June was one of the first residents to move into Marjorie House care home on Crichel Mount Road following its launch event last September. Formerly living in Poole and briefly in a London care home, June wanted to return to the stunning view she once enjoyed, coupled with round-the-clock care provided by the team at Marjorie House.

Artists in Purbeck: Spirit of Place
Until 16 March 2025
The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth, is thrilled to announce the opening of Artists in Purbeck: Spirit of Place, the first exhibition dedicated solely to artists who captured the essence of Purbeck, Dorset, since the beginning of the 20th century.
The Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, has captivated artists for centuries. It’s fascinating variety of landscapes has inspired a wide range of artistic styles and subjects. This groundbreaking exhibition, co-curated by Dr. Gill Clarke MBE (co-author of Shorelines: Artists on the South Coast) and the Russell-Cotes, will showcase a rich collection of artworks drawn from the museum’s permanent holdings, alongside significant loans from private and regional collections, including the Government Art Collection, Southampton City Art Gallery, and Pallant House Gallery. It also brings together works from local collections, including Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, Corfe Castle Museum, Langton Matravers Museum and Swanage Museum.
The exhibition is organised thematically, exploring distinct aspects of Purbeck through the lens of the artists’ work, from quarries and quarrying to the advent of Purbeck as a destination for leisure and tourism. It will also focus on notable landmarks and villages, such as Corfe Castle, Clavell Tower overlooking Kimmeridge
Bay and the Great Globe at Swanage. In addition to the ‘manmade follies’, unique geological wonders like rock formations and dramatic cliffs provided a fascinating subject for artists interested in capturing the history and character of the natural Purbeck landscape. While curating the exhibition, curator Dr Gill Clarke remarked:
‘It’s no wonder artists have been attracted to and captivated by the spectacular coastline, varied landscape and picturesque villages.’
Beyond the visual feast, Purbeck offers a sense of peace and tranquillity, a stark contrast to the bustling city life many artists were accustomed to. This tranquillity fostered both introspective and evocative works that captured essence and the spirit of the place.
Sarah Newman, Manager at the Russell-Cotes, said: ‘We are delighted to present this exhibition, which celebrates the rich artistic legacy of Purbeck. The artists featured in this show have captured the unique beauty and character of this region in a truly inspiring way. We invite visitors to join us on this journey through time and discover the extraordinary works of art that have been inspired by Purbeck.’
Featuring over 70 works, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to explore the Isle of Purbeck over time, through the eyes of artists who capture its ever evolving beauty. Artists in Purbeck: Spirit of Place opened on Saturday 12 October 2024 at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth, and runs until 16 March 2025. russellcotes.com
THE BRITISH MOTOR YACHT SHOW: A world of luxury on the water
Ahead of the British Motor Yacht Show, 15–18 May, we spoke with Graham Bristowe, General Manager of Premier’s Swanwick Marina - the host venue for this exclusive event - to find out what attendees can expect this year.
Q: For those unfamiliar with the British Motor Yacht Show, what makes it special?
The British Motor Yacht Show is a unique event, designed to offer an exclusive and relaxed experience for those who appreciate the finest in luxury motor yachts. The show benefits from being curated by Premier Marinas in collaboration with Britain’s leading boat brands, Fairline, Princess, and Sunseeker. Unlike large-scale boat shows, which can feel overwhelming, this event is curated to provide a more intimate setting where visitors can explore world-class yachts, speak with industry experts and enjoy the stunning surroundings of Premier’s Swanwick Marina. It’s about quality over quantity - a place where serious buyers and motor boat aficionados alike can engage with the very best in motor yacht craftsmanship and innovation.
Q: What can visitors expect from this year’s show?
This year’s event, taking place from 15th to 18th May, promises an impressive line-up of some of the world’s most sought-after yachts. From sleek, high-performance motor yachts to elegant, spacious cruisers, there’s something for everyone with an eye for exceptional design and craftsmanship. Among the highlights are the UK debuts of the Sunseeker Predator 55 and the Pearl 63, as well as an exciting first look at the Bellini Astor 36 from Sebino Yachts. The show also welcomes new names such as Cockwells, M.i.Cats and Fleming Yachts, expanding its reputation as the must-visit luxury motor yacht showcase in the UK. Other brands on display will include Sanlorenzo, Bluegame, Axopar, Galeon, Pardo and XO Crossover.
Q: This show is held at Swanwick Marina. How does the location enhance the experience?
Premier’s Swanwick Marina, situated on the picturesque River Hamble, is the perfect setting for an event of this calibre.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in luxury motor boating to experience the industry at its finest”
Unlike indoor exhibitions, where yachts are presented in artificial surroundings, here visitors can step aboard and truly experience the elegance, scale and engineering of each vessel in a real-world environment. The marina’s premium facilities complement the show beautifully, offering a seamless, high-end experience from the moment guests arrive.
Q: Is the show just for serious buyers or is there something for those simply looking to explore the luxury yachting world?
While the event attracts those considering a purchase, it is also a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in luxury motor boating
to experience the industry at its finest. Whether you’re new to yachting or simply love the idea of spending a day surrounded by stunning yachts and beautiful waterfront views, the show offers an inspiring glimpse into a world of adventure, freedom and sophisticated design.
Q: Beyond the yachts, what else can visitors enjoy?
The recently redeveloped Boathouse Swanwick is a must-visit. With its relaxed waterfront dining, coffee bar and outdoor terrace overlooking the marina, it’s the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere. Expect great food, a laid-back vibe and some of the best views on the south coast. And of course, with exhibitors on hand to discuss motor boat ownership, finance options and bespoke specifications, there’s a wealth of expertise available for those considering making their dream a reality.
Q: How can people attend?
Entry is free, but to ensure the best experience, we encourage visitors to register in advance at britishmotoryachtshow. com, where they can also book individual appointments with exhibitors. Whether you’re a seasoned yacht owner or simply curious to explore, this show offers a truly special experience—one that brings the luxury yachting lifestyle to life. Behind the scenes of the New Forest there’s a dedicated and eclectic mix of people, each helping to care for the Forest’s landscape, wildlife and habitats. From commoners, ecologists and archaeologists to farmers, community volunteers and Forest keepers, they work tirelessly year-round to keep it the special place it is. The New Forest National Park Authority’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ campaign taps into this knowledge and passion, aiming to show a side of the New Forest that often goes unseen.
Meet Forestry England ranger Charlotte Belcher:
‘The New Forest is such a special place because of the rich mix of habitats that we have here, from the ancient woodlands to the beautiful heathland that’s home to many rare species of wildlife. It’s got so much history and heritage behind it as well. And culturally, it has such a significance to many people who live and work in the area.
‘The role of the rangers is really at the forefront of trying to achieve that harmony between people and nature, helping people to connect with the outdoors and enjoy it in a responsible way. If people don’t experience and appreciate the wildlife that’s here, then they’re never going to want to protect it.
‘If everybody really wants to help protect this special place, then the most simple thing they could do is to follow the New Forest code.’
Catherine Chatters is the New Forest Non-Native Plants Officer at Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
She said: ‘The New Forest is a very special place as it’s an extraordinary survivor of a medieval landscape and pastoral economy, supporting one of the greatest concentrations of wildlife in the lowlands of north-west Europe. The Forest’s
ecologically rich and varied habitats including heathlands, ancient woodlands, grasslands, valley mires, rivers and ponds support an abundance of species.
‘In addition to the challenges caused by development and recreational pressures, the New Forest is threatened by the spread of invasive non-native plants, which can out-compete the native vegetation.
‘Working for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust as the New Forest Non-Native Plants Officer I am privileged to play a part in helping to protect the New Forest, in partnership with landowners and our wonderful volunteers.
‘Everyone can help to stop the spread of invasive non-native plants by disposing of surplus garden and pond plants responsibly –please don’t dump them in the countryside.’
Volunteer Fair returns!
Save the date! The area’s largest volunteering event, the New Forest Volunteer Fair, is back on Sunday 26 January 2025 at Brockenhurst Village Hall. More than 40 local groups will be offering hundreds of roles to suit all ages and abilities. Entry is FREE. Visit newforestnpa. gov.uk/volunteerfair.
The holly bears the crown
Holly has been used to decorate homes and public buildings at Christmas since the 15th Century, and some of the ancient holly trees in the New Forest are even thought to go back to this time.
New Forest holly trees have a unique shape as their lower branches are enjoyed by ponies whose sturdy mouths are unhurt by the prickly leaves. This grazing leaves a definite ‘browse line’ at about head height.
Fieldfare and redwing and fly from Siberia to spend Christmas with us in the New Forest and they find the berries delicious!

SLOW TRAVEL WITH UK DRIVING ROUTE SOUTH WEST 660
Make the South West 660 your 2025 bucket list adventure! Like South Africa’s Garden Route, California’s Highway One and Australia’s Great Ocean Road, drivers can now tackle a spectacular new UK driving route, around one of the world’s greatest coastlines.
With UK road trips tipped as one of this year’s hottest travel trends, the new South West 660 offers an incredible 660-mile
driving route around England’s south west peninsula. Using carefully selected smaller roads, that hug the coasts of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, the route is packed with secret beaches, hidden attractions, and little-known views.
The South West 660 launches from the Sandbanks Peninsula, home to golden blue flag beaches and part of Europe’s largest natural harbour. Divided into 12 carefully designed 50-mile sections, the route encourages you to relax the pace and uncover the hidden secrets along the way.
Designed to be as sustainable as possible and encourage low season tourism, the South West 660 is best enjoyed from September to June - do it all in one memorable experience or split the adventure across multiple trips – it’s a great excuse to come back time and time again.
Signing up as a member to the South West 660 allows adventurous visitors to unlock specially curated routes and exclusive membership offers along the way – with a variety of great places to stay, eat and drink; including the likes of The Pig Hotels, River Cottage and St Austell Brewery.
Whether you plan to whisk your partner away in a hired luxury grand tourer, solo travel in your vintage pride and joy or bring the family in the daily run-around, you can create the perfect road
trip. If you are driving an electric vehicle, which is encouraged, the South West 660 recommends using Zap Map to check charger locations – with many of the regions and hotels offering free-to-use charge points.
You can even complete the route with nothing but the rucksack on your back - the South West 660 can be experienced by a hybrid of trains, bus routes and trails, saving money, and the environment, while experiencing the South West to its fullest potential.
Here are five reasons to plan a South West 660 adventure this year!
“Try and spot a seal or admire surfers embracing the seasonal swell along the south-west coastline”
1. Stop and enjoy the views! Offering jaw-dropping views along the way, park up and look out across Jurassic clifftops, head off for a hike along the South West Coastal Path, or take a gentle stroll along blissfully quiet beaches. Try and spot a seal or admire surfers embracing the seasonal swell along the south-west coastline. Feeling brave? Take a wild cold-water dip or have a surf lesson.
2. Get cultural - with a world of heritage to be discovered, immerse yourself in history and myth. With dramatic castles, sprawling stately homes and historic forts – there is plenty to explore, from Dorset’s remarkable Corfe Castle to Plymouth’s Mayflower heritage, Cornwall’s mining history or the wealth of National Trust properties.
3. The Food - Dine out at some the UK’s most exciting foodie spots or visit one of the south west’s many ancient pubs and inns, brimming with charm. Enjoy quality dishes, cooked from ingredients rooted in the region.
4. Stroll around local art galleries, pottery studios and museums in quaint fishing villages –whether it’s a trip to the famous Tate in St Ives, Paul Jackson Studio in Bodmin, or Plymouth’s award-winning Box Gallery, the south-west has been an inspiration for artists for centuries.
5. Tick off famous landmarks – without the crowds. Marvel at Dorset’s Durdle Door, stand on Cornwall’s most south-westerly point at Lands-End or experience a warmer
climate at the Eden Project. From planning your route and booking your accommodation, to recommending where to dine and the best local spots to explore, the site has everything you need to plan your ultimate South West 660 adventure.

RESIDENT THRIVES AT ‘JOYOUS’
NEW MARJORIE HOUSE CARE HOME
NEAR SANDBANKS
Aresident at a new care home near Sandbanks is thriving in the ‘joyous atmosphere’ since moving in.
June was one of the first residents to move into
Marjorie House care home on Crichel Mount Road following its launch event in September this year. Formerly living in Poole and briefly in a London care home, June wanted to return to the stunning view she once enjoyed, coupled with round-the-clock care provided by the team at Marjorie House.
June said: “It’s the nicest place I could imagine. I sit in my chair on the balcony overlooking Poole Harbour, and I’m in heaven. The atmosphere here is joyous.”
She praised the dedicated staff, highlighting their quick response and teamwork, saying “Nothing is too much trouble for them. They’re very good.”
June also enjoys every meal at Marjorie House. “Here, I’m well-fed with nutritionally-balanced, beautifully presented meals. Breakfast often looks like a flower, and it’s delicious,” she said. A VISION FOR THE FUTURE: Harbourview Construction’s Upcoming Projects
Harbourview Construction is proud to share the details of two extraordinary projects that reflect our commitment to heritage preservation and delivering excellence.
Brewer’s Quay: Reviving History in Weymouth
Nestled in the heart of Weymouth’s Hope Square near the Old Harbour, Brewer’s Quay is a landmark with a rich history dating back to its Victorian brewery origins. This ambitious three-phase development will transform this historic structure into a vibrant hub for living, culture, and commerce:
• Phase One: Coopers Mews
Behind the iconic Brewer’s Quay building lies the Old Workshops, now reimagined as three charming, single-storey, 2-bedroom dwellings. These homes attracted high interest; all being occupied immediately after completion.
• Phase Two: Brewery Reach
The former Newtons Cove car park will soon become home to six stunning townhouses and twelve elegant apartments, each boasting gardens, terraces, and parking. This phase celebrates thoughtful design and community living.
• Phase Three: Brewers Quay
The crowning jewel of the development is the meticulous redevelopment of the iconic Brewer’s Quay building. Featuring multiple ground-floor retail units, the return of the Weymouth Museum, and 49 luxurious apartments over five floors, this long-awaited project is set to breathe new life into a treasured part of Weymouth’s history.
Banks Road: Redefining Luxury Living
On the pristine shores of Sandbanks Beach, we are collaborating with David James Architects to construct a future award-winning residence that sets new standards in design and sustainability. With direct beach access, this ground-breaking home will feature:
• Innovative design, emphasizing light, space, and immersive living experiences.
• Sustainable materials and eco-conscious solutions that complement its stunning surroundings.
• Sophisticated interiors, meticulously crafted by DJA.
At Harbourview Construction, we are thrilled to bring this visionary home to life, managing construction for a property that promises to redefine coastal living.
Looking Ahead
These projects are more than just builds—they represent our passion for creating meaningful spaces that honour history, embrace innovation, and enrich communities. We invite you to follow our journey as we make these visions a reality.

These are set to be the stars of the restaurant scene this year, you won’t want to miss them.
By Ella Walker
GOOD FOOD GUIDE AWARDS 2025
The restaurant scene can be pretty volatile, with chains seemingly taking over and independent neighbourhood boltholes opening and going bust on a loop, often within a couple of months. It can be hard to know where exactly you should pin your hopes when it comes to a slap up meal out.
That’s why The Good Food Guide Awards 2025, exists, to point your taste buds in the tastiest direction. In partnership with OpenTable, the honours this year are taking place on February 3 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in central London, hosted by broadcaster and former Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon.
While you’ll have to wait until then to find out which establishments are going to take home the gongs, you can get a head start on booking tables at the restaurants set to be on every ‘top 10 eats’ list for the rest of 2025. We’d start by checking out this lot…
Osip, Somerset
Based in a 300-year-old country inn, on the brink of a pine forest, Osip in Bruton, Somerset is all clean lines, white washed walls and glowy lights. You’ll want to move in, even before you taste the food. Luckily, it has four guest bedrooms, opening soon, so you could roll out of bed and into the dining room for a set tasting menu that goes big on ingredients grown on the restaurant’s own farm.
Skof, Manchester
If you hate tablecloths, you’ll love Skof. The baby of chef Tom Barnes, it has a “strict no tablecloth” policy and no dress code either, so yes, you can wear jeans to dinner.
The Manc restaurant is anti-pretentiousness of any kind, despite the fact that what’s on offer is very much seasonal British tasting menu fare. So you should feel relaxed and at home when tucking into cured mackerel with horseradish, with potato flatbread, fermented gooseberries and dill, or gingerbread mousse with poached quince.
“Seafood is central to everything that’s served at Lyla Edinburgh. The chefs there take the best line caught fish and sustainable shellfish they can get their oven gloves on from the Scottish Isles, and turn it into delicate plates of art”
The lunch menu is pretty good value (£95) and features things like Jerusalem artichoke, Orkney scallop, roasted chicken juices and treacle and ale sourdough with kefir butter, as well as an intriguing pudding of winter roots, bergamot and pine nut ice creams. Osip, its fruit and veg plots and sister wine bar and bistro, The Old Pharmacy, are the work of chef patron Merlin Labron Johnson who got a Michelin star when he was just 24, at a former joint, Portland – he knows what he’s doing.
It’s up against the gold and glitz of The Ritz Restaurant in London, as well as the warm madeleines made to order at the legendary St JOHN (Smithfield), also in London, for the Restaurant of the Year gong.
The space is cool too – a former drapery warehouse – in Manchester’s NOMA neighbourhood. Skof is up for Best New Restaurant, alongside…
Lyla, Edinburgh
Seafood is central to everything that’s served at Lyla Edinburgh. The chefs there take the best line caught fish and sustainable shellfish they can get their oven gloves on from the Scottish Isles, and turn it into delicate plates of art.
They serve a 10-course tasting menu in the evening, or a five to seven course extravaganza at lunch time, celebrating all that seafood alongside organic fruit, veg and meat and foraged ingredients too. It’s already won a slew of best restaurant awards, so there’s quite a buzz around it – you’ll want to book a table asap once they reopen for the year on January 16.
BRIAR
Briar, Somerset
Another west country restaurant is making a name for itself. Briar, also in Bruton, is similarly up for best new restaurant, and comes from former River Cottage alumni and Great British Menu 2022 finalist Sam Lomas – he also happens to be up for the Chef to Watch award too.
Briar is in the old ironmonger’s shop at hotel Number One and the menu is super seasonal and they say, “unfussy”, from Westcombe cheddar gougeres, wild garlic capers to smoked pork sausage, cider mustard and Somerset apple cake, butterscotch and clotted cream. Stay at the hotel and you’ll be able to try breakfast too – think compotes and soft boiled eggs.
Jake Dolin – Manteca, London
There’s been a lot of British tasting menus on this list so far, so apologies. But now for a big old plate of pasta. At Italian restaurant Manteca, chef Jake Dolin is feeding people hand-rolled pasta, dishes made using the whole animal, nose-to-tail, and has an excellent cocktail menu on hand too.
They even have an in-house salumeria, for all your cured meat needs. Order the strozapretti, brown crab cacio e pepe (super rich and peppery), have a glass of wine and imagine you’re on your holidays.
Meedu Saad – Super8 Restaurants, London
Giving Dolan a run for his money in the Chef to Watch category is head chef Meedu Saad, best known for helming KILN in Soho, London. Kiln is a Thai grill, where you can sit at the bar while the chefs cook over hot coals and open flames, grilling skewers of insanely delicious meat and throwing together fiery salads. Always order the stir fried Cornish greens and soy, and
the clay pot baked glass noodles with Tamworth belly and brown crab meat is an absolute must.
The Russell Norman Award for Restaurateur of the Year
Perhaps the most anticipated award of the night will be the The Russell Norman Award for Restaurateur of the Year. Adam Hyman, publisher of the Good Food Guide, has launched the award to remember and pay tribute to his friend, Brutto and Polpo restaurateur Russell Norman, who died by suicide in 2023. Ones to watch in this category are Florence Mae Maglanoc of modern Filipino restaurant Donia and the rest of the Maginhawa Group, and noodle master Guirong Wei (Master Wei, X’ian Impression, Dream X’ian).

This captivating exhibition transports visitors from the living forests that sustain the craft to the celebrated structures it has produced.
At the heart of this journey are Japan’s daiku.
“For centuries, these master carpenters, driven by a respect for nature, have developed techniques and tools informed by the qualities of wood”

T12 April 2025 – 16 November 2025
he V&A will stage the UK’s first major exhibition in almost 30 years dedicated to Cartier jewels and watches, exploring how the Maison became an unparalleled force in the jewellery and watch world.
Featuring more than 350 objects, the exhibition will chart the evolution of the house’s legacy of art, design and craftsmanship since the turn of the 20th century. It was at that point that the three grandsons of founder Louis-François set out to create the first globally recognised jewellery house, establishing branches in Paris, London and New York.
With an enviable client list of royalty and aristocracy, Cartier became known as ‘The Jeweller of Kings and the Kings of Jewellers’ and later broadened its appeal thanks to the devotion of leading creatives from the worlds of cinema, music and fashion.
The exhibition will include precious jewels and showstopping objects, historic gemstones, iconic watches and clocks from the V&A and Cartier Collection, as well as previously unseen drawings from the V&A and Cartier archives, together with works lent by His Majesty The King from the Royal Collection, major UK and international museums, and private collections.
Highlights will include:
• The Williamson Diamond brooch commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 featuring the rare 23.6 carat pink Williamson diamond
• The Scroll Tiara commissioned in 1902 and worn to the coronation of Elizabeth II, and by Rihanna on the cover of W magazine in 2016
• A rose clip brooch (1938) worn by Princess Margaret at her sister’s coronation
• Grace Kelly’s engagement ring (1956), from the Monaco Princely Palace Collection, that she wore in her final film High Society (1956)
• A selection of Cartier timepieces that embody its unique and pioneering approach to watchmaking, including the Crash wristwatch, designed by Cartier London (1967)
Across three main sections the exhibition will explore the creativity of Cartier and the emergence of its signature style, the legacy of its technical ingenuity and craftsmanship, as well as its sophisticated approach to image-making and maintaining its legacy and relevance in a changing world.

PRIVATELY
EDUCATED PEOPLE DOMINATE TOP BRITISH JOBS
The study, by the Sutton Trust education charity, shows that virtually every key profession is dominated by privately educated pupils grabbing the senior management/director positions
“The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools”
Their grip on power is most noticeable in the judiciary, where 74 per cent of leading judges (those in the High Court or Court of Appeal) were privately educated.
Figures in the report also show that one in three MPs (32 per cent) was privately educated – as were half the members of the Conservative Cabinet. Even in Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet, 13 per cent of members went to private school. Nationally, the figure is just 7 per cent. The report, carried out by Dr Philip
Kirby, goes on to show that 71 per cent of senior Army officers – two-star generals and above – went to private schools. Only 12 per cent attended comprehensives.
In medicine, 61 per cent of doctors were privately educated while 22 per cent went to selective state grammar schools and just 16 per cent to comprehensives. The list goes on – 48 per cent of civil servants were educated privately, 29 per cent went to selective grammar schools and 23 per cent to comprehensives.
The higher echelons of journalism are also dominated by the private sector, with 51 per cent educated in independent schools. And of those chief executives of FTSE 100 companies who were educated in the UK, 34 per cent were privately educated. Nearly half the top actors – 42 per cent of Bafta Award winners – went to private schools, fuelling criticism that the profession is becoming more elitist.
“Our research shows that your chances of reaching the top in so many areas of British life are so much better if you went to an independent school,” said Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust. “As well as academic achievement, an independent education tends to develop the essential skills such as confidence, articulacy and teamwork, which are vital to career success.
The Power of Girls-Only Education: Nurturing Future Leaders at TALBOT HEATH SCHOOL
In a world where gender equality remains a work in progress, all-girls education plays a pivotal role in creating a space where young women can thrive, both academically and personally.
Talbot Heath School, a girls’ school offering education from age 2 to 18, is a prime example of how a single-sex learning environment fosters confidence, resilience, and leadership in young women.
An Environment Free from Gender Stereotypes
At Talbot Heath School, students are free from the societal pressures and gender biases that often arise in co-educational settings. This allows them to focus on their strengths, ambitions, and passions without the distractions of conforming to traditional gender roles. Girls feel more empowered to pursue interests in subjects that are often male-dominated, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
At Talbot Heath, girls regularly excel in science, technology, and mathematics, gaining the skills and confidence to pursue these fields at university and beyond.
This supportive environment also nurtures leadership qualities, as every leadership role — from student parliament to club leader — is held by a girl. This experience fosters a sense of self-assurance and independence that serves them well in their future careers.
A Curriculum Tailored for Girls’ Development
Talbot Heath School’s approach to education is designed to meet the specific learning styles and developmental needs of girls. Research shows that girls often thrive in collaborative, discussion-based learning environments, where they feel safe to express their ideas and take intellectual risks. The school’s small class sizes and emphasis on holistic education ensure that every student receives the individual attention they need to reach their full potential.
In addition, Talbot Heath integrates outdoor learning and wellbeing initiatives into the curriculum, such as its Wellbeing Wednesdays, where girls participate in activities like mindfulness, self-defence, and creative arts. These programs help girls
Building Resilient and Compassionate Young Women
One of the key benefits of an all-girls education at Talbot Heath is the focus on personal growth and emotional wellbeing. The school understands that young women face unique challenges in today’s world and provides a nurturing environment where they can develop resilience, compassion, and confidence. Talbot Heath’s new wellbeing centre, “The Oasis,” offers a dedicated space for students to reflect, relax, and recharge.
Preparing for the Future
By educating young women in an environment that prioritises their growth and empowers them to take on leadership roles, Talbot Heath School is not just preparing girls for academic success — it is preparing them for life. Here, they learn to embrace their strengths, overcome challenges, and pursue their dreams without limits. An all-girls education at Talbot Heath nurtures future leaders, ready to make their mark on the world with confidence and compassion. – Tracy Harris, Head talbotheath.org

A NEW ERA FOR INDEPENDENT EDUCATION IN BECKENHAM
As St Christopher’s The Hall announces a new and exciting merger with St Dunstan’s Education Group, we speak to Head, Tom Carter, about the school’s next chapter.
What makes St Christopher’s The Hall such a special and unique place?
St Christopher’s The Hall is a special place where every child can truly shine. It’s a school filled with encouragement, fun, and a real sense of belonging. We work hard to ensure that every child feels happy, supported, and ready to take on challenges with confidence. What makes St Christopher’s unique is how we celebrate each child for who they are. Differences are embraced, talents are discovered, and everyone feels free to be themselves.
Here, every day is an opportunity for children to grow into curious, confident, and kind individuals. Whether they’re trying something new, working together, or simply enjoying the journey, we help them feel safe to believe in themselves, have fun learning, and feel ready for whatever comes next. It’s a place where anything feels possible, and that’s what makes it so special.
“Our experienced Early Years team creates a warm, supportive environment where children can grow”
At St Christopher’s, we also believe in the power of working together with parents as partners in their child’s learning journey. We regularly invite parents to engage with the school community and take part in parent partnership events to give them a sense of our curriculum where they can experience first-hand how their children are learning. This collaboration strengthens the bond between home and school, ensuring that every child feels supported both in and out of the classroom.
By fostering this sense of partnership and celebrating every child’s individuality, St Christopher’s creates a nurturing environment where
children can thrive and discover their full potential.
St Christopher’s recently announced it was joining St Dunstan’s Education Group, please can you tell us more about this and the benefits to the community?
St Christopher’s joining St Dunstan’s Education Group is such an exciting step for our school community. It’s not about needing to make a change—it’s about making a great school even better and planning for an even brighter future. Both schools share the same values and a commitment to putting children at the heart of everything we do, so this partnership feels like a natural fit. The benefits are huge. By working together, we’ll have access to more expertise, resources, and opportunities, which means an even richer experience for our pupils. This could include new extracurricular activities, enhanced support for every child, and even more investment in facilities and learning experiences. It’s not just about the here and now—it’s about making sure St Christopher’s stays strong and continues to thrive in a changing world. Both schools are in a great place, and teaming up like this means we can build on our strengths and offer even more to our children and families. However, the best part is it is all about helping every child here to grow, explore, and succeed. This partnership is full of exciting possibilities, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds!
How does the school help children settle into reception and nursery in those early days?
At St Christopher’s Preschool and Reception, we go above and beyond to ensure every child feels safe, happy, and excited about starting their school journey. Those first days can feel like a big step, but our priority is to help each child settle in with care and confidence.
In Preschool, we focus on nurturing each child as an individual. Our bright, welcoming classrooms are designed to spark curiosity and creativity, with play-based learning
“At St Christopher’s, we also believe in the power of working together with parents as partners in their child’s learning journey”
gently building the skills they’ll need as they grow. It’s all about helping children feel comfortable and confident while developing a love for learning. As one parent recently shared, “I just wanted to thank you for accepting our daughter into your Preschool. She is loving every minute of it and spends all weekend asking when it will be time for school again. She is clearly finding the environment so interesting and stimulating, and her vocabulary and knowledge seem to be exploding. It is so reassuring to see her so happy.”
When children join Reception, they immediately become an integral part of our Pre-Prep community. With two Reception classes of up to 22 children, each supported by a teacher and a teaching assistant, we ensure that every child gets the attention they need to thrive.
Our experienced Early Years team creates a warm, supportive environment where children can grow. Through a balance of childled exploration and structured teaching, we help them develop key skills in Communication, Numeracy, Literacy, and Physical Development, all while fostering their natural curiosity and independence. From the very beginning, children enjoy specialist teaching in PE, Music, Drama, Art, and Modern Foreign Languages, opening doors to new skills and experiences.
At St Christopher’s, settling into school is about more than just routines. It’s about creating a foundation of confidence, joy, and a lifelong love of learning that stays with them for years to come.

HOW TO MASTER THE ‘NO MAKE-UP’ BEAUTY LOOK
There have been several variations of the ‘no make-up’ make-up look over the years – from fluffy brows to brown mascara. The one consistency to a ‘no make-up’ makeup look though, is pore-less, perfect-looking skin. From the best products for your skin type to tried-and-tested techniques, leading make-up artists detail how to master the ‘no make-up’ makeup look this winter.
What is ‘no make-up’ make-up?
‘Glass skin’ was one of 2024’s biggest make-up trends, inspired by the Korean beauty trends that placed the emphasis on skincare, rather than make-up.The clue is in the name, but at its core, ‘no make-up’ make-up celebrates the skin’s natural texture while offering subtle enhancements. “It’s all about looking fresh, healthy, and perfected without super visible or obvious makeup,” says Stila brand manager, Sascha Jackson. “The key is to create the illusion that you’re wearing little to no make-up while enhancing your features subtly. It’s about fresh, dewy and effortless skin,” says professional makeup artist and co-founder of Ella & Jo, Charlene Flanaghan. Think blurred imperfections and satin finishes: your skin but better.
How to prep the skin
Here’s how to make your skin fresh and flawless with minimal make-up this winter.
By Lara Owen
When you’re wanting the appearance of ‘no make-up’ skin, the emphasis is on the skincare – not the make-up. As with any make-up look, you should start with a clean base, having cleansed the skin and patted it completely dry, following with hydration. “Using a serum, moisturiser and face mask will help hydrate your skin, smooth its texture, and leave your face feeling soft,” says Boots beauty specialist Leanna Zaman. “Once you’ve prepped your skin,

your make-up will blend more seamlessly, creating a flawless look.” While hydration is key, ensuring your base is free from pollution will help create a more even finish, “Exfoliate to remove impurities and create a smooth surface,” says professional make-up artist Natalia Trepashko at Oriflame Cosmetics. It’s important to exfoliate using chemical exfoliants rather than physical – which cause abrasions on the skin. Some cleansers have chemical exfoliants in them, such as AHA and BHA, which help clean and strip the skin of excess pollutants.
What type of foundation to pick
When achieving ‘no make-up’ skin, you want to opt for the lightest coverage possible. This means a sheer foundation or a tinted moisturiser, accompanied by small amounts of concealer for breakouts or dark under-eyes. If you’re opting for a foundation, the key to making it look natural lies less in the shade and more in the undertone, “The secret to a flawless base is to pick a shade that complements your skin’s undertone,” says Trepashko. “If you are more olive-skinned, go for a yellow undertone, if you’re fairer, choose a pink undertone.”

The tick to blurring spots without caking on too much concealer is to spot-correct. Spot-correcting is when you apply a tinted concealer to help neutralise unwanted discoloration. Colour-correcting palettes include green shades for redness, yellow for purple under eyes and pink for brown age spots. “Spot-correcting instead of targeting the whole face at once gives a more natural finish,” says Jackson. “Start with the areas which are giving you the most concerns: blemishes, under-eye dark circles, redness – then work from there.” It’s important to ensure that the areas made up of more delicate skin – such as the under eyes and lips – are moisturised and hydrated before applying product, as otherwise the concealer will settle within fine lines. “Let the concealer dry slightly before blending for fuller coverage,” says Zaman “and for a lighter finish, dust a small amount with a fluffy brush”
How to avoid ‘blush blindness’
While 2024 saw blush and facial flush grow in popularity, a TikTok trend known as ‘blush blindess’ meant not everyone was applying it naturally. “Cheek tints give skin a radiant sheen and create a subtle, natural flush,” explains Zaman. “Besides their dewy finishes, cream blushes tend to be more buildable than powder, and are key to a more natural-looking effect.”
When it comes to application, Zaman recommends applying a liquid or cream blush with a liquid highlighter to create a soft, natural glow: “I like to use a cream or liquid highlighter when I apply cream blush as it helps the products melt together. “It makes the highlight a lot softer and more natural.” Jackson says the key to making blush and highlighter blend into the skin, as opposed to sitting on top of it, is to use your fingers.“Apply with a soft brush or fingertips,” says Jackson. “Using this under foundation helps to give the illusions of a true ‘lit from within’ glow as opposed to a heavy strobe or highlighter.”

The new year calls for a fashion refit – especially when it comes to your workwear.
Undoubtedly, the most difficult part of the outfit to pull off is your bag, and finding something that is both stylish and practical.
“Your work bag is one of the hardest working pieces in your wardrobe,” says Fiorelli‘s handbag expert Holly Tebbutt. “So it’s important to invest in a high-quality work bag that will last you through the years.”
We hear from celebrity stylists and fashion experts on how you can find the perfect work bag that will elevate – and not deflate –your outfit.
Oversized tote
The current trend of the season – unfortunately for our shoulders – is the oversized tote. “Oversized totes are seeing a huge spike in popularity at the moment, which is perfect for the over-packers amongst us!” says Antler‘s managing director, Kirsty Glenne. Not only is the slouchy tote a chic nod to the boho-trend of the year, but you have easy access to all your essentials. “The only drawback with the tote style is that it can get messy quickly!” says Tebbutt. “This style is here to stay, but the addition of pockets, dividers or compartments will help keep you organised and your belongings safe on your commute.”
The smart backpack
The material of your bag is just as important as the style, particularly
when you’re looking to elevate your outfit. “Opt for high-quality materials like leather for longevity and a professional finish,” suggests stylist and wardrobe consultant Oriona Robb. “Comfortable straps that are padded are also a must for heavy books and laptops.” Leather is certainly the most timeless choice to go for, but real leather (as opposed to vegan) can get damaged in the rain and can look scruffy quickly if not properly cared for. Alternatively, a slim Scandinavian-style backpack is an easy win. “It’s also key to have a secure section for your laptop to avoid any damage when carrying around after work,” explains ROKA London’s co-founder Emma Katz. Sandqvist, Antler and Rains are all brands that sport Nordic-inspired designs, and are slick and smart enough to use in the office but also practical with water-resistant designs and separate compartments for chargers, books and laptops.
Cross-body holdall
If you love the look of a tote but don’t want to forfeit your shoulders in the process, Clare Chambers, the personal brand stylist, says the solution lies in doubling up. “One of the great design features many bags now offer is multiple strap options, from holdalls that come with an additional shoulder strap, to cross-body bags designed to be able to shorten into a short under-shoulder strap,” says Chambers.
“This is vital to make sure your bag includes this option, so that you can have your bag securely on your shoulder and avoid the arm juggle of balancing a drink and greeting people.” Alternatively, you can go the full hog and invest in the on-trend large cross-body with just a singular strap.

FOR EVERY SKIN TONE
From the undertone to the finish – here’s how to find your perfect nude lipstick.
By Lara Owen
Finding the perfect nude lipstick is no small feat. It’s the holy grail of everyone’s make-up bag, and can make a look go from pared-back to perfectly polished.
Whether you reach for a deep matte like Zendaya, a satin finish like Hailey Bieber or a corally nude like Nicole Kidman – the formula, shade and staying power require a lot of thought when finding the perfect nude.
So, to demystify the process, celebrity make-up maestros share their top tips for finding your perfect nude lipstick.
How to find your skin’s undertone
The first step when finding your perfect nude is to determine your skin’s undertone.
If you have cool undertones, this will be evident through bluish or purple veins.
Oriflame‘s make-up artist and trainer
“Those with warm undertones, who have golden or peachy hues with green veins, should look for peach, caramel or brownish nudes”
Natalia Trepashko recommends colder pinks like mauve or berry.
“Avoid overly yellow or orange tones as they can clash,” she says.
Those with warm undertones, who have golden or peachy hues with green veins, should look for peach, caramel or brownish nudes.
If you’re neutral, you’re in luck, as it means the world’s your oyster when it comes to nude lips.

green or blue,” says Trepashko. “You have more flexibility, and both cool and warm nudes can work – most likely taupe or beige is good on you.”
If you still can’t tell – it’s best to do a swatch of each in person.
“It’s always wise to swatch a few nude lipsticks side by side first before trying any one,” says BBC Glow Up judge and MAC Cosmetics director of make-up artistry, Dominic Skinner. “Then try on the one that has the same undertone as yourself to see if it fits.”
The perfect nude for darker skin tones
The deeper your skin tone, the trickier it may be to find the perfect nude, as some shades are more likely to wash you out.
“Don’t be afraid to go richer and deeper,” says Skinner. “Some plums, berries and copper-toned lip colours can compliment deeper skin tones.”
Opting for nudes that lean into more brown than pink undertones can better compliment your skin tone – but personal preference is key – so don’t be afraid to experiment.
Matte, satin or gloss?
The finish of a nude lip depends on the look you’re wanting to go for.
“Matte is for bold, statement make-up; satin is for a more balanced, classy vibe; and gloss adds youthful freshness,” says Trepashko.
If you’re looking for a look that will carry you through from day-to-night, Skinner recommends a satin finish.
“Nudes look great in any finish but personally I love a satin finish – not too shiny and not too matte.”
Balancing a nude lip with the rest of your make-up
It may sounds ridiculous – because isn’t a nude lip supposed to match any make-up look?
That’s where you’re wrong. Balancing your
eye and cheek colour to your lip plays a huge part in ensuring a flattering nude look.
“Choose a nude lipstick close to your natural lip colour to avoid competing with strong eye or cheek looks,” says Trepashko.
Skinner suggests working backwards. “Start with the bold feature first, whether it’s your eyes or cheeks. This helps you gauge how nude the lip should be.
“You might need to add an additional lip liner to the look to help make the lips stand out, without drawing attention away from the bolder eye or cheek.”
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
“The biggest mistake is thinking nude equals pale,” says Skinner. “Nude isn’t about matching your skin colour; it’s about creating harmony.”
Like Skinner, Trepashko warns against going too light when choosing a nude. “The best nude matches your own lip colour,” she says. “Always exfoliate and moisturise beforehand, and don’t forget a matching lip liner for definition.”
But make sure the lip liner isn’t too dark, as professional make-up artist and founder of Ayu Cosmetics Suzie O’Neill says, “Ensure that your lip liner is the same shade as lipstick or one shade darker.
“You do not want your lipstick coming off and being left with a dark outline with no lipstick! Take a look at your lip conditions too – choosing a matte lipstick will dry out lips that are already dry.”
And don’t forget about the weather, as Skinner notes, “Your skin tone and undertone can change in different seasons, so you should consider changing your nude lip colour.
“You might need something more warmer in summer to compliment your tan or something cooler in winter to match the cooler light we get in winter.”

HOW TO FIND WHAT JEWELLERY SUITS YOU BEST
Jewellery experts reveal the tips and tricks for finding your statement pieces.
By Lara Owen
Some people are known for their jewellery. From Princess Diana’s sapphires to Liz Taylor’s diamonds, finding a signature accessory is an extension of your style.
Finding the perfect piece that complements you isn’t an easy task. How can you tell whether to go for gold or silver – or even mixed metals? Expert jewellers share their hacks.
DETERMINE WHETHER YOUR SKIN TONE IS WARM, COOL, OR NEUTRAL
The first step to finding the perfect metal is to determine your skin tone.
“Understanding your skin tone is key to finding jewellery that flatters you,” explains Pandora UK‘s jewellery expert, Emma Fox.
“For a quick test, try the “white paper” trick to see whether your undertones skew warm or cool,” says Fox. “Simply hold a white sheet of paper near your face in natural light and see how your skin looks.
“If it appears yellow or golden, you have warm undertones. If it looks pink or blue-ish, you have cool undertones, and if you notice a mix of both, you’re likely neutral.”
Warm undertones often suit yellow or rose gold jewellery, whilst cool often suits silver or white gold. If you have a neutral skin tone, you can wear almost any metal and it will flatter your complexion.
It’s also important to take into account your hair and eye colour. “If you have darker hair and eyes, bold, vibrant pieces are your best friend. Yellow gold on its own paired with deep reds and rich greens create a striking contrast, really enhancing your natural warmth,” says Clogau‘s
managing director Ben Roberts.
“For those with lighter eyes like blue or green – silver or white gold tends to be the ideal match, giving a clean, polished look,” explains Roberts, “and if you’re blonde or have lighter hair, rose gold is your go-to, while pastel gemstones like soft blues or pinks will add a subtle charm.”
THE EFFECT OF GEMSTONES
Whilst the shade of a metal can lift or dull your complexion, gemstones can change their effect all together. “The colour of gemstones affects how the metal complements your skin,” says THOMAS SABO’s creative director, Aurore Melot. “Colourful zirconia, lab-grown sapphires, and natural stones like tiger’s eye or rose quartz pair beautifully with both silver and gold.”
“Diamonds are universally flattering and suit all skin tones, hair colours, and eye colours,” explains Beaverbrooks‘ head of diamonds and jewellery, Lorna Haddon. “Their neutral sparkle complements both cool and warm undertones, making them a timeless and versatile choice for anyone.
“Coloured gemstones, meanwhile, can add a layer of individuality
THE MOST LONG-LASTING OPTION
When it comes to picking a piece that you can pass down for generations, the colour matters less than the material.
“Solid silver or plated silver jewellery will wear much better than jewellery made of base metals, such as brass,” says founder of Dower & Hall, Diane Hall. “Even the best-quality jewellery in the world will wear with time, though, so it’s best to follow the brand’s jewellery care instructions to ensure your pieces last a lifetime.”
“Opting for highquality metals will lessen the likelihood of allergic reactions and irritations”
and personal expression to your jewellery,” says Haddon. “For example, emeralds beautifully enhance green or hazel eyes, while sapphires create a striking contrast with blue eyes. Rubies, with their rich red tones, are stunning against brown eyes.”
THE BEST HYPOALLERGENIC OPTIONS
There’s probably been occasions where you’ve worn your favourite silver ring then taken it off at the end of the day, only to be left with a green band around your finger.
Opting for high-quality metals will lessen the likelihood of allergic reactions and irritations.
“Platinum is naturally hypoallergenic and offers a sleek, silver-white finish,” says Fox. “It’s an excellent option for those with sensitive skin and is highly durable.”
If you want a more affordable option, nickelfree gold and sterling silver are the best options.
“Gold alloyed without nickel is gentle on the skin and comes in various shades to suit different undertones,” says Fox. “Pure sterling silver (free from nickel) is another skin-friendly choice, offering classic silver tones.
Fox suggests cleaning your jewellery regularly using mild soap and avoiding abrasive cleaners to prevent scratches.
“To prevent tarnishing, store in anti-tarnish bags or add silica gel packets to your jewellery box to reduce moisture,” suggests Fox.
To get the most wear out of your jewellery – it goes without saying that removing your precious metals before swimming, showering or applying lotions and perfumes is key.

TREND: CASTLECORE
For thousands of years of human history, we have seen castles as symbols of status, protection, power and most importantly (in our eyes anyway) gorgeous renderings of architectural design. The reason so many stand around the world to this day, surrounded by other modern masterpieces of construction is that they will always inspire marvel and stir curiosity. So why did we stop building them? That we can’t answer, but what we can do is help you style your space using some mid (13th) century majesty. So for dining tables fit for royalty and lighting that would even bring illumination to the dark ages, stick around and explore with us our latest trend, Castlecore.
DOOM & GLOOM:
Creating an ambience isn’t just reliant on furniture, but the entire mood of the room. Surrounding yourself with tones that are tantalisingly downbeat often provides a subtle, yet moody, backdrop to highlight the bold and grand nature of castle life.
“Creating an ambience isn’t just reliant on furniture, but the entire mood of the room”
Adorning the walls with a rich red or an overgrown green is one of the best ways to put your favourite pieces front and centre.
THE ROUND TABLE:
A seat at the table has rarely symbolically meant more than in the stories of castle courts. In this trend, large dining tables are characterised by large amounts
of space for your nearest and dearest and often contain dark and distinguished wooden elements that make it a strong statement of robust interiors. Curved edges encompass the togetherness that harsh edges do not.
PERSONAL CHAMBERS:
Bedrooms. In today’s time they contain a myriad of mod-cons, but in the middle-ages they were usually focused around one thing: their namesake. The throne wasn’t the only important individual piece of furniture in a castle; a place to sleep and rest has been the cornerstone of a quintessential home since the human story began. So the exuberance of a four-poster bed, a room within a room, is the ideal way to go from bedroom to bed chamber.
A LIGHT IN THE DARK:
When we think of castles, our minds are cast to ceilings as high as the eye can see. But with tall rooms come the inevitable - tall lighting. Chandeliers have been a staple of castles since we had a word for ‘fire hazard.’ In 2025 they’re still a seriously stylish way of illuminating your space, albeit with candlelight replaced by something
CABINET OF WONDERS:
Storage, at times, is arguably the least interesting element of interiors. It is a space merely to hold other things we cherish and prize. However, placed in the right location and paired with the correct surroundings, it takes on an entire new lease of life. Displaying your favourite objects whilst seamlessly and stylishly blending with a grandiose backdrop ironically makes a large cabinet a subtle Castlecore detail. chaplins.co.uk
MIKE MCMAHON STUDIO: ARCHITECTURE, INTERIORS & LANDSCAPES IN DIALOGUE
Award-winning Mike McMahon Studio pushes the boundaries of architecture, interiors, landscapes, and furniture to craft cohesive, thoughtful environments.
Founded by Mike McMahon and Jewlsy Mathews, the Westminster-based practice integrates sustainability and urban greening into every project. Their work—rooted in material exploration and conceptual integrity—has gained international recognition, featuring in BBC, Interior Design, The Observer Magazine, Enki, The Spectator, The Times, Dwell, and The Modern House, reaching audiences from China to the US.
A Practice Shaped by Experimentation
The studio’s journey began with Rufford Mews, a design laboratory in King’s Cross where over 20 bespoke furniture pieces were crafted, each telling a unique story.
A once-underwhelming kitchen became a convivial hub, a recess was reimagined as a Mondrian-inspired reading nook, and urban balconies evolved into verdant extensions—offering biodiversity, shading, and a quiet city retreat.
This ethos carried through to their Gold Medal-winning Addleshaw Goddard Junglette Balcony Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024—a lush urban oasis showcasing the power of small-scale greening. A geometric backdrop of recycled paper mirrored the rainforest’s layers, while Unfurl Paper, the world’s first cantilevered chair made from recycled paper, debuted as a statement in sustainable design.
“Mike McMahon Studio does more than create spaces—they shape experiences”
Reworking Space with Precision
At Auburn, a once light-starved home was redefined with a folded roof and sedum covering—drawing daylight deep inside while enhancing biodiversity. Spire View reinterprets rural vernacular with contemporary homes that
blend material honesty and craftsmanship. In Islington, Japanese screens transformed a sun-drenched apartment, modulating light and atmosphere to create a living space that breathes with the day.
Beyond Buildings: Expanding the Studio’s Vision
From a 28,000 sq ft postmodernist office in Notting Hill, now reimagined with a CLT extension and fluted white brick, to The Village, a playful set of function-driven school playground houses in King’s Cross, the studio continues to design spaces that are as imaginative as they are meaningful.
Designing with Intention
Mike McMahon Studio doesn’t just design spaces—they craft experiences. Their work is a dialogue between built form and nature, between history and innovation, between how we live now and how we want to live in the future. mikemcmahonstudio.com info@mikemcmahonstudio.com 020 7088 8045 @mikemcmahonstudio
WHY REUPHOLSTERING IS THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
In today’s world of fast consumerism, we often overlook the beauty of craftsmanship in favour of convenience. But reupholstering furniture is an art that invites us to slow down, appreciate quality, and embrace sustainability. At House of Interiors, we believe furniture should be treasured, not discarded.
Our expert reupholstery service transforms your pieces,
whether through a simple fabric refresh or a complete redesign. Each item is stripped down to its frame, carefully reinforced, and meticulously reupholstered using premium materials of your choice. The result? A beautifully crafted, custom-made piece tailored to your exact needs and style. It’s more than just restoration—it’s a reinvention.
“Choosing to reupholster isn’t just an aesthetic decision; it’s an ecofriendly choice that reduces waste and extends the life of your furniture”

Origin is proud to be at the forefront of these developments, offering cutting-edge solutions that cater to every lifestyle and collaborating closely with clients throughout the design process. Here’s a look at the key trends transforming the world of indoor pools in 2025 and how Origin integrates them to elevate your lifestyle and home.
WELLNESS AND SPA FEATURES
Over the next year, the trend towards creating wellness-centric environments will continue to rise, with homeowners looking to incorporate spas, saunas and steam rooms into their indoor pool areas. These additional features will help create a holistic environment that encourages relaxation, stress relief and physical rejuvenation. You can transform your pool into a complete spa experience by incorporating hydrotherapy jets, wellness areas and more. Origin’s team is committed to designing and building pools that don’t just provide physical fitness but also offer a sanctuary for mental well-being.
ENERGY-EFFICIENT DESIGN
Origin understands that sustainable design isn’t just about using eco-friendly materials – it’s about building energy-efficient pools that are cost-effective and better for the environment.
They’re leading the way by offering eco-friendly solutions, such as solar panel integrations, energy-efficient LED lighting and variable-speed pool pumps to help reduce your pool’s carbon footprint. They also design and install complete air source heat pump solutions for clients seeking a greener, cost-effective alternative to traditional heating systems. The future of pools is one where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand, creating a relaxing experience that doesn’t compromise the planet.
MOVABLE POOL FLOORS
Transforming your pool area into a completely versatile space is no longer a distant dream. With systems like Hydrofloors, your pool can transition from a deep swimming area to a walkable surface in minutes. This trend is a game-changer for families and homeowners who need a space that works for multiple purposes. Imagine using your pool room for family gatherings, fitness activities or yoga sessions, only to switch it back to a swim-ready depth when desired. The flexibility that movable pool floors provide adds a whole new dimension to your indoor pool space, allowing you to create a space that evolves with your lifestyle.
PERSONALISED AND CUSTOM DESIGNS
INTEGRATING INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACES
As the lines between indoor and outdoor living continue to blur, this year, more indoor pools will be designed to create a seamless transition between the two. Architectural glazed openings, expansive windows and covered terraces will open your indoor pool to your garden, allowing you to enjoy your pool and outdoor space regardless of the weather. Origin understands your indoor pool should be part of your larger living environment. Whether you want to enjoy a swim with a view or host family gatherings outdoors, this seamless integration creates a fluid connection with the garden, ensuring the indoor pool is as much a part of the landscape as it is of the home.

LAYERED CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE TEN YEARS UNFOLDED COLLECTION
LAYERED marks its 10th anniversary with the launch of a special collection featuring five rugs. Three patterns from the company’s archives have been given a new life with updated colourways, as a tribute to its customers.
The Illusion rug, originally part of LAYERED’s first collection in 2015, is now available in three new colourways. The viscose rugs, Letters and Triangle, which were introduced in 2016, have also been updated with colour combinations such as teal, ochre, rust red, beige and yellow. These new colours were carefully selected to offer a modern feel and easily harmonise with other colours and materials in different settings. The vibrant tones of this collection celebrate LAYERED’s customers, who often embrace colour with confidence.
The collection’s patterns are rooted in design traditions and historical influences. The Illusion rug creates an optical effect that evokes a sense of depth, inspired by old patterns from Persian art and architecture. The Triangle rug is crafted to give a subtle three-dimensional effect, a common feature in architecture and textile design. The labyrinthine design of the Letters rug creates a graphic effect, making it a striking centrepiece in any room. The Ten Years Unfolded anniversary collection is hand-
tufted in 100% wool and will be available in select stores and on the LAYERED website.
“When we created this collection, we revisited some of our earliest products in the archives and found three designs released during LAYERED’s first year. These early statement pieces became strongly associated with our aesthetic and became part of our signature style. We felt the designs are still relevant, but they could be refreshed with new colour combinations to give them an updated look that fits today’s aesthetic context,” explains Malin Glemme, CEO and founder of LAYERED.
“The Ten Years Unfolded Collection reflects the innovative and enduring design we’ve always stood for. Our customers are bold and appreciate pushing boundaries with both colour and form. They seek something unique and daring, and their taste drives us to continue creating with creativity and sustainability in mind. This collection is a tribute to our customers, our history and is a guide for the future,” concludes Malin Glemme, CEO and founder of LAYERED. layeredinterior.com

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION UNDER ONE ROOF
When considering a home renovation or a new build, homeowners are often torn between hiring a traditional architect or opting for a design and build company like NU Projects of Fulham. While both options have their merits, there are compelling reasons to choose a design and build firm for your next project.
One of the key advantages of working with a design and build company like NU Projects is the seamless integration of design and construction under one roof. In a traditional setup, the architect designs the project, and then a separate contractor is hired to execute the build. This can lead to miscommunication, delays, and unexpected costs as the two parties navigate differing interpretations of the plans.
With a design and build company, the entire process is handled by a single team, ensuring that everyone is on the same page from start to finish. This not only streamlines the workflow but also minimises the risk of costly errors and changes during the construction phase. Another significant benefit is the cost-efficiency of the design and build model. NU Projects, for instance, provides clients with a comprehensive quote early in the process, which includes both design and construction costs. This transparency allows homeowners to manage their budget more effectively and avoid the common pitfalls of underestimating the total project cost. In contrast, traditional architects might not provide a full picture of the construction expenses upfront, leading to potential budget overruns.
“Transforming Visions into Reality with Seamless Design and
Furthermore, NU Projects offers a tailored, client-focused approach that combines creative design with practical solutions. Their team is not only skilled in architectural design but also deeply knowledgeable about the building process, local regulations, and the latest construction techniques. This holistic expertise ensures that the final result is not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound and compliant with all necessary standards.
In conclusion, choosing a design and build company like NU Projects of Fulham offers homeowners a more integrated, costeffective, and hassle-free experience. With a single point of contact and a unified vision from start to finish, the journey from concept to completion is smoother, more efficient, and ultimately more satisfying.

From Home Spas incorporating both Sauna and Steam Rooms, SwimSpas, Hydrotherapy Spas and Outdoor Kitchens. In today’s fast-paced world, creating spaces that promote relaxation, and well-being has become a priority for many homeowners. Among the most sought-after luxury home features are saunas, spas, and

outdoor kitchens. These elements not only elevate the aesthetic and functionality of a home but also serve as vital retreats for mental and physical rejuvenation. This editorial explores the allure and benefits of incorporating saunas, spas, and outdoor kitchens into modern living spaces.
Saunas, have become synonymous with relaxation and wellness worldwide. Regular sauna use helps improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, detoxify the body, and reduce stress. As infrared saunas rise in popularity, these modern versions promise enhanced comfort, offering gentle heat that penetrates deeper into the body, promoting relaxation without the intense heat of traditional saunas. Wessex Spas have a trusted and long established partnership with Tylo Saunas, offering you the best quality, workmanship and styles to suit your home, budgets, and your requirements. The therapeutic effects of saunas make them popular in home wellness spaces, where individuals seek a sanctuary to unwind. Whether freestanding or part of a luxurious bathroom or basement remodel, saunas provide a personal retreat that enhances overall health. The appeal lies not only in their soothing nature but
also in the simplicity of their installation—requiring only sufficient space and proper ventilation.
Spas, particularly hot tubs and hydrotherapy pools are the ultimate indulgence in home relaxation. They offer a soothing escape that combines the therapeutic benefits of warm water with massaging jets. Hot tubs can promote cardiovascular health by increasing blood flow and lowering blood pressure. What makes spas particularly attractive is their versatility. Today’s spas come in a range of sizes and configurations, from compact two-person models to large, multiseat versions that can accommodate family or friends. They often feature customizable settings for water temperature, jet intensity, and lighting, allowing users to tailor the experience to their preferences. The growing trend of integrating spas into outdoor spaces adds an element of luxury and relaxation to backyards and patios, making them the ideal place to unwind after a long day or entertain guests. Wessex Spas have the biggest and longest relationship with world famous Canadian manufacturer Arctic Spas, known for their quality and luxurious styles.

That’s why after sales are so important to Richard and Mark, to enhance the client relationship, to offer you peace of mind that you are purchasing from the very best and knowledgeable in the field.
As the desire for outdoor living spaces grows, outdoor kitchens have become one of the most sought-after features for homeowners looking to enhance their backyard. These kitchens bring the joy of cooking and entertaining outdoors, providing an ideal space for grilling, dining, and socializing in a comfortable, scenic environment. From built-in grills and refrigerators to sinks and pizza ovens, outdoor kitchens are equipped with the essentials to make cooking an enjoyable experience.
With proper care and maintenance, spas are a long-lasting addition to any home. Regular cleaning, water management, and
The benefits of an outdoor kitchen extend beyond the cooking process. They create an inviting area for family and friends to gather, encouraging outdoor activities and long meals under the sky. Whether it’s a simple barbecue station or an elaborate gourmet kitchen, these setups are designed to withstand the elements, featuring durable materials like stone, stainless steel, and weatherresistant wood.
When designed well, outdoor kitchens can enhance the value of a home, making them a solid investment for homeowners who love to entertain or spend time outdoors. Ask Wessex Spa for details about their Bull, outdoor kitchens and design to complete your outdoor living space and enjoy quality time with friends and family.
Incorporating saunas, spas, and outdoor kitchens into a home elevates it from a mere living space to a sanctuary of relaxation and wellness. These features cater to the modern homeowner’s desire for a balanced lifestyle, blending comfort, luxury, and functionality. As trends in home design continue to evolve, these wellness-oriented spaces are here to stay.

The late designer Robert Kime, famous for his eclectic English style, always started rooms with a rug. He felt they set the tone and were a joyous start to the process.
Whilst Robert favoured antique oriental rugs, today’s English interiors embrace this cosmopolitan approach, alongside fresh colours, patterns, textures, and strong support for British business.
Finding high-quality rugs that harmonise with today’s moodboards brings us to ‘Rugs of Petworth’—a boutique West Sussex company with a beautiful showroom in the picturesque market town of Petworth, filled with independent stores and antique shops, just an hour from London.
Owner and sourcing specialist Alex Rees has been in the business for over 20 years. Passionate about travel, he has curated a collection of newly crafted, 100% handmade rugs, each unique and individually sourced from weaving districts across the Silk Road countries. His suppliers are carefully selected to ensure the highest quality while supporting responsible craftsmanship.
‘It’s a privilege to meet the skilled artisans who create such
timeless pieces,’ he explains. ‘We care about the rug trade and everyone in it. These skills are age-old and handed down through generations.’
Alex’s detailed efforts result in a showroom bursting with over a thousand handcrafted rugs, carpets, runners, cushions and footstools.
The brand’s trademark look is ‘modern classic’, a versatile style working across interiors from cottages to townhouses and city apartments. Traditional rug designs are reimagined with contemporary colours. ‘Our mission is to combine the ancient traditions of handmade rugs with a fresh, inspiring retail experience and rug collection,’ says Alex.
Working closely with customers and designers, the ‘Rugs of Petworth’ team helps guide people to their perfect rug. The company website features the full collection, and a clever ‘room visualiser’ tool allows customers to explore options before visiting or booking a ‘home appointment’ to try selections in situ.
Buying a handcrafted, modern rug has never been more enjoyable or inspiring!
