, and Seasonal Buyer, Anna Service, to find out how you can get the regencycore aesthetic and create a garden that represents new beginnings, the theme of the season. Strap in for this horse and cart ride as we take you through their tips.
PLANTS
Drawing inspiration from the opulence and elegance of Bridgerton, Nigel recommends lush floral arrangements to transport you into a world of romance and refinement, reminiscent of the beloved Netflix series. Nigel recommends; “Choosing lucious roses, cascading wisteria and other exquisite blooms for your space, will evoke the beauty and fragrance of the Bridgerton era, and can be adapted for gardens of all sizes.” The
regal gardens seen in the show feature wonderful variations of colour. Nigel tells us that spring is the perfect time to brighten up your garden. Shades of red and orange and pink are set to be popular this upcoming season, and fit perfectly with the regal theme, reflecting Penelope’s growth and blossoming romance in the new season.
“The first plant I would pick up for a Bridgerton inspired garden is Dobbies’ Rose ‘Sweet Princess’ blooms, the subtle pink flowers have a mild fragrance and will fill your garden with colour all summer long,” says Nigel. “They are perfect for planting in borders or larger pots.”
GARDEN FURNITURE
Enhance your garden’s regal charm with ornate furniture inspired by the grandeur of Bridgerton’s sets, reminiscent of Penelope’s evolving elegance. From elegant lounging on the Helena Garden Sofa Set to perfectly placed benches, every piece adds a touch of sophistication to your outdoor oasis. Anna recommends the Helena Sofa Set, and the Cashbah Chair, both new to the Dobbies collection for 2024.
“Choose from delicate bird feeders, vintageinspired shelves, and other accents that elevate your garden to a realm of romance and refinement”
GARDEN DÉCOR
Complete the regal look with whimsical garden décor that exudes regal charm, mirroring Penelope’s intricate social circle. Discover ornate water features, intricate decorations, and other accessories from Dobbies that transport you to the refined world of Bridgerton. Nigel tells us; “Water features can add a touch of sophistication and charm to any outdoor space. Our Hampton or Richmond water features would be the perfect addition to any garden or patio, creating a calming, soothing sound and a relaxing ambiance.” Whether hosting a garden party or enjoying a quiet moment surrounded by beauty, every moment has the opportunity to become a romantic escape, echoing Penelope’s romantic aspirations.
ACCESSORIES
Add the finishing touches with accessories that capture the essence of the regency era, echoing Penelope’s attention to detail. Choose from delicate bird feeders, vintage-inspired shelves, and other accents that elevate your garden to a realm of romance and refinement. Anna shares her top tips for effortlessly blending blooms and accessories as she says, “Adding a garden shelf is the perfect way to offset any plants in pots and help them stand out from the rest. Dobbies’ Helena garden shelf unit is a timeless piece, reflecting the beauty and elegance of Bridgerton, allowing customers to create their own slice of
regal paradise, with space for pots, books and more.” As fans eagerly anticipate the next chapter of Bridgerton, Dobbies invites them to embark on their own romantic journey in the comfort of their gardens. With Nigel and Anna’s regal garden picks, every enthusiast can experience the allure of the regency era firsthand.
