ICosy Up with Sensory Play
SOUZU’s new toys engage all eight senses for babies and children
ndependent UK toy boutique, SOUZU, is excited to introduce an expanded range of sensory play toys, including the all-new Petit Boum and Speedy Monkey collections. They are crafted to engage all eight senses and enrich children’s early learning.
Why Engage in Sensory Play?
In winter, children and babies tend to spend more time indoors, and sensory play can bring enriching experiences into the home. It isn’t just about touch; sensory play activates all of a child’s senses – sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, vestibular (balance), proprioception (body awareness), and interoception (awareness of internal sensations). By engaging these senses, children build the foundation for crucial developmental milestones like fine motor skills, language, emotional regulation, and cognitive growth.
SOUZU’s Sensory Play Range
for little hands to explore. Meanwhile, Speedy Monkey brings an exciting twist to sensory development with toys designed to support physical and cognitive engagement. With options that encourage active play, Speedy Monkey toys are ideal for fostering balance, coordination, and proprioceptive awareness as children move and explore – perfect for indoor play during the cooler months.
Sensory Play
SOUZU’s sensory play collection offers an engaging selection of toys perfect for colder months, helping parents provide a balanced environment that encourages exploration, movement, and creativity from the comfort of the home. Petit Boum, a standout in the collection, captivates with its sensory bottles, designed to introduce babies and young children to different textures, colours, and sounds. Each bottle is crafted to stimulate curiosity while being safe
“This is a wonderful time to engage children’s senses, and with our specially curated range of sensory play toys, parents can create enriching experiences at home,” says Tati Bueno, SOUZU’s Early Years Expert. “The new Petit Boum and Speedy Monkey toys in particular are designed with children’s unique developmental needs in mind, offering families an easy, effective way to have fun together while nurturing all senses, even while indoors.”
For parents looking to stay cosy at home, SOUZU’s sensory play toys are an ideal way to foster a rich environment where children can thrive. From soothing sounds to engaging textures, each toy is crafted to support every stage of a child’s development, giving parents peace of mind that playtime is truly beneficial. souzu.co.uk

Sockatoos: A Sanity Saver for Parents This Winter
Forget the frantic sock hunts and the inevitable chilly ankles – Sockatoos are here to revolutionise winter dressing for little ones. These ingenious all-inone baby and toddler trousers, the brainchild of Cheltenham-based mum Natalie Hull, feature built-in socks, ensuring cosy toes and maximum sanity for parents.
“I was constantly losing socks,” recalls Natalie. “It was infuriating! My boys would kick them off in the pram, on the tube, in the sling and they’d disappear in the washing machine, and finding a matching pair was a daily battle. I knew there had to be a better way, but my searches online failed, so I designed them myself and worked tirelessly to get them manufactured exactly how I wanted them… 100% soft cotton, jersey lined for comfort and warmth, adjustable drawstring waists, lots of room for reusable nappies and something that looked stylish.”
And so, Sockatoos were born. Available in a range of adorable styles, from comfy joggers to stylish cords, these clever trousers boast integrated socks that stay put, no matter how much wriggling
or crawling ensues.
“Say goodbye to the frustration of lost socks and hello to happy, warm toes,” enthuses Natalie. “Sockatoos are a game-changer for parents and a comfortable, practical solution for little ones.”
This winter, ditch the sock-matching mayhem and embrace the genius of Sockatoos. Your sanity (and your children’s comfort) will thank you. We love them and so does Giovanna Fletcher of Happy Mum, Happy Baby and I’m a Celeb fame who recently gave them a big thumbs up on Instagram.

NAD+: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In recent years, NAD+ has gained significant attention in the media as the “molecule of youth,” celebrated for its potential to support longevity, energy, and overall wellness. From celebrity endorsements to cuttingedge scientific research, NAD+ has become a buzzword in health and wellness circles. But what exactly is NAD+, and why is it so important for our bodies? Here’s everything you need to know about this remarkable molecule and how Effect Doctors can help you optimize your NAD+ levels.
WHAT IS NAD+?
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a coenzyme central to your metabolism. Found in all living cells, NAD is essential for over 500 enzymatic reactions. In our bodies, NAD can be synthesised from
building blocks like tryptophan or aspartic acid and from dietary amino acids such as niacin.
NAD+ BENEFITS
NAD+ is vital for health and longevity, playing a crucial role in metabolism, DNA repair, and gene regulation. It supports healthy ageing by activating sirtuins, proteins that maintain cellular balance and protect against agerelated decay. NAD+ also aids in repairing daily DNA damage, protecting cells from stress, and regulating the circadian rhythm, which governs sleep and appetite.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NAD+ LEVELS ARE LOW?
Unfortunately, NAD+ levels decline with age, reducing DNA repair and energy regulation while increasing the risk of metabolic disorders, obesity, and diabetes. Maintaining NAD+ levels is essential for combating these age-related issues.
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR NAD+ LEVELS NATURALLY
You can boost NAD+ through regular exercise and a diet rich in NAD+ precursors that are in foods like beef, eggs, avocados, and salmon, as well as fermented foods like sauerkraut and kombucha, all are great sources. However, maintaining these habits can be challenging with a busy lifestyle.
HOW CAN EFFECT DOCTORS HELP?
Effect Doctors offers convenient and effective NAD+ IV drip treatments and sub cutaneous injections to help replenish your NAD+ levels. Delivered directly into the bloodstream, these treatments bypass the digestive system for maximum absorption and effectiveness. Whether you’re seeking to enhance energy, improve metabolism, or support healthy ageing, NAD+ IV therapy can fit seamlessly into your busy schedule.
Discover the benefits of NAD+ and unlock your full potential with Effect Doctors. Contact us today to learn more about our NAD+ IV therapy and other wellness solutions.

Give your immune system a healthy start to the new year
Expert tips to survive winter bugs
As a new year arrives, it’s important to understand how simple lifestyle changes can have a big impact on immune health and as we are now officially in the thick of winter, catching the nasty bugs may seem inevitable. Here, Immunologist Dr Jenna Macciochi, shares her expert advice on how to optimise your health and support your immune system so you and your family can stay fighting fit this January.
1. Stay well hydrated: Proper hydration is essential for maintaining strong mucus barriers, which are the body’s frontline defence against catching germs. Mucous membranes in your nose and throat trap pathogens before they can enter your system. Drinking plenty of fluids helps ensure that your mucus barriers remain resilient, preventing germs from taking hold and aiding in faster recovery if you do get sick.
2. Nutrients for immune health: For centuries, black elderberry has been a trusted botanical to help safeguard your health, especially during winter. Rich in antioxidants, including powerful anthocyanins Sambucol supplements harness black elderberries as well as key immune-supporting ingredients such as *vitamin C and zinc to help you and your family stay well. Available in a range of delicious formats from gummies to liquids, Sambucol is available from select Boots, Holland & Barrett and most major retailers.
3. Prioritise gut health: A healthy gut is key to a strong immune system, as around 70% of your immune cells are found in the gut. The good bacteria in your gut play a crucial role in educating your immune system, helping it recognise and respond effectively to harmful invaders. By eating a healthy, balanced, fibre-rich diet and supplementing smartly, you can nourish your gut and help your immune system function at its best.
4. Nasal breathing: Breathing through the nose helps filter and humidify the air we inhale, providing a first line of defence against airborne pathogens like common winter bugs. Unlike mouth breathing, nasal breathing traps viruses in the nasal mucus, allowing the immune system to deal with them before they enter the body. For extra support try Sambucol’s New Extra Defence Menthol Gummies which combine multiple immune supporting nutrients with soothing and clearing menthol action.
5. Be mindful of January extremes: After the indulgences of the festive season, it’s tempting to swing to extremes with excessive exercise routines or extreme diets. However, balance is key to supporting your immune system. Sudden, drastic changes can put unnecessary stress on your body, which can weaken your immune system. Instead, focus on small, sustainable habits that strengthen your body and build resilience over time such as regular movement, nourishing meals and prioritising rest.
“By incorporating timehonoured remedies like black elderberry together with simple lifestyle changes, we can help our immune system beat those winter bugs”

THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF DRINKING LESS: A MEDICAL PERSPECTIVE
by Dr Angela Rai, The London General Practice
Are we truly aware of the risks associated with alcohol consumption?
Alcohol is a powerful substance that can impact nearly every part of the body, including the brain, bones, and heart. Understanding these risks is crucial, especially for those striving to lead healthier lives.
UK drinking guidelines suggest that there is no entirely safe level of alcohol consumption. To minimise health risks, it is recommended that both men and women do not exceed 14 units of alcohol per week. It is also advisable to spread this consumption evenly over three or more days rather than engaging in binge drinking. Additionally, aiming for at least two alcohol-free days each week can provide significant health benefits.
The short- and long-term effects of alcohol are profound. Small amounts can impair important functions such as speech and movement. Mediumterm effects include slowed reactions and impaired memory, while long-term consumption can lead to serious mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and memory problems. Alcohol is a depressant, and although it might temporarily boost mood, it often leads to long-term psychological issues.
The heart is particularly vulnerable to the effects

of alcohol. Drinking large amounts at once can dangerously slow the heart rate and breathing. Chronic excessive drinking is linked to high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The liver, too, suffers from long-term alcohol use, leading to conditions such as fatty liver, hepatitis, and cirrhosis.
Beyond the internal damage, alcohol can negatively affect social well-being, contributing to poor sleep, decreased performance at work, and neglected responsibilities at home. Regular consumption also contributes to weight gain and obesity due to the high calorie content of alcoholic drinks.
For those who choose to drink, moderation is key. Opt for healthy alternatives such as mocktails, herbal teas, and flavoured water. These alternatives provide the enjoyment of a social drink without the associated health risks.
If you have any concerns about your alcohol consumption, it is advisable to seek medial advice and talk to your GP or other local alcohol services.
