‘WHY DO BABYGROWS HAVE ALL THESE POPPERS?’

This is a question most parents probably ask as they are dressing their newborn in the middle of the night.

As a Mummy of two very wriggly little boys I have first hand experience of the struggle to dress them, it’s like wrestling a lion cub trying to get them dressed after bath time. ZIPPYUP’s will make nappy and outfit changes so much quicker and easier.

With this in mind I got to work on making ZIPPYUP a brand that gives you not only useful but stylish babygrows.

Before promoting myself to the position of Mummy I had a background in textile design and fashion, a passion I didn’t want to be lost in the midsts of motherhood. I have taken the many years of experience and put it to good use by designing a babygrow that works well for both the wearer and the dresser.

ZIPPYUP products aren’t just well designed, they are beautiful quality. The collection has now expanded with an organic cotton range in a variety of colours, Winter fleece onesies are great for after swimming or just to keep cosy on strolls in the buggy…and now sleeping bags with legs. I personally source and work with the factories making ZIPPYUPs to get the best possible materials.

All ZIPPYUPs have concealed zips so they do not have contact with your baby’s skin and the tab at the neck ensures the zip puller doesn’t catch on any little chins.

Sleeves have turn back cuffs so you don’t need separate (often lost or odd) mittens.

There is a wide variety of prints and colour combinations including unisex colours such as aqua and pale grey along with traditional whites, pinks, blues and rainbows.

I am very excited to have also launched the new ZIPPYUP sleeping bag with legs and detachable arms. Sustainability: The Story of Charlie & Nell’s Unique Journey in Slow Fashion for Children

Charlie and Nell, making sustainability accessible, stylish and most importantly, comfortable. Our journey began in 2018, fuelled by a personal quest for unique baby clothes. Tired of the same bland, gender-neutral offerings dominating the market, after graduating from Fashion Design, I set out to create a solution.

The origin story of Charlie & Nell is one of breaking free from stereotypes. It’s about challenging the norms of the industry and creating a capsule collection that speaks to the desire for distinctive, durable, and environmentally conscious baby clothes. Our designs boast adjustability for extended wear, durability to withstand daily adventures, and a vibrant colour palette that embodies the spirit of childhood and breaks the gender stereotype children fall subconsciously into.

In the fast-paced world of children’s fashion, Charlie & Nell stands as an oasis of slow fashion—an environmentally friendly brand committed to sustainability. Accommodating cloth bums and crafted for longevity, each piece is designed not just for one child but with the intention of being passed down, fostering a circular fashion economy.

The name Charlie & Nell pays homage to my Grandma, the cornerstone of this creative journey. She was not only my first sewing teacher but also the inspiration behind the brand. Charlie and Nell were her parents, and their legacy lives on in every meticulously crafted piece.

Midlands Fashion Awards

The Midlands Fashion Awards gave me a platform to showcase my design talent and passion, competing with other talented individuals. It was an exhilarating and nerve-wracking experience as I presented my collection to esteemed judges and industry professionals. Although I didn’t win, being the Runner Up was a significant achievement, validating the hard work and attention to detail I put into my Bridal collection.

Etsy Design Awards 2020

Fast forward to 2020, and I was once again recognized for my talent and creativity. This time, it was the Etsy Design Awards where I became a finalist among 99 other talented individuals from around the world. The competition showcased the best in design, and being a finalist was a true honour. One of the highlights was having Drew Barrymore review my work. BOWEL CANCER: THE FACTS

Advice from The London General Practice

Bowel cancer, also known as colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer. Over 42,000 people are diagnosed every year in the UK and can affect anyone of any age. More than nine out of ten are over the age of 50, and nearly six out of ten aged 70+.

However, more than 2,500 new cases are diagnosed each year in people under the age of 50. 1 in 15 men and 1 in 18 women will be diagnosed with bowel cancer during their lifetime.

Bowel cancer is treatable and curable if diagnosed at the earliest stage but drops significantly as the disease develops. More than 16,000 people die from bowel cancer in the UK every year.

Symptoms include:

• Bleeding from the back passage and/or blood in your stool

• Persistent, unexplained change in bowel habit

• A need to pass stool, even after opening your bowels.

• Unexplained weight loss.

• Extreme tiredness for no reason.

• A pain or lump in your abdomen.

Most people with these symptoms don’t have bowel cancer, but if you are concerned, please speak to your GP. Risk

• Being over 50

• Strong family history of bowel cancer. All family members should tell their GP if they have one first-degree relative diagnosed with bowel cancer before the age of 50, or two or more relatives diagnosed at any age, or one or more relatives with a known genetic condition linked to bowel cancer

• History of non-cancerous growths (polyps) in your bowel

• Longstanding inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis

• Type 2 diabetes

Lifestyle factors:

• Avoid processed meat and limit red meat consumption

• Eat plenty of fibre from wholegrains, pulses, veg and fruit.

• Maintain a healthy body weight

• Increase physical activity

• Reduce alcohol consumption: about 6% in the UK are linked to alcohol

• Stop smoking: An estimated 7% of bowel cancer cases in the UK are linked to tobacco smoking

Screening

Screening tests healthy people to see if they show early signs of cancer, or non-cancerous growths (polyps) that may develop into cancer in the future. Removing these can reduce your risk of getting bowel cancer.

At the London General Practice they guide their patients to access screening techniques to detect bowel cancers early.

• Faecal immunochemical test (FIT) or Faecal occult blood test (FOBT). Both look for tiny traces of blood in a stool sample.

• CT Colonoscopy, or virtual colonoscopy . This is when your bowel is imaged using a CT scanner

• Bowel scope screening. This test involves an endoscopist using a flexible tube called a colonoscope with a light and a camera to examine the bowel and take samples where needed.

Treatment

Would depend on each individual case, but may comprise surgery with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Even cases of advanced bowel cancer, where cancer cells may have spread beyond the bowel, can be treated through a variety of novel techniques.
