DUCATI BOURNEMOUTH revs up for a great first season

with a John Hackett prepared GSE Racing 916, ridden by Troy Bayliss in 1998 BSB Championship, making a guest appearance alongside the new models.

John Piper, Brand Manager for Ducati Bournemouth said; “We have been overwhelmed with the positive response and level of interest since we first announced we were opening. To see so many people here when we opened the doors, after the delays we experienced, was quite emotional. We’re excited to get this first season underway!”

The Ducati Bournemouth team will also host showroom events and a calendar of ride outs with routes designed to make the most of the stunning Dorset scenery, with coffee and cake available back at the on-site café for refuelling.

Within a week of opening, they took part in the global We Ride As One event with local Ducatisti joining a ride to Sandbanks ferry and back through the beautiful Purbecks.

Dorset’s first Ducati destination store, dedicated to the iconic Italian motorcycle brand, is now open!

Located on Vulcan Way, Ferndown Industrial Estate, the 7000 sq ft Ducati Bournemouth store offers the full range of new Ducati motorcycles and Scrambler Ducati as well as pre-owned sales, official apparel, parts and accessories, a state-of-the-art workshop and on-site cafe.

The store opening on 30th April coincided with the start of the season weekend for Ducati, meaning visitors were not only the first to see inside the muchanticipated store, but also among the first to see the latest 2023 model range.

While the new store is large, the Ducati Bournemouth team is relatively small with just 10 employees looking after service, sales and the café. The sun is starting to shine, and the days are longer, no more so than on the beautiful Jurassic coast of Dorset. The stunning Sandbanks Peninsula, separating Bournemouth and Poole Harbour from Old Harry Rocks and Swanage is a sought after holiday destination and home to many of the rich and famous fortunate enough to own a property in the area.

Over the second week in July each year the renowned Sandbanks beach is transformed into a venue to host thousands of people who flock to watch horse polo and party at the British Beach Polo Championships, otherwise known as ‘Sandpolo’.

An impressive ‘stable’ of sponsors and corporate partners support Sandpolo each year. The event is the sporting and social highlight in the area and is the perfect platform to promote appropriate brands and build business influence and contacts.

THE DORSET OPERA FESTIVAL The social event of Dorset’s summer

The Dorset Opera Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024 – so expect something very special! But every year is special at the home of Country House opera in the South West – and 2023 is no exception! The Festival takes place in Bryanston’s 400 picturesque acres, through which the river Stour gently meanders as it flows to nearby Blandford Forum.

Your opera choices this year are Mozart’s Le nozze de Figaro (Marriage of Figaro) – undoubtedly one of the greatest operas ever written. But the piece that’s getting everyone talking is Massenet’s Le roi de Lahore (The King of Lahore). This spectacular work will involve an international cast of starry soloists, a chorus of 60 and, a full professional orchestra. Whichever opera you choose, the music is glorious and exciting; it will set your pulse racing. Nothing can beat the sound and emotion created by live music…

Why not bring a party or come to both operas on the same day: there are matinées and evening performances on Thursday and Saturday, 27th and 29th July, as well as evening shows on other nights (see the website for full details).

Dorset Opera supports talented young singers who are about to embark on a career in the music profession. With generous support from The Steel Charitable Trust, the company gives

ARAMONO: THE BEAUTY OF EVERYDAY LIFE

Pink was popping all over the spring/ summer catwalks, with make-up artists at the big four fashion weeks jumping on the #Barbiecore bandwagon that has swept through the worlds of fashion and beauty.

“With the much-anticipated Barbie film starring Margot Robbie due for release in July and Pantone announcing Viva Magenta as 2023’s Colour of the Year, it’s clear that hot pink is in,” says Grace Vernon, head of global trends and cultural insights at Boots and No7 Beauty Company.

Lockdowns and technology have changed the way we work, interact, dress and go about our days. Today we talk how Covid impacted menswear with Tatyana Kozhevnikova, Founder and Creative Director at Artefact London. Artefact London is a boutique bespoke tailoring business in Mayfair. In 2018 Tatyana was recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30 for modernising Savile Row traditions. Are suits in or out? What are some of the trends in menswear?

Is the suit dead post pandemic?

I certainly don’t feel that in my bespoke tailoring business. You see the type of gentlemen that have come to me to get their suits made prior to COVID restrictions are NOT the ones that HAVE to wear a suit, rather the ones that WANT to wear tailoring. It still holds true post lockdowns. Many found new appreciation for being able to dress up and show up in style in the outside world.

Whilst a lot of people are embracing a more relaxed dress code my customers seize an easy opportunity to stand out.

I say this on behalf of many women: us ladies aren’t turned on by comfy sweaters! Ask any woman if she prefers a man wears athleisure or a well fitting casual jacket to the first date? A jacket with correct proportions defines a man’s shoulders and chest like no cardigan or sweater ever will. First impressions matter. Well made tailoring is a short cut to a woman’s heart, elevating an impression & your confidence. Use the shortcut!

What are some of the trends you see in tailoring?

I see and encourage a trend where a classic suit is worn with lightweight knits or a well fitting t-shirt. There is something effortless yet classy about this combination, add dark brown suede shoes to the equation and you are dressed for a day at work that can transition into a date night without the need for a change of clothes. Another request I am getting more of is for work suits to feel & look less office like - more relaxed. My suggestion is making the suits using flannel. When I suggest flannel people often think of a fluffy old fashioned winter cloth. Until I demonstrate the 300gr flannel that gives the suit the perfect drape and can easily be used as separates, dressed up or down. I build capsule wardrobes for my customers using flannel suits (think light

grey, dark navy, sage, oatmeal) that can then be mixed & matched to create timeless casual combinations.

Did your business have to adapt post pandemic?

We expanded the bespoke casual wear to offer field jackets, trousers with an elastic waistband that became a hit for working from home. Yet, it is still a small proportion of the requests. Classic tailoring remains the heart of the business.

Navy wedding suit - how to make it look less office like and more special occasion?

Dark navy suits are a very popular colour choice as they complement virtually every skin tone. Since it is the go to colour for weddings and work alike, it is a good idea to differentiate the wedding look.

The simplest way to make a navy suit look special is by adding a waistcoat to it. Want more panachemake it a double-breasted waistcoat. Want to stand out even more? Add colour to the waistcoat and make it a contrasting one.

And then of course accessories: white pocket square or perhaps play with colour. Add a boutonnière for the festive mood.

Ties: In or out?

A tie is a must for a wedding or a very formal meeting.

When it comes to day to day work - skip it. At the same time, I believe fashion is a cycle. Clothes & accessories go out of fashion to subsequently make a return a few years down the line. Don’t rush to give your ties away to charity. Hide them under bed for 4-5 years, bring them out in 2028.

Do you find yourself wearing suits & jackets all the time?

Personally, I am a big fan of athleisure myself when I take my kids to the park or go to the local pizzeria. For a night out I wear my Artefact blazers with leather leggings and high heels. BATHROOM TILE GUIDE

The last few years have definitely taught us all the importance of making sure our homes are also a sanctuary. Therefore, it is not surprising that bathroom tiles that can help us feel that we have escaped to a spa and provide a feeling of luxury are set to be a sought-after tile choice for 2023. One way of creating this is through the use of Onyx tiles which have become particularly popular for their elegance, calming colour pallets and luxurious feel. This has led Floors of Stone to recently introduce their Caverna Pearl Porcelain tiles which replicate the appearance of real Onyx without being such an expensive option. The bottom floor of the building is a partial basement. To reduce the footprint of the construction and ensure that this new abode doesn’t break the natural shape of the surrounding land, we designed the bottom floor in such a way that it is built into the landscape itself. To add, the roof was also designed to be flat, to ensure that the silhouette of the house is as inoffensive as possible.

Situated in the idyllic and highly desirable town of Sevenoaks, this fivebed replacement dwelling provided our design studio with a unique canvas on which to build.

Our replacement dwelling, designed closely with our client’s needs and preferences in mind, is a continuation of the local country home design philosophy, but with a distinctive, modern approach.

The proposal

The metropolitan greenbelt is a cherished location and a welcome break from the claustrophobia of London’s urban landscape. When designing this house, we wanted the architecture to complement the greenery around it, rather than overpower and dominate the land. Working within the rules and regulations of the greenbelt, we proposed a home that adds value to the local area, whilst affecting the local environment as little as possible.

In our build proposal, the building is described as a ‘contemporary replacement dwelling providing a very high-quality design, suitable for modern living standards as well as capitalizing on the nature of the site.’

To achieve our proposed goals, we first changed the orientation of the home. This change has compounding benefits; not only does this rotation allow the home owners to enjoy the natural beauty of the local woodland, but also the economic and comfort benefits of passive solar heating. Further to this, a sky lounge and external roof terrace was added to the third storey of the construction to enable

This latest project from our architectural design studio has been an exercise in reinterpreting traditional architecture and bringing it to the new millennium. The material palette chosen for this project is one made primarily of marble and limestone. These natural materials echo the stately homes dotted nearby in style and longevity.

The building in its entirety is filled with character and provides the perfect backdrop for our client’s day-to-day lives. The openplan layout accompanied by the skybox, infinity pool and frequent placement of windows immerses the building into nature as one continuous, unobtrusive structure, without sacrificing the privacy of its inhabitants. Many of the rooms were tailored with privacy as a focus. The bedrooms, en-suites, cinema and music room allow for total privacy from the outside world if wanted.

Our design studio worked hard to produce an end result that is both versatile and breathtakingly beautiful. This new home is a wonderful addition to Sevenoaks and will accompany the silhouette of this picturesque landscape for many years to come.
