A convenient snack to support your appetite and diet goals High in protein for lean muscle definition Key ingredients to support fat metabolism
THE POWER OF PROTEIN The benefits of consuming protein during a hypocaloric diet are well known, for example protein can help to control appetite by increasing satiety (feelings of fullness) (Westerterp-Plantenga et al, 2012). An optimal protein diet also has a higher thermogenic effect, put simply, this means that the digestion, transportation and storage of protein cost the body more calories when compared to the metabolism ‘cost’ of carbohydrate and fat (Halton and Hu, 2004). Many individuals focus too heavily on reducing total calories for weight loss, without considering a healthy balance of nutrients, by specifically including an optimal protein intake, when doing so. Since lean muscle tissue is made up of protein, meeting individual needs for protein can also help to reduce the loss of muscle and thus help to maintain a higher, more effective metabolic rate supporting fat loss goals during training as well as at rest (Westerterp-Plantenga et al, 2012).
A unique high protein bar to support your lean definition goals Promax Lean bar is a convenient and tasty bar that contains 23g of high quality protein and only 207 calories, whilst also providing the key ingredients caffeine, L-carnitine and green tea to support individuals in meeting their lean definition goals during a fat loss diet.
Active individuals who are looking to lose body fat and develop lean muscle should consume between 1-2g of protein, dependent on training and goal, for example, an active 80kg man needs 80 - 160g (Kreider et al, 2010). Since convenient high protein snacks are sometimes hard to find, Promax lean Meal bars can help individuals meet these guidelines.
L-CARNITINE L-Carnitine is a non essential amino acid which is naturally produced in the body and can also be obtained through the consumption of meat and dairy products. L-Carnitine is essential for energy production and fat metabolism, specifically L-Carnitine is responsible for transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria; the powerhouses of the cell to be used to produce energy. Recent research has shown a glycogen sparing effect during low intensity exercise and an improvement in performance which is consistent with and further supports L-Carnitine’s role in the preferential use of fats for energy. (Wall et al, 2011)

CAFFEINE Caffeine is a naturally occurring stimulant which acts on the central nervous system; consumed by many people in coffee, tea, cola and energy drinks to increase alertness and provide a mental boost. Caffeine intake could also benefit exercising individuals, certainly those keen to reduce excess body fat; by increasing fat oxidation (Westerterp-Plantega et al, 2005 and Acheson et al, 2004), whilst also reducing the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE)(Doherty and Smith, 2005). In essence this means that caffeine could affect exercise by making it ‘feel’ easier, this could motivate individuals to exert more effort and therefore burn more calories, further assisting weight loss. A dose of 75mg of caffeine has been shown to increase alertness and attention, whereas bolus amounts consumed up to 3mg/kg of bodyweight have been shown to improve endurance performance by reducing RPE. Each Promax Lean bar contains 127mg of caffeine, perfect as a pre workout or between meal snack.

GREEN TEA Green tea extract is used as a weight loss ingredient due to its active polyphenols and catechins. Specifically Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) a potent antioxidant is thought to play a role in fat burning by up regulating norepinephrine, which impacts specific pathways and prolongs thermogenesis (Jeukendrup and Randell, 2011). A meta-analysis by Hursel et al, (2009) has demonstrated a cumulative effect from combining EGCG and caffeine, showing an increase in 24 hour fat oxidation and total energy expenditure. Promax Lean bar provides this weight loss combo benefit in a tasty high protein bar format.
HIGH FIBRE Fibre exists in two forms; soluble and insoluble and is present within our diet from fruit, vegetables, pulses and whole grains cereals. Both types aid healthy digestion by absorbing water and expanding or forming a gel, to remove waste and harmful materials from the digestive tract. Fibre within the diet may also play a role in weight management, through its effect on satiety and appetite control (Wanders et al, 2011). Each Promax Lean Meal bar contains almost 6g of fibre, which is nearly quarter of the daily recommendation encouraged within a healthy balanced diet.
RECOMMENDED USE A great between meal snack, perfect 2 hours before training as a pre-workout snack as well. Consume up to 2 bars per day, before 4pm to avoid sleep disturbance (due to caffeine).
